@IVEgottheDECAF I'm not actually sure; I'm 90% sure it was just immediately before and during the section so maybe 1.5 hours total?

@DustyDoorframes how are you feeling about the GD diagnosis?

@Stroan how have the first few nights at home gone?

@boodles101 any word on when you will be home? Are you feeling any better, hoping your BP has come up again and you are feeling a little less dizzy!

@kyles101 this happened to me in the week before I gave birth. I got this ridiculous, insatiable hunger. What's concerning is for the 3 days since he's been born it's been about 10 times worse!!!! Particularly after BFing or expressing; during the night time pumping my stomach has literally been growling and almost painful. I now bring a bag of snacks to bed 😬 seriously hoping this calms down soon!

I'm suffering so badly with insomnia; I have been awake since 3:30 again 😴 I'm hoping it's just my mind in overdrive and once we can bring Max home I'll be able to settle but I'm exhausted and it's frustrating as really I should be making the most this shitty situation of not having my newborn with me and getting a full nights sleep. Waaaaaaaah!

challengeyourreality · 21/08/2019 06:33

@happydays00 I've always been hungier when breast feeding than pregnant - except my last week pregnancy with dd1, had an insatiable appetite. Kept cereal bars and bananas by my bed as couldn't get anything in quick enough when I woke up.

I'm getting really excited to give birth now! 37 weeks today so still have a few weeks but I am ready! There are only so many domestic duties I can fill my days with, my house is transformed. Next step is painting but I would rather not have paint fumes around with newborn so am in 2 minds whether to start that or not. Anyone opinions on that?

boodles101 · 21/08/2019 07:40

happydays I'm feeling much better thanks, able to move around more freely now too. Hoping to go home today but the paediatrician has to see the babies first. Feeding is much better, Alex is now breastfeeding well and having top ups, wondering whether to stop the top ups but he's got no problems latching on.
Erin is still too tiny to latch, have ordered some nipple shields to hopefully help her, but she's now waking up hungry and demanding her milk rather than the sleepy thing she was 24 hours ago!
How annoying that you can't sleep, any word on when Max will be home? Think you said maybe the weekend?

Puglover88 · 21/08/2019 07:41

Ah @boodles101 they’re both so gorgeous! That’s good that Erin is looking for the boob, hopefully as she gets a little bigger, she’ll be able to latch on.

@happydays00 that must be so hard, you’ll probably end up sleeping better when Max is home! Have you tried listening to any audio books or sleep stories? That’s the only thing that helps me to doze if I can’t sleep. Great name by the way - Max was our chosen name if we were to have a boy!

@challengeyourreality how exciting, not long for you now! We’ve been painting a lot whilst renovating and we still have a lot of painting to do but are planning on putting it off until baby is about 6 months. I’m not sure what the advice is on painting around newborns though.

DustyDoorframes · 21/08/2019 08:40

@happydays00 GD diagnosis is an almighty nuisance (weekly appointments, hospital birth whatever my BP does- although I get to keep my homebirth team as DC2 was born far too quick to get to hospital so safer to have them to hand!) but I was v likely to get induced at 40 weeks because of BP risk anyway, and I was already high risk so not such a change. And I properly tried with diet yesterday and got v good readings, so I think I can diet control it (as long as I don't bankrupt myself on nuts...). I am grumpy about it though!
Also- the GP prescribed me iron tablets yesterday... which are not suitable for diabetics! So not impressed by that.
I can totally imagine it being really hard to sleep without Max there. You animal brain wants to know he's right there and safe before it can relax! Hopefully not much longer!

OMG yes the breastfeeding hunger! I eat loads at the best of times, I can barely keep up feeding a newborn!

@challengeyourreality I wouldn't paint just because YOU HAVE DONE ENOUGH! If you really can't sit on your hands, then look for very low VOC paint and keep the windows open, it will be fine (Little Greene are V low, as is Earthborn but that has a lot less range). But chilling out makes no fumes at all, tee hee!

@BridgetJonesDaiquiri love "scrummaging". Plenty of scrummaging babies on this thread!

kyles101 · 21/08/2019 09:47

@DustyDoorframes ha - yeah it's not the cheapest diet. Luckily I've not been too hungry, but as I say yesterday afternoon was something else, I pretty much ate the fridge bare 😬 the problem is, there aren't any really convenient GD snacks, I'm not a huge fan of nuts... there's only so much cheese you can eat!!

Terrible nights sleep last night, I'm coming out in sympathy with you @happydays00. Must be so hard. Is the weekend still looking likely for coming home?

How are you enjoying your mat leave @Megan2018? Is your 4 legged baby any better?

@boodles101 Can you tell the babies apart if they're not side by side? I assume the size gives it away at the moment if they are?

Just put the last load of baby washing on, packed 2 changing bags (I know, one is so girly though 🙄 dh is pretty open minded and will often carry my handbag for me but even so, even I felt it was a bit much!! Plus back pack one for sling usage 😉) and finally nearly packed my hospital bag - hurrah!! Just some 0-3 month bits to go in just in case and then that can go in the car.

Megan2018 · 21/08/2019 09:54

@kyles101 I snack on cooked cocktail sausages, scotch eggs and salted popcorn as well as cheese. Heartily sick of them all though. My sugars have been amazing last few days though. I reckon I could eat more carbs but too scared to try.
Do agree though, the shopping bill has been dreadful with all the meat and snacks and prepped salads.

Mat leave has been really busy so far! Had 2 hectic days. Today I am having a lazy morning before hospital appointment for diabetes and consultant. Literally sat on my arse watching The Highland Midwife Grin. Unfortunately not sleeping well so pretty lethargic.

4 legged baby is healing gradually thank you, vet was out Monday and back Thurs. Hopefully she’ll be off stable rest before baby comes.

kyles101 · 21/08/2019 10:46

Yeah mine have been loads easier to manage over the last week or so too, pushed it a bit too far yesterday though.

The sleep thing is weird isn't it, I think it's maybe the shift between full on work to thinking about getting everything else ready, basically I dozed between about 3am and 8am for the last couple of nights, it's killing me. Think I need to power through today without a nap!

When are you deciding on an induction date? I think we'll be making final plans next Wednesday 😬

Fab news, off box rest will be a massive help for you. Can dh help you out at all if need be?

Megan2018 · 21/08/2019 10:58

@kyles101 I think they might decide today! Or wait until after scan Friday, am 37 weeks tomorrow. I think it’ll be 40 weeks as no indication needed earlier.

DustyDoorframes · 21/08/2019 11:08

Oooh that's exciting @Megan2018 ! And glad to hear your poor horse is doing ok.
@kyles101 this pregnancy has made me dairy intolerant, so cheese is out too (and I dearly love cheese). We are usually a semi vegetarian family (carbon guilt...) but that's not going to work for the next 6 weeks!
I do like a scotch egg- good excuse to go wild with them! Wonder if I can get away with pork pie if I only have a bit of the crust? My mind was boggled by pulses being good-but-not-brilliant- they are my go to for all dietary solutions!

Puglover88 · 21/08/2019 11:24

@kyles101 I’ve struggled with sleep as well but I’ve also found that having a nap in the day makes it harder for me to sleep at night so I can’t win! Sounds like you’ve had a productive morning so far and it’s not even midday yet, you’re putting me to shame! 😂

@Megan2018 glad your horse is getting better and exciting that you might find out your induction date today!

@DustyDoorframes what?!! I thought pulses were a super food! I always have them as a healthy alternative! Do you know why they’re not meant to be brilliant?

kyles101 · 21/08/2019 11:29

Ah, that's good news @Megan2018 mine want to do 39 weeks but as everything else is ok I'm hoping they'll let me get closer to 40. Especially after recent immature lung chat due to GD.

@DustyDoorframes no cheese!! Noooo! I keep meaning to roast some chickpeas for snacks, in marmite apparent they're just like twiglets - they're high protein aren't they can't remember how carby they are off the top of my head? My fav go to has been avocado, chicken and crispy bacon in peppery mayo on top of a green leaf salad - yummy! I do like a scotch egg too, but they give me heartburn that's just not worth the pain 😧 I feel the meat guilt too, I had massively cut down on meat previously and only bought organic where we did have meat. Able and Cole don't deliver to my home though so need to find another option.

I got away with a potion of my homemade lasagne last week too - bulked the sauce out with mushrooms, lentils, peppers, carrots, courgette, etc etc and didn't use many pasta sheets so that was a good highlight for me too!

kyles101 · 21/08/2019 11:34

@Puglover88 it's only coz I'm slacking off at the spa allllllll day tomorrow so need to balance out the guilt!!

Also, @Horehound how are you doing??

boodles101 · 21/08/2019 11:37

kyles yes noticeable size difference gives it away, she looks like a little old lady. They both look similar to my older son though so I'm guessing it might be harder to tell once they are bigger.

happydays00 · 21/08/2019 12:01

Oh guys - all this talk of cocktail sausages, scotch eggs and pork pies is making me want them all!!! I know you're all sick of them but the insatiable hunger is there with a vengeance today!

@boodles101 - this is all sounding great! How is the pain?

@Puglover88 - I think I'll try some sleep stories or something tonight. These 3am starts are slowly killing me off and more than aware that once Max is home sleep will most likely get worse, not better!!

@DustyDoorframes - sorry to hear about the GD diagnosis. All this costly food is not what you need as you start your mat leave. I'm not surprised you're grumpy about the diagnosis - I would be too!!! You're in such good company on here with the GD ladies and hopefully not for much longer 😬

We've been told we can take Max home today! So bloody relieved and excited to get home. He took 4 x 60ml bottles of breast milk overnight so did amazingly. Hasn't done as well on the breast since I've arrived today as he's mainly been sleeping but not panicking after the feed he's had over the last 12 hours!

@Horehound - I've been thinking of you lots. I am so hoping you are now snuggling your newborn and things sped up for you at the end. You are an absolute trooper!

DustyDoorframes · 21/08/2019 12:03

Oooh will try the chickpea twiglets!
@Puglover88 lots of pluses are actually quite carby, alongside the protein and fibre etc. I seem to do ok with chickpeas and puy lentils in moderation, but bean salad sent my sugars way up.
@kyles101 do Riverford come to you? There's a meat specialist one too whose name I can't remember- sheepdrove farm maybe?

DustyDoorframes · 21/08/2019 12:05

Ooops crossposted with everyone.
@happydays00 that's BRILLIANT!!!!! Hip hip hooray!!!

challengeyourreality · 21/08/2019 12:05

Also wondering how things are going @Horehound, I hope that 'no news is good news', following the age old adage.

What is everyone doing for changing bags?

challengeyourreality · 21/08/2019 12:08

@DustyDoorframes sorry if this is a silly question, but did you check that the beans were not fermented in sugar water? I am always amazed/disappointed when I look at the ingredients in tins of beans - so many additives and preservatives. I usually just stick to specific brands now but even then you need to stay vigilant as they change recipes frequently

Megan2018 · 21/08/2019 12:08

Interestingly @DustyDoorframes Bean salad is fine for me, but beetroot salad on the other hand....it is so much trial and error. I can get away with some chips if eaten with a massive bit of meat and eggs but not jacket potato or on their own.

Megan2018 · 21/08/2019 12:11

@challengeyourreality
I have this changing bag (bought on Amazon Prime day for very few £)

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07D33RL11?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

DustyDoorframes · 21/08/2019 12:15

@challengeyourreality that's interesting! We are very knit-your-own-granola so quite careful about tins of pulses being literally beans and water- I hadn't thought about fermentation though!!!

@Megan2018 bodies are so interesting! I've not really tried potatoes as I find they don't fill me up at all at the best if time, so assumed they will send my sugars all over the shop.

challengeyourreality · 21/08/2019 12:17

@Megan2018 that's cute and a very good price!

Horehound · 21/08/2019 12:22

Bloody hell...I'm a mum! My Labour lasted 51 hours, I will update with story later but it was pretty horrific. Had epidural, gas and air, delivered in hospital this morning at 5.37am, 7lbs 1oz

Here is Arthur Sydney Pitt

Thanks so much to everyone who contributed when I was posting. I was in a bit of a mess and you all really helped me.
Looking forward to reading everyone else's updates, but first...I need SLEEP!

I'm soooo happy!
