To those of you who have had or going to have an elective c section. How far in advance was your elective c sections booked? I’m 35 weeks and no appointment yet

DustyDoorframes · 20/08/2019 13:12

@Florencenotflo I have the world's least glam nails, but I'm living vicariously through your falsies, tee hee!
@Horehound hope it's all properly underway now. V glad the G&A is (was??) helping.
@BridgetJonesDaiquiri hope the full MOT today is going well!
@Exitstrategist no useful knowledge for you, but your username is perfect for that question!

Well, no shocks here- I have indeed been diagnosed with GD... the clinic is today so may have to wait til next week, unless they are so horrified by my numbers in my referral that they want to see me sooner...

Stroan · 20/08/2019 13:25

@dustydoorframes you'll be fine, it's not for long and a little bit of tweaking is often all that's needed. Shout if you have any questions or frustrations!

@exitstrategist mine was originally booked in at 34 weeks, but I was really struggling so at 36 weeks they pulled the date forward. It's really frustrating not having a date though.

Karigan195 · 20/08/2019 14:02

Hi Dusty. Mine was diagnosed late and it looks like that may be the reason for little Theo scaring us. Apparently GD can cause an immature lung response in newborns.

Shouldn’t be an issue so long as you get past 39 weeks but if there are signs of labour before ask for steroids and ask questions!

boodles101 · 20/08/2019 14:52

bridgetjonesdaquiri they are both dressed in a vest and a sleepsuit, hat and swaddle. Erin is also in a hot cot because they are both so tiny and prem they struggled with their temperature. Utter madness me sitting here dripping with sweat while they have hats on!

I've had an awful morning, I passed out after my first time out of bed. Proper scared my husband who said my eyes rolled back and he thought I'd died. I've had to just try and rest in bed, get my BP and sugar levels up so both babies have had some formula. Although Alex has just done a nice big poo and then started rooting for the boob and fed.

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 20/08/2019 15:31

@boodles101 oh gosh! Yes get those blood sugar levels up! I fainted quite spectacularly on the way back from the shower the day after I had DD. Go slow and don't push yourself too quickly, you've had major surgery and need to recover. Frustrating I'm sure though. How are you feeling otherwise? Can you get to the loo easily?

happydays00 · 20/08/2019 15:57

@boodles101 I cannot cope at all with how hot the wards are. Bless you, try and take it easy. I kept vomiting / nearly passing out for 24 hours after my section but think that was down to my already low BP and the cocktail of drugs I'd been given to stop me haemorrhaging and get my womb to contract.

@Horehound I really hope things have progressed and you're coping ok!

boodles101 · 20/08/2019 16:31

Feeling better this afternoon after some sleep and slowly getting easier to get up to the toilet. Managed to feed Alex too which really lifted my spirits, just persevering with Erin.
She's been in a hot cot since birth but was allowed to join Alex for cuddles so here's them soothing each other.

happydays what drugs were you given to stop hemorrhaging? I am high risk for PPH

I fainted at home the day i had had my dc2. While holding him. Slid down the wall. Quite impressively kept hold of him

DustyDoorframes · 20/08/2019 16:58

Crikey @boodles101 no more fainting please!!! V glad you are feeling a bit better! (@IVEgottheDECAF Even unconscious we do anything for those babes...) and awwwwww those twinnies!!!!! Glad Alex is getting the hang of milk- he will keep your supply going for Erin when she's ready too.
@Karigan195 that's really interesting- I will definitely keep that in mind re lungs, thank you. It also increases the risk of preeclampsia which I'm already being monitored for. I'm going to be up at the hospital every other day at this rate...
Thank you @Stroan ! I'm reading the gestational diabetes UK website like a bible- I think it was you who pointed it out in the first place, upthread.

kyles101 · 20/08/2019 17:00

I literally can not get enough food in me today, I'm so hungry. Never quite felt like this before...

Exitstrategist · 20/08/2019 17:02

Those twins are just gorgeous!!!

DustyDoorframes · 20/08/2019 17:35

@kyles101 that's me at the best of times! I take a meal and 5 proper snacks to work... a low carb diet is going to bankrupt me!

Stroan · 20/08/2019 18:53

@boodles101 I felt like that on day 2, didn't quite faint but the 4th toilet trip felt like a marathon. Day 3 was a million times better. The recovery is so much quicker than I expected so do rest as much as you can now. It won't slow you down.

@dustydoorframes yes! I genuinely believe that I owe R's health to that website because the NHS advice I had was awful. The Facebook group can be a bit repetitive but really good for getting advice on the nitty gritty like my low blood sugars. The woman who runs it has incredible, research based knowledge.

I'd forgotten how much newborns sleep! DD wanted her brother to pick her up from nursery today so we had our first mini-trip out of the house. She was SO excited to show all of her friends

happydays00 · 20/08/2019 19:54

@IVEgottheDECAF I can't remember the name of it, however one of the side effects is sickness so perhaps worth mentioning (as maybe they would hook you up to some IV anti emetics at the same time). I am particularly sensitive to drugs though so I don't doubt my body reacted more dramatically than necessary 😂

@boodles101 sounds like you are doing amazingly! Any news on when you will be getting home?

@Stroan That sounds amazing!!! I'm finding recovery a bit slower than expected but I think I just straight up under estimated the section in general.

We had a good day of feeding at the hospital and if all goes well tonight and tomorrow we might get him home tomorrow night 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

IVEgottheDECAF · 20/08/2019 20:15

Was it on a drip happydays? I am down to have a drip for 4 hours post birth

Stroan · 20/08/2019 20:19

@happydays00 I assumed the worst so have been pleasantly surprised! That's wonderful news on the feeding, what a little star Max is.

boodles101 · 20/08/2019 20:45

happydays I'm guessing we will go home tomorrow but nothings been said. I had an amazing MW look after me today who fed the babies right up, then Erin woke on her own attempted to breastfeed but her poor little mouth is so tiny so just can't latch yet.
But really happy that she woke and wanted boob. Glad to hear your feeding is going well and Max is doing so much better.

happydays00 · 20/08/2019 20:46

@IVEgottheDECAF yeah, On a drip. How odd that it's 4 hours post birth? Surely the risk for a PPH is immediately following birth as your uterus fails to contract? Again, my medical knowledge extends to the binge watching of Grey's Anatomy only so I am most likely wrong

@Stroan I wish I had had more realistic expectations for recovery but I think some of the pain has also been caused by what they had to do during the section. They ended up removing my uterus to look for bleeders (they put it back after) so they said they had to sew some "extra layers" together. I have no idea what this means but it does feel a bit like all my insides have been taken out and reassembled!

Sharing a photo of Max as he finally has clothes on - like a proper baby!

Karigan195 · 20/08/2019 20:48

@happydays00. Awww hello little max :) he’s gorgeous

DustyDoorframes · 20/08/2019 20:59

Awwwww look at that gorgeous wee chap @happydays00 !!! Well, no wonder recovery is not so easy if you've had your internal organs hoiked out and faffed with!!! And then NICU to keep your anxiety nice and high... you are doing super well to be still standing at all! absolutely brilliant to hear that Max is doing so well. Not long now, fingers crossed!

@Stroan that is the sweetest thing re nursery! Yeah getting out of the house happens rather sooner with number two...

@boodles101 oh that's good re a lovely supportive MW- and Erin rooting, what a champ!

Thinking of @Horehound - Very very much hope she's having some well earned newborn cuddles by now!!

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 20/08/2019 20:59

He's absolutely scrummaging @happydays00 - fingers crossed you can bring him home tomorrow x

BBell2 · 20/08/2019 21:04

I was shitty about my MW, she got in touch and will come bank hol Monday to the house. So that's a turn around in service! I know theres so much time for baby to turn(35wks) but I'm so panicky about a section, not being able to drive DD to nursery or feeling trapped when DH is on call every other day. I'm a woman who needs a plan!

IVEgottheDECAF · 20/08/2019 21:06

Sorry happydays i meant they have said i will go on the drip as soon as baby is out and stay on for 4 hours! How long was yours for?

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 20/08/2019 21:37

FFS *scrumptious!

Hopefully no news means baby is imminent for @Horehound!
