Just spent £65 mainly on baby stuff in Aldi! Oops

BimbleBamble · 15/08/2019 12:58

@Decaf also just had an accidental lunchtime aldi trip, its amazing how much you can spend in 30 minutes!

Megan2018 · 15/08/2019 13:02

Haha @IVEgottheDECAF and @BimbleBamble I've decided to steer clear as there is genuinely nothing else we need now apart from baby monitor and nursing bras.
I know if I went in I'd come out with a stash! I have no self control Blush

KnobJockey · 15/08/2019 13:03

Me three! Only £25 here though, nothing too over the top.

KnobJockey · 15/08/2019 13:06

Is anyone else thinking that they will probably end up bottle feeding? I'm willing to give breastfeeding a go, but as a part of mixed feeding only, so I know that I will be on formula regardless at times. I've just picked up the Aldi milk to give that a bash, at £7 a tin rather than £11 it should be significantly cheaper in the long run, but I wasn't sure how it compares?

boodles101 · 15/08/2019 13:11

I'm tempted to pop to Also just to grab one of their silicone breast pumps but I really can't be bothered. I wish I'd remembered on my way past this morning.

Megan2018 · 15/08/2019 13:12

@KnobJockey I suspect I'll hate BF and go for FF - but I am starting off with just BF to see.

The formulas are essentially the same - there was a thing on TV about it not long ago, will see if I can find it. Basically as it is so tightly regulated there is practically zero difference between any of the brands so you can buy (apart from the specialist milks for allergies etc).

I have got a pack of the ready made Cow and Gate bottles in an emergency bag to stay in the car when I go into hospital, but if we do go to full time FF I'll probably use the Aldi formula too.

Megan2018 · 15/08/2019 13:14

I think this is it - worth a watch

Horehound · 15/08/2019 13:27

I'm deffo going to try and BF for as long as possible. Don't want to do FF if I can help it.

Omg I SO tired. Again I was awake all night and so I sleep until 10 or 11am and then that means I'm up again in the night. Can't seem to get out of it.

I'm about to pop to a neighbour who has some baby/birthing books for me to read. She also opted for a homebirth and came round to tell me about it. Glad I now have someone in the village who I can chat to.
Haven't seen anyone else except husband in 4 days. I'll see mum tomorrow and I'm gona get her dog for the weekend since they are away so I'll have some furry company :D

IVEgottheDECAF · 15/08/2019 13:33

I am told Aptamil, Cow and Gate and the Aldi milk are all made by same company.

We are FF. Have gone for cow and gate. Would have tried Aldi if it was also available in other shops but dont want to limit myself to only being able to buy milk in one place

£20 of my £65 was actually spent on food so thats a bit better

KnobJockey · 15/08/2019 13:38

Oh, thanks, I'll take a look! I've got aptimil in the cupboard to go to hospital with, but I figured an emergency tin to go in the cupboard would do no harm, pretty sure the food banks would take it if it doesn't get used.

BimbleBamble · 15/08/2019 13:41

I'm planning to BF (have been leaking since about 22 weeks, did not think I'd have to wear breastpads daily from that point!) so I'm hoping that means it looks promising?! (No idea really) I know friends who have used the Aldi Formula and said its really good!
Picked up the silicone pump thingy today as it was super cheap, hoping to be able to express as early as possible so DH can pick up a night time feed, again is this wishful thinking, I know so many people who's little ones have point blank refused to take bottles so a bit nervous.

kyles101 · 15/08/2019 13:46

In the Aldi club too! Although actually didn't get a lot, just done cute dribble bibs, nappysan and some of their nappies to try as I've heard good things, although I was dithering over what size as baby is apparently ginormous!

Just sat waiting for someone to turn up so I can collect a huge collection of Disney story books from for £10 - bargain! Oh, she's here!!

easterbuns1 · 15/08/2019 14:02

I'm 25 miles away from closest Aldi so no bargains here, I really don't need to buy any more stuff though I'm sure we are pretty organised.

Went to visit my friends newborn today so everything seems very real all of a sudden! Been having a bit of a meltdown the past few days, too sore to do anything at all, stressing about dp, stressing about money, stressing about not being married. Pretty much stressing about everything, sore and still throwing up.

Excited to hear about the very imminent new arrivals to the group though!

15 days and counting for me...

Puglover88 · 15/08/2019 14:02

@Florencenotflo I didn’t technically ‘need’ most of it bar the cot mattress and the cloth nappies yet somehow still managed to spend £130! 😬 its all good stuff though!

@KnobJockey I’m going to try breast feeding but will just see how it goes, I haven’t bought any bottle feeding stuff, I figure I’ll just send DH out to grab bits if we end up using formula.

I’ve just reserved a cloth nappy hire kit from a local baby and nappy shop as I don’t want to spend shed loads of money on them and then not have them work out! It’s pretty good value, only £45 for 6 weeks hire!

Hsunshine · 15/08/2019 14:50

I have stockpiled aptamil but mainly because Aldi didn’t have the formula when I went and aptamil was the only sterilised kits my supermarket had. Picked a lot up from Costco

Hsunshine · 15/08/2019 14:53

I have also more than stockpiled on pampers so I hope the baby likes them

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 15/08/2019 15:02

I’m getting really agitated that I’m getting nowhere trying to get to see a fucking consultant about this obstetric cholestasis - everyone keeps saying they’ll phone me back and then they don’t. Being passed around like a parcel. Been sitting at home in tears thinking what if the worst happens and I just fell through the cracks. So far I have no idea when my next bloods will be done, a growth scan booked in but no one to discuss the results with, super high bile acid results which in many cases (online) it would seem would merit whipping the baby out now and no plan of action. Didn't manage to sleep much last night with worry and feeling like absolute crap. Sorry for moaning ladies.

kyles101 · 15/08/2019 15:04

@Hsunshine stockpiles of pampers here too, that's why I thought I'd pick up another brand today to compare.

@Horehound 4 legged ones are the bestest company. I love my girl so much, she's like my little shadow. My sleep is out a bit too, not as much as yours though, it's awful coz you get upset about not sleeping then that just makes it worse. Why are you housebound again? Is it something to do with a car? Not pain or anything is it?

I underestimated the number of books - I think there's around 100, all hardback and they look great condition, bargain.

I'm wanting to breastfeed, mainly because it's so convenient!!

Not stopped running around this morning, just got in and for the first time felt a bit rough for not having anything to eat so just scoffed some cocktail sausages, cheese and a 19g animal bar as a treat! Need to get up and put the shopping away, sort the last load of washing and clean the bathrooms... 🤔

Hsunshine · 15/08/2019 15:05

@BridgetJonesDaiquiri I had that problem and I called PALS at my local hospital and they got all my appointments booked in for me. You should give them a call and they’ll sort it hopefully

IVEgottheDECAF · 15/08/2019 15:07

Bridget it is understandable you are concerned! Can you share your concerns with your mw maybe?

Just spent 45 min on phone about mat allowance. They are now working on claims from very end June. Mine was recieved 3rd July so should be dealt with next week and ill apparently get a text telling me when its been done.

kyles101 · 15/08/2019 15:08

@BridgetJonesDaiquiri sorry you must be so stressed. Can you get hold of a midwife to try to point you in the right direction? What about if you went into the mau with "reduced movement" then had a breakdown whilst you're there about no one calling you back and how stressed you're getting about it? It's a lot harder to ignore a crying pregnant lady in person. I don't know anything about it though but if you think there should be some imminent action then a growth scan next week isn't much cop I wouldn't have thought... although google can be your worst enemy...

Moraxella · 15/08/2019 15:21

@easterbuns1 think we might be the same person, we have the same stress list. Especially the unmarriedness! Just is a ball ache with baby surnames, and I have to sort visas out. And I’m getting over it now which is sad; if it happened now it wouldn’t be as exciting.

@BridgetJonesDaiquiri pack a bag and go in to MAU.

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 15/08/2019 15:24

I just had a call from midwife at DAU who said that still no joy with booking the appointment and that I probably won't have an appointment slot confirmed until Monday and possibly not see my consultant until next Friday (I'll be 36+4 then, almost at the 37 weeks they say they want to induce by...). Promptly broke down in tears on the phone and she told me to come in and she'll organise me to see a doctor to talk through my concerns this afternoon and get some reassurance. I just feel totally in limbo and like I'm going to fall through the cracks - and this Is supposed to be a great maternity hospital

IVEgottheDECAF · 15/08/2019 15:41

Good that they will see you today Bridget hope you get the answers you need
