Due March 2008 - another teeny tiny thread for dial ups and mobiles

Welcome. It seems that when we get to over 400 hundred posts then dial ups and mobiles can't handle loading the threads well. Sweetkitty, I hope this helps. xx

morning all and welcome to the new posters on here

well this morning i started to bleed, pinky/red and watery, for about an hour or so, it was immediately after sex and it has now stopped, I seem to remember this happening to someone else who is due in March? Just wondered if there are any positive stories to stop me fearing the worst I did bleed like this when pregnant with DD (but that was an early twin preganancy which this one isn't as we had viability scan at 6 weeks and showed heartbeat and one fetal pole etc), worrying all the same esp after 2 mc, currently 10 btw xx

preggersagain · 21/08/2007 09:51

papaya- sounds like a cervical erosioin caused by the rumpy-pupmy you could always ring a midwife and get checked but usually if it occurs after sex and stops again fairly quickly its nothing to panic about!

MerlinsBeard · 21/08/2007 10:39

papaya, a lot ofg women bleeds slightly after sex. it may be nothing to worry about but if you are concerned ring your midwife.

winemakes, yes i will be at stepping hill. not booked in yet but mw will be based tehre. very handy as its only 10 mins or so away from me

Brazilianmum · 21/08/2007 10:44

Had my scan yesterday and it was great. We were a bit annoyed to be kept waiting for 40 mins, but when we saw the baby on the screens all that dissipated. I cried and I think DP wasn't far off.

The baby is developing well and it measures 3 inches and I am now 12 + 3. The two consultants who were in the room kept printing lot's of pictures but they only gave me two, wish I could have them all.

Have bought a baby heart monitor from Argos but can't hear anything yet, can't wait.

timmyinatizzy · 21/08/2007 10:45

Sorry for not getting back to you yesterday. I had my nuchal scan yesterday and it was wonderful to see the baby, and the heartbeat. I got very emotional. Unfortunetly the found the baby has a vein (one of the things they test for) with the blood flowing the wrong way round and in conjunction with one of my blood tests it showed that my risk of having a Downs baby is 1 in 44. However the fluid behind the back of the neck is fine. Whilst me and dp had discussed this we didn't really think that it would happen to us. The consultant was really nice and ran through some options with us, and we decided to take the CVS test there and then. Whilst I admire people who have Downs babies I'm not sure that I could cope with special needs that they would have. I did a placement at a special needs school when completing my nursery nursing course and it was my least favourite and from then I knew that I couldn't cope with it myself.

The CVS was over quite quickly and I got to see the baby loads as they did more ultrasounds. The needle hurt pretty badly when the doctor had to insert it through to the baby's placenta, it felt like I had been kicked in the stomach. But boy was junior active, couldn't keep still. I should find out the results on Friday if not it'll be Tuesday. I'm looking on the postive side of it as if I'm one the 43 out of 44 that is ok. They also redated me. I thought I was 12+2 yesterday but as the baby is small and I conceived before I had 3 cycles they have dated junior as 11+3 (11+4 today!), so my new due date is 7 March. Anyway sorry if this is a bit long and gloomy, but as I said I'm trying to keep positive.

kelmcd · 21/08/2007 10:47

Papaya i am sure it is to do with having sex but if you are still concerned go to your nearest A & E and they can check its all ok for you

papaya · 21/08/2007 10:48

thanks for your positive words, i phone midwife this morning ( iam not even booked in yet) so thought it would be a good time to get booked in and mention the bleeding. She said to pop along to the doctors so they can refer me to the hospital for an early scan if they thought it was needed. Wish i had never gone to my doctors, i went this morn and explained to him what had haapend he said the most common cause for bleeding at such an early stage is miscarriage and that there no point having a scan because that wouldnt alter any outcome. He also said he would put me down for my first scan and that it will be around 5 weeks time!???!?! I just got into my car and cried maybe its my hormones i dont know, but in hindsight he was so UN reassuring he's made me feel, well, like crap really. And a scan in 5 weeks time? I thought that was too late to acurately date a pregancy?

bleeding has still stopped so i am praying it is that cervical erosion thingy you mention preggers again.

MerlinsBeard · 21/08/2007 11:03

papaya, can you ring your EPU directly? you might get a quicker scan that way.

papaya · 21/08/2007 11:14

momonsters I think we need doc/midwife refferel to get into our epu, I have just spoke to DH and he's going to ring the place where we had our private viability scan done, will have to tighten the old purse strings but they should be able to see us tomorow x

MerlinsBeard · 21/08/2007 11:19

i thought that too but when i started bleeding last time i rung delivery suite (as had no number for the midwife and it was BH so no DRs open) and they just gave me the number, after i had cried on the phone, i think they felt sorry for me. the EPU were quite off with me (thats a whole other thread)but i was scaned that week.

however, if you can afford private then i woulod go for that. you would prob get better treatment anyway lol!

e14mum · 21/08/2007 11:48

hannahmary, I'm from Canada too! Where did you grow up? DH is British and I've lived in the UK for 5 years.

I asked the midwife this morning about how much I have to drink before my scan next week and she said that you don't have to have a full bladder anymore for scans. Is that true? I've never done this before! I'm bringing a big bottle of water with me just in case.

How is everyone feeling today? Since hitting 11 weeks I've felt much better, although still have moments, especially gagging moments. Also, can anyone tell me when I might be able to enjoy coffee again??

HolidaysQueen · 21/08/2007 11:57

Hi timmy -
Sorry your scan wasn't as completely joyous as you hoped (although of course it must have been wonderful to see the baby - I've got to wait 2 and a bit more weeks for that as I'm only 9 + 2 at the mo and am going insane!) As you say, the odds are very much still in your favour - your baby is much more likely to be one of the 43 for which it is a false alarm than the one that has Downs. I have my fingers crossed for you that the CVS results give you the all clear.

HolidaysQueen · 21/08/2007 12:00

Brazilian mum - great news on your scan! I think as i'm due end of March I'll probably be one of the last ones on this board to get their scan so I'm going to get very jealous of you all Mine is on 6th Sept so just over 2 weeks away.

Having said that I am in Italy next week on holiday (yay!) and then when I get back it's only 4 days to the scan so at least I have a lovely holiday in the sun to distract me for a bit. I can't wait!

imjin100 · 21/08/2007 12:09

HI timmy, to echo the words of holidaysqueen, I hope it all works out, trying to stay positive must be tricky but good luck until the results. I hope they are quick for you.
Good luck papaya, if you possibly can afford it I'd get the scan, I think worrying is the worst part of pregnancy and no one warned me about it!
Holidays I know what you mean about the wait, our holiday definitely helped to pass the time. I've got the date for the next one but it's not until 29th october, now that truly does feel like a long wait....for goodness sake...how is time meant to pass until then...and now of course all symptons have gone - well MS has gone (hurray and not complaining!) Still have sore boobs, irrational emotion and ridiculous sense of smell (on my bike in the mornings I can tell when the rubbish truck has passed about 10 hours before I think!) but still cant' help from worrying - what a thing this pregnancy malarky is!

Brazilianmum · 21/08/2007 12:11

Has anyone had the Anti D injection before? I am booked for it in December. Is it very painful, any side effects?

Timmy, the odds are in your favour I am sure it will all be fine.

imjin100 · 21/08/2007 12:14

brazilian mum, what's it for?

cricri · 21/08/2007 12:19

Hello everybody and hope you're all feeling OK. I'm envious of all those who have had scans - can't wait for mine! (another 3 weeks).
I have a question which hopefully somebody will be able to answer (and sorry if TMI!). I've just had a phone call from the antenatal clinic informing me that the urine sample I provided last week has tested positive for a Strep B infection. They're giving me a prescription for antibiotics and sending me some stickers and stuff to put in my antenatal notes! I've done some Googling and it seems that Strep B infections can cause problems later on in pregnancy, but I'm only 10 weeks. I'm loathe to take antibiotics when I don't actually have any symptoms. Surely this is more harmful for the baby? Also, I read that there's no guarantee the infection won't come back later anyway! Think I might ring the MW and see what she says. If anybody else has had this then I'd be grateful for any advice.
Many thanks!

Brazilianmum · 21/08/2007 12:21

The Anti D injections should be taken by pregnant women who are rhesus neg, as the baby might be positive which can cause complications for future pregnancies.

winemakesmummyclever · 21/08/2007 12:23

Papaya - I think your gp is an arse. Ignore him and phone either the ante natal clinic, gynae ward or EPU if you have one locally. They are much better at dealing with these sort of things and understand the worry that the slightest twinge/spot can cause. If you can speak to one of the nurses you should get some sensible answers/results. It probably is due to the early morning sex (my God woman, where are you finding the energy at that time of day?! ), but unless you get it checked out, you'll just get more worried. I've worked in the NHS for 10 years and I find that if you act dumb, but be really nice and polite, you can get people to do almost anything .

Timmy - fingers crossed for you. Hopefully things will be ok.

imjin100 · 21/08/2007 12:24

How wierd Crici, was just about to ask about StrepB. My sister had it and i'm keen to be tested. I think you should speak to your midwife about it. My sister is away at the moment or i'd ask her so sorry not be more helpful. By all accounts its fine as long as it is picked up and apparently they don't routinely check for it in this country so you should be 'pleased' they have found it - I think?!
Thanks Brazilianmum, I am rheus neg, hence I asked. I have heard nothing yet about it but wait to hear and will read the responses to your question with interest.

glammarjoram · 21/08/2007 12:28

hello all,
Papaya this happened to me a couple of weeks ago, I phoned ante natal clinic who told me to phone the Delivery Suite. I ended up in A & E who then referred me upstairs to the Emergency Gynacology Unit for an emergency scan. So, my advice would be to you to get yourself down to A & E. And you GP sounds like a total twot.In my case they reckoned it was cervical erosion caused by too much rumpy pumpy and we have had to be inventive as no more penetration. Sorry for tmi! What I'm trying to say is that I feel for you, I know the fear you're experiencing but it may probably turn out to be nothing serious. Keep us informed.
e14mum welcome. Does your name refer to e14 London? I'm in e1. Going to deliver (fingers crossed) at the Royal London.

Hope all of you are well.

winemakesmummyclever · 21/08/2007 12:47

Cricri - I tested +ve for GBS in my first pregnancy, which affected my treatment slightly when carrying ds. Basically, they keep a really close eye on you all through the pg (swabs, urine for m,c&s etc), and then when you go into labour you are given 3 doses of IV antibiotics before baby arrives. That's really for the baby's benefit, not yours. Try this website - www.gbss.org.uk - it covers pretty much everything. Your m/w will go through it all with you. Have a look at the website, write down any questions you have and then take them along to your next appt, so you don't come away without the answers you need. Our hospital has very rigid protocols, which includes the scary sticker treatment . Haven't had consultant appt yet, so don't know if I'll be joining you in the sticker brigade. Was -ve all through carrying ds, but was still given the treatment prophylactically. Presume it will be the same this time - will let you know.

HolidaysQueen · 21/08/2007 12:56

Cricri - my sister in law is also strep B positive and for her two it sounds like they basically did what they did for winemakesmummyclever - closer monitoring and then antibiotics when in labour. She said the main downside for her was that they wouldn't consider her for a homebirth with her second baby, the rest of it she didn't find a problem.

cricri · 21/08/2007 13:24

Why is the MW never there when you want to speak to her?! She seems to have turned off her ansaphone too Will keep trying.
Thank you all so much for the useful advice on Strep B.
Winemakesmummyclever - the link you gave is very useful thank you. It looks like as the infection was detected in my urine then I need to take the antibiotics. Oh well. I've bookmarked the page for future reference anyway.
All this is rather scary - what else are the doctors going to uncover?! I usually try to avoid doctors but guess that's no longer possible now Especially as it's not just me I have to think about anymore.
Thank goodness for MN is all I say!

HolidaysQueen · 21/08/2007 13:52

I'm having an irrational moment. Whenever I cough standing up I get quite a sharp pain in my tummy. It's fine when I'm sat down or bending over slightly, so thinking it's just something to do with tummy muscles being more taut when standing and them not liking it when I cough. Anyone else get this? Any one think this is something to worry about, or should I just go and get a cup of tea and bar of chocolate and stop worrying? I sometimes get similar pains if I twist a bit too far.
