Couldn't see that anyone had started another thread after we filled up the last one, so hopefully I haven't made a double...

Phew, the baby is here! Ended up with a section due to induction not progressing enough yday morning. She's over 4kg and has a 98th centile head so maybe section for the best in the end! I'm a pretty small person too 😂. Hope everyone's enjoying the babies that have arrived and the rest of you are hanging on in there okay? X

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 10/11/2019 12:32

Congratulations @Kaff83! Hope you're enjoying your cuddles now and recovery goes well.

Zarara · 11/11/2019 05:10

Hi all, baby girl arrived in to the world on Saturday weighing 6.11 after a long labour. Contractions started 5am on the Friday and she was born Saturday morning. Had an epidural which was lovely as managed to get some rest, was able to feel my legs and still felt the pressure to push which really helped. Back at home now and struggling with breastfeeding as baby has the worst latch ever. Hoping to see someone tomorrow to help. How is everyone else doing?

Zarara · 11/11/2019 05:11

Congratulations @Kaff83

PyjamasForever · 12/11/2019 00:59

Congratulations @Zarara! We're still struggling with poor latch. Managing to get by with sore nipples by holding in the rugby ball position and using the flipple technique. We're going to a breastfeeding group with a lactation consultant Wednesday, so hopefully they'll have some more advice. It's so fiddly to get her latched on, I have to get my whole boob out and wait for her to open her mouth wide enough and then she keeps slipping... means I feel trapped at home as I can't manage that in public.

Anyone have any success in putting their baby down to sleep? My DD will only sleep when being held so DH and I currently taking shifts during the night. Clearly this won't be an option when his paternity leave ends. Shock

@pyjamasforever we're cuddling all night too. We had the same with my other two - one had reflux but I think otherwise it's just wanting cuddles, and a combination of swaddling, white noise, waiting til they're fast asleep for some time to put them down and time got us there. We did still manage it when my partner went back to work just by one of us going to bed v early, around 8pm. We could just about get by with 11 hours to share over night. My nipples also in agony but have just hounded for lots of tips from friends and ordered various things including some gel pads and silverette cups.

PyjamasForever · 12/11/2019 11:42

@Kaff83 really reassuring to know that it's not just my babies who won't be put down. Let me know how you get on with the silverette cups, I've been toying with buying a pair.

@PyjamasForever I went to a breastfeeding clinic and they helped massively but I’m still finding it tricky and she keeps slipping I can completely relate to feeling trapped in the house. Really hope it improves so. Can start heading out.

How often are the babies feeding? We’re feeding on demand and both my boobs are just full all the time and so uncomfortable especially at night. Does anyone know when they start to regulate a bit?

PyjamasForever · 12/11/2019 18:59

@Zarara we're mostly going 2-3hrs between feeds in the day with a bit of clustering in the evening. I can't remember how long it took to settle last time, I think I blocked out this sore exhausted bit from my memory.

ruralcat · 12/11/2019 21:50

@PyjamasForever @Kaff83 one of my nipples was very sore for the first few days, lansinoh saved it. I think I was just unlucky as I had latch checked and she was perfect although baby girl has possible tongue tie. She's two weeks today and it has healed perfectly by applying the cream regularly. I bought a couple of Aden & Anais swaddles which are perfect for covering up in public as they're so big but also really lightweight.
The first few days baby wouldn't be put down but in the evening basically I just keep trying to put her down and eventually she's in a deep sleep so she does go down then she seems fine after the night feed to go back down. I do tend to spend the majority of the evenings with her sleeping on me though.

Kaff83 · 15/11/2019 09:29

@pyjamasforever how are the nipples? I got some silver cups and doing much better. @ruralcat lansinoh has worked great for me in the past but was using it from day dot this time and it wasn't enough on its own. I've also been using some breast shells which help as they let your nipple get some air and not stick on your clothes.

Kaff83 · 15/11/2019 09:35

@zarara my little one (6 days old) feeds almost every hour day and night. My other two were the same. Re the boobs feeling full, has it settled at all? It's hard to balance as expressing will relieve the fullness but may up supply. If she only feeds on one side during a feed and the other one is particularly full I express though. Ive got a thing that you can attach to your other boob (the one you're not feeding on) that suctions on and collects milk - I think this is a good compromise as it seems to collect enough to relieve the fullness but not as much as a proper pump would - I think they're called silicone breast pump or Milk collector.

Zarara · 15/11/2019 11:52

@Kaff83 I actually bought a Hakka which does what your describing. I’m having a bit of a nightmare at the moment by breasts are so sore and are bleeding, I’ve been to see a few midwives regarding the latch and I’m sure that’s its ok although I have to readjust a few times. The damage to my nipples has been done now and I just don’t know how they’ll get the chance to recover with the constant feeding. I really want to give breastfeeding a good go as I didnt have any of these issues with my son. But I’m on the edge of quitting due to the pain. I’ve just ordered some nipple shields to try and help.

To add to my woes my stitches have become infected, I’ve started antibiotics and am just praying they clear up the infection.

@Zarara have you seen a lactation consultant or just midwives/health visitor? If it hurts and the damage isn't healing, there is a latch issue (even if it looks okay from the outside). Have you tried an exaggerated latch (Google flipple technique) to try and get your nipple to baby's soft palate? Shields can be helpful while you wait to get more help. No matter how good my positioning, and how deep my latch starts baby just slides off a bit, so I'm waiting to see someone about a tongue tie. Especially at night when I'm less good at taking her off and repositioning her I'm just causing more and more damage to my nipples.

@Kaff83 I might get some silverettes. I've found breast shells helpful because they've stopped my scabs sticking to breast pads and peeling off. Grim.

We have our day 10 midwife weigh in tomorrow. I'm very nervous.

How is everyone? Any more baby news? Xx

Zarara · 20/11/2019 23:17

@PyjamasForever yes I’ve seen an infant feeding specialist and she actually showed me the flipple technique which is helping massively. She said baby has a really tight jaw and tongue tie but with good positioning shouldn’t be that detrimental to feeding. Going back to see her next week.

How did the weigh in go?

November babies seems really quite,
Wondering whether it’s worth starting a post natal group on that board?

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 20/11/2019 23:21

Baby Reuben was born at 10:02 weighing 10lbs 10oz by ELCS.

Congratulations @smartcarnotsosmartdriver.

@Zarara we're having similar issues with feeding, but latch is definitely improving. Had baby weighed today and she's regained birthweight... yay!!

I've set up a thread in postnatal clubs so we don't clog up this thread talking about the babies. I can't work out how to link it, but it should be easy to find.

Congrats to everyone welcoming their babies into their world! I’ve not been keeping up on this forum but I’m enjoying seeing everything I’ve missed Smile. As for me, today is my due date (21st). And guess what....still pregnant! I’m conscious it is coming very soon but right now the plan is to watch Netflix and wait! Confused

Zarara · 21/11/2019 20:52

@smartcarnotsosmartdriver congratulations!

Sleepyquest · 22/11/2019 12:21

I had my baby on the 13th! Nothing went to plan but she's here now and fab! Just trying to get a hold of my hormones and emotions Grin

Good luck everyone

xanderllama · 23/11/2019 17:34

I’m 2 days past my due date, if my baby doesn’t come in the next week he’ll be a December baby! Grin

ACuppaSolvesEverything · 27/11/2019 09:40

Morning everyone, congratulations to those who have had their babies!

I went six days past my due date but after two sweeps had a straightforward labour and little Monty arrived on the 15th weighing 7lbs 8oz.

I’ve not been breastfeeding as it just didn’t work for me. After much soul searching and a lot of guilt I made the decision. Little one didn’t lose any weight at 5-day check and had gained 5oz by his 11-day check so it doesn’t seem to be causing any issues so far Smile

For anyone worrying like I did try not to be too hard on yourself and do whatever feels right for you and your family 💖

xanderllama · 27/11/2019 19:03

My baby boy was born in the early hours of yesterday (26th November), weighing 8lbs 2oz. He’s my first child and I am absolutely in love. 5 days late after my due date but he’s here and he’s perfect!
