Hey all... over here!!

OP posts:

You could always try the opposite of the snoring cure: sew a tennis ball in an old pair of tights to the middle front of your jammies - that way you'll wake up if you roll onto it!

I don't know how you can sleep on your front mind - my boobs were far too sore to take any pressure for months!

thelady · 29/07/2007 00:41

Actually, tennis ball in sock and then pinned to the front of your jammies (just below the boobs!) might do the trick too...?

BeachBunni · 29/07/2007 00:48

Hey everyone. It's late and I can't sleep, dying with heartburn. Came home from work tonight and passed out at 7 so now I'm wide awake.

Good to hear that everyone's ok. Hope you get some good news for your scan on Tuesday Lizzer. My cousin's baby has a blocked tube on his kidney that they didn't pick up on until after he was born. He's in hospital at the minute on the renal ward, the poor wee mite, waiting for an op.

Haven't really thought of many names yet. All I've come up with are - Girl; Caitlin and dp likes Kayleigh. Boys; Noah or Keiran. Dp won't allow me to have Keiran as it's too Irish sounding - whole other ballgame living in a staunch Protestant town in Northern Ireland and calling your child something that sounds Catholic. Not that we're bigotted in any way but may result in the poor kid being bullied and beat up.

Getting quite big now. Have been wearing smocky type tops and last night I went out and wore just a normal t-shirt and you could really see the bump. I kept catching my reflection and thinking 'where did you come from?' Although part of me loves it another part of me hates it. I'm getting a bit insecure about the way I look which is something I've never felt before. I've always kept myself in pretty good shape and I'm stressing a bit probably because it's out of my control to a certain extent. (and then I feel a little kick like now and it's all ok)

To whoever was asking about mat leave. I had to let my area manager know about mine so I'm goig off the last week in October (due 1st dec) but taking as two weeks hols then my proper mat in November. Can't wait - only 3 months to go!!

lindsayjane · 29/07/2007 11:03

Hi everyone. I'm 22 weeks, due 3rd December. We had our 20 week scan and found out it was a girl!! This is our first baby, although I've got a stepdaughter. Think I've started feeling movements although it's more like air bubbles, like somethings popping....is this normal? Also bought one of those heartbeat listener things but haven't heard anything definate yet. Probably too early but you can't help but worry over every little thing.

Suffering from sciatica, leg cramps & heartburn so any tips would be great

Lizzer · 29/07/2007 19:25

Thanks so much for all your messages of support and I'll let you all know what happens on tues. Feeling more positive, been reading loads about it online. 'speak' to you all soon.

Good luck for everyone's scans this week and welcome to all new posters

Lizzer · 29/07/2007 19:27

ps thelady, thankyou so much for your kind offer! Luckily my Grandma lives in Newc so we're going there for lunch to break up the day...

thelady · 29/07/2007 19:55

Lizzer: glad you've got someone to spend time with instead of sitting twitching in waiting rooms.

I'll be thinking of you (as will we all).

Housemum · 29/07/2007 20:30

Hi all - hope you've been enjoying some decent weather today! Is anyone on here in the badly affected areas? We're really lucky as we're on a hill and miles from any rivers.

Show-off mum moment here - anyone got the latest Mother and Baby magazine (September issue just out, came with free lion board book). If so there's a picture of my DD2 when she was 2 - she's on the contents page and one of the toddler features, in a green t-shirt eating a slice of melon. She's also in the Woolworths back-to-school leaflet, I picked one up in Woollies today (wearing a pink ballet outfit, she's the blond one, that was her back in the Spring). Walking round town with a big smile on my face (then even happier when I went to Blooming Marvellous and picked up a cardi, 2 tops, a bra and a dress for under £50 in their sale!!)

buzzybee · 30/07/2007 08:10

Hiya all you UK MNers, anyone up and around yet? Hope everyone had a lovely weekend - very mild down under here given its mid-winter, 15-16 degrees and calm, perfect for visiting playgrounds!
Feeling very proud of DD (5) today as she finally got the courage to swim properly at her swimming class today

skidaddle · 30/07/2007 08:31

Morning everyone.

Lizzer - so sorry to hear about your horrible scan experience. I hope all goes well in Newcastle and they give you some good news. And hope they can tell you if you're having a boy or a girl as well. Big hugs xx

Hi lindsayjane - yes bubbles popping definitely sounds like the baby, congrats on your little girl!

suey2 and ozzymoomoo - I sleep on my back and front - think it's fine as long as you feel comfy. As someone said the not lying on your back is only to stop you feeling breathless so if you don't feel breathless it should be fine. On your front - I reckon it will get v. uncomfortable/impossible soon but until then it's fine

mixedmama - I'm up for a bit of on-line labour although I reckon for us 2nd/3rd timers, it will be a bit quick for all that - we'll be busy typing in how far apart our contractions are and suddenly they'll be a little squirmy baby on the floor!

Good luck to Caz10, peanut, fifi, buzzy, suey2 and of course lizzer (and anyone else I've forgotten) for your scans, fingers crossed for you all

skidaddle · 30/07/2007 08:32

Hi buzzy

well done to your dd!

MotherofZ · 30/07/2007 08:34

monring busybee -could be the start of our summer now - the weather is lovely here but stuck at work
online labour - hoping 2nd time around it will be much quicker and won't need to log on!

suey2 · 30/07/2007 08:36

gogeous morning It is ridiculous that today is the first day this summer i have noticed that i do not have smart summer work trousers!
Just about to leave for scan eek! will report back later

MotherofZ · 30/07/2007 08:43

all the best suey2 - let us know how it goes. did u say you were going to find out?

skidaddle · 30/07/2007 08:45

oooh how exciting, good luck suey2

Ambi · 30/07/2007 08:51

Hi Ozzy & Lindsayjane, Ozzy: I didn't feel anything until about 20weeks, had my 3rd scan 19 weeks, met the midwife the week after who asked if i'd felt anything, I said I wasn't sure, then that weekend got booted like nothing else, please don't worry. Lizzer, good luck and hugs for tomorrow, thank goodness they've caught whatever they think it is and is getting looked at before birth so they're prepared.

Beanstermummy · 30/07/2007 09:21

Morning morning - how lovely to wake up to sunshine not rain for a change!!

Sounds like peeps had jolly weekends - I'm steadying myself for Sister and brood arriving tonight for a week - house is a tip and geeting stressed about nephews feeing - while my DD will eat everything and anything (Favourite being olives, humous, chilli and smoked slamon), DN's at 4 and 7 are a tad more picky to say the least. One one do pasta, the other one can't have food with bits in (ie. mince so spag bol is out), won't do any form of sauce other than ketchup!!!! Help - I refuse to bend too much away from what my DD likes but also don't want to fall out with my big sis - Ahhhh help ???? creative ideas please

Loucee - re underactive thyroid - hypothyroidism to give it correct title!! I've had HT since I was 19 and it was apparently passed down from my Mum (goes down the femal line sometimes it seems!). Absolutley no issue other than trying to remember tablets each morning and also I'm banned from armed services (only a pain when I wanted to join up for a while after Uni). My level did drop a bit when PG last time and they upped it 25mg per day - which actually has remianed at that level since. They are checking it 6 weekly or so this time but it really isn't a problem. I think if it comes on during PG (again quite common) it does tend to drop back ok afterwards - I would suggest speaking to your Doc about it as they'll know more than MW. Also, doesn't follow baby will be born with thyroid issues either - we'll jsut watch for our DD as she gets older. Hope that helps

Sure we'll survive though. Just trying to sort brain out to work (from home today) but also sort house out - when all I really want to do is veg in sofa and play on MN and EBay!!

Did anyone else see the news item this morning about PND being more common in the North or the UK rather than south?? Some survey on NetMums (?) apparently - but didn't look at social status, income, etc. Wonder if there is any truth in it??

Speak later - fingers crossed and happy thoughts for all those with scans today

thelady · 30/07/2007 10:59

Beanstermummy: feeding fussy eaters is the pits! Can you get them involved in 'helping' - my sister was always more willing to eat something she had cooked....

Other than that, how about multi-purpose things.

E.g. make yummy cheese sauce with wee bit mustard: on toast for ultra-fussy creature, with pasta for macaroni cheese for less-fussy creature, with flaked smoked fish of some description and boiled tatties etc. for adults?

Erm. Soup if liquidised might be OK.

Oh, and mum's sneaky solution some nights was to cover a plate in clean lettuce leaves and grate cheese all over it. We could then make parcels with the lettuce (forbidden playing with food!) and munched away happily. Carrot sticks, raisins etc. were strewn over the top, and generally got eaten in the process.

Other than that. perhaps say to sis that you'll be cooking for the majority, and see if she has some simple fallbacks like fishfingers, meatballs, cheese-on-toast etc. that her two will eat but which won't take all day to prepare. Perhaps her two fussy ones will be more amenable to different foods if someone other than mum provides it...?

buzzybee · 30/07/2007 11:09

Goodness Beanstermummy, sounds like a nightmare, how does your sister cope?! My DD's like your - just made her school lunch with olives, ham, cheese, rice crackers, yoghurt and a muesli bar! Consequently don't have much to suggest - but have noticed that when DD has supposedly picky friends round to sleepover they often eat what I put in front of them despite all sorts of dire warnings from their parents. Either I'm an ogre or....
Sausages and mash???

Good luck suey!

Feeling very blimp-like today too...

skidaddle · 30/07/2007 12:36

beanster - what a nightmare - i think I would be a bit mean and just make something (relatively inoffensive) and if they didn't like it, then they wouldn't have to eat it. Maybe that's harsh but they need to learn that if they are very fussy then there will be a lot of times when there is simply nothing to eat. If it were a case of allergies or something then it would be completely different but I kind of think if your sister's wants to cater for their preferences then that's her job, not yours. Maybe I'm not the softie I always think that I am after all...

BTW my dd's favourite foods are also humous and olives!!

suey2 · 30/07/2007 12:52

hello all

Scan went well this morning- nothing to worry about. WE didn't find out the sex. It was soooooooooo cool to see wee peanut again! Not so wee any more- weighs 400g and thigh bone 3.5cm long already!. Stubborn wee bugger refused to move on demand- hope that isn't a sign of things to come

skidaddle · 30/07/2007 13:01

excellent news suey2 - congratulations - it's so cool seeing them move around inside you, isn't it?

MotherofZ · 30/07/2007 13:06

bet it must have been really exciting to see the LO.
2 weeks to go until my scan....can't wait!!!

Poppy10 · 30/07/2007 13:44

Hi,

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place as this is my first time posting and have eventually plucked up the courage! I'm 38 and pregnant with No.1, due on 20th December, so now 19+4. I'm hoping I'm just being a bit paranoid, but is it normal at this stage to not feel any movement yet and not have a bump? I have put on a little bit of weight (5 lbs) and my waistbands are tight, but otherwise no one would really know and I feel exactly the same, so with not feeling any movement I keep wondering whether it is still actually there, but I haven't had any other things happen that the books tell you to be concerned about like pain, bleeding etc. My last scan was at 16 weeks as due to my hcg levels being very high I've to have a growth scan about every 4 weeks or so and all was fine at that scan.
Thanks

lindsayjane · 30/07/2007 13:59

Hi Poppy10 - I'm 22 weeks and have only just started feeling movements so you have absolutely nothing to worry about. I was concerned at 20 weeks so rang the midwife but she said it's normal to go to 24 weeks before you feel anything. Bumps are different with everybody too, everyones different. Mines quite noticable now but my sister-in-law was told by the midwife at around 30 weeks that she didn't look pregnant at all!!

Congrats suey2 - glad it all went well!
