I did it (slightly adjusted the wording - is it OK?)!!! Now all we've got to do is a link from the old one to the new one - I'll leave that to somebody a bit more competent!

By the way, I just go laalalaalalaaa when you guys talk about epidurals/pain relief etc. I really didn't enjoy having one when I had DS but I had to as they had put me on a drip and all sorts and I had lots of complications. Ended up with even more severe migraines for years afterwards too. Didn't have one with DD1 and much preferred the whole experience. If I can get away with it this time, I'm going to try and avoid having one (obviously can't predict how things will go!). Gas & Air me up all the way!!!

I have been incredibly lucky with ds, I can count the number of times on one hand where he has weed whilst changing his nappy. OTOH last night whilst bathing him he decided to poo, I had to fish it out with a cup first time he has ever done that.

I am glad to be having another boy, I feel I know where I am with them, I think I would be freaking out if it was a girl, it would feel like being a first time mum again. Also when he is older DH can do all the 'talks' with them

MrsMar · 17/08/2007 20:26

Me? keep my mouth shut? No chance

kinki · 17/08/2007 20:31

Yukko Mrs F, poo in the bath. Not nice. Ds1 (7) had his joke set out tonight and was playing with his plastic poo (don't ask). Ds2 (2) saw it on the floor and got totally freaked by it, shouting 'no touch poo poo on the floor, no do poo poo on the floor, no, norty'.

Don't bank on not having to do the talk with boys, I had to do it with ds1 a few months ago. It went well. He hasn't said too much about it since, until I was in the scan room this week. He then anounced to the sonographer (a colleague of mine) how this baby was made with one of dad's sperm. And that it was the fastest swimming sperm that made it. Thankfully he didn't go into detail how it got there. I suppose at least he must have been listening during the talk.

MrsMar · 17/08/2007 20:44

sweeeeet! that's really cute kinki (the bit about ds telling the sonographer how the baby was made - less so the plastic poo on the floor )

kyala · 17/08/2007 21:00

Hi ladies,
My attention span is rubbish today so I haven't read everyone's today, I hope you're all doing well though, I see a few of you aren't sleeping well either, mine's down to a mix of DH snoring, DD being a pain during the day and me not being able to have a nap at the same time she goes down, and LO having the time of her life in my tum!! Oh well, it'll all be over soon, and then I'll just have to contend with the bigger problem of whether LO and DD will take naps at the same time or will it be one up/one down all day? And then DH snoring and waking every few hours for LO's feeds, more than likely waking DD and starting WW3 every night?!! Can you tell my minds a little stressed?! LOL

As for nesting, I've donw a bit of washing and that's all I've got round to doing , the plan was washing/washing up/hoovering ground floor/washing kitchen floor and then the weekend on to upstairs and washing windows but, let's face it, what difference is a dirty window going to make to a baby?!

Have been putting off making up my hospital bag but think I should get to it soon, we only live (literally) 1 minute from the Hospital so I don't think I'll be putting too much in there even if I end up going in for water birth, just got to figure out the best pair of PJ's or something and the rest is easy!

Congrats on those who have finally finished work, put your feet up and start digging in to those chocs you blatantly deserve for putting up with the atrocity that is working whilst prenant

DH came home to tell me that he'd had a bit of a treat today, he's on a diet but had been offered a bacon and egg sandwich so had it (he's done really well the past 4 weeks), but, despite this, I felt it only necessary to ask where mine was LOL Typical hormonal mare eh?! Not happy for him just want mine mine mine!! The he tells me he's going out tonight to see a friend (female type that he used to have a bit of a fancy for) and, of course, the hormones kicked in yet again!! LOL I just cannot control them right now, told him if he takes too long out tongiht he'll be getting home to a locked door LOL

dal21: Well done on having a jim jam day, going to definately have one next week, might even make it a theme for both myself and DD, she can do a load of finger painting that way

Hayley2u: I sympathise totally, we were meant to be visiting a friend next weekeknd but DH's been asked to work cos someone else is in Hospital, all I could go on about was why couldn't they get someone in from another branch. . . pregnancy bwain has been V selfish lately LOL, but he has agreed that if they don't rota him his 2 days of during the week then he's NOT working the weekend (they owe him a load of leu (?!!) days as it stands!)

Having a laugh at MrsMar and the boy wee thing, I got warned last time about having to make sure willy was pointing down when putting a nappy on, most people wouldn't think about it until the worst happens, and it would be whilst you're out shopping wouldn't it?! Luckily never had to put it into practice what with having a girl.
I've always found it really weird when my friend changes her little boy, I guess it's just cos I've only had to deal with girl bits for the past 2 years and not had to hold anything out of the way or deal with the combination of poo and a willy!! Don't know how I'll cope if this LO turns out to be a boy LOL Hose it down maybe?!!
We had a poo in the bath scare a couple of weeks back, but it was DH in the bath with DD at the time so I just sat there in fits of laughter while he screeched "ARGGHHHH! She's going to poooooooo!" LOL She crouched down, facing away from him and he was shouting "NOOOOO! I can see it!!!!" LOL she got a bit shocked and stood up quick, didn't do anything in the end but I nearly wet myself!!

Anywho, that'll do for the night, I'm tired and might just have to go to bed now, or eat some more choccy biccies
Have a good night all

MrsBumblebee · 17/08/2007 21:49

Kyala, LOL at your DH in the bath . I can just imagine the same in my household!!

Thanks for the vaseline tip. Anyone know if baby oil would do the same job? I've already got some, but I don't know whether you're supposed to use it from when they're that born (and whether it would work anyway).

Also, can I ask a couple of you poor SPD ladies a question? For the last couple of weeks I've been getting soreness and stiffness in my hips and inside thighs, particularly if I've been walking around a lot. Is this something I should talk to my MW about, or is it just normal late pregnancy stuff?

JemimaPuddleduck07 · 18/08/2007 00:22

Good to read about changing boys nappies! I've got a so have been freaking out a bit that if I have a boy how do you clean its bits and being peed on constantly!

Have now washed the baby clothes 4 times..1st time put on line, the builders next door were cutting concrete slabs with a grinder..washed them again and put on line and came home to find dp cutting wood with electric saw next to washing so all covered in sawdust..washed again and put on line then other neighbours had a bbq and everything smelt of burger. Grrr..then (and I know this is turning into a shaggy dog story) washed final time, got safely off line and put on kitchen table to iron. Went upstairs to bath DD and came back down to find DP frying pigs liver in the kitchen...I give up!!

Is anyone elses baby's head engaged yet? I saw the midwife on Thursday and apparently bubs is 3/5 engaged.

clainne · 18/08/2007 09:25

Morning all
Hope you are all doing well & slept better last night

I have been a bit sick with a mystery fever and had to spend a few days in hospital so they could monitor me the LO, luckily it seemed to be completely unaffected by my sky-high temperature!! Everything has cleared up for me now too but have developed ridiculously bad itchiness all over my hands and feet so had to go back to the hospital again yesterday for a liver function test, results on Monday. Hopefully it will clear up before then as it is driving me nuts (which in turn makes me worry ? if I can?t cope with a bit of itchiness keeping me awake how will I manage with a baby??!!). Anyway, all this while we were supposed to be moving house so that has been postponed till this weekend?oh the fun!

Have just tried to have a quick catch up ? all these tips about nappy changing etc make things seem very real and close and I think I am still in denial that it is actually going to happen, to me - though having said that Kinki ? think you win top tip for dealing with meconium nappies ? sounds like an excellent strategy!

canadian mum ? LOL at your reluctance to say the word vagina, I am exactly the same, inhibited or what?! Maybe that?s why I?m in denial about everything at the moment!!

MrsMar ? hope your last day at work was good and enjoy the mat leave!

Sorry as have missed off loads of people but don?t think I can hide from packing/removals any longer.

Hope you all have nice relaxing weekends

Hopeitwontbebig · 18/08/2007 10:49

Happy Saturday all!

OMG I CANNOT believe how fast this thread is whizzing along now, it's getting so hard to keep up

I have been sniggering at all the messages re little boys and their willies. Top Tip.... you know when your boy is going to wee because their willy goes a bit erect! I too am a bit freaked about the changing a girl's nappy. I remember having a chat with a friend's hubby about it a few yrs ago, I asked if it was easier changing a girl and he said no, harder because of all the folds etc. He also said it sometimes made him feel a bit uncomfortable because if the poo got everywhere you had to get a bit 'intimate' with the wipes to clean it all out . I didn't think of that!

Dal you look ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS in that photo. I googled me just out of interest and only came up with stuff about DH's accident, well... at least I'm on there for something!

kinki, I've heard about the bloody discharge thing, yes it can happen with a baby girl too, something to do with hormones settling, also read somewhere that baby girls can lactate a bit in the beginnning, us girls eh, we're a bloody marvel, self sufficient from the very beginning

Canadianmum, I'm glad I'm not the only one who loathes the word, it's a vile word isn't it...have to admit, I do cringe a bit when DS1 says the word 'penis', la la la willy willy willy, oh grow up me!

MrsMar, you'd be amazed at what your DH is willing to do once he has a baby of his own. My DH is terribly squeamish, gags at bad smells, wouldn't touch my pregnancy test when I was asking his opinion on the line etc, but would happily change the most disgusting nappies, albeit gagging a bit at the same time!

Well I'm sitting here bolt upright still with a stiff neck . We went along to DH's physio appointment on Thurs, and his physiotherapist took one look at me and said 'Now THAT is a stiff neck', bless her, she booked me in for later that afternoon for an emergency appointment. Good job DH is being looked after by the boss of the physio dept, apparently I would have had to wait until September to be seen! Anyway, somehow or other 2 of my vertibrae have seazed up (C4 & C5) on the left hand side, they're almost interlinked which has left me with an odd tilt to my head. V V sore, she saw me again yesterday and is seeing me again on Tuesday. I think she wants me back in action asap so that I am able to do DH's physio for him, I've been unable to touch him since Monday Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease let this stiff neck bloody well go flipping well away before I have this baby

Who else is getting ridiculously uber excited now????? We're going to meet out babies soon, see what they look like, what colour eyes, what colour hair Woooooooooooohoooooooooooooooo!

Anyone got any exciting plans for this rainy day? Think I might gently suggest that DH starts glossing our door frames downstairs. The kitchen looks fab fab fab, granite is being fitted on Thurs, then we're back with a fully functioning kitchen!

Hopeitwontbebig · 18/08/2007 10:49

clainne, sorry to hear about your stay in hospital love. HOpe you're ok. x x

Chattyhan · 18/08/2007 12:47

Hello everyone - i can't believe how much catching up there is to do every time i log on!

LOL re nappy changes - DS peed on me several times so i got in the habit of keeping a box of tissues next to the changing mat so i had something to mop up with!
Re differences with girls and boys nappy changes i find boys much easier as don't have to worry so much about poo getting in bits! I agree with the pointing willy down tactic and making sure the nappy is a snug fit around tummy so wee doesn't come out the top! With girls the issue for me is cleaning poo out of vagina! My experiences with girl nappies are other people DC so maybe thats why it seems weird but one girl i look after frequently comes to me with old poo and in need of a good clean (i must say this tends to be the day daddy drops off)! I think it's important to be clean but it sometimes seems a bit obtrusive

Hayley i agree it sounds like a show but i think call your midwife and say it's happened because you're still quite a way off your c-section date - they may want to keep a closer eye on you or bring c-section forward. It was nearly a week between show and labour for me last time.

clainne - sorry to hear about mystery illness but glad you're doing better now

jemimapuddleduck - i was 2/5 engaged from 31 wks although baby does move in and out. seeing midwife at 36 wks (on mon) so i'll update then!

kelmcd · 18/08/2007 12:54

Hello! I'm new to mumsnet and was just wondering if this thread was open to anyone due in sept? I'm due on th 4th.

emj23 · 18/08/2007 13:29

Welcome kelmcd!
We've had a few new people join in the last few days, we should probably update the stats thread at some point...

FlossALump · 18/08/2007 14:14

Another tip for changing little boys nappies - Place a wet wipe over the potential danger zone - then if he does wee it just soaks into the wipe and not up into your face...

I too am a bit freaked by the idea of cleaning up girls bits... But I'm sure if needs be before long I'll be well used to it.

Is anyone else swinging between feeling almost convinced that baby is en route very quickly and then feeling just as convinced you will still be sat there at 42 weeks?? This is when I understand the so say 'too posh to push' crew who book in their c sections! Not in any way referring to people who've had them before or need them for whatever reason but I hope YSWIM!?

Clainme, glad you are out and hopefully feeling better.

HIWBB, sorry your neck is playing you up again. I hope you find the physio to be helpful.

I don't know if I am engaged or not really, baby is head down, but student thought that was all midwife 'proper' said it was engaged, but no record of how much. Not seeing midwife until 39 weeks now due to her hols. Am seeing GP next week but not sure what they will do/measure. I know I have a babies head in my pelvis when we go over speed bumps and I have a few new stretch marks lower down on my tummy which I'm guessing may be where baby has moved down. We shall see.

Hope you all have lovely weekends, we are doing basically bugger all!

kelmcd · 18/08/2007 14:19

I have just some stretch marks across the bottom of my too! none anywhere else.My babys head isn't engaged yet, tho on scan on thurs we couldn't see his face for the first time as it was a little bit too low, i can certainly feel his head hitting my pelvis when he wriggles!

FlossALump · 18/08/2007 14:22

aH I CAN'T CLAIM not to have any anwhere else - more just the case that these are the only 'fresh' ones!!! All the others are DS's fault!!

kelmcd · 18/08/2007 14:22

oooops bottom of my tummy. Pregnancy brain at play yet again!

kelmcd · 18/08/2007 14:24

I may only have a couple but they are whoppers look more like scars than strech marks. when is your baby due?

FlossALump · 18/08/2007 14:28

the 12th, so still theoretically a way off! I had DS a couple of weeks early though and am trying not to fall into the trap of expecting this one early too.

Chattyhan · 18/08/2007 14:43

floss - i keep thinking i could be going into labour but then nothing happens and i think he'll be late! My mum reckons i'll be 1 month early (thats this weekend) but she said that with DS and he was on time!

Don't get started on stretch marks! I'm covered in old ones from DS on thighs/boobs/all over tum... and this week i've noticed new ones appearing and every day there are more! For me this is the worst thing about pregnancy it's made me so self concious about my body and i really don't need any more come on little one i'm ready and waiting

kelmcd · 18/08/2007 14:48

did you use any creams of stuff, i know its all down to skin type etc but i have been usin cream since 15weeks and recently this new oil thing. Is it worth it?

hayley2u · 18/08/2007 14:50

hi all. i'm very bored today, just looking at car seats on ebay. my house is very quiet, with my lo in southport (pontins), glad of the break but miss him too. was supposed to go shopping to day to get ready for centre parks on monday, but decided to do it tommorrow, so miserable outside.
i have not phoned about the show as feel fine this morning, and suppose if anything going to happen it'll happen. just hope not at centre parks lol.

i'm expecting a girl this time and yer i'mmore worried about doing her nappy than i was with ds nappy. mind at least when they wee it wont fly everywhere lol

canadianmum · 18/08/2007 15:09

I had twin boys and only one of them would regularly wee on me at nappy change time. I finally learned to open the top flap of the nappy to give his willy some air and then put it right down again to catch the inevitable wee! Live and learn .

Welcome kelmcd - I am due 15/9 so 36 weeks today. I am over the moon to have reached this point as my boys were born at 32+5.

HIWBB - glad you are getting your neck sorted, it would be useful to have a fully functioning neck during labour wouldn't it?

Went for a nursing bra fitting at Blooming Marvellous today but she told me to come back at 38 weeks . I bought one anyway, size 36DD (I am normally a 34B!!). Feeling very Jordanish . Also bought 2 new maternity tops as most of my other ones just don't cover my huge bump anymore. DH was a bit mystified but I pointed out that I could have 6 more weeks to go and I need SOMETHING to wear during that time.

I think I might be developing stretch marks on top of my stretch marks - they are really purple - yuck.

Must go and do some more sorting out of baby clothes and then sew some more nametapes on school uniform (you first timers will have this joy in 4-5 years .

kelmcd · 18/08/2007 15:40

Does anyone things that are must haves for the labour bag! I have been reading thru the books etc and i think i've got the basics but would be grateful for any ideas on things which aren't generally on the list

sophus · 18/08/2007 15:41

pride comes before a fall, after boasting of sleeping so well. i had no sleep at all last night and couldn't get comfortable.

i totally understand the swinging between is it/isn't it - i go from thinking surely this must mean labour is on its way to i'm going to be two weeks late.

But i feel ready now - albeit in a totally unprepared and completely terrified way.

Bring on the babies i say.
