I did it (slightly adjusted the wording - is it OK?)!!! Now all we've got to do is a link from the old one to the new one - I'll leave that to somebody a bit more competent!

By the way, I just go laalalaalalaaa when you guys talk about epidurals/pain relief etc. I really didn't enjoy having one when I had DS but I had to as they had put me on a drip and all sorts and I had lots of complications. Ended up with even more severe migraines for years afterwards too. Didn't have one with DD1 and much preferred the whole experience. If I can get away with it this time, I'm going to try and avoid having one (obviously can't predict how things will go!). Gas & Air me up all the way!!!

Dal - I saw the other pic too, its amazing the difference. As you say, fitted is definitely the way to go. I always feel nicer when I have a fitted top on

toadstool · 17/08/2007 16:39

LoopyLouLisa, I'd been on codeine 4 times a day for a month, and it was withdrawing from it (by cutting down slowly to once a day, then dropping it) that caused the symptoms 24 hours later - but the GP said I'd need to wean myself off it roughly 10 days before the due date because of the risks of it affecting the newborn. He said it was a small enough dose to have little impact, but that it was 'sensible given the circumstances' to stop the codeine well before giving birth. I hope that helps.

I've got an even better tip than vaseline for those muconium poo filled nappies - don't do them. Instead magnaminously step aside and let dh/dp roll his sleeves up and get stuck in (literally) . I think it's a kind of retro-macho thing, a lot of the fellas I've known (including dh) feel like its some kind of rite of passage to be the one to tend to lo's little bot-bot in the first few days. I didn't get a look in with either of mine for days, whether I liked it or not! But I suppose if you're feeling generous you could always share the vaseline tip with them though.

Got the email thanks dal.

I wish my nesting thing will kick in too. It's got as far as my brain, but not quite my motor neurons. Mind you I did the world's biggest pile of ironing at - wait for it - at 4 am. Quite a few of us were up last night weren't we. Something in the air again. I did think about logging on, but didn't think there would be anyone to say hello to. Next time I might try.

hayley2u · 17/08/2007 18:11

advice anyone
iv been getting little twinges all day like period pains, just got home went toilet and sorry if this sounds gross but wanna in need of advice. had like a dark colour in my knickers, and when wiping, quitea bit, very dark brown, tiny bit gooey. what is it?

FlossALump · 17/08/2007 18:15

I was wide awake too! Getting lots of niggley pains. Thought I'd get up this morning and my bump might have dropped or something, but no, nothing! And comfortable again today. Have gone on a mission trying to get last few bits sorted. Still trying to sort a tens machine. Thinking of buying one and then re selling. Came home and made up my moses baskets (one upstairs one down!), made up bouncer chair and packed hospital bag mostly. Also constructed the rocking frame for the basket. Sterilised a few bits to make sure they are extra clean!

here's hoping we all have a better night tonight shall we? Dp is out on the town tonight - so we shall see. I don't really want him out drinking after now - is that horrible of me?

I plan to BF this one, I BF DS till 5 months then mixed fed him until 9 months. I generally find he is quite a healthy little soul which may or may not be anything to do with the BF, but enjoyed it and would hope the same for number 2!

Oh, have to get dinner out for me and DS - will try and post better tomorrow/later! Sleep well everyone!

MrsMar · 17/08/2007 18:16

Could that be a little bit of a show hayley? I can't remember when you're due, but has your mw mentioned shows? It's when the little mucus plug blocking your cervix starts to come away, it may be smeared with a little bit of old blood, which is why it's brown. If you're concerned can you give a mw or out of hours doc a call?

Kinki - I love the tip for those meconium nappies... sadly don't think dh will be the type to take over, I had to work very hard to get him to to the cat litter tray, and he still does it while rolling his eyes and making the most ridiculous gagging noises! Pathetic!

MrsMar · 17/08/2007 18:18

forgot to say, if it is a show Hayley, it's nothing to worry about, just the normal thing that happens as your body is getting ready to have the baby.

hayley2u · 17/08/2007 18:22

i am not due for 4 weeks. no midwife not told me but did not have one with ds, should i do anything?

kinki · 17/08/2007 18:26

You may be pleasantly surprised Mrs M. Before you know it, he'll be closely inspecting and analysing your little babies poo like the best of them. I'll put money on it. Say 10p?

TwitmonstEr · 17/08/2007 18:29

it sounds like it is a show imo, if you are worried phone your m/w or the hospital but I'm sure they will tell you that it could be weeks away [well, 4 anyway lol]
I don't know if it happens closer to the birth with second etc babies, so please check if you are concerned.
My ds1 was born 4 weeks early with no problems at all, so please don't panic as even if you do go into labour tonight, everything would probably be ok.
I'm 36 weeks as well, so waiting somewhat impatiently for a sign!

MrsFish · 17/08/2007 18:31

I don't remember having a show at all with ds1.

TwitmonstEr · 17/08/2007 18:31

good tip. I posted that one in the hints and tips but I'm glad some one else has heard of it too [makes me feel less of a freak]
vaseline also good on your bits if weeing stings, apply a little before you go and crouch over the toilet lol.

hayley2u · 17/08/2007 18:41

ok i'm more relaxed knowing that, put a pad on just in case, my watersid not break last time so doubt they wil this time, m/w had to. do you think it is wise to mention it to anyone as i am supposed to be booked in for c section, or just take it as it comes

MrsMar · 17/08/2007 18:41

Hayley - from what I remember the mw told me, some people don't get them at all (or at least until they're in proper labour and don't notice), some people get them early and some get them during early labour. If you're worried and it would calm your mind call someone, but it sounds like nothing to worry about to me. You don't have any other signs of labour do you?

Kinki - I'll take that bet, sounds like you're not to confident on my dh if you're betting 10p? to be honest I wouldn't put anything more than that, I'm sure he's going to be a great dad, I fully expect him to blub like a baby at the birth, but he's such a wimp when it comes to poo and such like! Silly boy!

MrsMar · 17/08/2007 18:43

Now that I'm not sure about Hayley... forgotten you were booked in for cs. I guess have a chat with mw tomorrow, it could be a sign things are starting to happen and they may want to reassess when your cs happens. When are you booked in for cs?

emj23 · 17/08/2007 18:43

This is going to sound ridiculous, but I had completely forgotten how messy babies first poos can be, thank you for the vaseline tip, I rememeber how long it took clean up DS the morning after he was born Also, I'm slightly concerned about this baby being a girl, I've never changed a girl's nappy before and they have so many more... folds and things for the meconium to get stuck in (ewww, sorry). Am I going mad to worry about such a thing?

MrsMar · 17/08/2007 18:47

emj - I'm the total opposite, I was worried about changing boys nappies! terrified of damaging his little bits

hayley2u · 17/08/2007 18:55

i wasa told i would go in for my c.s the wek of 8th september but they will not give me exact date until they know rota on 29 august.
i have ben getting period pains but thats about it

kinki · 17/08/2007 18:58

I'd feel the same emj, I wouldn't know where to start with little girls, well I would, because I've done my nieces and goddaughters. But I feel very cackhanded doing it. No worries with boys though. Their bits are definately a whole load tougher than you'd think.

Which reminds me, and talking of tips, there is something I wish I'd been told about boy's nappies after the birth. Both of mine on their first day had a small amount of a bloody discharge from their penis. Freaked me out when I first saw it. Apparently its totally normal and to do with their changing hormone levels. Just wish someone had warned me about that beforehand, so thought I'd share. I've no idea if something similar happens with little girls or not.

Oh, Mrs M, I have every faith in your husband! I'm just a tightwad, that's all!

canadianmum · 17/08/2007 19:06

emj / kinki - as mum to two boys I am totally freaked by idea of having a girl, not just all those folds to clean but telling them about periods and things (I know that is far in the future but it freaks me out for some reason ). I also much prefer the word "willy" to the word "vagina", can hardly say it without choking, isn't that awful? I must be repressed or something.

Welcome sparks!

hayley - you will probably feel better if you call mw in the morning, just to be sure.

dal - thanks v. much for email, it is fun seeing everyone's real names

Saw my GP today, my leucocytes were a bit high so she is sending off for a test, nothing to worry about but just being extra careful. Good news is that she is convinced bubba is head down, we shall see if she is right on Monday!

emj23 · 17/08/2007 19:15

LOL canadianmum, I haven't thought that far ahead! I do see what you mean though... eek!

Thanks kinki, glad I'm being any more odd than usual, it's quite a relief. The heartburn and lack of sleep are bad enough without worrying that my mind's going too...

MrsMar, changing boys nappies is dead easy, not that I have anything to compare it to yet, but I was told before I had DS by people who had both sons and daughters that boys were way easier.

Welcome sophieandbelly and sparks02!

MrsMar · 17/08/2007 20:01

Phew! that's a relief emj and everyone else! I thought that everyone would say it was a nightmare with pee everywhere from waggling willies !!

What scared me about girls... and this is as case of me reeeeeally over thinking.... I was terrified that if I had a girl and she turned out to be gorgeous I'd be really jealous when she gets to about 14-15 and was leggy, young, fresh and beautiful. Pathetic isn't it cos of course I'd adore my daughter too, but I guess I was just having one of those hormonal wobbles...

I was quite relieved to find out I'm having a boy, I can't be jealous of a boy. The period thing wouldn't freak me out much, I've done the whole talk with my cousin when she came to me scared one day. I'm more nervous of when my little boy starts doing boy things... I'm thinking w@nking off etc !!! Always makes me think of that movie Parenthood, with Keanu Reeves, when the mother thinks her son is on drugs but it turns out he'd been getting hard ons and was masturbating loads and was too embarrassed to ask anyone as he thought he was wierd... aw bless! it took his sisters boyfriend (Keanu Reeves in the film) to work it out. I guess that's what dads are for isn't it?

Kinki - don't have too much faith in my dh, I don't !!

kinki · 17/08/2007 20:09

Oh yes Mrs M, the little boy's fireman's hose syndrome. That's funny. And wet. Happened all the time with ds1, but never with ds2. Had forgotten all about that.

MrsMar · 17/08/2007 20:11

i have a recurring nightmare of pee ending up in my mouth...ewwwwwwww!

kinki · 17/08/2007 20:14

Well, at least urine is sterile. Could always keep your mouth shut while doing changes.
