Brand new thread ladies! We went through the last one so fast! Let’s hope this one brings us lots of lovely scan photos.

It will be the 11th July, just seems a long wait. I tried calling but they're closed so I'll try Monday. Not sure why it's stressed me out so much, I think it feels like I have no point of contact and I'm alone.

Anon120 · 31/05/2019 17:25

@LillyLeaf I called to change mine and they were very helpful. May be worth giving them a ring and explaining? 11weeks does seem late x

Anon120 · 31/05/2019 17:27

And totally understand the feeling alone part. My nurse referred me and I heard nothing for weeks so ended up self-referring. As it's my first I was so confused / worried. Hopefully they take into account how far gone you are- the only thing I can think of is that they might be abnormally busy? Xx

LillyLeaf · 31/05/2019 17:28

Yeah I'll try to change it. On the NHS website it say this......should happen before you're 10 weeks pregnant. This is because you'll be offered some tests that should be done before 10 weeks.

Teaonthebedsheets · 31/05/2019 17:29

LillyLeaf, is that with your doctor surgery or the hospital? At my surgery, the midwife appointments get booked up extremely quickly because she only works one day a week, but you can get seen much faster by the community midwives at the hospital. You won't get the same consistency of care but if you've booked through your GP surgery and can't get anything earlier it might be worth calling the hospital instead. I agree that I would be uncomfortable having the booking appointment so late.

AstroKate · 31/05/2019 17:39

I've got my booking in appt tomorrow

Can anyone expand on what tests will be offered and how dangerous they are. I'm 38 so anticipating an amount of tests but DH can't come with me tomorrow so would be good to discuss beforehand

Thanks!

Cannyhandleit · 31/05/2019 18:04

@AstroKate you'll have bloods taken and a urine sample in your booking appointment. In Scotland you also do a breath test to check if there is nicotine in your system but they didn't do that when I had my first in England.

DaisyMay25 · 31/05/2019 18:11

@AstroKate they did the nicotine test to me, it's just blowing into something.

I'm not sure on bloods I think it was HIV and some others but not dangerous (unless you've had issues with blood tests before) I think she took three vials off blood from me and urine (I did the sample before I went in to save time)

mynameisMrG · 31/05/2019 18:16

You have to do a urine sample for every midwife appointment you have so they can check for protein. I always forgot to had to sit there downing water to try and make myself go.
I also had the nicotine test last year.
I think you will get extras if you are at risk from things like sickle cell etc

Wow, this thread is on fire, it moves so fast! @LillyLeaf I've just seen this on the NHS website "Screening for sickle cell disease and thalassaemia should be offered before 10 weeks." Mine is an ivf pregnancy too and am also worried about how late my booking appointment is- I'll be 12.5 weeks!!! I'm going to try to change it but finding it impossible to actually talk to someone about my appointment..so I've emailed. Anyway, I had a booking appointment in my last pregnancy which ended in a mmc, but I know I don't have sickle cell or thalassaemia so I'm a little bit more relaxed about it all!

NewbieMam · 31/05/2019 18:47

I haven't got my booking appointment until I'm 10/11 weeks, this is my first, should I be worried about that? We thought it seemed really late too. Mainly worried about how long it'll take to have a scan after that too! But I feel the same about no point of contact right now, no where to voice concerns or ask questions

TheOnlyMrsA · 31/05/2019 18:56

@NewbieMam so will this be your first baby? It'll be my first due around the 22nd up fo now. Just praying for the best!

How are we all doing? Xox

TheOnlyMrsA · 31/05/2019 19:00

Also girlies I'm completely new to mums net, I joined in my last pregnancy and I lasted all of a week (miscarried) didn't really get involved. So if it takes me 6 days to reply bare with me 😂😂🤦🏻‍♀️!

Mum friends needed! Xox

DaisyMay25 · 31/05/2019 19:10

@TheOnlyMrsA welcome! First baby here too, miscarried at six weeks last time so I know how you feel. How far are you now?

TheOnlyMrsA · 31/05/2019 19:24

@DaisyMay25 I'm 6+2 now so slightly further along than I got to last time and hopefully things are all good. I'm getting an early scan next week to check progress and we've had - early scan 2 weeks ago where we saw a lovely little sack of pregnancy! Xox

NewbieMam · 31/05/2019 19:40

@theonlymrsa yes first baby Smile I believe I'm due around 15th but paid for an early dating scan on 9th June to find out!
Hope for best for everyone x

Mirana · 31/05/2019 19:57

Evening!

Came seconds away from actually throwing up today. Trying desperately not to be sick yet as I think it's going to be a floodgates situation, but I feel nausea ALL THE TIME. Last week I had a few waves that were 10mins or so long and I was like "wow morning sickness sucks".

I HAD NO F*CKING IDEA. It starts for me around breakfast (8.30am) and doesn't ease off unless I sleep in the afternoon. Today it didn't stop until 5.30pm, I've just had half a muller rice and it's back again. I'm grateful everything is healthy, but I feel terrible and very grouchy Grin

Mirana · 31/05/2019 20:06

In other news, I had a chat with GP today over the phone (they're being pretty great for now, a rarity).

I asked about weight gain, as I was feeling a bit concerned. I took the following notes:

  • In the first trimester, expected gain is between 0.45kg - 2.25kg.
  • Completely normal to gain, stay the same, or lose, there's no "normal" (as long as it's not drastic).
  • Weight gain comes from baby, increased fluids, water retention and you body makes more fat to feed baby.

HOWEVER. She did say that in someone like me, who struggles to control my weight, I may find myself at the upper end or slightly exceeding that bracket. Your body stores fat to feed the baby over next 7-8 months, and if your body is very good at storing fat (like mine) you may gain slightly more. She said whilst I'm so sick, to basically eat what I can within the guidelines and don't pay too much attention to it, and it will also fluctuate - your body also retains more water, which is added "weight" that will go up and down. She said the professionals will keep an eye on it, and basically just "eat what you can".

I also lost a lot of weight in the last 18 months but when you stop "dieting" you also gain (which is why she said diets suck but whatever). Essentially, none of us should be worrying unless we're gaining/losing half a stone a week consistently, and the pro's will handle anything necessary. Made me feel much better!

That’s good to know @Mirana

Hi can I join? I’m pregnant with my second child, due date Jan 30th. My ds is nearly two so it wasn’t that long ago that I was pregnant, but I forgot how difficult this early stage is. I keep worrying that I’m not pregnant anymore! Any tips to cope with the anxiety? I’m planning on booking an early scan which will hopefully help.

Soph43 · 31/05/2019 21:20

I’m wondering if anyone has any advice... I’m not due my nhs scan untill 21st of June so bit the bullet and paid £90 to get a private one on Thursday, it’s it silly to be worried... I hear so much about MMC and how people didn’t even know.. will be 10 weeks though so will be past the 9 week mark I’ve read so much about :( first pregnancy too xxx

megganonion · 31/05/2019 21:39

Oh my @newbiemam, thats amazing!! Congratulations on bfp, it really is an amazing journey. Ive told my close family and friends and hubbys parents and siblings. We had a family function and couldnt explain not drinking, and they knew we wer intending on having another one soon. My youngest is almost 3 now eldest is 9. I think im still in shock! We were in disneyland for easter and sharing a room with 3 kids (no business done that weekGrin) so im pretty sure i concieved before we went away around the 18th/19th april, i asked for a dating scan and was told was not needed as i will be dated at 12 week scan. Hoping it will be end of june as my birthday is 29th and would be a lovely gift to get Smile. So tempted to go private but trying my best to hold out, i have midwife 10th june hoping to at least hear heartbeat with doppler as ill be 9+ weeks then going by last withdrawal bleed. I only bled for 2 days very light after coming off the pill never got a true period, and being honest i wasnt great at taking the pill the last month cause i knew i was coming off it Confused

MrsM18 · 31/05/2019 22:21

@Soph43 Not silly at all, I'm sure most of us are going through those emotions. This is my second child, and my anxiety seems to be worse this time. I've got my 12 week scan on 24th June and an early scan on Sunday just to try & reassure myself - so I think I will hopefully calm down a little when I see that little heartbeat x

NewbieMam · 31/05/2019 22:34

@megganonion and congratulations to you too!! Though you might be futher along if you missed a few!!

We've told parents, siblings (only one brother each) and some of my closest friends as we went away with them 2 weeks ago and had to explain not drinking too!

I think we've only gone private for first since it's our first child and we have no idea what to expect, my booking in appointment isn't until 20th June, and then we're not sure how long after we'd have to wait for scan? 20th will be week 10 I think, though when the assistant at gp booked it she knew I'd be that far (we actually thought it was week 11 at that point) so hopefully not too long after!! You'll have to let us know how your booking in appointment goes!

TheOnlyMrsA · 31/05/2019 23:02

@Mirana thanks for the weight gain info, that's made me feel better that I look like a complete PORKER at 6 weeks 😩😂!

I was sick today, I'd just want a pint of really cook water and a nibble on a a digestive to try and make it pass ... instead I had to bounce to the loos in work and throw up, but it wouldn't stop for a good 10 minutes and I'm so sorry for the overshare but it was actually cold puke, so that shows how quickly a pregnant tummy can flip. Xox
