Crikey. I'm mega-early, but did a Clearblue early detection test today and here I am! Hopefully some more folk will join me soon.
Second baby for me, already have DS who is 4. Feel like I've forgotten everything tho!
Eeeeeeek!

Is anyone else due a leap year baby? 29/02/20 is our due date, and it's our first :)

Hi everyone, I am new to this group (hello!) due 23rd Feb. 2 days before my own birthday, which is lovely. All so far so good. Any other older mummies out there? This is my first and I must say the minefield of information out there about everything from bottles to prams is confusing me right now! Anyone else in the same boat?

Hey @Curlymumma & @LemonadeAndSchnapps welcome! I think this chat is super quiet as most people migrated over to Facebook really early!

Congrats to you both on your new though, and if you want to join the fb group just shout Smile

Hi everyone, I was part of the early thread and drifted away, but I really need to write this down. I had my anomaly scan yesterday. They found baby had a bilateral cleft lip and palate and that baby was not opening their hands. Best case is they weren't able to see hand opening on screen and it is just cleft lip and palate which will need surgery to repair. The worst case right now is that the hands and face are connected which points to a chromosomal abnormality. I have been told that it is unlikely to be Downs syndrome, which leaves the other trisomy's and a raft of other conditions. I am going to have an amniocentesis to try and find out more.

I can't believe that I have gone from a really easy pregnancy to somewhere between baby needing surgery at 6-9 months and being incompatible with life

@GoodShipSerenity so sorry you're going through these stresses - I can't imagine how worrying the wait will be. Have you got a date booked in for the follow-up?

As you said, fingers crossed the baby was just being difficult and keeping their hands still.

Will be thinking of you. Hope the midwives and antenatal team are looking after you and you've got the support of people to talk to IRL

@ECPCR2 thank you for your kind words. I now have an amniocentesis booked for tomorrow afternoon, my mum is coming to look after DS and do the nursery pick up for us while DH and I are at the appointment. DS has autism and developmental delay so we are really trying to keep his routine the same as much as possible.

Thank you @Givealittlebit and @AiryFairy1991. Amniocentesis is now done, we are waiting for results which will take 10-14 working days to fully come through. We will see the results for Downs/Edward's/Patau's in 5 working days which is next Wednesday. I had a good chat with my mum last night and today and we have friends on hand too. I'm so fricking scared about the results and we are trying to keep things as normal as possible for DS

@GoodShipSerenity, sorry I’ve only just seen this as haven’t been on mumsnet for so long. I’m so sorry to hear about this, it must be such a worry. I hope you get the results soon and you have the information and support you need to get through it all. Thinking of you 💐

@GoodShipSerenity did you hear back? Let us know if you need anything!

I have good news! The amnio has come back with no significant abnormalities detected, which doesn't exclude minor stuff it does mean it is the best result that we could have hoped for. So just the cleft lip and palate to concentrate on now. We have an appointment with our Cleft Nurse on Tuesday, to look at next steps and we have had a referral sent to a doctor with a special interest in Clefts who can offer a 3D scan and talk to us.

@ECPCR2 and @Givealittlebit thank you. It has been such a relief that it is nothing more serious. We have had 2 meetings now with specialist nurses and it has been so helpful, and they have taken it at the speed at which we are wanting to hear information. We will need to attend hospital appointments every couple of weeks to make sure that initial treatment is going well and that baby has not outgrown the plate made to cover the pallete. The first surgery will happen at 3-5 months old to repair the lip and another surgery for the pallete at a year old. There may be a need for a further surgery later to take bone from baby's hip to close a gap in the gum. I will have more information about feeding shortly before Christmas. And the specialist nurse is wanting to arrange for us to meet some of the surgical team, orthodontist, psychologist and speech therapist in the near future. So my mat leave is going to be very busy. How is everybody else getting on with their pregnancy?
