Welcome!

OP posts:

yardette - big to you. Thanks for the pep talk! I too am trying to be positive (despite feeling more bleugh today), on the basis that most pregnancies end happily with healthy babies, plus it's more fun daydreaming about having a fun bouncy baby than worrying about bad things.

yardette · 01/08/2007 14:15

yay!! Lets be happy HolidayQueen and everyone else!

Think my positive vibes are because I've o'd on chocolate endorphins by having 2 massive hot chocolates in place of my old coffee fix, plus a Green and Black choc bar - I heartily recommend it. I refuse to feel guilty about it - I've eaten my 5 pieces of fruit as well already. I am going to get massive but hey, who cares??

I haven't been asked about my hospital yet and don't know anything about what choices I might be offered. I feel very unprepared next to you lot!

HolidaysQueen · 01/08/2007 14:18

Tee hee - i'm eating chocolate raisins at the mo on the dubious assumption that this way i can get one of my 5 fruit portions in at the same time as getting a choc hit...

preggersagain · 01/08/2007 14:19

oooh chocolate raisins- gotta have some!!!

derah · 01/08/2007 14:24

That's more like it, I like the positive attitude! That's what I was saying earlier, that chances are higher that everything will be fine than that anything will go wrong, so I refuse to worry. Of course, as soon as you find out you're pregnant for the first time, you're worried for the rest of your life! I still worry about dd and whenever I go into her room at night the first thing I do is check she's breathing. Usually she's snoring so it's not too difficult! But like Yardette said, it's crazy to ruin this happy time by worrying. Cheer up everyone and have some chocolate on this lovely sunny day!!

Sooooooooooooooo bored at work today. My boss is away and hasn't left us enough to do. There's only one thing that I could be doing this afteroon but a vital computer component that I need to do it has gone missing, so I've got nothing to do at all! [bored emoticon]

timmyinatizzy · 01/08/2007 14:38

'ere preggers fancy sharing any of those chocolate raisins?

preggersagain · 01/08/2007 14:40

NO!! Get your own

Only joking!!

Happy now?

timmyinatizzy · 01/08/2007 14:42

4! is that each or to share?

preggersagain · 01/08/2007 14:43

to share

i've eaten the rest

sorry!

timmyinatizzy · 01/08/2007 14:45

Humpff. Now I want some of my own too. All I have of my lunch is an apple which I always leave to last. The Penguin got munched very early this morning!

preggersagain · 01/08/2007 14:47

i'm off to get some more! shall i get you an extra pack?

timmyinatizzy · 01/08/2007 14:51

Yes please

preggersagain · 01/08/2007 14:58

I've cleared them out! Julian Graves does 1kg for 4.59 worth every penny!

c4it · 01/08/2007 14:59

Timmy - you are sooo good - I'd eaten my whole lunch by 10.45 . And on the positive vibes Aren't we all clever for growing brand new human beings!!! I can never get over how amazing that is !!

preggersagain · 01/08/2007 15:04

i'm having a ............baby?? oh dear god!!

Today, it's just hit me square in the face that i'm actually having a baby......... me............ soon, arghhhhhh!! A new little person to look after, to keep me up all night, to scream 23 hours a day- can't wait its worth it in the end!

timmyinatizzy · 01/08/2007 15:04

Cheers preggers.

Not really so good c4it. Had 3 tuna and cucumber rolls, packet of crisps, small pot of grapes, big wedge of homemeade cake, all by 1pm . Plus a bowl of Rice Krispies for breakfast, although they are like eating fresh air! I do find that I get hungrier earlier in the day if I have them, but I just couldn't stomach, weetabix or mini shreddies today.

imjin100 · 01/08/2007 15:27

OK so my attempt not to look has failed, and thank goodness it has. The positive vibes coming from our page today are quite amazing. I just want to say a big huge thank you to everyone for it...I feel much happier just reading this. I won't mention everyone by name but excellent positive attitudes going on - i love it and I'm all for keeping this up.
Now, I know I haven't been here today but any chance of any left over chocolate raisins do you think? If I eat another ginger nut I'll be sick!

As for the moths Love&Squalor, dh leaps about from the bed desperately trying to kill the smallest animal in the world! At least we're not trying for romance at the moment because his manic death hunt would put pay to that!

Brazilianmum · 01/08/2007 16:09

I generally feel hungrier in the morning which is a big change for me as most days I would leave home without breakfast and grab a coffee on the way in.

Really enjoying eating oranges at the moment, apples and grapes are also good. But don't think it's all healthy here, had a massive jacket potato for lunch with cheesh and sweetcorn.

I tried to eat ginger biscuits to easy my queasyness but it hasn't really helped. I think I will make a ginger cake and put double dose of ginger in it. Or might just nibble on little packets of pickled ginger you get for sushi which is a bit of a torture as I so miss sushi.

I am enjoying the positive vibes and have been pretty open with people around me about being pregnant. told my family as soon as I found out and told work people at 8 weeks. I just think that if something happens I will need some support to get over it. But as it is my first time I was also very excited and wanted to tell everyone.

Fainted on the train on the way home yesterday. Coulnd't get a seat and the train from London Bridge was pretty crowded. Just as we were pulling up to my station I couldn't hold on any longer. Luckily two nice ladies helped me off and stayed with me till I felt better. Must make sure I get a seat from now on.

yardette · 01/08/2007 16:31

(I wish mumsnet wasn't quite so difficult to hide at work... am sure my assistant has spotted the word "mumsnet" at the top of my web page and looked at me strangely!)

Brazilian mum - take care and make sure you do get a seat tonight at london bridge and hope you don't faint again. I get a train from Blackfriars and NEVER get a seat on an evening! looking fwd to the day I can glare at people and point at my obvious bump!

hope you all have a good evening and stay feeling positive!

LoveAndSqualor · 01/08/2007 16:43

imjin, I'm so glad it's not just my DP who does the leaping/swatting thing! Definitely a passion/respect/concentration on the TV-killer, as you say ...

Brazilianmum, I'm having exactly the same thing with early morning hunger, too. Normally eat breakfast in work; can't go more than 10 minutes after waking without food nowadays. Happily, I am less hungry than I usually am in the evenings, so hopefully this means I won't end up looking like the side a house at three months instead of nine ..

piekin · 01/08/2007 18:43

Hi , what a lovely vibe on the board today , everyone v. positive if not hungry or a bit pukey but still proud of ourselves!

I've been feeling icky all the day n now drinhking lemon and gignger water seems like a permanaent fixture as what I thought was flu turned out to be permanant ms feeling! .
My G>P was also as useful as a choc fire guard, ( I love that phrase!) and did't do anything except say congrats and give me a huge PILe of paperwork and a load of leaflets for catalogues etc!!! She didn't notice the R.neg on my records so I didn't tell her. Will tell the midwife whn I eventually see her, ( can't believe I have to wait till mid september!!!. Also they don't seem to scan until 14 weeks. Darn I want to know if it's twins . DP coming to visit this eve, we have been getting on quite well but I don't feel like talking to anyone at the mo, ( nausea)....

piekin · 01/08/2007 18:46

OH brazilian MUM etc, it may be a ridiculous idea but you get these little fold up walking sticks that have a stool that you can sit on, I think they are canvas with plastic legs, maybe it is a ridiculous idea but even perhaps a retractable walking stick might give you a bit of support on the train, it is rather worrying the thought of you fainting!Poor you! Carry a bottle of water to sip or maybe sucking some mints might help ?

turtle23 · 01/08/2007 19:02

Lovely positivity today, just what I needed! I am a nanny looking after a nearly 2 year old. Today I found the one thing that triggers sickness for me. Pushing her on the swing. The sight of it going back and forth was too much, and had to turn away. Needless to say she thought it was funny, and stayed on for 25 minutes!!
You are all so lucky having dates for your appointments. My consultant is on holiday STILL so won't even get a date until at least next week! POUT.

FlossieF · 01/08/2007 19:14

Hurrah for positive thinking! Long may it continue.

Hospitals is one thing I'm not going to worry about. I live a few minutes down the road from Bham Womens, so would be foolish not to sign up to go there. MIL was, until recently, in charge of midwifery in the West Mids. and says its a good place to go, so that's that.

Our cats would love a moth infestation. Moths are about the only thing they can catch. They won't, however, appreciate the arrival of a baby.

In the spirit of positive thinking, does anyone have any tips relating to the cats and baby combination?

cricri · 01/08/2007 19:29

I've been busy at work all day but was keeping an eye on the thread this afternoon - you all made me quite hungry with your talk of chocolate raisins etc! Had a huge plate of pasta for dinner - not sure if it was a craving but that was what I wanted and nothing else was going to do!
FlossieF - I'm also going to have the cat/baby problem, although we've just got the one cat. Not sure what he's going to make of it all! I read somewhere that you should allow the cat to go in the baby's room when she/he is not in there so that the cat gets used to the smells etc. and doesn't think there's some great mystery behind the closed door. Apart from that I don't have any useful tips - my friends with cats and babies say that it's not a problem. Perhaps one of the others has more suggestions?
