Thought we had better start a new thread - wonder if we'll see some (more) babies arriving on this thread...

I know @Yukka! He sort of tipped it sideways and it went everywhere Grin Mad isn’t it, I swear I spend most of my time imagining what his little face will be like.

Hope everyone’s been ok in the heat. I have a poorly dd so we’ve been inside all day anyway.

Hello everyone, more baby news! 😊

Our baby girl arrived this weekend by EMCS (rather than ELCS) because of some last minute complications. Everyone doing well consideing and she's absolutely perfect. 😍

Some random thoughts (ftm):

• the moment they lifted her out of my tummy and I laid eyes on her, all scrunched up and wrinkly, OMG I've never felt anything like it in my life, pure joy, and I'm not usually in any way sentimental I'm mostly a bit grumpy really;

• the baby's random twitching movements in their sleep are not only perfectly normal but quite recognisable as those felt in the tummy, that's kind of sweet;

• I'd been having unusual poos for a fortnight before we did the EMCL (and wasn't in labour) so I don't think they are an indicator of anyhing by themselves;

• the postpartum bleeding is a lot and tenna lady pants/giant nappy things have worked better than pads while I've been mostly in bed;

• newborns are amazing, they change within hours and you just can't help but stare at them - try to also sleep when you get there, we are both exhausted!

Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday! Hospital time is weird, it's like another planet.

@StargazyDrifter amazing news congratulations! Glad to hear it all went well despite being unplanned. Lovely to read your tips!

Let us know when you have a name for little one and hope you catch up on rest in between feeds x

Aww congratulations @StargazyDrifter! 🙂

Jxtina86 · 30/06/2019 08:06

@StargazyDrifter huge congrats! Love your observations - especially the movements in her sleep, adorable! And good tip on the bleeding aspect. Enjoy every moment with her and hope your recovery goes well!

blueeyedviking · 30/06/2019 08:27

Congratulations @StargazyDrifter ! That's amazing news, and thank you for all that extra insight too. Truly makes it real!

Hope your recovery is going ok and enjoy this special time 😍

Kentishgal · 30/06/2019 08:35

Aww huge congratulations stargazydrifter - fantastic news. I hope you're ok and recovering well. Did you end up going into labour? Glad it all went ok though in the end. Enjoy these moments. Can't believe you ended up having a June baby!

Huge congratulations @StargazyDrifter! Glad you're both doing well. Love the random thoughts too 💓 xx

TwinkleDay · 30/06/2019 10:13

Massive congratulations @stargazydrifter so pleased for you even under the last minute change of plan by the sounds of it

How much did she weight and how many weeks / days were you?

My baby wants a July birthday by the sounds of it... 🙄

Capybaras · 30/06/2019 10:17

Congratulations @StargazyDrifter glad you're both doing well! Love your observations!

I was just thinking that @TwinkleDay looks like I'll definitely be having a July baby unless something drastically changes in the next few hours!

It's so much cooler here today which is lovely!

Went in for monitoring yesterday as baby wasn't moving as much but all fine thankfully. First time I've been in for it and at 38+5 think I'm just getting a bit twitchy that I've made it so far and something going wrong at the last hurdle! Hope
Everyone else has had nice weekends!

BirthdayKake · 30/06/2019 10:19

I'm 38 weeks tomorrow and my 3 year old has got chickenpox 😩 nooooo!

cravingmilkshake · 30/06/2019 10:22

Massive congrats @StargazyDrifter so so pleased for you. Smile

Kentishgal · 30/06/2019 10:28

Oh birthdaykake that's rubbish for you - hope it's over quickly and not too painful! twinkleday I was 2 weeks overdue with my daughter and I just remember being so fed up and anxious with each day that went by - but in hindsight I probably should have just been enjoying the time to myself!

OP posts:
TwinkleDay · 30/06/2019 10:29

@capybaras well baby was due Thursday ... I think something is happening then it just turns out to be a fart 😂😂

TwinkleDay · 30/06/2019 10:30

@kentishgal what did they do to monitor you ? Did you have a sweep or anything and how much did she weigh?

Kentishgal · 30/06/2019 10:55

twinkleday I had a sweep at about 41 wks but then was induced at 41+4 (so 11 days over) - no other monitoring but then it was my first pregnancy and I was low risk then. I can't remember if this is your first? Have they given you a plan? I tried everything other than the...ahem...thing that's meant to work! I did try reflexology after my sweep and I lost some of my plug (not sure if that was the reflexology or sweep) - I suspect being less anxious would have helped me!

OP posts:
Yukka · 30/06/2019 11:02

@Kentishgal any tips on being induced...?

Kentishgal · 30/06/2019 11:05

yukka not really I'm afraid, I think it's so different for everyone. I had the pessary and the drip. I've heard anecdotally that contractions are more painful but I have nothing to compare it to. Are you being induced - have they told you when?

OP posts:
Capybaras · 30/06/2019 11:24

Oh so you're close then (hopefully) @TwinkleDay how are you feeling in general?

Oh no about chicken pox @BirthdayKake not great timing! Have you already had it?

Yukka · 30/06/2019 11:35

@Kentishgal yes I am, have scan and checks on Wednesday and we'll book it then. I'm told they use a gel now, every 6 hours x3 then drip, instead of pessary then drip, apparently more effective. Got visions of days and days in hospital so trying to prepare in a positive way.

TwinkleDay · 30/06/2019 11:44

@kentishgal I want everything to happen naturally really I have already tried everything they say can trigger labour last week, I feel fine but just getting fed up. I have an appointment again - hopefully not on Thursday where they may sweep me but it doesn't sound right and I have heard it makes things more painful, I definitely don't want to be induced if I can help it. I know exactly when we conceived so I don't know how much more Bob on I can be.

There's only so many times I can run the hoover round and steam mop the floor before I go mad 😑

Jxtina86 · 30/06/2019 12:13

@Yukka my midwife mentioned a gel too before they go for the drip. Not sure if it's standard across all trusts, but with the gel she said I might be able to go home rather than stay in hospital. Also here they auto book you in for an induction at 41+5 if you haven't gone into labour naturally by 41. I'm quite glad she told me that now as gives me time to mentally prepare over the next few weeks!

@TwinkleDay I can't remember if you said before but has your baby engaged? Midwife said to me it was only worth her doing a sweep at 40 weeks if baby had engaged (at 38 it hasn't yet). I'm getting fed up of waiting so happy to go with her advice at my next appt!

Jxtina86 · 30/06/2019 12:19

Btw if anyone is thinking of using a Tens machine in labour - I've hired one from a company on Amazon called Birth-ease. £23 (compared to £30 hire fee the hospital wanted) with free delivery. Ordered mine on Thursday and it turned up yesterday. Free return 3 weeks post your due date. Just thought I'd share in case anyone was interested!

Yukka · 30/06/2019 12:31

@Jxtina86 thanks - I've also booked a tens machine should arrive soon.

I'm high risk (actually lower end of the risk scale for the condition I have really) and they wanted to get to 37w, I'm 36w today. And don't want me to go past 40w as I've now stopped the medication and need to get back on it after birth. Because of this they won't let me go home once I'm in, which is a shame as live literally a mile from the hospital but I'll just do what I'm told. I think if all is well on Wednesday they'll book me for 39w and then we'll see if anything natural happens before. Acupuncturist is lined up with extra sessions!

All of my antenatal group have had their babies! All of them 2 around weeks early!
