Thought we had better start a new thread - wonder if we'll see some (more) babies arriving on this thread...

Hello lovelies thanks for the new thread kentish xx

Stargazy yes think a travelodge would do! My aunt who lives nearby has also offered to have them stay with her which I think might work. I really don't think they can stay here...

How's everyone doing? I met some old school friends this evening who both have young children so we were chatting away about what it's like - childbirth, having a newborn, your relationship etc. It's made it all feel more real this evening and whilst it's daunting I am excited too.

I saw the midwife the other day - they've put me on iron tablets as the baby is stealing all mine, and they've booked a growth check scan as bump is measuring a bit ahead. I'm still feeling the lack of iron - quite breathless and faint at times, but otherwise good on the whole!

Trying2bemum · 16/05/2019 22:26

@thedust lol at your work fart Grin I am so bloody full of wind at the moment! I'm always after a good moment of privacy to let it out hahahaha

Trying2bemum · 16/05/2019 22:28

Is anyone else looking at reusable wipes by the way? I think we're going for a cheeky wipes starter kit to see how that goes. If it saves us using some disposable I'm happy.

Is anyone getting an Elvie pump also? My friends were raving about it earlier. It's expensive but I'm tempted...

StargazyDrifter · 16/05/2019 23:23

You are most welcome blueeyedviking, always easier to offer advice to someone else. I just lost the plot over some wallpaper samples... tomorrow is another day.

The farting is definitely real and I am also always searching for the next available opportunity to do it discreetly.

Trying2bemum I've had my eye on that pump for a while, and would like a pump, but the John Lewis lady at the nursery appt said they'd had quite a few Elvie ones returned because of them getting "stuck" 🤔 and I've been meaning to read up on that more.

Hope all goes ok with the scan, it'll be nice to see the baby again! Did you even find out the sex?

I'd definitely take your aunt up on the offer! Partly because you just don't know what it'll be like, and if it does prove too much it'll be too late/awkward to rehouse them!

Tmi alert, does anyone have increased and more watery discharge now? I think probably normal but have heard about amniotic fluid leaking out day by day, rather than waters breaking in one, and that does cross my mind sometimes.

Capybaras · 17/05/2019 08:11

Omg the farting! That's brilliant - I've actually somehow become less constipated/gassy over the past 2 weeks (not really sure how that's happened but I'm not complaining).

We've gone for the cheeky wipes @Trying2bemum - bought the starter kit to give it a go. Think we're aiming to use them mainly in the house and wipes when out and about, but if they turn out good and easy to use then may use full time!
I keep on seeing ads for the elvie but the price has put me off. Also all the ads show less well endowed women, I feel like it'll just look like a giant nipple on my boobs at the moment!

After today I only have 16 days left in work!! Can't come soon enough, I feel like a whale now. Baby is so heavy, when I get out of bed in the mornings my back is protesting and I've had to buy a special pillow for my coccyx as sitting down in work all day is killing me.
Anyone got nice plans for the weekend?

thedust · 17/05/2019 08:35

I've not really felt that gassy but I think the combo of pressure from the baby and pelvic floor weakness let one escape 😲

We've got the cheeky wipes, I got an extra 10 too and might order some more depending how we get on. We're doing cloth nappies too, going to an antenatal event at the cloth nappy library on the bank holiday Monday to learn a bit more.

The Elvie pump does look good but the price is definitely off-putting. And it's only a single pump too. I'm going to wait to see how breastfeeding goes before buying a pump.

We've got our NCT course starting tomorrow! I'm at the midwife this morning then got the rest of the day to myself so I've made a list of things I want to do around the house. Then maybe have a nap later!

Trying2bemum · 17/05/2019 10:30

Stargazy that's interesting - the lady at our John Lewis appointment couldn't say enough good things about the Elvie! We're saving money elsewhere with some inherited items so I think I'm going to go for it. We are not going to find out the sex - we've come this far and I'm quite excited for finding out at birth now. Not long to go! And Yes I'm getting sooooooooo much discharge - mainly white but also watery. It's rather annoying!

Capybaras I was thinking the same thing about cheeky wipes at home and disposable out and about. I also know what you mean about Elvie! My boobs are enormous...

Hope it goes well with the midwife and NCT
thedust. We start NCT Monday. Am excited!

TwinkleDay · 17/05/2019 15:35

Any one off to the nec this weekend for the baby show in Birmingham ? We are going tomorrow..

Currently sat waiting for our mamas and papas truck load to turn up today, all the big stuff 😁

Giraffe888 · 17/05/2019 16:22

Afternoon ladies

Hope everyone is well. I too agree with the trumping! Mine seems to be mid-afternoon!

We had our 4D scan last night and it was incredible, we loved it. We saw baby yawning, sucking his hand, sticking his tongue out and hiccups. She said he weighs about 3lb 3oz, I’m 30 wks tomorrow so I don’t know if that is about right.

She did say my placenta hasn’t moved 🙁 still time I’m guessing though. Got a scan to check that in 3 weeks x

thedust · 17/05/2019 16:33

All fine at the midwife, my blood test needed to be redone because my white blood cells were slightly high but I was just getting over a cold so that makes sense. Nothing to worry about, iron is fine.

Been to Boots today and bought some more things for my hospital bag, think I'm pretty much ready now! Also got a nice cellular blanket and muslin blanket.

StargazyDrifter · 17/05/2019 18:11

Happy weekend everyone!

thedust we start NCT tomorrow too! I don't think you're in London though. Not sure I feel all that sociable, or ready to learn, at least everyone else should be feeling similarly tired. Glad your tests were good and well done on the hospital bag. That's a big thing to pull together.

Trying2bemum completely get that about keeping it a surprise, it'll be so lovely. 😍

Giraffe888 glad you had a good scan and the baby did some posing for you. They make it all so real, don't they!

Had a decorator round today with a view to getting a few things sorted by mid-June, including the nursery. I can't help but feel we might have left it all a bit late. All this organising and planning is hurting my tired brain, and I haven't even thought about the hospital bag, which I should so as almost 33 weeks.

For anyone interested in discharge vs leaking amniotic fluid (whoa, what a statement!) the amniotic fluid is clear and sweet-smelling, as opposed to the whiteish discharge stuff. You can also buy pads from Boots that will turn blue if it's the fluid (that would be a bad thing). I don't think I have this, having read up more, but if I get any more than currently I might get some of those for reassurance.

Jxtina86 · 17/05/2019 18:42

Yay for the weekend! Although I'm officially on count down mode - 2 weeks left at work and it honestly can't come soon enough. The commute is killing my soul and I'm shattered before the day's even begun.

We had our second NCT this week and everyone is slowly warming up to each other - it's a good group of all similar ages and everyone seems to be on similar wave lengths. Think we all bonded through awkward silence, struggling not to laugh when the instructor gave an Oscar worthy performance of a woman having a contraction. We all applauded out of sheer shock and admiration! Have three more classes this coming week (2 evenings plus next Saturday morning). DH and I also have a separate hypnobirthing course tomorrow so it's going to pretty full on!

Beckanne90 · 17/05/2019 21:15

Aw thank you @birthdaykake

Hope everyone is well and as good as can be 😃

Eliana is over 2 weeks old now and 31+5 in gestational age- she’s been moved from ITU yesterday to HDU and then today she’s been moved to the nursery which basically is the room before home. She is having no medical help at all other than tube feeds. So all we have left to do now is establish feeding and grow. Her weight gain has been very slow and then has remained static since Monday (she’s still below birthweight) so that is being kept an eye on but otherwise everything is on the up 🤞.

Trying2bemum · 17/05/2019 21:47

That's brilliant beckanne, what a little trouper. I bet you can't wait to get her home. How are you feeling?

Jxtina the commute is the worst part for me too. I am getting better at asking for a seat! I've got 8 more weeks I think...

Stargazy that's interesting re the boots pads I've never heard of those. Very clever! If it makes you feel any better, our spare room is completely unchanged apart from I'm trying to get to the bottom of a damp patch on the wall... we've got time to get sorted.

Giraffe that sounds like a lovely scan experience

Twinkle did your stuff come? How exciting !

Beckanne90 · 17/05/2019 22:04

@Trying2bemum, I really can’t. I’m feeling ok, everything is abit mad trying to split myself in half between my kids at home and Eliana in hospital and all the expressing. But physically I’m feeling ok, recovered well this time all things considered x

Trying2bemum · 17/05/2019 22:07

Beckanne it sounds like you're doing really well. Hope she's making her way home soon!

Kentishgal · 18/05/2019 11:07

Glad to hear Eliana is getting there and fingers crossed she'll be home soon. Must be do difficult splitting your time. My daughter and I have both had some sort of illness this week - she has a chest and ear infection but seems to be improving - I've had conjunctivitis in both eyes and now I've got white spots all over my tonsils and really sore sinuses - so think I'm coming down with sinusitis and tonsilitis - both of which I'm prone too. Urghh sick of the rubbish illnesses this pregnancy.

OP posts:
Capybaras · 18/05/2019 13:49

That's great news @Beckanne90 ! Sounds like she's made brilliant progress, hope you're ok too. Must be tough juggling everything, especially after you've just given birth.

Having a quiet weekend, so going to start sorting out some bits for baby - May wash some baby grows etc to make the most of the sunshine! Also trying to get some more hypnobirthing under my belt.

Hope those of you on NCT classes this weekend enjoy!

Yukka · 18/05/2019 14:55

@beckanne90 really great to hear how well she’s doing, your clearly doing a fantastic job xx

DianaBlythe · 18/05/2019 15:14

Just checking in and placemarking!

Sorry to hear about all the work related stress @blueeyedskydiving. Was lovely to see all the support from you lovely lot though!

And @beckanne90 so lovely to hear about Eliana being stepped down from ITU. She sounds amazing!

Yes I’m also getting lots more discharge. Mostly thin and watery white. Keep panicking it’s mucus plug!

Struggling a bit more with work now, 33+5 and working 2 more weeks. The on-call is busy and the running around is getting a bit hard, the rest isn’t too bad, it’s the commute and the fact I’m not sleeping. Can’t get comfortable, feel sick when I lie down, sometimes vomit, sometimes roll onto my back then wake up with cramp as my legs have no blood supply! Wondering if I can get signed off my last couple of on calls but there’s nothing specifically wrong and it wasn’t actually too bad on Friday, but could be killer if it was and that’s very much out of my control!

TwinkleDay · 19/05/2019 08:42

The mamas and papas order came and have a team on men on board today to assemble :)

The nec baby was good, got lots of freebies too and a slot with an expert about sleep and when to establish a sleep routine .. so she said 6 months! That's when baby's brain is clever enough to self soothe and start to understand.. now has anyone else got any experience with this ?

thedust · 19/05/2019 12:22

@stargazydrifter no, we're in Liverpool, that would have been a coincidence! I already 'met' one of the mum's on the course via the mush app. It went well, seems a nice group. Back again for another full day next Saturday and then a half day breastfeeding workshop.

I am feeling very tired today, stayed up too late watching Eurovision!

StargazyDrifter · 19/05/2019 20:05

thedust same on Eurovision! I just couldn't stop!

Ours was two full days this weekend, so I'm feeling pretty exhausted. Nice group here too, but being "on" for two solid days and learning a whole load of stuff over the two days that would usually be downtime has been really draining. Wish they'd split it the way yours did. We do also have the half day breastfeeding session next weekend. All that said, I still think better this condensed format and not the week by week one, which I won't have coped with when still trying do achieve stuff at work and coming home dead on my feet.

Overall I'd say it was very helpful. Liked a couple of people in particular and can see myself catching up with them outside of the group. Content was good too and I was impressed with the evdocnce-led approach and c-section acceptance. For some reason I had thought it was going to be a bit more "earth mother". Must admit my head is spinning a bit from ALL the things that can/will happen. Had a little cry when I got home, like an over-tired toddler.

TwinkleDay they said that at NCT too about 6 months and sleep training. No experience of this myself though, I'm afraid.

33 weeks today and starting to feel uncomfortable and huge. Maybe also a little bit excited as only 6 weeks to go (ELCS week 39).

thedust · 19/05/2019 20:59

I'm glad ours wasn't 2 full days - there's too much other stuff we need to get done at the weekend! Agree that the week by week one would have been a drag too, I'm so tired in the evenings now. 3 weeks left at work for me. 8 weeks until due date. I've really lost my appetite now, there must be no more room for food, it's all taken up with the baby!

StargazyDrifter · 19/05/2019 21:03

Same on the appetite. Had thought it was part of the hyperemesis coming back (which it has, how lovely). But maybe there's also a physical element to it!
