Thought we had better start a new thread - wonder if we'll see some (more) babies arriving on this thread...

Oh gosh! Car seat is poised however we have my car and OH work car so not sure which it will go into yet.. but I did get leather look seat protectors for my birthday to protect the immaculate thing from everything that will come next !

TwinkleDay · 09/06/2019 09:05

Anyone got a birth plan drafted...

Mine includes a water labour and active birthing... gas and air.. and OH Doing the gender reveal. Then naturally passing placenta, delayed cord clamping, min 1 hour skin to skin and vit k injection for LO .

This is our first so doesn't always go to plan, however I am giving birth in midwife led unit NOT a hospital.. ideally. I have had my risk assessment there and apparently am low risk .. touch wood xx

Jxtina86 · 09/06/2019 09:22

@TwinkleDay mine is similar to yours. Haven't written it down but gone through it with DH and think I'm supposed to discuss with midwife on Tuesday at my 36 week appt. I'm hoping for birth centre too but ours is in the hospital just on a different floor to the labour ward so just a lift ride away from an epidural if I want it!

Chinks123 · 09/06/2019 10:58

I haven’t drafted a birth plan, as last time went so out of the window I don’t want to get my hopes up this time.

I do want a water birth, which wasn’t possible last time, and I am just praying my placenta passes naturally. Hoping for more skin to skin aswell, but if I have to be taken to theatre again it won’t be possible.

Trying not to stress and now I’ve got que sera sera stuck in my head, as that’s all the midwives keep saying Grin

Yukka · 09/06/2019 11:03

I’m doing my birth plan next week when I finish work but I’m limited. High risk and booked induction. I think I can include pain relief, delayed clamping, music/hypnobirthing stuff, gender reveal, skin contact, and what to do if we end up c section. Everything else is out of my control. But be glad to get LO here safely though no matter how we have to do it!

stephn88 · 09/06/2019 11:27

Hopefully doing my birth plan next week to, hoping for a water birth....

Have woken up this morning with half a tooth missing, really not happy and it's making me very emotional! Time to register at a dentist next week I guess! (I moved towns not long ago hence why no dentist yet!)

cravingmilkshake · 09/06/2019 11:45

Does anyone else get excited when there is a new post on our thread? I keep thinking a baby has arrived ❤️❤️

TheScaredyKat · 09/06/2019 12:04

My car is far from immaculate, we live in Cornwall and have a dog so generally the car is filled with sand and I just accept it.
I won't let DH put car seat in his car because he pranged it seriously and so you can't open the passenger side back door anymore.
My birth plan is also fairly similar and also hoping to be in Midwife led birth centre inside hospital. Any deviations from the plan might mean that I need to move to delivery suite but it's only down the hall.

Giraffe888 · 09/06/2019 12:30

I’ve not got a birth plan and now I’m having a caesarean I’m not going to do one. I was undecided whether to anyway but definitely not now x

Capybaras · 09/06/2019 12:34

@TwinkleDay mine sounds same as yours! Going over my birth plan tomorrow with the midwife so will let you know how we get on. Do they have a look around your house when they come? She's been before for my booking in appointment but the house is currently a tip as we've had some
Work done and my DH is finishing off a work course so we haven't had much Time for sorting. Nursery isn't even started and I'm worried she'll want to see it and think we're living in a sty!

TheScaredyKat · 09/06/2019 12:46

@Capybaras My midwife didn't look around the house when she came for birth plan appointment last week so I wouldn't worry. We just sat at dining room table to go through it and then I laid on sofa to have bump measurement done. Maybe they would want to if you're planning home birth, I'm not sure.

TheScaredyKat · 09/06/2019 12:52

@Giraffe888 you could just have a condensed one maybe? I've included in mine that we would want screen up as DH is very squeamish even though I'm hoping not to have Caesarean. Also you can specify about cord cutting and skin to skin if it's possible. I even read somewhere that you can request to have your own music on in theatre.

cravingmilkshake · 09/06/2019 13:08

I'm not going to have a birth plan- it's my first and really don't want to feel horrified when something doesn't go to plan- so I'm just going to go with the flow. The only thing that has to take some planning is we have chosen future health biobank to come and take cord blood for storage but husband is in charge of all of that!

Capybaras · 09/06/2019 20:09

Great thanks for reassuring me @TheScaredyKat been so busy today sorting the house out but feel like it's no tidier! At least I've got through 5 loads of washing and binned a lot of stuff! Absolutely shattered now, hopefully will sleep well tonight

TwinkleDay · 09/06/2019 21:44

Midwives and health visitors don't look around your house, I found this out after we had a massive blitz.

BeckyButterfly · 09/06/2019 22:49

@TwinkleDay I haven't had my initial HV visit yet but everyone I know who has said that they looked round most of their house. They asked to see where baby would be sleeping so looked in their bedroom and the nursery. They also conveniently needed the toilet so obviously checked at the bathroom too.

Jxtina86 · 09/06/2019 23:00

The HV didn't look around the house either. I gave it a quick hoover in the morning just in case but she was more interested in giving me info and cooing over the cat lol.

TwinkleDay · 10/06/2019 08:53

@BeckyButterfly you are the only one that has then after talking with 40+ women! Lol

Kentishgal · 10/06/2019 09:19

Hello, hope you all had good weekends?

I don't think we get a HV appointment before the birth this time - but last time they didn't look around the house before or after. My friends and I all commented on how strange it was that none of the HVs accepted a tea or coffee or used the loo - it was as if they'd been told not to! And mine was here for two hours each time she visited!

No birth plan here (I really think it ought to be called "preferences"!) - last time I wrote an essay of do's and don't's - this time it'll be "get her out safely!!". All joking aside though, I think it's useful as a point of reference and to get your own thoughts in order in your mind.

I've decided to book two weeks annual leave before mat leave (starts on 8 July) - so now I only have two weeks left - can't wait! My HR department finally sent my letter 10 days ago - but they sent the wrong one (I'm on a very old contract which has better terms than the firm we merged with) so they said they would reissue. Today I received a narky email telling me I hadn't signed and returned the letter - erm well that's because you haven't actually sent the correct one yet! We're a form of over 3000 in this country alone, you'd think they'd be a bit more on the ball. Last time I heard nothing from them until about 10 months into my leave when one of the partners rang me and said "just wanted to check you hadn't fallen off the face of the earth"!

Still really suffering with the piles - need to go back to the gp as you can only use this cream for 7 days. That'll be yet another person looking at my bum then. I guess the only blessing is that at least I'm having a elcs as I imagine the last thing you want to be doing is pushing!

Capybaras · 10/06/2019 09:23

I've definitely overdone it this weekend - just had a quick hoover before midwife turns up this afternoon and getting pains in my stomach and feeling a bit sick. Come for a lie down now. Need to realise my 36w pregnant body isn't up for as much as ore-pregnancy!

That's interesting about the tea/coffee my midwife wouldn't accept any drinks as she said some of the homes she visits she wouldn't want to use their loos!

Piles sounds horrible @Kentishgal but better to have a million people look at them and get them
Sorted. My friend who's a gp said he literally doesn't care what he sees anymore as he's seen is all!

Finish work this week and can not wait. Definitely need a lot more rest now, just need to get everything finished before Friday!

Capybaras · 10/06/2019 09:24

Also no idea if health visitor is coming here- haven't heard anything but my SIL said they came to her house when she was pregnant so assume we'll get a visit at some point

TwinkleDay · 10/06/2019 09:41

@Kentishgal owwie with the piles, I have been alternating with dried fruit to keep things moving dates one day and apricots the next.. already eat a varied diet... and also I have been practicing perennial massage every other day for the past 3+ weeks and that seems to helps with the movement!

Helpful tip of the day maybe lol 😂

Kentishgal · 10/06/2019 09:46

Ha ha thanks Twinkleday - unfortunately I already have dried prunes and apricots coming out of my ears! Although fortunately the antibiotics are stopping any constipation at the moment! I'm also taking dulcoease! I just think it's the pressure of baby and the cough - every time I cough I can feel it, it's horrid. I was walking round yesterday saying to my husband, I swear baby is bouncing up and down on my cervix - she feels like she's ready to come out at any given moment (or cough)!

Capybaras · 10/06/2019 10:08

I still feel like I'm not doing the perineal massage right Confused not sure how many ways there are to do it but so far don't feel like I've made any difference!
