Thought we had better start a new thread - wonder if we'll see some (more) babies arriving on this thread...

@TwinkleDay maybe it's where I live 😂 they don't trust people round here to have safe homes! Haha.

Yukka · 10/06/2019 20:26

I’ve got health visitor coming in Friday, got the impression be a short visit she just mentioned a blue baby book that I’ll need to bring with me in future..?

stephn88 · 10/06/2019 21:51

I had to go and see our health visitor, just ahead a chat about things, similar to my books appointment with midwife and she gave me the baby's red book, which is what all there birth and childhood health info will be recorded in, so you'll need it for every appointment etc...

stephn88 · 10/06/2019 21:51

Had not ahead....

TwinkleDay · 10/06/2019 21:52

@Capybaras it's hard to reach isn't it, I try to do 10mins a time, and rub round then erm... pull in different directions to 'feel a burn' burn has eased now after doing it for 3+ weeks

If that helps... just stimulate the area plenty so it's used to it for later 😬

Capybaras · 10/06/2019 22:24

Yeah that's sort of what I've been doing @TwinkleDay it just seems such an odd thing to be doing! May have to get DH to get involved as I get bigger!

blueeyedviking · 11/06/2019 09:56

Morning all. Ive got my 36 week scan today, hopefully everything still looks ok 🤞

Is anyone else getting sick of constant toilet trips? Also the baby's hiccups are so low down now, feels very odd.

My DH is going on his last work trip before baby today. He seems a bit nervous, but as I've got my scan first I think that will hopefully reassure him all is well. He is only a 2 hour flight away so not too bad.

Jxtina86 · 11/06/2019 10:26

Morning all. Just got back from my 36 week appt and seems that baby has moved since last time and is now breech. I'm being booked in for a scan in the next few days for them to confirm. Midwife gave me some tips on getting baby to move naturally (lots of dancing at the Spice girls this Saturday lol!) But if not, reckon I'll try an ECV to see if that helps. Anyone had one before?!

Capybaras · 11/06/2019 12:41

The hiccups are so weird now the baby's engaged - such an odd sensation on my cervix ha!

Oh no that's so annoying @Jxtina86 - this is my first so no experience with ecv but my friend had it done and they successfully turned the baby who stayed in the right position until birth. Fingers crossed baby will right themself

Jxtina86 · 11/06/2019 13:12

@Capybaras that's encouraging from your friend! I thought if be adverse to an ECV but feel at this stage it's worth a shot. The irony is that I wrote down my birth preferences last night which now seem a bit pointless until we know more!

Kentishgal · 11/06/2019 13:19

Good luck blueeyedviking! jxtina86 I didn't have an ECV in my last pregnancy but the midwife Saud she was breech but then by the time they scanned me she had moved (I tried moxibustion so whether that did the trick I don't know - and lots of bouncing on the ball etc) but I did read up on it and decided not to go through with it because of the risks - albeit they are v low and I think my midwife thought it was the wrong decision to decline it! I've heard they can often turn back too. GP thinks I might be anaemic or have thyroid problem as having so many palpitations (I thought it was the infection but that is clearing up and heart is getting worse) so having blood test tomorrow - I was a little bit anaemic at my 12 and then 28 wk test - but still not seen a midwife so nobody has actually looked at my bloods yet!!

Jxtina86 · 11/06/2019 13:26

@Kentishgal haha I've been bouncing on the ball since I got back from midwife! She was convinced it was head down until she tried to find a heartbeat and it wasn't where she expected it to be. I'm hoping it will move - lady in my NCT was breech last week and just went for a scan and her baby is now head down so hoping for the same. Yes planning to do some more reading on ECV before my scan so can head in informed just in case.

Kentishgal · 11/06/2019 13:31

Good luck "jxtina86"! The alternative was that mine may have been head down all along and she just had a massive bum! Funnily enough, I can feel the same massive bump in the same position in this pregnancy (seems to have moved over the last week) so maybe my babies just have prominant bums....

OP posts:
Jxtina86 · 11/06/2019 13:50

@Kentishgal I've always had a boney bum so it might have just inherited that lol.

TwinkleDay · 11/06/2019 15:28

My babies bum feels rather large too!

blueeyedviking · 11/06/2019 18:09

My scan went well, baby is growing and in the right position. And he is apparently 3/5 engaged so all moving in the right direction.

The DH is now away until Friday, he was nervous about leaving me 😊

Jxtina86 · 11/06/2019 18:57

@blueeyedviking how exciting!

StargazyDrifter · 12/06/2019 03:03

I seem to be fully awake. 😖 Tomorrow's a write-off then.

My baby is also breech as of very recently and I've got a MW follow up next week tomake a plan. Not sure I'd be up for an ECV, even though the breech position is quite painful, for the reasons mentioned.

Kentishgal sorry to hear you've got yet more bumps in the road - not long now! Your description of HR/partner did make me laugh. I used to work in a place just like that. Good you're going early.

Total sympathy with the 36 weeks pregnant body not keeping up! I had to have a nap after some cleaning! 🙈

What has everyone ended up with as a breast pump? That's the last thing I need to get.

thedust · 12/06/2019 07:06

I've got a hakkaa milk collector. Not got a pump yet because I've heard you shouldn't pump until after 6 weeks to get feeding on demand and supply established. Unless of course baby is unable to feed for whatever reason. I just didn't want to waste a lot of money either incase things don't go to plan with breastfeeding. The Elvie looks amazing but so expensive. Going to start collecting colostrum from 37 weeks.

I was awake at 4am yesterday too! Got up at 5am, pottered around for a bit and had a nap on the sofa. Then went back to bed at 8am. Slept better last night though.

Capybaras · 12/06/2019 07:18

I've got the haaka milk collector too and a Medela Manual pump. Didn't want to buy an electric pump until I know that I get along with breastfeeding.
Why is it the final weeks of pregnancy when you want to be resting most that your body decides to not let you sleep! Typical.

Jxtina86 · 12/06/2019 08:28

Haven't even got a nursing bra yet let alone a breast pump! Heading into town today though to pick up the former though. Did some research last night on ECV and now in two minds. I'm hoping baby will just turn on its own still but an ELCS is starting to look like a better option in terms of planning (DH is also keen on this as I think the unknown of spontaneous labour is playing on his mind - only taken him 8 months to realise this... lol)

TwinkleDay · 12/06/2019 08:47

@StargazyDrifter haven't got a pump yet as best to establish things first before using one, there's always an offer on and I have researched the electric ones.

I do have nursing bras though, two in current size and two in estimated day 3 milk size! Who thought I went from a D to a DD to potentially an E !

Wish this rain would do one though! Warm and dry please

Kentishgal · 12/06/2019 10:31

I didn't breastfeed last time but going to give it another go this time - I've got really inverted nipples and she just wouldn't latch (tried for two months and didn't latch once) but maybe this time it will be different. Also, in hospital a kindly midwife spent 2.5 hrs trying to hand express for me...but to no avail...my boobs never got any bigger in pregnancy or afterwards so maybe they were empty 😏 (apparently blood loss affects milk supply as well so maybe I'll have more luck this time). That said, I'm totally prepared for formula feeding and I'm completely ok with that this time 😊 I would like to get some colostrum out though - any tips or advice this time much appreciated?

StargazyDrifter · 12/06/2019 14:59

Thanks on the pumps evehine! I also got the Haaka one and will hold off on the electric one until after the birth.

Jxtina86 commiserations on the breech and your DH thing make me laugh. We were already going down the ELCS route but now it seems pretty certain. I'm 36+3 and my next MW appt isn't until 37+5, seems a little too late but that's all they could do. Think they'll confirm plans then. A stupid question playing on my mind is whether they can still do the near low down scar with a breech baby, or whether they have to go vertical. 🤔 It doesn't much matter in the end, but might affect all the recovery pants and stuff.

StargazyDrifter · 12/06/2019 15:00

Kentishgal same about collostrum. I am going to a BF class at the weekend and will report back if I glean anything!
