Yeh maybe the teething rails aren't requires. Maybe if it's just a horrible surface they won't want to chew on them!

Oh megan don't worry, it will all come together. Just put the bags in a room and close the door!

Stroan · 12/05/2019 13:41

What are teething rails?

DH did a half marathon today and DD and I walked round various parts of the route. I pushed her in the stupidly heavy stroller for about 3 miles and can hardly move now. You'd think I was the one who ran 13 miles.

We also saw a little boy fall off a big playframe at the park, he was completely silent and an ambulance had to come. Needless to say, DD was bribed straight back into the buggy and didn't have a play. It was awful and I can't stop thinking about it.

kyles101 · 12/05/2019 13:42

That's my solution to filing whisky

@Stroan omg that's terrible. Hope he's ok.
Teething rails go around the bed and baby chews on them if they have sore mouth...I think!

IVEgottheDECAF · 12/05/2019 14:25

stroan that sounds scary! I have just returned from being out taking dc to activities and picking some shopping up. Pushed dc4 for over 2 hours and now collapsed on sofa.

excitednerves · 12/05/2019 15:16

@megan2018 - same here, although to a lesser extent. We don’t have much space and wondering where all the baby stuff will go!

@stroan oh no I hope that little boy is ok

Teething rails are plastic (or can be fabric) covers for the edge of the cot so if the baby chews on the top rail it doesn’t end up chipping off paint etc. Lots of cots I’ve looked at have come with them on the long sides.

Stroan · 12/05/2019 15:34

Oops, never even heard of teething rails. DD didn't chew hers though, teething wasn't bad at all thankfully.

The little boy didn't cry, he was silent at least until the ambulance came. I couldn't see, and didn't want to, but I can't stop thinking about how quiet he was. We've been there loads and I've honestly never seen any risk but it's high and there's obviously space for children to skip through the gaps.

TwittleBee · 12/05/2019 20:45

Think I've actually popped out today. I've felt really uncomfy and have noticed the solid ball of a belly plus my Nan exclaimed "Twittle, you're bigger now than when you was with DS at the end!" - FYI, I'm not anywhere near as big as that and my Nan is the sort of woman who asks non-pregnant people how close they are to giving birth... My mum properly laughed upon hearing this said about me too.

kyles101 · 12/05/2019 22:33

I'm looking forward to being the age when I can get away with saying anything. I definitely think I pop more as the day goes on still. My sister made me laugh the other day, she poked my tummy then went "oh, it's actually hard" like yeah thanks, you just thought it was too many pies 🙄

Think baby has shifted and is a little more vertical, had reduced movement today and was slightly concerned, but have been busy pottering and hadn't really eaten too much. Sat down for a yummy roast lamb dinner and got plenty of kicks after but literally straight down... now I'm in bed also noticing gentler fluttery type pokes higher up near my belly button - punches?

happydays00 · 13/05/2019 06:43

@Stroan that sounds such a horrible thing to witness! I hope the little boy is ok!

I got four hours sleep last night (combination of stress, new house and unsettled dogs) so feeling dreadful today and wondering just how unreasonable it is to book DD in for an extra days Nursery tomorrow so I can sleep before work starts again on Wednesday?!

@kyles101 I have had similar over the weekend with movement - I've also assumed baby has just moved into a more vertical position. I am getting either rib kicks or pops / flutters v, v low down!

GemmaJen · 13/05/2019 06:57

Morning all. I've conceeded defeat, my normal swimsuit just isn't big enough anymore. 🙈 Has anyone bought a decent maternity swimming costume, there seems to be so little choice of styles and some are so expensive?

Stroan · 13/05/2019 07:07

@gemmajen my Asda maternity swimsuit from last pregnancy is still going strong and I used it a lot. Not expensive at all

TwittleBee · 13/05/2019 08:22

I second ASDA's swimsuits. Still using mine too

Moraxella · 13/05/2019 08:38

@gemmajen ASOS -£16

GemmaJen · 13/05/2019 09:05

Thank you for the suggestions, think I can see one I like on the asda website. Was really struggling to find anything that wasn't halterneck or polkadot - two things that don't suit me at all.

Lavellan · 13/05/2019 10:56

I dint know how people can stand halternecks I find them so uncomfortable. I have a very boring slazenger one piece to pick up right now. I wanted something I could do laps in.

Stroan · 13/05/2019 12:12

If anyone is considering a Close Caboo carrier, TK Maxx are selling them for 29.99.

TwittleBee · 13/05/2019 15:49

and they're online atTK Maxx, not just in store!

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 13/05/2019 16:47

Saw this image on Instagram earlier and I just find it fascinating (and reassuring, actually). It’s utterly amazing what our bodies do as women.

I was speaking to my friend at the weekend who had her second a few months ago (50 minute labour, delivered the baby by herself at home as they live in the sticks - both absolutely fine but a little quicker than expected!) and she was saying that if you’ve had a baby before your cervix is already 1cm for most of your pregnancy and she was 3cm for the last two weeks before she gave birth 😱 all v normal apparently!

September babies thread #6 - half way!
BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 13/05/2019 16:47

Should have added that image shows cm dilated and a newborn’s head!

kyles101 · 13/05/2019 16:52

Bridget that actually is strangely reassuring. Isn't it incredible what the body can do. I don't really know what I thought 10cm dilated would look like but in my head it was smaller than that... which actually wouldn't make any sense considering the size of babies heads 🤷‍♀️

TwittleBee · 13/05/2019 17:05

Bridget yup that is what the Dr said to me when I went into triage and why they arent tooooo worried about my cervix already being close to 2cm. I just got to keep tabs on any fluid leakage and anymore contraction like pains.

Super excited actually about birth lately, I think my outlook has changed now I am seriously considering a HB and like my new MW

Megan2018 · 13/05/2019 17:49

Interesting @BridgetJonesDaiquiri

No-one in my family in recent years has got beyond about 3cm. Our genes clearly didn't get the memo. I am mildly curious to know whether I will fare any differently!

10cms looks much bigger on there than it sounds!

Whisky2014 · 13/05/2019 18:48

happydays00 I feel your pain. I barely slept. Was too hot and having bad dreams. Was sooo tired today but I've survived.

I haven't felt much the last 2 days and was starting to worry but no, little baby has been kicking away like anything today. Phew.

I worked out I have 12 weeks to work until I come off at 2nd Aug (I'm using 5 days annual leave then start maternity pay from 12th Aug. Figured 2 weeks before due date was good to stop). And actually I'm off in 2 weeks for 2 weeks so really only have 10 weeks work to do. That. Is. Scary!

Omg

BBell2 · 13/05/2019 20:13

@stroan I was looking at close caboo so that's really reasonable to give one a go! A new sling is one of the only things I'm planning for this baby (old style babyborjn last time and I know they are not great) Might get a tkmax one to get us through to the point he/she is bigger and I can look at something front and back suitable in the sling library (it was one of the close caboo I was eyeing up on her site!)
