I think we can set up a post-natal thread for afterwards - I'm sure I've seen them for other groups ... but if you want to stay in touch with your email / text buddy especially, it may be a good idea if you let me know where you are in the country too, so that I can try to match up people who live near(ish) each other!

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/08/2007 21:58

EJT,

I am in grand old London lololol

j20baby · 07/08/2007 22:20

Hi all

les-them poems where lovely, your so talented

yep, there is post-natal threads, prob start one whenever everyone's had lo's or mid Oct if we need a new thread?

kezza-thats exactly what they did with me when i thought i was leaking water, torch and everything.

lisa-good luck with your scan tommorrow.

can't remember who mentioned it(rek?) i've been getting BH for weeks now, sometimes they can really take your breath away, mine are mainly when i lay down or sit in the car.

hi to everyone else.

well, i am shattered, washed nets and windowss this morning, then went for a walk round the shops with my friend for a few hours, which was a novelty with no DC's and not having to be back for the school pick up, managed to get one of them nappy wrapper things, similar to this one for £4 from Boots, talk about bargain, even though i wasn't actually planning on getting one, and a packet of maternity knickers for 50p
didn't get home till quite late and then had my brother and my friend here to do my laminate, they moaned a bit, but got the majority done, they decided they would finish at 9, so i sneakily but the clock back a little bit so they did more hopefully they will be coming back tomorrow night to do the rest.

i've got a mw appointment tomorrow so will let you all know how it goes.

sleep well everyone

I think i have had one of those days that I shoud have stayed in bed for

Woke this morning to power cut, sorted by 9am
Rang a few companies to sort out bills, all ok. Made a boiled egg for lunch, but forgot to turn gas off and only found out 4 hours later when went inot kitchin to find a very black smokey pan
Neighbours dog got inot back garden again.
And discovered we have no hot water its looks like my boiler has broken and its not insuranced as its over 15 years old. If it is completely packed up the whole system needs replacing because its a back bopiler behide the fire and they dont do them like that anymore Oh my god, think i want to start day again.

HI all,

My app with consultant was FAB!
She hasn't changed the dates as she say lo is a big baby (had '9lb er' 1st time so she wasn't surprised...) now have growth scans at 32, 36 & 38 weeks to see he's not enormous hunk of a baby

When she said big baby, I immediately burst into tears and started wittering on about not managing the birth last time pnd etc etc and she actually had my last notes from ds1's birth and went through some points with me. She said that from a medical point of view his birth went very well but she didn't want to take away my perceptions of it but felt having more info would help. She said that I should have had my labour talked through with me afterwards (never heard that before -anyone else?) I think this would have helped put 'closure' on it though I know it wouldn't have prevented pnd. I asked about pnd related to birth ( I've always thought it started then)she said if you're going to get it, you're going to get it even if you've had the most amazing birth. They're going to give me a pessary to regulate my hormones straight after birth for 3 days as this avoids the 'dip' on day 3.

Feeling sooooooooo much more positive about the whole thing.

Am seeing her on the 36 week scan to talk through 'options' if he's still a porker but she said to make an app myself if I felt I needed to discuss anything

I will now stop 'going on' about dates -sorry if I've been a little annoying over it all

Lisa- sorry to hear about your crap day, especially your central heating. Good luck for your scan today.

J20 -Good news on the laminate floor nice to hear you got help finally...

Well, ds off to nursery today (Hurrah!) so I'm going to try to sort the house out as it's still very messy.
Have a good day all

FloriaTosca · 08/08/2007 09:01

OH Muppet that is wonderful news!!!and
what a LOVELY consultant ..it must be such a relief to have someone finally understand your fears and offer support and help...I'm really chuffed for you .

Alice I'm glad you arent feeling so sick and dearly hope that you are being paranoid about growth and that you're mw can tell you so !
From my point of view, if you're not the size of a heiffer yet you are lucky;...my cousins two kids birthdays are a week apart so I've seen them twice in the last fortnight and the second time everyone gasped and said how much I'd expanded in a week, my brother saw me again 4 days later and said "I dont know about a week, a half week is noticable!"...and my darling DH, normally reasonably tactful, took a look at me last night and said with a look of horror on his face "I hope that goes at least halfway back to normal afterwards..or we're going to have to fork out for a tummy tuck!" Thanks!!!! Seriously though I do hope everything is ok with you...and I think when I have my next check up on monday they are going to insist on a gestational diabetes check because I'm sure I'm gaining far too much.

Lisa; sorry you had such a bad day and hope the boiler can be fixed....trying to look on the plus side; if it really is broken, at least it did it in the warm weather and you can get your new system in before LO arrives. We had our 25 yr old system replaced 2 weeks ago and we're so glad we did...the old one hadnt been maintained properly (we only moved here 7 months ago) and was weak and inefficient and turned out to have a dangerous flue..the new one is fantastic, pumps out gallons of hot water instantly, heats the house within minutes, uses half the gas and was well worth 3 days of disruption and every penny we spent on it for the peace of mind that we now have a safe and reliable system while LO is small. Hope things go better for you today.

Inzi; hope your grandad got his op yesterday and that the news is positive. Hope that Murphy is still doing well on the medication and I hope that you got a better nights sleep and are bearing up under the stress of it all.

Thanks for the name suggestions. Alice, I'm afraid I have bad memories of being forced to read Little Nell and it would be bound to have the "y" or "ie" added to it...though I doubt anyone would if we used it a second name..so thanks for the suggestion, it is on the list. LES; Elinni is pretty when pronounced the way your Mum says it, and I really quite like it but DH hates it and says no one would pronounce it correctly... and we are northerners, so it could sound awful with a strong Lancastrian accent. My Gran was called Ethel..her Mum pronounced it Etheel which is lovely and genteel (and rhymes too!)but no one else ever says it that way and so she went by her nick name "Heddy" (a derivative of her married surname) almost all her life (though personaly think that was even worse!). But thanks for the suggestions..they are on the list.

Well its another beautiful day. I had better take this dog for his constitutional while the going is good. I'll pop back in later. Have a good day eveyone.

ChocolateHobnob · 08/08/2007 09:14

Hi all

Lovely to catch up with all your news.

Muppet, that consultant sounds fab! really reassuring.

Lisa - poor you - that sort of thing is stressful enough without being pregnant on top! Fingers crossed it's all fine.

Alicet, I have worried massively about size of bump. Specially as people kept saying to me, when 25 weeks pregnant, even, 'you don't look pregnant at all' 'have you been checked out?' 'are you sure everything is okay?' I seem to have grown enormously in last couple of weeks (am 28 weeks now) and am now paranoid midwife today is going to tell me I'm too big, having felt too small. This sort of thing is just a minefield of worrying, isn't it?

J20, good luck with midwife apptment - you seem to have so much energy.

Inzi - good good luck with your grandfather. My grandmother (91) had a second fall last weekend and has an infected wound, being treated with antibiotics and penicillin that is making her throw up. It's such a worry.. but she is such a trooper... and I bet your grandfather is too.

I'm on holiday, but at home, this week. Been wandering round baby shops dreaming (!). Have you all bought everything yet? I've bought nothing, but I'm making lists!

muppetgirl · 08/08/2007 09:46

Hi chocolate- I have bought babygrows/vests/socks/bibs and have made hats/scarves/blankets. Don;t have any baby clothes from ds1 as I sold them all, binned them (pnd) so have really enjoyed buying new for the new baby. I have also bought bottles/dummies though want to try to bf again but putting no pressure on myself.

I still have the cot and bedclothes but are going to go to town on painting his room and decorating it as we didn't with Ollie.

Re the size of bumps I've noticed they can never be right according to other people. My friend was always being told she was too small yet she had a 7lb 14oz boy, I'm always being asked how many weeks left to go when I reply 3 months they look horrified. I just wish people could stick to the 'you're blooming!' line rather than comment on the size you are.

Dh has said 2 divorcable things 'Your arse is massive!' and 'I think you need to put a bit of make up on' when I looked a little pale... He's normally so lovely. My friends nearly killed him!!

ChocolateHobnob · 08/08/2007 10:07

Muppetgirl, that IS almost a divorceable offence!

We're not going to paint the nursery but I'm going to theme it teddy bear style. Don't know if we're having a boy or a girl - and that's another thing. People keep staring at my bump and saying 'it's a xxxx' very knowingly. More people say 'it's a girl', which I gather means 'you may have a smallish bump but it's low and you seem to have put weight on everywhere'. Is that right?!
I've noticed my hips have grown exponentially.

Think might start buying... I do have little babygros and so on handed down from my friend who's little boy is 7 weeks (she didnt know sex either so they're all nicely neutral).

Do you all know the sex?

FloriaTosca · 08/08/2007 10:10

Hi CHN
I have been given a pram (bebecar adventure) a steriliser and a cot and I've been bought an Amby Nature Nest (instead of a crib) but apart from a fleece blanket as a gift from a pupil..I've got nothing!
We thought we had bought a second pram off e-bay (silvercross classic chassis sleepover; my Mum saw it in John Lewis and wanted it)but the seller wasnt happy with the price (hardly our fault if she hadnt set a reserve and no one else bid on it)and tried to back out of the deal (DH wasn't having that)then said she had underestimated the stated price of postage and wanted us to drive 250 miles to Chippenham to collect it(again not our problem though we did offer an extra £10 towards the post))and 2 weeks on hasn't apparently sent it yet...
I'm actually going to be buying reusable nappies this week (the councils "save the environment" voucher came yesterday)and I've been making lists and looking at everything else...but I only think I'll be buying basics
We think we'll probably buy the car seat & base this weekend (maxi cosi cabrio fix)... and I'll get in a basic layette.
If this LO is a boy I know I won't have to buy many clothes as 2 close friends had baby boys in February and another had one in July and I've already been warned that I'm getting all their outfits!..If its a girl I'm going to be having a BIG shopping spree in October or she'll be setting a trend by wearing a lot of blue ths season!. My sil who as a 3 yr old has a ton of playmats, gyms, bouncers, swings etc in her mils loft so I dont really think I'll need that much....in fact I think that the less I buy the better because we are likely to be inundated with everyone elses' cast offs!
The one thing I think I ought to do soon though is get the bits and bobs for the hospital bags bought and packed... just incase something happens sooner than we expect it to.

FloriaTosca · 08/08/2007 10:21

OOh Muppet! Those comments are defiantely divorcable offences...your Dh should join mine in the dog house ...Mine commented on my spreading behind weeks ago but now thinks I'm going to need a tummy tuck! Charming!

muppetgirl · 08/08/2007 10:25

CHN/Floria

I am having another boy so will have a matching pair and can't wait to see if they are similar/different!!

I have an outlet shopping centre here so I have bought babygrows from Gap which I wouldn;t normally do (to much of a stinge...)

Not going to get a sterilizer this time (but I do understand that's a really personal choice) I do have ds1's playmat but although the mat itself is clean the 2 arches are really maky as they can;t go through the wash so will keep the mat as a spare but will probably buy a new one. Don;t have car seat yet and also need to buy a new matress for the cot. I had a big dilema about this as ds1's matress was immaculate as I had a matress protector on it but they do say to buy a new one. I was annoyed as there was nothing worng with it!!
I did finally get dh to get rid of it as then we would have to buy a new one...

We have a pram (the really old quinney from 3 years ago) that I think we'll start off with but the frame doesn't collapse very easliy and in the winter you don;t want to be hanging around. Also ds grew out of the pram as he was so long after 9 weeks.

Will be buying a crib for him not a moses basket as again ds1 grew out of that in 9 weeks...

muppetgirl · 08/08/2007 10:26

...sorry, SHOCKING spelling !

lisad123 · 08/08/2007 10:38

Morning all

Well dh has pluged in the emursion (sp??) heater so atleast we have hot water for now, although it cost a lot to run
Floria do you mind if i ask how much the heating system cost you? I need to know how much money im going to have to scrap together very quickly. I said to dh it would need doing before LO arrives as he said, well atleast we would be okay till winter

Mupper Im soo glad your consultant went so well and your feeling better about it. My consultant came and spoke to me about my birth shortly after and before I left they gave me my notes to read. I always think debriefing after a bad day/experience is good. We always do this at work (social services) and it really helps just t talk though and put things right in your mind with someone there to help

I have most of my stuff ready this time as it was left to Darren last time due to spending last 7 weeks in hospital, and i missed loads. I havent got a sterliser either, and again have not brought bottles. I didnt buy any with dd until i8 needed them and am hoping to BF again so not to paniced.

Thanks for all the well wishes for today, feeling ok about it, my sister has her scan and appointment right after mine so shes coming with me Im hoping they book my section date then I can start planning (unless this LO has other idea's of early like Tanisha). Hope your all well, sorry if i missed anyone.

Lisa

TheLadyEvenstar · 08/08/2007 11:28

Hiya All,

So come on how would you rate the size of your bumops at this stage?

If i sit and compare myself from 10 yr ago when I was pg with my ds I am much much smaller. This far into pg with ds I had gone from a size 8 in clothes to a size 20, I eventually stopped at a 22/24 lol I was massive!!! But 3 weeks after giving birth I was down to a size 12 and stayed between a 12-14 since. I am now 30 wks +2 and have gone up to a size 16...all i have done is put on baby belly and nothing else. So hopefully when i have had LO it won't take me long to get back into shape and get me hipsters on lol.

So how do you all compare to previous bumps u have had????

muppetgirl · 08/08/2007 11:33

I only have the bump as no extra weight anywhere else -just like the 1st time.

I am much lower than with ds1 and that's more uncomfortable as 'TMI alert' i feel like sometimes a foot is going to pop out my fanjo...

dal21 · 08/08/2007 11:46

LadyEvenStar - this is going to sound like a stoopid question, but how to you know what size you have gone up too? I bought size 10 maternity clothes at 15 weeks that still fit - but obviously with stretch in them, they arent a true size 10 any longer. I wooldnt have a clue what dress size i would be in non mat clothes. Am now 32+5...

FloriaTosca · 08/08/2007 11:47

Lisa; We got a new Worcester Bosch condensing combi-boiler (not the cheapest make and for the extra £200 we went up 2 specs from the model suggested incase we put in an extra bathroom one day..and we chose the make because my Dad was a plumber and had been reading up on new systems for his house and was most impressed with these). It was put in with a special magnetic trap to keep the system clean,(as we were keeping old radiators) a new digital thermostat/ regulator unit and new thermostatic radiator valves on all 12 radiators. The system was chemically flushed and they had to put in new 22mm gas pipe (the old 15mm is now illegal)they also removed the old boiler, hot (storage/immersion) and cold water tanks and had to replumb the main bathroom radiator (because it had been connected to the hot water system rather than the heating system so the towels would get dried in there in summer)...and it cost us £1,500 for the boiler and parts and £1,000 labour (I think he would have quoted more if he had realised the amount of new pipework that ended up being necessary)...it was a friend of a friend (well, husband of oneof DHs work collegues) who did it over the weekend, but he is corgi registered so we won't have any insurance issues.
British Gas had quoted £4000 just for a boiler (not a worcester bosch)without all the extras, and the worcester bosch dealer quoted £3,500 for a smaller model so we got a very good deal and it really is worth every penny....the power of the hot water in the shower now is phenominal (we have a bungalow so the old gravity fed system had no substantial gravity to feed it!). Hope this gives you some idea of the range of prices that they can quote you and what can be involved...and doesnt horrify you too much. We were prepared for outlay like this when we bought the place....though I must admit our renovation contingency fund has taken a bashing of late

lisad123 · 08/08/2007 12:06

Thanks Floria, I thought it might be about £4k as we would need new rads and our current boiler has 5 rads and I want to add two more. Its playing silly buggers right now, and seems to be staying on, but not sure. Its an old system so needs replacing. There a family in my church that do this sort of work so hopefully i can get them to do it.
ooo have just had a call from work, one of the girls are popping in tomorrow to see me. Wish it was one of my friends but its the senior, and she lives close by. She's nice enough but we arent very friendly. She properly trying to impress the boss Oh what fun hehehe. Im off to get some lunch then off to appointment. Will update later.
Thanks again Floria
Lisa

muppetgirl · 08/08/2007 12:12

Dal, I'm the same as have bought maternity clothes.
Was a size 8-10 around hips but 12 around boobs so have kept these sizes for maternity clothes.

Are now 27 + 2 and have just measured my bump at 41 1/2 inches.

dal21 · 08/08/2007 12:17
dal21 · 08/08/2007 12:21

am 36 inches across largest part of bump!

TheLadyEvenstar · 08/08/2007 12:31

Dal,
I refuse to buy many maternity clothes, DP did buy me a pair of jeans and 3/4 legnths which i wore a few times and that was it. As for dresses I bought some yesterday in peacocks which are a size 14. They are maternity dresses they are ruched at the top and flowing. Had a sticker on wear me 2 ways as a dress or a skirt. I love them!!!!

Up until a few weeks ago my normla jeans (size 14) still fitted me and now I have a very old pair of jeans that used to fall off without a belt which are a 16 I can still wear without a belt.

Other than that I wear leggings and tops...something i haven't done since the early 90's lmao.

Just measured bump and it is......46" at biggest part. only other place i gained anything is boobs which are now a 42d instead of a 40d...think i'll keep them lmao
