mrsfish- bless you, well at least you had a little trip, your going to have been away on hol twice in one week! sorry that you are a feeling under the weather, ejt too, who told me to try steam inhalation? maybe that could help you both?

alice-its not my friend, its her cousin, and my friend has decided she probably wont go out of respect to me, but i told her not to be silly, although i do appreciate the sentiment.

kiansmum-i do feel for you stuck in traffic, my lo always kicks off when i'm driving, god knows what other drivers think when i'm wriggling around at traffic lights trying to get comfortable!

well, i went to my 'friends'(the one thats taking the inconvenient holiday on my due date ) dads birthday BBQ last night, it was really nice, even though my said friend, decided he was very tired so went to sleep in the living room while his family all kept me entertained, but they're really nice, think i might adopt them

hi to everyone else, hope you've had nice weekends, btw is anyone going to the Yorkshire meet up tommorrow at Leeds?

LMAO Mrs Fish!!! That is proper comedy. Your DH is very understanding indeed! Think mine may not have been very amused by that. But on the bright side, you will have knocked the horrible head cold on its head and be fighting fit for next week. (Is it bad that I am still laughing??)

Hope everyone else had fab weekends.

I have a question for you all (have also posted on pregnancy board) - have you all thought about whether or not you are giving your bubs vit k via injection or drops after they are born? I was up for administering drops but the hypnobirthing therapist today made me have a think whether it was really necessary if the baby was delivered via a fairly straightforward natural delivery.
Views welcome!

j20baby · 29/07/2007 20:10

dal-i will be having them, well baby will, can't do any harm, can it?

OP posts:
MrsFish · 29/07/2007 20:12

thats what I thought, but to be honest I didn't really research it What are the negatives of having it?

dal21 · 29/07/2007 20:15

there is research that links vit k to higher incidents of childhood lukemia. I havent read that much in depth about it. Interesting posts back on the pregnancy thread...so far no posters had their LO's have it....this is obviously only when the bub has had a normal no intervention Vag delivery....it changes if ventouse/ forceps are used....

MrsFish · 29/07/2007 20:17

Ah... I had forceps delivery and an episiotomy which is probably why they asked me about it. I can't remember the mw mentioning it beforehand.

j20baby · 29/07/2007 20:20

i had normal delivery, they give it LO's when they are breast fed, formula has it in already

OP posts:
dal21 · 29/07/2007 20:20

I think that if I have a straightforward vag del with no intervention req, I will not have the injection or drops. I need to put it as part of my birth plan so am thinking about this and other stuff post delivery like the fake oxytocin injection to speed up placenta delivery (again would rather not have).

j20baby · 29/07/2007 20:24

have posted you a link Dal, if you bottle feed it is inthe milk anyway, the deficiency occurs mainly in bf babies. here

OP posts:
alicet · 30/07/2007 04:08

dal - my ds had vit k drops last time. Again he was bf so needed it really but my understanding was that the risk of childhood leukaemia was tenuous at best. Will read up on it though as hadn't last time...

Well I've been awake for an hour now and ca't get back to sleep. Had this last time and it was sh*te - at least then I was off work and didn't have a toddler to look after! So back to bed now to try and sleep - will be done in otherwise.... Chat later!

alicet · 30/07/2007 07:59

Up early again! Ds up at 6.30, dh up at 5.30 so not the best night's sleep ever.... Hope to be about later...

dal21 · 30/07/2007 08:06

Cor blimey alicet - you early bird you! I did some reading on the vit k stuff last night, didnt realise that they have been giving it to babies for nearly 30 years! Think a little more research may be required!

muppetgirl · 30/07/2007 08:41

HI all!

Mrs Fish - Ithink that's really funny! I'm so glad it's not just me getting scan dates wrong and dh missing them because I got the worng dates!! You have a very understanding dh and a lovely ds to not make the journey hell.

Ds had vit K as we were ventouse, didn't do any research about it as everything happened so quickly at the time.

Think I will with lo ....?

WE had a good weekend, went swimming with ds on sat which was busy and ds couldn't understand why all the yoys they put out were being used! On Sun we took ds to softplay in the morning but decided not to take ds swimming as he was coughing a bit so dh took him shopping and then out for a bike ride with the dogs as it was not raining!! I slept through all the bike ride and shopping as was soooooo knackered. Ordered some storage from the great little trading company as behind our sofa looks like toy amegeden and was v embarrassed when friend went ot lift something out for me!

Dh took the wardrobe apart in the lo's room so we just need to get rid of the kitchen table and then I can start sorting out and painting....

Today we're off to the gym as ds is going into the creche whilst I swim and sit on the hot bed to ease my back

MrsFish · 30/07/2007 08:42

Morning

Well DH has now come down with this cold too, so its a good job we mucked our holiday up, at least now we can both be well for next week. Of course DH feels far worse than I do... he may not be able to do a full day at work he says... needs to go back to bed... BUT WHAT ABOUT ME, I'LL STILL HAVE TO LOOK AFTER YOUR SON

Men!!

muppetgirl · 30/07/2007 08:48

oh Mrs Fish! Aren't men great!!!

Sounds like your dh has a serious case of 'man flu'

I always threaten that if it's that bad I need to book a drs app. That shuts mine up

alicet · 30/07/2007 08:52

dal - yes I think I'm going to do some research too. Last time I thought that if it was recommended that was enough for me. Which to be honest it probably is but will make sure I know the score!

Muppet you sound like you have been very busy! Jealous of your chill out morning today though! We're off to sing and sign - haven't been for ages but ds used to love it so should be fun!

MrsFish know what you mean about men and illness!! Never cross their mind that with a toddler you can't have a day off would it! Hope you both feel better soon and certainly in time for your holiday

TheLadyEvenstar · 30/07/2007 09:26

Hi peeps,
I am still alive lol. Have had a mad mad week or so. Have been in battle with my landlord for almost 3 years with regard to repairs he won't do.....leaking toilet, damp walls, upvc window frames coming away from walls, bath dropping an inch or 2 when you get in where the sealent has rotted, doors falling off hinges...to name but a few. Anyways after yet another row with him we have been served an eviction notice....thats ok we were going to move before lo is born anyway. So now we have found our ideal home which we both love, it is cheaper than where we are and also ground floor with garden and yard YIPPEEEEE.

Then yesterday was DS 9th birthday and aside from everyone we invited bowling letting him down he waited all day for a call from the sperm donor which never came so he was upset....he has left him messages on Netlog asking him to call but as of yet nothing. DS asked again why DP can't adopt him....so I now looking into it. He has asked at least 20 times in last 3 weeks. my mum is in agreeance so is whole family, they want, like me for ds to feel secure.

Other than that I am great, LO is laying very awkwardly he is head down but fidgetting something rotten n leaving me in pain....

Hope everyone else is doing well n all bumps are lovely as usual xxxx

j20baby · 30/07/2007 09:30

blimey-poor you alice, i bet you feel like a Zombie, are you at work? can you get a bit of a cat nap today?

mrsfish-just when i founf out i was pg, the sperm donor was very ill, couldn't move, bend his neck..etc, the GP sent him to hospital with suspected meningitis, guess what?....the male doc diagnosed him with a bad case of 'man flu', his words not mine! so being the dutiful gf, i nursed him better, then i came down with it, the very time that he choose to leave me! t**r!

regarding the Vit K, i've read no research what proves any link to the leukemia and will be giving lo the drops, its 3 drops where we are, as with me having that strep B, i am already concerned that lo will have problems when born, so don't want anything else to worry about, but saying that lo will also be having vaccination jabs when the time comes, and a lot of people decide not to do that, so i supppose it is an individuals choice. i don't feel strongly about them either way, but i'm sure if you posted a thread, there will be many different opinions(like there is on the vit K)

well, have to make a picnic for todays Yorkshire meet up, anyone else from here going?

have a nice day whatever you all do

OP posts:
j20baby · 30/07/2007 09:33

thelady poor DS, fu*ng sperm donor t**t! at least he has your lovely dp and when he is older he will realise the saying of 'anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a daddy' is so true, sending him belated birthday wishes.

what a nightmare having to find a new house, try not to get too stressed about it, glad your ok otherwise

OP posts:
alicet · 30/07/2007 11:20

Thelady - sorry to hear you've been having such a sh*te time but good to hear you've found a better house. Really sorry for your ds and his dad's behavious though - I guess yu wouldn't care if it didn't upset him but I think I would find that very difficult.

J20 will try and sleep when ds does ta! Not at work today thank god!

Well we've been to sing and sign this am. last time we went it was fab and ds loved it. There were about 6 children of the same age and it was great. Today was bedlam with at least 30 children if not 40 and their parents. All different ages from crawling till 4-5 years. Didn't recognise any of the songs and Ds didn't seem to get anythig out of it and neither did I. They are making a mint though at £5 a child! To give the lady credit she did try hard but there were just too many children. Won't be going back!!!

alicet · 30/07/2007 11:20

J20 - enjoy your picnic!

designerbaby · 30/07/2007 11:56

Hi all [waves frantically]

Just back from a week in sunny Suffolk (it was, actually, sunny...) staying at Pontins with 1700 Christian (seriously).

A lot more fun that it sounds (honest...) and actually have a teeny bit of a tan... .

Food was bloody awful though. Still, it's character building. Or something.

So having been without internet access for a week I don't stand a chance on catching up with everything. Have just had a brief skim, but if I've missed anyting important (like someone having a baby) you'll all fill me in, won't you?

Floria - such amazing news about the amnio - can't imagine the prospect of doing anything about a bad result at this stage, so it's such good news that your DH finally understood that. Hope you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy now... BIG HUG!

And to whoever it was who got the dates of their holiday wrong I can sympathise - I turned up at the hospital at 8.30 this morning for my 26 wk appointment, only to find out it was tomorrow...

Lovely lovely people saw me anyway, though, so I didn't have to go back... how nice is that?

Hope you're all doing well - only a week at work before we head off to Cornwall for another week's holiday... ahh... bliss! (And NOT Pontins this time... phew...)

Lots of love, and hugs all round...

DB
xx

nellieloula · 30/07/2007 12:01

morning everyone -

thelady, great news about the house but not so good about your DS's birthday.

re. the vit k, DS had the jab at birth and I'll do the same this time round. To be honest, none of the reading I did left me concerned about the alleged leukaemia link and I thought it far worse if there was a blood problem to leave it when there was something which would help. DS was in special care every few hours for antibiotics (I'm GBS+) so I didn't really think that one more thing to be on the safe side would make much difference. Also, where we are they advise you to have it.

Muppet - hope you're coping with what sounds like one of the worst cases of flu known! I had the same thing with my DH last weekend.
We clearly have no idea what they go through

Mrs Fish - hope you're feeling better and thank you for your fantastic story which was one of the few things that made me laugh yesterday. What a tonic - not so much for you though I suppose!

hope everyone else is ok - we had good weekend until Sun pm when i lost the plot in another pregnancy/insecurity panic moment. Suddenly occured to me that with an elective I'll really struggle at bath and bed time to get DS in and out of the bath and cot on my own. It's going to be a hard 6 weeks which is quite scary. But that is just the way it is. All ok now though - LO is moving a lot today which is reassuring but also exhausting! Have bad back ache but really can't complain about that here when I know there are others struggling with much worse.

have a great afternoon everyone.

MrsFish · 30/07/2007 12:55

Designerbaby - It was me that got my holiday dates wrong We are actually down to Cornwall this coming Saturday, staying in Porth which is right next door to Newquay

Hope you have a great time down there

lisad123 · 30/07/2007 13:05

Oh dear me think i have got my midwife in trouble

I rang to speak to my consultants team as i have spoken to my sister who has been told she has protein S Deficity (i cant spell) which is genetic, which can cause pre term labour, small growing babies, placentral failure and high BP. Well she has had all of her children prem and low weights. I had placental failure and PE last time. Wanted to talk to consultant about possible testing but his away but spoke to sister is charge. She said to talk to team next week but asked if there was any other signs of problems and i explained i was being scanned every 4 weeks but had measured 3 weeks behind since my last scan (last week at mw appointment). Sister is charge then said "right i want the name of your midwife and you need to see team on weds) oh shoot, feel bad for mw now. She knows my hisotry and knows LO heart rate is quick at 170-180 bpm. Im feeling fairly calm as i can still feel LO moving but feel bad for MW . Damn another afternoon in waiting room

I hope that made sense. Im doing ok, im at my mums, and have just spent weekend at our caravan, hmmm relaxing on decking

Hope your all well.
Lisa
