Dal21 - same here, I only bake if I know someone else will eat the finished product. Which is why its great I can do it for the summer fayre, by the end of the day I'll be sick of baking

Seem to be struggling at the moment though, everytime I stand up to do stuff (ie filling cases with mixture) I start feeling really dizzy/faint, so I have just come for a lie down for a bit

Muppetgirl - sorry I can't help with your dates, it is very confusing for me too

FloriaTosca · 20/07/2007 10:47

Muppet; I'm confused too.. last Mondays scan put my LO at 29 wks 5 days instead of 28 wks 3 days...9 days ahead if itself (nowhere near as far off as 2 weeks of course) but no one suggested moving my edd...which you would have thought they might
If they think your baby is big they will probably book more scans and keep a closer eye on you (they did on my friend who had her DS on Tuesday...but they got his size wrong by miles so I dont think you can really rely on them too much either!) Personally, I'd go from your LMP...that cant be that far out can it? but JMO. I'm sure someone who really knows about all this will come along and clear up the confusion soon.

Tarnation! My mouth is watering at all the talk of baking and roasting...I'm going to have to bestirr myself and go to Tesco for eggs and flour etc. now!...mmm...I forsee scones, strawberry jam and clotted cream...mmmm...

j20baby · 20/07/2007 11:05

morning all, dd was up at 5.30 cos she's 'so excited' bloody pita!

muppet, i've no idea how to work it all out, hope you get some help on your other thread.

mrsfish-have you had your iron levels checked lately? if your going dizzy, may be low iron.

love to lisa and buffy, and everyone else of course.

did i mention i've got a couple of bruises on my tum where lo has booted me, is this normal?

anyway, off to finish packing and get sorted, have a nice relaxing weekend all

OP posts:
greedygreedyguzzler · 20/07/2007 11:09

muppet - do you have ANY idea when you ovulated or EXACTLY when you had sex and fell pg? how long are your cycles normally? i am afraid i was one of those people who had really erratic cycles so i used to take my temperature and pretty much know EXACTLY when my baby was concieved. do you have any idea? was your BFP a really strong dark line or not?

Mumpbump · 20/07/2007 11:31

Buffy - hope the lo hangs on in there for a bit longer and that everything goes okay.

Lisa - likewise, I hope that you get over whatever illness you have at the moment...

Muppet - why don't you just say to your m/w that you're concerned that the lo is big for dates? There is quite a bit of inaccuracy in these measurements so I wouldn't necessarily worry about it, but I think you would be quite reasonable to raise a concern that the EDD keeps moving!

Hello to everyone else! Quite tired today as ds was up in the night. I couldn't find any clean pj's for him so put him in a sleepsuit and I think he was overheating because it was so muggy. Dh was NOT amused. He doesn't seem to be coping very well with broken nights sleep at the moment so having a newborn in the house is going to be interesting!!

MrsFish · 20/07/2007 12:03

J20 - I had bloods taken last week at the docs, but haven't heard anything about results. I think it is because our kitchen is so warm though as we have an aga, I was ok after a little lie down and I have been ok the past hour or so. Now have16 cupcakes to be decorated and 2 dozen gingerbread men Also choc cake is about to go in oven, and I have a lemon drizzle cake ready to add more lemon to

Got those tops in the post this morning thanks... I actually like the dress even though you said it was a bit mumsy I'll tart it up with some big chunky jewellery. Will try them all on later.

Have a good weekend. I was hoping my parcel would get to you this morning, I posted it at 1pm yesterday so it should have seeing as it was first class

j20baby · 20/07/2007 12:11

mrsfish-i just got the clothes and i have to say i feel guilty, yours where so much better than the ones i sent you, they're all lovely, the orange one and the 2 next long sleeved ones fit lovely, the others are a little big yet, but hopefully will fit in the next few weeks, apart from the blue one which is a bit tight round my boobs

i got some another bundle of maternity clothes yesterday, i've just washed them, so i'll sort through them next week and see if you want any of them to ease my concience(sp)

right def off now, catch up with you all next week

j20baby · 20/07/2007 12:13

oops, p.s. mrsfish, chase your bloods up-i had to the other day and get referred to the specialist again as it is so low, but if i'd left it they wouldn't have contacted me for ages.

muppetgirl · 20/07/2007 13:13

Hi all,
Just had coffee with friends and one of them is a midwife. -Hospital midwife but they all do the same training.

She said pretty much what you have said, express concern to midewife and insist on a later (35-36 weeks) scan or ask for a consultants app.
She also said they are not able to give accurate weight preditions so she doesn't understand why they do!! And that size of the baby is accurate as based on exact measurements.

Thanks for listening, I know I keep going on about it.....

FloriaTosca · 20/07/2007 14:33

I was having a Mum and daughter chat on the phone this morning and she mentioned her anaemia when pregnant with me and I thought I'd pass on the info to those of you who are excessivley tired/dizzy etc...of course it was a long time ago but her red cell count was so low that after a massive course of iron pills did nothing to raise it they resorted injecting her with massive doses of the stuff!..and still the blood count was low!..a more detailed analysis uncovered not a lack of iron but a lack of vitamins B6 and B12...a quick course of them and she was fine...(though I was born yellow; not from jaundice but from the amount of iron in her system)...just thought I'd mention it in case any of you are not responding to iron pills.

greedygreedyguzzler · 20/07/2007 14:52

oh dear! i started a name thread! wish i hadn't now! i am SO influenced by what people say and i wish i wasn't!!

dal21 · 20/07/2007 14:59

Muppet - that must have been a relief! some good advice for you.

Greedy - people have been asking me whether we have thought of names but I have bluntly said that I dont want to share them and that we will decide when the baby is born. I remember seeing a thread on MN where a poster was asking about a girls name she liked and someone responded that it reminded them of a hookers name!!

Ignore the feedback - look at your bub and go with the name you love. You will never please everyone! I am personally dying to know what Jordan wants to call her baby - apparently she loves it but everyone in her family says it is too OTT!

Apricott · 20/07/2007 15:10

Afternoon all

Buffy and Lisa - thinking of you both.

Muppet - the thing that gets me about this 'big for dates' notion is that it seems to be based on the premise that all babies will be within a certain (limited) range at a certain time in pregnancy. I may have missed something obvious here, but babies come out a whole range of different sizes when they're 'done' don't they, so aren't they likely to be a whole range of different sizes during pregnancy too? Plus, don't forget that these measurements seem to be so wrong so often they hardly seem worth taking any notice of. I've had three different edds given to me so far. I'm sticking with the one that tallies with my ovulation date. I guess I'm trying to say, try not to worry too much about it, but if you are worried, do talk to someone. Glad you got to talk with a midwife today anyway.

Greedy - the whole name thread thing is tempting I admit, but one to avoid I reckon. I'm reluctant even to tell RL friends what we're thinking for fear of their reactions. Name choice is a personal thing - it doesn't matter what MNetters say really does it? Except on this thread of course !

Anyone got any tips to stop me sitting with my legs crossed, except being sensible and strong-willed about it, which I don't seem to be capable of at the moment? It's like my right leg has a will of its own and crosses itself without me even noticing!

Also advice - should we or should we not get a dishwasher - would involve some changing round of the kitchen cabints and loss of a drawer unit. What do you reckon??

Can't believe it's three pm in mid-July and it's nearly dark already! Hope no-one flooded.

ejt1764 · 20/07/2007 15:16

Pebblemum ? thanks for letting us know about buffy ? please send her my love. I?m thinking about her!

Lisad ? thinking about you too!

FT ? take it easy in the deluge!

Alice ? I think you are marvellous too ? it made me so cross that someone would just believe everything she read on the net ? without using something like google scholar, or pubmed!
I?ve looked at articles for a blood disorder I had last year (which they think caused both of my MCs), and it?s really important to trawl through until you find the peer-reviewed, substantiated stuff!

Muppetgirl ? sometimes it?s just really lovely to have some cuddly time with our Los ? I spent some quality cuddling time with ds yesterday morning too, as dh was away, and ds and I really had a lovely chat.

Beware of scan dates being changed at the 20 week scan ? the ideal period of time to do a dating scan is 8 ? 11 weeks gestation (ie, 10 ? 12 weeks after lmp). After that, the discrepancies and inaccuracies grow ? the scans become more inaccurate, as the individual growth rates of babies come into play much more.
Are you sure of when you had your last period? Do you know when you ovulated?

Apricott - I'd definitely vote for a dishwasher - we got one when ds was about 9 months old, and it just makes life so much easier! - and we had to do a bit of rearranging of the kitchen to do it. I wouldn't be wothout mine now!

Hi to everybody else I haven't mentioned!

Well, news from me ?.

-went to see GP, to shove analgesia pathway up her nose ? only to find it wasn?t necessary ? in fact, she took my booklet (from the hospital) to have a good look at, and asked if she could take copies for the rest of the GPs in the practice ? So, I now have some cocodamol ? but they don?t seem to do it in suppository form, so she?s suggested I see the anaesthetist anyway, so that I can be given pain patches, or something similar.

  • went into school today for the last day ? and am now in agony ? it doesn?t help that my classroom is at the end of the longest corridor of any school in Wales! Have come home and taken some painkillers ? and will be off to bed in a bit.

Hope everybody is having a good Friday ? we?ll be getting ready to go on our holidays on Sunday, so I don?t know how much mn time I?ll have. We?re going on the Llangollen canal in a canal boat: I?ll be in charge of driving, whilst dh and ds will be in charge of bridges and locks ? we?ve saved up our Tesco clubcard vouchers for 2 years to pay for it, and I?m really looking forward to it ? may even treat myself to the odd pint of real ale!

Love to all ?.

FloriaTosca · 20/07/2007 15:24

Apricott; get the dishwasher!!!!!!Its worth 10 drawers and a bit of kitchen move around inconvenience! My great-aunt got one when they first came out and everyone say "why?".. she said that if there was a fire she'd save the dishwasher and the washing machine first...the family and the dog could all fend for themselves; they did nothing but create work for her, the machines were the only things that saved her work!

MrsFish · 20/07/2007 15:34

Apricott - another one here who thinks you should get the dishwasher, I wouldn't be without mine now

J20 - Glad you got them before you went away, I thought the blue would be a bit tight

Again have a good time.

Well I am now knackered, just finished cleaning the kitchen from the baking bomb site it became, my feet hurt and I could do with a sleep. Still have some more gingerbread men to do, but will do that later after a rest.

FloriaTosca · 20/07/2007 15:55

Mrs Fish; glad you are pacing yourself
I got all the ingredients in and then the plumbers arrived to take out the old boiler in the utility and managed to hijack the whole house!Oh well...hopefully I'll get my scones tomorrow

Apricott · 20/07/2007 16:26

I'm off home for the weekend - the ability to sneak off early with no-one noticing is one of the perks of this job!

ejt - have fun on your boat

Have good weekends all! We've got friends coming, plus we remembered this morming that it's our wedding anniversary on Sunday so we might do something nice to mark the occasion.

Adios amigas x

MrsFish · 20/07/2007 16:36

Anyone else got atrocious weather?

It is torrential here, with strong winds too, can't believe how different to yesterday it is.

alicet · 20/07/2007 17:02

Apricott - enjoy your wedding anniversary - hope you manage to do something nice. I too would get a dishwasher - we don't have one at the mo (boo!) but are planning to when we get our kitchen done as part of the work we are planning on our house. Can't wait!!!!

Muppet - ejt is talking a lot of sense about the earlier scans being the most accurate - I was just about to come on and tell you the same thing. So I would go with the date from your earliest scan unless anyone who is a midwife / obstatrician gives you a sensible reason why not to.

Am hopeless now without cut and past but this was a quick one before I go and get ds from nursery! Big waves to everyone else - will go through a bit better later when we get back....

dal21 · 20/07/2007 17:39

MrsF - torrential downpours middayish today in London - have moved further north now though.

Defo yes yes yes to the dishwasher. Real timesaver.

My glider chair has just arrived - so comfy, it's great!

muppetgirl · 20/07/2007 19:16

The rain has been torrential today and it took me 1hr 40 mins to get to ds's nursery which is 10 mins down the road...

Dh got a train to paddington but no trains are running 'wester' than reading so he asked me to pick him up from reading. Then he phoned to say loads of roads are closed in reading so I asked him to get a bus to the big savacentre which is on the m4 which would save me going into reading. I dropped of ollie to a neighbours as didn't want him to be upset by a possible marathon drive only to be told that the m4 was shut between Newbury/Reading due to a landslide!!! SO decided not to try.

Have phoned my dad to see if he can use one of the local roads as he is closer than I am. He's set off.

Currently can't contact dh so not sure what to do!
May see him tonight, may not!

alicet · 20/07/2007 19:24

OMG muppet hope your dh manages to get home or at least make contact!

Where do you live? Until very recently my parents lived near Reading!

alicet · 20/07/2007 19:25

No rain up here in Newcastle so maybe its not so grim up North! Or maybe its coming all weekend when I'm not working - yippee!!!

alicet · 20/07/2007 19:28

Just trying to catch up properly as only skim read earlier....

Ejt glad your gp sorted you out in the end! I'm a bit puzzled though - was your analgesia pathway specifically for in pregnancy? If so then that clarifies things but if not the 'analgesic ladder' is something we're all taught often so slightly surprised she needed a copy! hope you enjoy your holiday too....

MrsFish sounds like you have been very industious today! Hope your ds's nursery appreciates all your hard work!
