I didn't realise all that stuff about P massage. Maybe we'll give it a miss. After all, a girl must maintain some air of mystery.

Thanks for the advice on cot top changers. My mum and stepdad want to buy as a pressie and have suggested the same gorgeous changing unit they got for sister but out roon just isn't big enough. I'm sure I'll be able to think of something before too long.

SB- Glad you've manged to get your head together re your inlaws.

RG - Great news about Ds and his job. You can start charging him board and lodging now

Had rubbish sleep last night. I woke up at 4 having had a really vivid dream about breastfeeding kittens and was so distubed I couldn't go back to sleep.

Morning ladies,

I used a changing unit for DS but only because my sis gave her's to me that she'd already used for 2 kids. Now she has used it for her 3rd and I will have it back so it will have been through 5 babies!

I would never have bought one myself - they look nice but don't add much more practical value than a cot top changer and some shelves. The bath in it is useful for the first 2-3 months but then after that I was bathing DS in the bath using a little hammock thingy.

RG - bet DS's job is a load off your mind.

Littleoldme - I will e-mail you again.

Sorry to hear about all of you who have insomnia right now. Have to say I am the opposite at the moment - am out like a light as soon as head hits the pillow and most days I am having a daytime nap as well. Don't wake up feeling refreshed though - just like I've been drugged up.

Last night, for the second time, I dreamt that one of my close friends/family had died

Bit annoyed because last night got a call from NCT telling me the antenatal classes I booked AGES ago have been cancelled because the teacher withdrew. So she is trying to arrange another class for us. What a PITA. They would have started a week on tuesday but heaven knows when they'll be now. And if this baby arrives early then I might miss out altogether!

purplepants · 11/08/2007 11:51

Sorry girls - major grumble alert *

Is anyone else feeling nauseous again? I don't think it's the heat as I've not felt too hot but my bump seems to come out literally just beneath my boobs now and seems to be putting loads of pressure on my stomach/diaphragm (I'm sure I've not had this before) I feel 38 rather than 28 weeks and what with my loose pelvis it's really starting to make me miserable. Please someone tell me I'm not alone in this, i don't think I can stand another 12 weeks feeling like an incapable whale. What happened to the blooming??!!!

choudru · 11/08/2007 11:58

Sorry to hear that purplepants. I believe some women do get a bit of nausea in the final trimester.

As we hadn't been through enough!

On the bright side - 12 weeks doesn't sound like very long at all when you say it like that.

I'm getting very excited now - have made my list for hospital bags - will keep one separate for me and one for baby to be organised.

Also going to sister's - maybe tomorrow - to pick up her changing unit, car seat, toys, clothes, cotbed and bits and bobs.

Need to pick up breast pump and moses basket from SIL as well.

Baby's arrival feels very imminent as opposed to some distant event of the future.

Ooooh!

purplepants · 11/08/2007 12:09

12 weeks is aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages

I'm not very good at being ill or not being able to do things so this is my idea of purgatory...gumble.. grumble.. grunt.. moan.. whine..

You're very organised choudru (I'm impressed!) I've done nothing yet. Although, in all fairness, most stuff's pretty accessible in bags in the loft & the rest's in DS bedroom - if push came to shove (as it were) DH is very good & could sort everything out pretty quickly. I suppose I ought to think about the emergency bag for hospital, though maybe leave it for a day when I'm less of a miserable, mardy cow

seabiscuit · 11/08/2007 12:13

All the talk of downstairs massage has given me a real giggle - thanks girls ! I'm not sure I could go for fingers in holes, but a friend of mine swears by an oil mix she used with both her her pregnancies (not a tear in sight) - it just involves a bit of rubbing in the general area. She's given me the recipe but it all sounds a bit complicated - I've seen perineal creams and stuff at green baby and neal's yard - anyone heard reports on effectiveness of these ?
Cot top changers also something I'm considering, though met with scornful - "I just did it on the floor" from the mother - thinking the ikea unit sounds good..
Loved hearing about your dreams, esp kitten breastfeeding (eeuw!) I had a very horrid and vivd one about pooing graphically in public - am sure it's down to mounting birth anxiety

littleoldme · 11/08/2007 13:09

Well 'we' decided to decorate today but DH is soing it all - bless him. I've been commanded to chill.

You lot all sound v organised. C'os I'm only 24 weeks and due at the end of nov I feel like I've got loads of time.

Nursery/spareroom/study sorting will happen in Sept.

I know what you mean about changing on the floor but I'm concerned about post birth fitness...

RGPargy · 11/08/2007 13:16

LMAO @ your dreams Littleoldme and Seabiscuit. They made me and DP giggle

DS's job is deffo a weight off my mind!

I like the sound of the Ikea change top thing too, but (not wanting to sound like SB's mum) with DS i just did it on the floor!

I'm feeling a bit nauseous [sp?] lately too. Only about 2 hours after i've got up and usually before i've eaten anything. Strange.

have anyone else's boobs starting to change again? Not only are mine growing yet again (didn't think they could get any bigger!), but they're also starting to change colour. Sorry if TMI, but the areola and nips are starting to blend in colour and they're starting to go a bit brown around the areola bit too! Never noticed that with DS!

superloopy · 11/08/2007 14:13

Another vote for the Ikea change table here too. I think it is in the diktad range. I bought one for DD and loved it so much I had it shipped out here to Oz when we moved.

Our London flat was so small we had to put it in the living room!

Cot top changers are ok if you have limited space but once your LO starts standing up in bed they bang their heads on them!

aikigypsy · 11/08/2007 14:14

eek. Nursing kittens? Sounds painful. I haven't had any whacky dreams lately, still haven't been sleeping quite enough.

I am also having bouts of nausea again. My midwife recommended Preggie Pops, and I got some the other day. Only used one so far, but it helped a lot.

I didn't think that my boobs could have gotten any bigger, but then I measured. There is no earthly reason why they should be so big!!! They're nearly an H cup by my sleepy calculations. That is just not right. They'd better not get any bigger, or my spine will collapse from the weight.

The boobs remain the same in same in size but much more tender.

I still feel quite sick on and off too although sometimes I think I confuse it with heartburn. I'm sure my body used to do what I told it.

I though cot top changer were removable - don't like the sound of child head banging.

Aiki - what are preggie pops. I like the sound of them.

OP posts:
aikigypsy · 11/08/2007 15:47

Preggie pops are these lollipop-type things which have something in them to reduce nausea etc. I got the drops... too lazy to do the link, but here's their website: www.threelollies.com/

silkcushion · 11/08/2007 18:49

Perineal massage - book says you put both yr thumbs in the opening of yr vagina and push down to perineum and and massage gently. Doesn't sound that much fun but at least it doesn't say shove yr finger up yr bum!!!

Sil did it religiously before her HB with no 2 child and didn't tear at all.

Boobs - I leapt into a size F by week 5/6 and now they are uncomfortably tight again How big are these babies going to get???? DH says he doesn't mind though.

Having very vivid dreams too but none as amusing as the bf kitties.

purplepants · 11/08/2007 21:37

Aikigypsy - preggiepops!!!!! thanks for the reminder. I had some of the drops last pg and they were brilliant, I don't know why I didn't think of them before - oh, hang on, yes I do - I'm pg and have lost the use of my brain

Looopymumsy - good to see you again Did you have a good hols? (apart from the bad back!)

RGPargy - re boobs - am with you on the mottling / merging colour and they're beginning to get a bit more achey. As a result I've had to wear hideous hammocks to bed for support (just call me madamsexyinhideoushammocks )

Littleoldme - hope you enjoyed your enforced chill today . DH ordered me to do nothing too (again) I think I sort of managed it. I spent a lot of time gently bimbling around the garden (even if I wasn't always sitting down). DH did a load of ironing, sorted DS's lunch out and then barbecued us our tea! He's such a star - and earned lots of brownie points today - possibly even due some "repayment" as I don't feel half as knackered as usual this evening (I'm normally in bed by now)

littleoldme · 11/08/2007 23:07

Purple - I did enjoy my forced chill ta. I cleaned our fetid kitchen, had a very slow swim and watched lots of pants TV.

The SPD is getting worse - DH and I had an amusing waddle to the shop for malteesers. It's usually a 10 min round trip which today took half an hour. Glad there was choc at the end of it!

Hey - uproar in the little house. Well from me anyway. I decided {in a non anal or obessessive way - honest]to work out why our bed sheets are always too big. Upon measuring the matress I discovered to my disgust our supposedly 'Kingsize ' bed is 5 cm too narrow and 10cm too short so isn't kingsize at all... It isn't any size. It's just wrong and I want my missing centimetres back. Think I might have OCD ?

Hi all, like the dreams lol!!

Am so hot tonight, sitting with my bump out, DS2 is stretching about.. can see him moving now.

Injections are getting easier, still haven't managed to do it myself yet, but I am getting used to them, poor MIL is doing them, and she thinks that she is hurting me, but she isn't at all, just the drug that actually hurts

There was a huge fire on a building site near my house today, you could see the smoke from here, when I went to pick up Dd1 from her carers, I could see huge flames coming from near the town, when I went to the petrol station, could see that it was on a site that did have new flats being built, those flats are not there anymore...

RGPargy · 12/08/2007 01:13

Purple - i've been in hammocks since the beginning of this pg!!!

Littleoldme - It's amazing how far we will go and how much pain we will endure for chocolate!

Sparkly - glad you're feeling better about your injections. Next step is to do them yourself.....

Our new shed came today so tomorrow DP and FIL are going to erect it. That means that all the crap that's been harbouring in our conservatory can now thankfully go into it's proper and rightful place. our conservatory will look huuuuge again!! yay!!!

iris66 · 12/08/2007 21:45

Blimey RGPargy you were up late last night I think the last time I saw that time was about 2 years ago (unless you count having gone to bed first & been woken up ) Fingers crossed that your DS enjoys his first day at work tomorrow. You must be so proud. Hope all goes well for him (and you!!)

I think I'm a bit peeved about wearing hammocks at night because I know how long I'm going to be in them for "after" the birth too!! Oh the delights of growing a scrummy gorgeous little person eh! - sooooooooooo worth it though

I've changed my name back BTW. I keep noticing posters with purple or pants in their names and I'm finding it disturbing (sad, I know, but my name in RL isn't very common either so I'm not used to it )

SparklyGothKat - I think you're being so brave with the injections (and your MIL as such a star for helping! - wow, I'm so impressed!)

Littleoldme - I really feel for you on the SPD/waddle front I had a similar trip to the shop on friday and it was really not funny. Understanding DH's are worth their weight in gold aren't they (oooh note to self...still haven't "thanked" DH properly yet fell straight to sleep last night )

aikigypsy · 13/08/2007 01:38

I am looking at huge piles of junk thinking how it's possibly all going to fit into a moving van. Despite not having been here very long, I've acquired quite a few things. A lot, really. And I have to pack it all in the morning, maybe a little bit on Tuesday, too.

Meanwhile, a friend of mine had her baby on Friday, and I went to see them in the hospital this afternoon. She's so adorable! She wound up having a c-section, so the baby looks less squished than a vaginally born baby might, but very cute and making the most adorable little noises!

It convinced me that they do come out! Can't wait to meet mine.

I'm also glad I switched hospitals. My friend and her DH were all gushing about the quality of care where they were, but from the little I saw the nurses were quite unfriendly and it sounded like they dealt with about a dozen different midwives etc durring her 31 hour labour and subsequent c-section. I'm sure it's a fine place, but I think I'll be happier at my little rural hospital, with just the one midwife.

Pixiefish · 13/08/2007 08:15

Morning. back from Gulliver's World in Warrington. I had to go for a nap in the car
Bought the rest of the bits i wanted for the baby apart fot the mattresses. i don't know what to do about a cot mattress. I have a hardly used one in my mum's attic wrapped ina bin bag. It was on the cot at my mum's that my dd was meant to use but only used about twice.

I feel that I need a new one as that is the general advice- it was actually out for a year gathering dust and has since been in the attic in a black bin bag.
What do you lot think

Easywriter · 13/08/2007 08:31

RGPargy and Aikigypsy - I've been busy researching the GTT test (and info concerned with the GTT) and thought the following could be of interest to you.

  1. If your fundal height measures 3/4cms above the number of weeks pregnant you are then your MW may think you may be having a larger baby. You may be requested to go for a scan or asked to take the GTT as if you are less tolerant of glucose during pregnancy your baby may become larger.

  2. You're asked to eat normally for 3 days before the GTT but I'd beware of eating anything that you wouldn't eat routinely on an average day refined sugar and carbs in particular as these do affect your blood sugar.

Science-y bit over!
I can't believe you're all so organised, at first I thought it was because this is my second pregnancy but lets face it, I'm gonna have to admit it's probably because I'm pants!

We've got quite a bit of stuff from DD's but your guess is as good as mine as whether DD3 will arrive before I ever get upstairs to look at it.

The work on our house is due to start in 2 weeks . We're having a fireplace put in (needs to be done and done dusted as I want to give birth in the living room!) and every ceiling and wall in the entire house stripped and replastered. I hope my wee one understands how much nicer it will be to be born into calm rather than pandemonium and doesn't opt for an early appearance.

SGK - You're being really brave about the injections. Do you have to have them from now until you deliver?
Any more growth scans planned? It sounds as thought you don't need them if everyone's noticing your bump!

I had a really odd 5 mintues at the weekend talking to someone who was clearly the wrong side of a few chablis at a party. About once every 30 seconds she'd ask me when the baby was due, then marvel that still had 3 months to go, then she'd forget what we'd just said and ask me again! Aargh! Groundhog day!

Littleoldme - Thanks for the positive words about HWB. To be honest I feel very far from positive (about the GTT) even though I do feel as if I had a freaky result due to what I ate for lunch on the day of the GCT. I just don't want to be thinking about it as soon as I wake up or last thing before I go to bed - which I am! Blumming nightmare .

Boobs! Mine are HUUUUGE! Continents would be on red alert should I decide to go for a jog (as if) untethered!!

Easywriter · 13/08/2007 08:37

Pixie - I'm going to reuse the one in the attic.

DD's weren't that great at sleeping in their cots (why would they be when they could sleep spread eagle in mummy and daddy's bed AND having the joy of watching mummy and daddy try to sleep on about 2 inches of matress!) so the matressess are in pretty good shape.

The one's we had, had a washable top so I'm going to bung it in the washing maching at the hottest temp it can withstand and call it quits.
I'm hoping that'll do, unless anyone has any further info

RGPargy · 13/08/2007 11:04

Iris - can you believe i went to sleep at 3am on Saturday night/Sunday morning?!!! I haven't been up that late for months. Last time was probably when i was out raving! I have no idea why i was up so late. I'm not normally! I think i'm starting to get into tired mode again as i'm finding myself getting knackered quicker again now. I think i might have to say farewell to the energy i once had sigh .

As for hammocks, i'm not actually wearing anything at night because tbh, it's such a relief to get them off when i go to bed! I think i need new ones tho as my current ones are getting a little tight under my boobs and are starting to look a little snug on the cup front too lol.

Pixie - If the mattress isn't dusty then i spose you could use it..... Perhaps you could take it into the garden and give it a good old fashioned bashing to get all the dust out and then give it a hoover too? I'm sure it'll be fine!

Easywriter - My MW has already booked me in for the GTT, despite having no protein problems etc. Like you say tho, it's probs because of my 3cm measurement over the norm. TBH tho, i deffo dont think that this measurement thing is accurate in the slightest. Some days my uterus seems to be higher than other days. Strange, i know, but i swear i felt the top of it where it should be one day and then felt it much higher the next.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

choudru · 13/08/2007 11:05

Morning,

Sounds like everyone is starting to get things together for the LOs. I went to sister's yesterday. DH and BIL loaded up our cars with masses of stuff. Some from her babies and some that we had given them after DS had finished with them.

She's given me millions of clothes

To be honest the only things we need to buy are mattress and bedding for cot and cotbed, and a double buggy.

Today I am hoping to arrange everything nicely in the nursery. At the moment there is no floor space to be seen due to piles of clothes that still need putting away from the house move.

I'd never heard of the GTT test before this thread. Hope it's not stressing you out!

Realised that if this pregnancy were to follow the pattern of the last one, my waters would be breaking in about 10 days!

Have an appointment with consultant tomorrow so we shall see.

Better put DS down for a nap so I can get on with things in the nursery.
