OMG Aiki - that's ambitious!! I don't envy you at all...!
We just found out on Friday that our offer on a house was accepted (phew!) so hoping to move in 8 weeks or so after completing and doing a bit of work on it.

SGK you poor thing - I am having dreadful probs with my jabs (due to an extremely bad experience as a child) and just discovered i have rhesus neg blood so have to get the blooming anti-d injections too. Are you bad with them generally?

I am envious of everyone having the late scans - we only get the 12 week one in our HA -would love to see how the LO has grown. We are thinking of paying for one but it's a bit expensive.

My friend gave birth to her baby at home yesterday and has named him Hamish-- it's made me even more excited about the arrival of our baby, I really can't wait to find out if it's a boy or girl!!

choudru · 10/08/2007 09:09

Morning ladies,

28 weeks today - have appointments with the midwife and consultant next week so hopefully they can tell me there are no indications it looking like a premmie.

Sorry to hear about the injections - it makes me cringe as well but as RG says - if you have to do it, I have a suspicion that you'll just get on with it Sparkly.

Reminds me of that feeling when you have applied the wax to bikini line and you have to rip it off. Too late to turn back once the wax has been applied!

Which reminds me of another MN thread I read months ago about what maintenance (if any) people were planning for their erm...lady gardens...

Had me laughing out loud

Because DS was early, I was not expecting my private areas to be on show and probably looked like a hairy ape. I actually remember thinking as the midwives were checking me over - 'my legs are so hairy'.

Thanks so much for the list Anna - now I just need to find a huge case or 3 to fit it all into!

Off to have a shower now - need to get it together in time to take DS to story time at the library.

littleoldme · 10/08/2007 09:49

What a marvellous euphemism - Lady Garden. I'm going to try and use at least three times in conversation today. LOL

Choudru- BTW I did some v boring market research for these guys about washing powder. YAWN. They also do groups with pg women and mothers testing various baby/child related products. These things usually pay about £35 per hour and half. They are based in wetherby.

Here's the info if you fancy getting in touch with them.

OP posts:
choudru · 10/08/2007 10:46

Oooh thanks littleoldme - have e-mailed them.

£35 is better than a slap in the face

Have just showered myself and DS and he's fallen asleep on the sofa.

I should take advantage of the opportunity to go unpack some boxes while he's out of the way but all I feel like doing is downloading old cranberries' music from the internet.

Don't ask me why the cranberries.

Do you have to let it linger la la la...

littleoldme · 10/08/2007 11:28

Memories- we used to sing that when someone 'let one go' in the car.

OP posts:
choudru · 10/08/2007 11:32

Did you used to sing 'Memories' or did you sing 'Linger'?

When the dawn comes, tonight will be a memory toooooo la la la....

Just tried e-mailing you littleoldme - came back undelivered. Used little 50 me @ yahoo dot com.

silkcushion · 10/08/2007 12:13

Revel - the osteopath was absolutely fantastic. I was in agony for a week beforehand and the pain stopped pretty much immediately afterwards. It felt a bit weird though. Lying on a couch in trousers and a bra with some bloke squishing me in bear hugs and making my back and neck sound like they were breaking. Didn't hurt though.

Can't remember who said they'd been to see Hairspray but my LO loved it as well - I'm convinced she was dancing throughout.

And as previously suggested - Pelvic Floor reminder for us all.

sparklygothkat · 10/08/2007 12:56

Just had my 2 nd injection, my MIL came and done it for me, as i am such a wimp. It didn;t hurt going in today but the drug is very stingy. Not sure if I will get used to this.
Have to go into hospital next week for my GTT and the steriod injections, which I am really not looking forward to at all.

choudru · 10/08/2007 15:46

I want to go see Hairspray but I doubt I will be able to convince DH to see it. Will have to drag sis along.

Ooh Sparkly - sounds awful - I remember the injection they give you after c-section (the one you have for about 5 days) was stingy and I used to have to brace myself for it. Hated hated hated it!

Feel for you honey

Silk - how bizarre! Well, as long as it did the trick. Wonder how many grey and sagging bras the osteopath has seen in their career he he

DS and I are back from the library - he enjoyed the storytime and made himself a lovely lion mask so he's happy - makes me feel like a proper mum.

I spent a couple of days with my sister this week and my word, is she supermum or what?! All her 3 children (5 and under) are always spotless and her house is always clean. She has loads of acitivies organised for them - baking, crafty stuff, dressing up etc.

She NEVER sits down!

In contrast, I got myself a good book from the library and now I plan to put my feet up and read while DS watches cbeebies until DH gets home.

I'm so lazy.

revelyell · 10/08/2007 16:33

thanks silk, concentrated constipated look

v glad it helped you. mine has taken august off and i am in agony again if i sit in any position longer than 5 mins. sorry i forgot to warn you about the nakedness involved! i am always asked to get down to my bra and knickers so you got off lightly! was taken aback the first time so now always wear my sturdiest grundies. ...

choudru im gonna be like your sis

Well, as I knew I would, I feel soooo much calmer about the whole christening pressure thing - littleold, between you, RG and aiki, I feel well and truly counselled and filled with resolve. I think you're definitely right about the thin end of the wedge thing. Think I'm leaning towards CoE christening but when I feel like it, whether 6 months or 6 years down the line - key thing for me I think is not being bounced into doing it soon just because of their depressing beliefs !
As for pram thing, I had to laugh aiki at your "do you do a lot of jogging or running through the bush question" - nearly choked on my Caramac (do they have those in the States ?) and fell off my huge arm chair. Alas a bit of sedate swimming is the best I manage, so think I'm probably not a 3 wheeler girl. Hope your house move went well - spooky that you're just back from ireland, since that's where the scary in-laws live ! Hope you're managing to retain some of the post holiday calm x

littleoldme · 10/08/2007 20:37

Choudru- sorry about that. It's a new address - I've just sent myself a message using .co.uk instead of com and it arrived. My bad.

No we only sang memories when there was not a sound from from the pavement. Linger was saved for great big guffs.

SGC glad you managed to get through your injections.

Revel- silk - sounds stragely painful. what is he treating you for.

Two people have now told me about about perenial massage ... anyone????

Also trying to space save in our miniscule nursery. Anyone used cot top changers???

OP posts:
AnnainNZ · 10/08/2007 20:56

Littleoldme - I think cot top changers are quite a good idea - I think changing tables are a bit of a waste of space if you have a small nursery. I odn't think they're really necessary. I am just having a change mat (bought for about 8 quid) on top of a chest of drawers - there's a lot more storage in the drawers than there wou;d be underneath a change table.
As for the perineal massage thing, well I read about it back in the early days of the pg when I was enthusiastically reading about 3 pg books a week (I'm a bit over them now). It doesn't look like a huge amounbt of fun anbd I don't know how much of a difference it makes as to whether you tear or not. Eek, m trying not to think abuot it all (la la la, singing with hands over ears, la la la, not going to hurt...)

DH did catch glimpse of a diagram of perinel massage in one of the books, he went very pale and looked absolutely horrified think he might get a few shocks at the birth!

RGPargy · 11/08/2007 00:07

hi everyone

Just thought i'd pop by and say hi!

I had the day off work today to go and see my friend who lives near Potters Bar. BIG mistake! According to my TomTom, it should have taken me an hour. But no, the M25 decides to be at virtually a standstill and instead it takes me 3 HOURS to get there!! I was exhausted and also very very glad that i'd not had alot to drink before i left! Then the journey home took me about 2 hours because of a diversion getting back onto the M25 and then a humungous amount of queueing at the Dartford Crossing. Nightmare! I didn't even go in the rush hour!!! Still, it was lovely to see her and her son - such a cutie - and she gave me loads of baby stuff too!

Great news re my DS. HE'S GOT A JOB!!!!!!!!!! He rang up someone from the paper who weren't even advertising for jobs and asked if they needed any labourers and now he starts on Monday! Fingers crossed that it works out for him.

Perenial massage - hmm dont fancy the idea of that AT ALL. you have to stick your finger and thumb up both holes at teh same time and it just looks so undignified!! Thanx all the same but i'll just rely on teh water from the birthing pool to "soften me up"

Hope everyone has a fab weekend!

aikigypsy · 11/08/2007 00:10

Perineal massage... sounds like a good idea to me, and amused by Anna's DH's shock at the concept.

I am over the reading pregnancy books stage, too, but now I'm on to reading up about labor. Suddenly, it seems like it'll be coming up very soon. I got a hypnobirthing book from the library, and if it's not total drivel I'll probably buy a copy.

I had a bit of insomnia last night (up for 3 hours from 3-6 or so), so I'm feeling a bit drab and fat today, but now I'm really upset because on the way walking home I saw a woman screaming, really kind of out of control, at her child who was probaby about 4 years old. I thought at first it wasn't anything to be alarmed about, just a woman on the end of her tether, normally frustrated, but as I walked away and she kept yelling (could hear her from a block away) and the child didn't seem to be reacting, I just knew it was a bad situation. Not sure if she was on drugs or just mentally unbalanced, but she clearly didn't have a handle on herself, and I found myself starting to cry.

This was in a very crowded urban area, and I saw a policeman a block later, and asked if he could have someone go check on the situation -- I was, and am, really worried about the child, and far too freaked out and unsure of the situation to say anything.

AnnainNZ · 11/08/2007 02:59

Yeah, if he gets freaked by a diagram of a perineum in a book I htink it's safe to say he'll be better off staying at the head end for teh birth.

Bless him, he's not , how shall I say, very much in touch with his feminine side

AnnainNZ · 11/08/2007 03:00

Argh that was meant ot come out in italics. Clearly I'm not very much in touch with my technological side

purplepants · 11/08/2007 07:41

Anna - PMSL at yr DH's reaction over the perineal massage I think position and speed of delivery have a huge impact and, like RG I'm hoping the water will help

aikigypsy - that sounds like a horrible afternoon. I hate hearing parents being like that. It's hard not to dwell on it after isn't it.

Littleoldme - I used to be very anti cot-top changers (DD was changed wherever she was) however, a friend recommended a unit from ikea. It's a chest of drawers with a changer on top that, after potty training, you can fold in half and the changer becomes 2 shelves! I love it and it's much easier on our backs than using the floor/bed/sofa.

purplepants · 11/08/2007 07:48

ps - RGPargy - fantastic news about DS! A bit of hard earned dosh does wonders for motivation

Pixiefish · 11/08/2007 08:15

morning. Just off to read the thread

sarahloumadam · 11/08/2007 08:29

Eek I didn't realise p-massage involved fingers in holes ! Must have skim-read that bit. My DH also a bit squeamish so fully expecting him to share my gas and air at some point during the proceedings!

On a lighter note, great news re your DS job RGPargy and glad you feeling calmer re your in-laws Seabiscuit.

We are looking after the in-laws dogs this weekend, they are smelly and weird! Hope you all have a lovely weekend .

Pixiefish · 11/08/2007 08:42

I only did the massage from the outside last year. maybe that's what i did wrong

AnnainNZ · 11/08/2007 09:45

Anyone else starting ante-natal classes soon?

Mine start on Wednesday. I wasn't that keen to do them and said so to my doctor. She said that she had gone to them when pg and she has a degree in gynacology and obstetrics. So I kind of felt obliged to go

It's not like I'll meet people there who live really close as the nearest free one is about 15 mins drive away. There is an organisation called Plunkett here who organise stuff for new mums and they organise groups of everyone in your area who's had a baby in teh same month - you take it in turns to have everyone else round to your house - so you can meet other mums that way.

Still not that keen on my antenatal classes but I'm sure I'll learn some new (and possibly scary!) stuff.
