No idea what I'm having. Wanted to find out but DH didn't and as it meant we'd have had to pay for a private scan we didn't bother.
What about you?

myfairone- it's ok, best friends dp is a taxi driver and has been on stand by since we found out i was pregnant!! he's more impatient than we are (they've got a 5 mth old)
i don't know about creams etc either even tho i've got 5 nieces and nephews from 2 to 19yrs! not sure about blankets etc either cos we're using grobags...
and whether the car seat is best in the front or back (no airbags)
and...and...and!!
i'm sure we'll cope!

anyone else hear anything about not using talcum powder anymore either? someone mentioned it to me the other day

Talc is meant to be a carcingenic. But so is coffee and red wine and a lot of other things they are discovering everyday. Talc did me no harm or many of the other children who grew up when I did. DD loves being attacked with talc in the bathroom after a bath and giggles for hours.

I'll be using it again. (And it smells so baby like as well)

i thought that talc was a (potential) problem as a fine powder that could cause breathing problems?

Having driven now with DD in car seat in the back, i would say it's easier to ignore her if she's crying and therefore concentrate on driving safely. If she was next to me I think there would be temptation to look at her and try to soothe her etc, thus being more of a distraction from the road. But I think you must do what you feel is best.

Nothing scientific to back this up, but think talc has been found in ovarian tumours. You can however get liquid talc that doesn't puff everywhere if you really want to use it.

I think dd was still covered in 'gunk' for up to a month after she was born, and didn't have a bath until she was a week old. Even then it was only water. Occasionally we put a couple of drops of lavender oil in an adult sized bath she was sharing with me. Think it's best to let the trace gunk get reabsorbed into the skin naturally as it's protective....but then I'm a hippy dippy slummy mummy.

DD has rarely had problems with nappy rash, and when she has ONE application of sudocrem worked a treat. We didn't use anything on her bum if there wasn't a problem, but then we used eco disposable nappies in the very early days when she was too small for cloth nappies, and then cloth nappies from aobut 2-3 months.

Hello ladies!! congrats to all those whose bubs have arrived! and fingers crossed for all those waiting. i am due in sept but popping on here as am starting to get excited!

anyhows - just a post re. the baby car seat in the front or back. the best is to put the baby in the back behind passenger seat and get one of those mirrors to keep an eye on the baby from your rearview. Basically - the airbags, including front passenger airbag are there for the drivers safety - so unless absolutely necessary, they dont advise putting the baby seat in the front. hope that helps.

Hi all, there seem to be a lot of us twiddling our thumbs today.
I had an antenatal appointment (the one I wasn't expected to make according to my last appointment.) Baby is 3/5th engaged...

Oh S* just leant back on my chair and the back has snapped off. Managed to grab things and saved myself from a very painful landing...
Sorry for the swearing but that was very scary.

LO fidgeting now... hopefully it's decided it's not so safe and comfy in my belly after all.

Anyway... where was I? Baby 3/5ths engaged, and Midwife thinks it'll appear before my sweep appointment next week. I don't believe them anymore though. I think it knows it's due the same date its cousin was due last year. She appeared a week late, which is the date of my sweep.

On the subject of talc, we were told never to use it around the groin area on girls/women of any age at our antenatal class. Apparently it travels and has been found inside ovaries and blocking fallopian tubes. [we need a yuck face]

Also for cleaning babies, just use cotton wool and water, no barrier cream and a very thin layer of sudocrem if they get nappy rash. The sudocrem should be worked in, not left so it's white.
We were also told to avoid any baby cleaning products for the first few months, even Johnsons and wet wipes, the midwife had a real downer on Johnsons products, they have some nasty ingredients in them. She advised just using water, or hunting for organic stuff.

So now DP and I are using the Johnsons stuff on ourselves. I'm not sure what we're going to do with the 29 packets of wet wipes we have, everyone has been buying them for us! I'm sure they'll get used eventually

Bilblio, I bought lots of Johnsons things for ds and then as he had eczema we couldn't use them on him at all. I can report though that their Bedtime lavendery range is gorgeous, really expensive smelling and it definitely works - I used to have to fish dh out of the bath every time he used it as he'd always fall asleep!

Still no real action here although I have been having mild contractions - well what felt like quite strong ones in the night! They were every 10 mins but as yesterday, when I'm up and about with ds they get much more irregular. I'm needing the paracetamols today so it must be getting a bit stronger. I think it's fair to say it will be here in the next week some time but who knows when?

I just freecycled 4 bottles of Johnson Baby bath I was given for dd.

hmmm, is there a polite way to tell dp's friend that a 'black widow'catapult is not a suitable present for a new born baby? dp doesn't see the problem!
