Hi ladies! Picking names, packing hospital bags - third trimester here we come! Smile

I thought I'd start out with the stats this time and I'll post the updated name list in a bit. I've just included the data that I have, since a lot of people are missing bits (or quite possibly I've missed their posts). We come from all over, so I'll put that bit in another post later as well.

Our average age at estimated due date is 33! That should help some of us who are feeling older.

And that's not just because we're all second-timers! In fact, most of us are having our first baby this year.

Baby #1 - 31
Baby #2 - 26
Baby #3 - 9
Baby #4 - 1
Babies 1&2 together! - 1

Fifteen of us are expecting lovely little boys, nineteen of us are expecting darling little girls, and at least sixteen of us are waiting to be surprised!

The average due date is June 13th, and the most popular due date is June 24th. We don't have anyone expecting on the 15th, 23rd, 27th, or 30th as far as I can tell.

And if you happen to have a baby on my birthday (June 16th), your baby will be born on Father's Day this year!

I have HAD IT with being pregnant. I don't know what I was thinking, getting knocked up was a terrible idea. I had my 1 hour GTT test (in the US, everyone gets tested) on Thursday, and I failed it. Despite having none of the risk factors.

I have to go in again on Monday for the three hour test and I am dreading it. I'm so upset, I've been crying on and off all weekend, it's just completely sent me over the edge and I can't cope at all. I don't think I've ever been more miserable in my life than I am right now.

To add insult to injury, my doctor's still worried about my weight gain, or lack thereof AND my baby is measuring small so I have to go in for extra scans and monitoring. Great. Really great for someone who's struggling with prenatal anxiety.

Kimbishop86 · 23/03/2019 22:23

Place marking! I entered he third trimester on Friday. Mega heart burn and back ache every evening now and definitely got a waddle going on. Sorry to hear some of you are struggling. We're on the final straight now though, think of how far we've come since those first weeks of millions of pregnancy tests and worrying about 12 week scans! Xx

PBobs · 23/03/2019 23:12

Hello everyone! I'm due in June with our one and only and am 29 weeks on Monday. All seems to be going well although baby was measuring small and seems to have picked up now. My colleague is due 3 weeks after me and her bump seems so much bigger than mine.

I have a Q: How late did you all have your GTT? I had the 1 hour one right at the start - week 4 or 5. Then I had another 2 or 3 hour one at around week 24. Should I be having another one? I'm overseas and under the care of two different obgyn in two different countries so trying to work it out.

I've got another 5 weeks of work left and it's our busiest time. I lost it a bit on Friday after work as I have so much to do. On top of that we're moving to a new country in 5 weeks - via a looooong flight at 34 weeks and a couple of months back home to have baby - so we're packing boxes, sorting, throwing stuff out, etc. Such a busy time. It's all a bit mental. Movers come to pack out in 2 weeks and then we're living out of suitcases for 3. Argh!!!

Chloek93 · 24/03/2019 12:05

Hi all

I'm due 20 June 2019 this is my first baby and we're having a boy ! Backache and heartburn has got a lot worse lately.

Bizawit · 24/03/2019 12:41

Oh no @allfurcoatnoknickers really sorry to hear you are struggling. I get a lot of preg anxiety too so can imagine how stressful that is. For what it’s worth though, I’m not sure how accurate those 1 hour GTT tests are? I think it can depend on a lot of factors, so that’s why it’s just an indication for further testing. The measurement stuff is def totally inaccurate and v arbitrary from what I have read, and so many women are referred for growth scans. Also wouldn’t the two things contradict each other, if they were both accurate (measuring small + GD?). I think GD is supposed to lead to larger babies! So all in all I would take it all with a pinch of salt, and see it more in terms of - you and baby are being looked after, and everything is being fully investigated so that you can get any extra treatment or support you need, although chances are everything is fine. Not easy though with anxiety! 💐

Thanks all for the cot info. Seems like most people have gone for the Snuzpod, I’m leaning that way too although still haven’t decided. And thanks for the hospital bag lists! Sooo helpful- FTM here and no idea what I need to pack!

Daffydillo · 24/03/2019 12:55

Hi @chloek93 we’re due date buddies!

fee1234 · 24/03/2019 14:08

Hmm so I've just received a friend's wedding invite (nighttime only) for June and it's 20 days after my due date.. wonder what state I will be in at that point..

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 24/03/2019 14:32

The quicker you decline to attend @fee1234 the less negative impact it’ll have to the bride/groom.

Twenty days post partum...if baby arrives on your due date is way too early. Your hormones are going to be banging and you’ll probably still just want to not venture too far from home and elasticated waistbands x

Kescilly · 24/03/2019 14:57

Please don’t worry too much about the GTT, @allfurcoatnoknickers. Lots of people in the US fail the one hour and go on to pass the three hour. But even if you don’t, it’s not the end of the world. It just means some extra monitoring and watching what you eat, maybe some medication. I found the gestational diabetes on Reddit to be really helpful. I haven’t been diagnosed yet, but I’m high risk, so I’ve been reading it from the beginning. It makes the whole thing less scary for me.

@PBobs welcome! I think the GTT really depends on where you live and what your personal medical history is. I have multiple risk factors so I was scheduled for one around 28 weeks. Then the baby measured large at my 20 week scan, so they had me do it early.

I asked for it to be done again later (since it often develops between weeks 24-28) and I redid it at 27 weeks. Thought I was done, but baby is still big so I need to do my third 2 hour GTT at the end of this week.

I keep expecting to be diagnosed but it hasn’t happened yet. Maybe after this next test!

Bizawit · 24/03/2019 15:21

@PBobs in my area they screen everyone (GTT) regardless of risk factors and they do it once around 28 weeks..

fee1234 · 24/03/2019 15:54

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut you're right.. I think I'll send a nice present but decline. Im invited to the hen do which is local, but even then I will be 36 weeks and probably will only last an hour before needing to come home and lie down!

swiftfox · 24/03/2019 17:17

Sorry to hear that some are struggling so much! I was stressed out about a few relatively small things, and my friends reminded me that the little person you are about to have will have absolutely no expectations. We can all just do our best and that's good enough. Boobs (or a bottle) with milk, staying dry and warm - they won't care if the house is a mess or their nursery is not finished!

I'm so tired this weekend. It was a busy week, and I kept ploughing through 12 hour days in my politics-related job (guess what's keeping me busy..) and just now, at a Tesco, I thought I'd collapse. I suddenly could barely walk straight. People probably thought very badly of me as I was also holding a tiny bottle of a very crappy white wine meant for a risotto... Anyone else had these sudden waves of exhaustion? I can't get off the sofa. Risotto had been delegated to husband.

Blondcat · 24/03/2019 17:46

Oh my god I can't believe how generous some of our friends are they said that they had some bits to give us and we have just been round for a Sunday roast and come back with a car full of stuff! Jumperoo, brand new stair gate play mat loads of toys and some clothes. Really grateful just need to finish painting the house and get the king sized bed removed from the baby's room so we actually have somewhere to put it all 😂

allfurcoatnoknickers · 24/03/2019 19:53

@Bizawit @Kescilly thanks for your kind words. I'm just in such a panic that I might have GD, and that my diet will become even more restrictive and that I'll have to stick myself in the finger a million times a day and that I just won't be able to bring myself to do it Sad.

Also dreading the three hour test tomorrow. You can't make an appointment, so I just have to show up at 8am, after fasting for 12 hours and hope they can see me. I really hope I don't faint on the subway or throw up the drink.

Pigriver · 24/03/2019 22:29

Hi everyone! I managed to lose track of the last thread so not checked in for a while.
Currently 27 weeks. Had a growth scan last week and baby is measuring 2lb2oz which doesn’t quite account for the 2 stone weight gain.....
Placenta is still completely covering the os so I’ll have a placental placement scan at 34 weeks (also a growth scan at 32 weeks). 3 weeks to go until my appointment with birth matters to discuss a ELCS. A bit apprehensive about how it will go but it may be a moot poin5 anyway as PP would rule out a natural delivery anyway.
Still constipated and I guess my iron levels are still low as I’m feeling very out of breath. Bought some spatone to see if that helps at the iron tables are doing nothing but bunging me u!

PBobs · 25/03/2019 03:12

@Kescilly @Bizawit thanks very much. Sounds like I'll need to do another one. Grrr. Don't mind the test so much but it takes so much time out of the day. Hey ho. Nobody said babies were time or cost efficient Grin.

Good luck @Kescilly! I hope you keep passing the test.

KoalasAteMyHomework · 25/03/2019 07:10

Thinking of you today allfurcoatnoknickers hope the test goes ok and try not to panic about it if you can. Just take things one step at a time and not worry about the ifs, what's and maybes until you need to (easier said than done!)
I weirdly found the Mothercare hospital bag list the best one so have used that again this time. I was kept in around 3 days with DS, so have done up two lists - one for if everything goes smoothly and I am out the same or next day and then a second bag to keep in the car or at home so that if I do need to stay longer then DH can just grab the extra stuff. That way I am only taking baby outfits, nappies and my clothes for 2 days with extra to hand if I stay in. And if you're in the UK don't forget the car seat if you're driving home after! And definitely do not leave it until you are in labour to figure out how to fit it Blush Grin
I bought nursing pyjamas last time round and then ended up having an epidural and needed a catheter. It's a little thing but it meant DH had to buy me a nightie from the limited selection and sizing at the hospital gift shop as couldn't wear my pyjamas with the catheter etc. So even if you aren't a "nightie person" I'd recommend having one or an oversized t-shirt for post delivery. And bigger or disposable knickers as I also didn't account for the swelling down below so glad I had those throwaway ones.
If anyone wants to see my lists let me know and I'll post them. I am nowhere near packing the bag yet but at least I have my lists for labour/hospital, post birth & baby, list for DH (snacks for him, parking change, movie on his phone etc) and also a list for my DS so if things move quickly he's all packed ready to go to grandparents - this may seem a tad OTT but DS is autistic so packing the right breakfast cereal and night stuff is a bit more imperative in this house!

KoalasAteMyHomework · 25/03/2019 07:14

Also, had my 28w appt last week and really not happy with my midwife. They have ruled out the local birth centre despite me having a consultant say it was fine, so am pretty anxious now and upset that I feel like I have already lost control over my labour choices.
And has anyone else got varicose veins? I was told if they are above the knee I'll have to have injections after the birth due to blood clot risks. Just found some Sunday above my knee so looks like I'll need these injections. Anyone experienced this?

Fabuluce · 25/03/2019 08:27

Why did they rule it out koala?

WeeBean · 25/03/2019 08:40

Hope your GTT is going ok Allfurcoat!

I'm at the hospital for mine too, they struggled to get a vein for the first set of bloods so I've got needle bruises in both arms already, second and third set could be fun! Not helped by the fact I'd thrown up twice before leaving the house this morning. I actually quite liked the drink, that was the bit I was dreading most!

Welcome to the new people who've joined us 😀

Also sorry to hear some of you are having a rough time 😔

KoalasAteMyHomework · 25/03/2019 10:39

Bit of a long story Fabuluce but basically I had two blood transfusions after having DS, and there wasn't a note made of why. My midwife sent me to the consultant in case it was a haemorrhage (which I categorically know for a fact that it wasn't and tried to tell her this) and the consultant looked at my notes and said it was probably low iron and he has zero concerns and all fine for spontaneous labour this time and at the onsite birth centre if that's what I want. But then had my midwife appt and now being told it's against guidelines as I had a blood transfusion, which I was not told in the first place and my original midwife (booking in appt) and consultant had no issue with. Tbh the low iron was probably just because I hadn't eaten for 2 days and had a long labour.
Due to rotate changes again, I am seeing a different midwife (3 now, no continuity of care!!) at my 34w appt so going to push back again. It's mad they'll let me have a home birth but not let me go to the onsite birth centre which is a 2 mins transfer if I needed hospital intervention. Plus, due to my son's sensory issues, if I do end up in the hospital ward he probably won't be able to visit the new baby till we are home, whereas the birth centre has low lighting/much quieter/less people etc

KoalasAteMyHomework · 25/03/2019 10:41

Obviously if I had risk factors etc then I would go to the hospital, and was prepared to transfer there if necessary. I just don't feel that there is a medical reason for me to need to start in the hospital and I am really anxious in hospitals hence my pushing for the birth centre.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 25/03/2019 13:31

@WeeBean thank you! I'm 1 hour in, just had my second blood draw. The drink went down fine, and I don't feel nauseous this time, but the phlebotomist is viscous - I don't mind having my blood taken normally, but she stuck me so hard it brought tears to my eyes. Angry

allfurcoatnoknickers · 25/03/2019 13:31

Grr, I mean vicious.

WeeBean · 25/03/2019 13:38

Oh no @allfurcoatnoknickers! Is it the same person doing all your bloods? Hopefully you'll get someone more gentle for your last draw. I can't believe you just have to show up without an appointment and hope they can take you, especially when you have to fast! They book a max of 5 women in to start between 7:30 and 8am at my hospital, was so glad to get a drink of water when it was done!
