@CaseofEllen have you got varicose veins on your vulva? I had them I was so swollen and was sore by the end I wore maternity pads to stop my knickers rubbing - there goes my dignity!! The day after I delivered Lois they had gone though.

Jenfur · 21/03/2019 10:33

@caseofEllen at one point during my last labour, I looked up and there were about 5 or 6 people at that end, discussing how things were progressing and my bleeding. They really have seen it all and you get to a point of not caring.
That said, it was definitely more embarrassing and awkward having the sweep yesterday than I remember feeling during labour. I guess one on one in a quiet room makes it weirder.

I'm getting contractions now which are really bloody painful and starting to get anxious about not getting to hospital in time. I know you're supposed to know when you're in proper labour but I don't remember this at all from last time 🀦

Sheeni · 21/03/2019 10:39

I'm having a weird morning here. Looks like my waters broke, but I he had no mucus going or anything. Baby is 2/5 engaged. No contractions. No water leaking since that first small gush in the morning.
Went to my birthing centre and the midwives seem a bit perplexed as well. Hmm
I really wanted to avoid induction, but looks like I might not have a choice. Sad

Gronk27 · 21/03/2019 11:08

@caseofellen I decided on a shower rather than an actual bath because baths can cause a plug can’t they? I don’t know if that’s literally what you meant. I just remember you shouldn’t have a bath before a smear? Also my midwife said breathe and relax and the sweep is no worse than a smear. Use your breathing technique-basically breathe out more than you breathe in. In through nose, out through mouth. I’ll report back about mine!

Sheeni · 21/03/2019 11:39

@Gronk27 I just had a sweep. It wasn't fun, but wasn't really all that bad either. Most difficult part was relaxing after all the horror stories I've heard/read about the sweep. So the best you can do is go there thinking it's nothing out of ordinary, relax, breathe and you'll be OK.

Jenlou1992 · 21/03/2019 11:56

Anyone having a sweep coming up my midwife told me that if you have already had a child then your cervix never fully closes so on your 2nd + child sweeps are much more favourable. Hope that helps ease anyone that due to have one if it's not your first child . Think mine was only so awful because my cervix was closed but she was really digging . Otherwise if your dialated and the sweep is successful then it should just be embarressing more than anything else.

Gronk27 · 21/03/2019 12:13

@sheeni @caseofellen it wasn’t too bad, uncomfortable but kept breathing! She said cervix was favourable and baby’s head was very low. She was surprised it hadn’t already started. I’m booked in for induction on Sat, fingers crossed I don’t need it.

Sictransitgloria · 21/03/2019 12:19

Blimey this thread moves quick. Lovely to see more healthy babys born - congratulations ❀️

For those of you in the early stages of labour or in the last few days before induction etc - good luck and looking forward to seeing more announcements.

Feeling really out of sorts today. Had a busy few days and its caught up with me. 38+5 today, been getting more tightenings across my tummy. Also I am now on antibiotics as my urine which was dipped and clear but sent off to be on the safe side came back with infection πŸ˜‘ the antibiotics have been making me feel nauseous as well.

Hoping ladies around the same amount of pregnant as me are doing ok too and not getting fed up! I have found planning stuff helpful and not thinking about my due date although I have started getting messages from people asking if the baby is here and one friend actually text to say β€œyou know you’re having a baby next week right” πŸ˜‘ trying not to bite! I have been offered a sweep at 40+3 (2nd April) and been told they induce at 40+12 (11th April). Feels very...final?! Weird feeling.

Gronk27 · 21/03/2019 12:35

@sictransitgloria nip those texts in the bud if you can. They have driven me mad.

I now have absolutely horrendous heart burn to the point of heaving!

HidCat · 21/03/2019 14:17

@kee80 congratulations! She's beautiful. I hope you have a good recovery. xxx

I hope everyone else is doing ok, not long to go now ladies!

CaseofEllen · 21/03/2019 14:20

Thanks for all your positivity re sweep, glad to hear no one had the most awful experience! I have my appointment in an hour, I know I'll regret it if I don't have it as I really want to give birth! So need to pull up my big girl pants and do it 😬

Angelmiracle · 21/03/2019 16:12

Going to delivery suite with DH this evening to review and discuss birth preferences- I'll not call it a plan just what I'd prefer this time around!

Very tired with all my running around and feeling emosh today πŸ˜₯

Gronk27 · 21/03/2019 16:33

@angelmiracle sorry you're feeling emosh, maybe a bit apprehensive about your discussion? Hope you can get across what you want to say and they listen (and if they don't keep fighting the good fight!)x

CaseofEllen · 21/03/2019 17:30

Sweep done - won't lie I found it really painful. Like an instant period (but I do have bad periods) anyway, feeling proud of myself for having done it Grin

MW said I'm 2cm dilated, fully engaged so keeping my fingers crossed it does something!

@Angelmiracle sorry you're feeling down today. Hopefully the appointment tonight will help you feel more settled Thanks

Gronk27 · 21/03/2019 17:47

@caseofellen 2cm dilated is good news. Hope things progress.

I’ve had a bounce on my ball and now curled up on the sofa with the cat watching Milan!

Angelmiracle · 21/03/2019 17:47

@Gronk27 @CaseofEllen thanks ladies! I've made notes and will go over them with DH so he can help me out too. Hopefully it settles things. Will update later on x

Well done @CaseofEllen sounds promising!!

Anyone bleed after sweep?

Had my bloody show yesterday and a bit of pink blood after sweep but just had a bath and now having bright red blood, not too much though.. wondering if it's normal?

Dalesgirl16 · 21/03/2019 19:58

Good luck and well done all! I'm 38 plus 1 and got caesarean booked for next Friday but surprised if I make it to then. I had a urine test yesterday and got called to go back today ASAP for blood and urine tests as one level was high for indicator of pre-eclampsia. I got my husband to come home to look after toddler and then vomited for first time in months! So I was shattered when I got there and refused to stay for results this evening. Blood will come back tomorrow but urine was now clear after all that! I'm wiped out!

Gronk27 · 21/03/2019 20:03

@caseofellen I haven’t but MW said you can get a bit of blood.

Jenlou1992 · 21/03/2019 20:39

@CaseofEllen I bled quite a bit after a failed sweep yesterday . It died down as the day went on and was watery and then brown till it eventually stopped today . It is normal but MW told me to go triage if it didn't settle down

Angelmiracle · 21/03/2019 21:51

Thanks @Squirtlesmumagain

We had a really good meeting. Met consultant midwife from last week- she brought us to delivery suite to the birth pool room. Made me get into it (empty of course) lol move around etc. There's dimmed lighting and you can have your own music playing.

She gave some good advice and reassurance and has written notes on the front of the Intrapartum section of my notes so MW will see when I arrive in labour. I asked if it's possible to come in sooner than they usually accept (4cm plus) and she said mention previous traumatic delivery and her name and I can come to FMAU no problem. Even if I've pains I'm unsure of just ring in.

It was all so reassuring. She said I can still request CSection if I come in and not coping with anxiety. The fact that options are open to me even up to the onset of labour is so reassuring and I feel loads better.

Then out of nowhere she asked "what about a check and sweep?" I just looked at DH we both laughed and I said ok then! It was so unexpected I was surprised I actually agreed. But in a good way though and I'm happy I had it done even though I'm 38+6. I'm better not having lots of time to think.

Cervix is soft on the outside but firmer internally and she felt baby's head and managed the sweep. No pain at all. Your comment was in my head @Jenlou1992 !! I'll be offered another at 39+6 next week with growth scan. Hopefully I'll start in a day or two though πŸ˜‚

She did say to me @CaseofEllen I would bleed afterwards. And plug might start coming away. So far only a bit pinkish when wiping. No tightenings yet. 🀞

Jenfur · 22/03/2019 00:33

@CaseofEllen I've had lots of bloody mucus since my sweep then became just mucus and this evening has turned more pink or red and watery.

Contractions have been between 5-10 minutes apart throughout the day. Slept for a few minutes at a time this evening but have given up because the pain was so intense and about every 6 minutes. When I walk around, the pain isn't as bad but contractions come every 2-3 mins. Called hospital and they said to take paracetamol, rest where possible and call again if 3 or 4 in 10 mins or I need other pain relief. Spent the last half hour with more regular contractions lasting a minute, wanting to cry with pain then just had a random 5 minutes between them which was such a relief!! Don't think I'll be able to stay at home much longer if the pain stays like this, I feel like a real wimp but it hurts so much.

Sheeni · 22/03/2019 02:04

@Jenfur Mine just started about 2 hours ago, 8-12 mins intervals. You seem to be much closer to active labour, I'm surprised you're not in yet, if it's 2-3 minutes apart?
My contractions are quite painful, but so far manageable, expecting them to get worse with time and dreading it already.
Are you using TENS? I don't want to make DH aware yet, so I can't ask him to put the electrodes on. Attempting some sleep now, but not sure how compatible that'll be with the contractions.
