New thread!

Sorry, don't know if someone else was planning to do this. Just noticed how close we were to being cut off on the last thread.

I've been meaning to read up on this too, but I think they can be pretty dangerous if the mother didn't have them in pregnancy. So I would just remind people as it's not something the sufferer might know unless they've been around babies.

Kentishgal · 19/02/2019 09:09

the dust - good luck - have you maternity notes / pregnancy magazine strategically popping out of your bag and rub your bump like Meghan Markle - that should get you a seat. Good luck with the scan stargazydrifter! Sorry to hear of all the illness. I've been up since 3am with my 3 yr old who has an earache...just packed her off to nursery so feeling suitably guilty and so knackered I don't want to face work!

whyAreAllTheGoodNamesAreGone · 19/02/2019 09:17

Hi, can I join you ladies? I’ve been lurking since the beginning but have never post.

Im a primary school teacher due baby number 1 on 8th July.

Kentishgal · 19/02/2019 09:17

fortheloveofdoughnuts I agree with stargazydrifter - it can be v dangerous. We always used to wash our hands before touching our new born - so I'd be a bit odd about people kissing my new born baby anyway.

Onestep2 · 19/02/2019 09:32

Morning
I really need to keep up on this chat!!
Had our 20 week scan last week, we were there for ages as baby was being stubborn and was all curled up and hiding its wee face for ages. Managed to resist finding out if its a boy or a girl. Thou DH was swithering just before we went in... It was his idea in the beginning to join team yellow LOL But i managed to stick to my guns and keep it a suprise.
Also for those planning on bottle feeding, asdas baby even have the perfect prep machine reduced down to £60.

Kentishgal · 19/02/2019 09:52

The perfect prep was definitelyone of the best things I bought the first time round and that's a really good price.

Chinks123 · 19/02/2019 10:07

@ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts If my experience the first time around is anything to go by you’ll have to tell people. I felt a bit awkward when we had visitors at the hospital and they were kissing her on the mouth as she was born in winter- I know it’s hard to resist since they’re so cute. I just got dp to tell people Smile

Dd was sick last night all over her bedroom..didn’t get much sleep and I feel abit ropey today.

BeckyButterfly · 19/02/2019 10:36

I think we’re all feeling a bit poop today! I’ve woken up feeling like I have a hangover 😩 I did completely gut the downstairs of our house yesterday, I was on for hours, then went out for a meal and didn’t get to bed till well after 12am so I think I’ve just overdone it a bit!

Good luck for scans to those who are having them (I can’t remember who said their scan was today!)

I’m feeling sorry for anyone who has to go into work feeling unwell, there’s nothing worse. It’s half term for me this week so I’m going to take it easy today I think.

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 19/02/2019 10:51

My concern isn't extended family, I'll happily tell them not to kiss the baby. It's my mum who gets cold sores, so I feel bad that I'll have to point it out to her.
Also (very outing) my dads wife is from a country that does a lot of face kissing to everyone. I really really really really don't want her kissing the baby. Just because I'm not her biggest fan Confused

BeckyButterfly · 19/02/2019 10:58

You can get signs now that you hang on the pram which tell people not to kiss and touch your baby! It is something that worries me because I think people always have this “I know better” attitude. A lot of older relatives have the view that it was fine when they were younger (even though I also like to point out that they thought smoking was good for them back then too..!) I think you just have to put your baby before other people’s feelings which is hard but very important. I have a friend whose baby ended up really ill in hospital because of someone she didn’t know touching him when she was out for a walk (he’s fine now, thankfully, but it was a very scary time)

Trying2bemum · 19/02/2019 11:10

Lol @twinkleday good effort trying!

@rosieposiePuddingandPi I cannot believe how mentally foggy I am! Thanks for the reassurance about the pressure xx

Your poor friend @kentishgal :( that is so sad. She may need some space from you, but I would still offer her your love and support via text

That's great your husband is so supportive @beckybutterfly- he sounds like a real rock

Thanks @stargazydrifter - glad to know my brain might improve! The insomnia is still so bad- last night wide awake at 3am. I think it may be more to do with ongoing problems with my husband as much as pregnancy unfortunately. Best of luck with your scan today xx

Feel better soon @aide2424 and @reginaphalange89 xx

@giraffe888 my ears often hurt after sleeping on my side too - not sure what to do about that...

wombatron · 19/02/2019 11:46

@ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts I plan on being subtle and requesting nicely that people don't, then going full on brutal if they don't take that warning. I already foresee MIL and DM having issues with having to wash their hands. I will not physically be handing over my baby to anyone that hasn't washed their hands, and I will be forcibly removing it from anyone who kisses/puts fingers in their mouth. I don't care who they are - my priority is their safety.

BeckyButterfly · 19/02/2019 12:08

I caved and have booked a short private scan at my local Mothercare! It was only £35 in my defence so I felt it was worth it to double check gender after the 16 week appointment. Two weeks feels so long to wait for my 20 week scan! I don’t think it helps that I’m not at work so just thinking about it all the time!

SnailorSwift · 19/02/2019 12:12

Just had 20 week scan this morning. All looking great. Still team yellow as DH is away with work so don't want to find out without him!

I'm still in the hospital, now hooked up having a Dynamap reading taken so doctor can come up with a plan for my BP.

BeckyButterfly · 19/02/2019 12:36

@SnailorSwift pleased to hear everything is looking good in there 😊 will you be finding out when DH is back? I hope your plan gets sorted!

SnailorSwift · 19/02/2019 13:36

Yes @BeckyButterfly I think we will find out when he's back. Another 4 weeks though until he's home!

I'll be scanned quite regularly from now on but we will book a 3D scan I think to find out!

ReginaPhalange89 · 19/02/2019 13:39

@SnailorSwift that's great! Will you be finding out the sex later or going to stay team yellow ?

I'm struggling today. I don't feel great and been sick a few times but apart from that I'm struggling in general ! My toddler is really taking it out of me. I've just been a walk , probably out for about 45 mins and I'm exhausted now 🙈 I don't know how I'm going to manage being heavily pregnant with a toddler ! Was so much easier last time with a 4 year old 🙈

HchyScott · 19/02/2019 15:01

Think you just have to be brutal in terms of people kissing and touching after all, it’s your baby and totally your choice. I’d wondered about the cold sore thing and will definitely be brutal about that but won’t be worried about handwashing or anything.

StargazyDrifter · 19/02/2019 15:28

Doughnuts I love the expression face kissing to everyone! 😂 That would be a definite no no for me! I think I'd just tell people upfront, maybe soften it with something along the lines of 'someone tried to kiss the baby at the doctor's/hospital the other day and the staff were super clear we should be really careful, hadn't realised ourselves how serious it can be' for the more resistant ones. In fact I think we might do that on MIL. There is a lot of 'face kissing for everyone' over that side too!

The 20 week scan was all good.😍 Lovely to see a defined little face and limbs and things. I'd remembered from the 12 week scan that the baby wasn't cooperating much (had to jump up and down) so had my one coffee for the week about 45 minutes before. Didn't make any difference! The baby still didn't really want to cooperate. The sonographer was in a hurry and a bit grumpy about it. Measurements all medium apart from the belly - 93rd percentile! So a little Buddha baby. 😂 Googling suggests the baby may end up large.

Bit surprising that they said no more scheduled scans! This is because all was well, but there is no way I can go another 4.5 months without another scan?! I've had 7 so far. I suppose maybe in reality most women donend up having them for movement queries, especially anxious first timer types like me with no experience of counting kicks. Still feels quite odd.

Have a mysterious 'consultant midwife' appointment on Thurs. I obviously see a midwife, also see the consultant at the same hospital because I'm 'high risk'. Reception couldn't tell me what this hybrid thing is for! Anyone know? I know all trusts are different, just on the off chance.

SnailorSwift · 19/02/2019 15:41

@ReginaPhalange89 yes will find out when DH home!

Hope your feeling better ASAP! Can't imagine how hard it is with little ones. DS is 6 and I'm still struggling this time!

@StargazyDrifter do you know why your considered 'high risk'? That might shed some light on how your appointment will go.

StargazyDrifter · 19/02/2019 15:55

High risk because of 3 'unexplained' losses last year, in reality that didn't have time to investigate because I got pregnant again with this one. Also PCOS, but that seems minor. Might be anxiety-related I suppose.

ReginaPhalange89 · 19/02/2019 16:36

@StargazyDrifter were you expecting more scans because your high risk ? The standard is just 2, 12 and 20 weeks . Even with anxiety / worrying about movements it's usually just a check of the heart beat or put on a monitor , I've had that in the past never offered a scan for that ?

ReginaPhalange89 · 19/02/2019 16:37

It is SUCH a long wait with nothing in between 20 week scan and birth though. I've never paid for any additional Private one's with our previous 2 babies but did end up having last minute growth scans at like 38 weeks

blueeyedviking · 19/02/2019 17:13

Hi everyone

Glad to hear that scans are going well. Hope everyone starts to feel better soon, this surely does wipe you out. My work launch has gone well so far, just utterly manic.

In case anyone gets pains in their muscles or still suffer from fatigue, it could be Vitamin D deficiency.. I've just found out I have developed it so have to take pills throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding + getting checks.

Does anyone have a pregnancy pillow to recommend? I'm struggling to sleep on my side without getting cramps or pains...

StargazyDrifter · 19/02/2019 17:14

I don't really know know what I was expecting, to he honest! Kind of naive. Just for them to check in a little closer to birth, I suppose. For things like size (eithermassive or smaller than expected) and maybe position... though that can change v quicli as far as I can tell. I suppose the MW appointments become more significant with heart machine/belly measuring, as opposed to just paperwork which is what I've had the last 2 times at 10w and 16w.
