New thread!

Sorry, don't know if someone else was planning to do this. Just noticed how close we were to being cut off on the last thread.

Congratulations on the scans @SnailorSwift @StargazyDrifter great news! We didn't have a belly measurement for ours, but are going back next week as they didn't manage to get all the measurements so maybe will then!

I've got the dreamgenii pillow and find it mega comfy. It's not the cheapest but a good nights sleep is worth the money in my mind!

Feeling the baby moving loads now - DH even thinks he felt him earlier!

Hope you're feeling better @ReginaPhalange89 and glad the launch has gone well @blueeyedviking

ReginaPhalange89 · 19/02/2019 17:34

@StargazyDrifter the midwife will feel your bump and measure you that's how they usually judge if baby is measuring small/big and if you're measuring a few weeks behind/ahead they will probably do a growth scan, but that's nothing something they routinely do so it's usually last minute ! They can also feel and see what position he/she is in so again if they thought baby was breech near the end they'd scan to check. With my last baby I was measuring 4 weeks behind so the midwife literally sent me straight up to the maternity unit to be scanned that same afternoon.

StargazyDrifter · 19/02/2019 17:35

blueeyedviking you know when all those Labour MPs resigned yesterday and there was talk of them forming a new political party, I wondered if that was your big launch! It didn't come to that in the end, so guessing not.

I've definitely hit a wall today, logged off early for a lie down. Slightly dreading going back to the office tomorrow. The person who has a sofa in their room is now back from leave, so no more sneaky lie-downs for me.

thedust hope your travels in the tube system today have been bearable.

StargazyDrifter · 19/02/2019 17:37

ReginaPhalange89 that's really helpful! If only they'd said that after 'no more scans'. Your account is far more reassuring. 😊

Kentishgal · 19/02/2019 18:25

stargazydrifter I found it a bit of a shock the first time - I had 12 and 20 week scans and that was it (aside from when I got to about 38 wks they scanned me with a hand held device to see if she was breech - turned out she just had a Kardashian like bum). In this health trust they've introduced another routine scan at 36 weeks (I think) - but I've chosen to go to another trust where they don't do it yet! I understand that is going to be rolled out nationally eventually though.

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 19/02/2019 18:30

@wombatron what is it with people wanting to put babies fingers in their mouths!!! Hmm

StargazyDrifter · 19/02/2019 18:40

Kentishgal that's interesting about plans to roll out nationally, in time.

DH and I were talking about the discrepancies in trusts' policies today, it seems so strange! I asked the sonographer earlier whether she could tell if my cervix was ok (with the NIPT scan they seemed to think it was on the shot side, but from a tummy scan it's not really definitive). Sonographer said they're not allowed to scan the cervix at my trust unless certain criteria were met (mainly previous 2nd trimester loss!), but that this was routine in her previous London trust. We talked a bit about how cruel it is to let women find out the v hard way that their cervix might not sustain a pregnancy, as there aren't any other symptoms for incompetent cervix that would even make you suspect it. Left me wondering about the cost of such a check vs cost of treating the incompetent cervix delivery/preterm birth/bereavements/MH after... there's probably a grim spreadsheet about it somewhere in the inner bowels of NHS hq!

thedust · 19/02/2019 18:53

Thanks all, I survived London and the tube! Didn't have to face full on rush hour and managed to grab the 'priority' seats on most tubes which was good.

I feel like I'm huge already for 19 weeks. I sent a photo to my friends and one of my friends commented that she had shown her mum and she was 'shocked' at how much I was showing. On the other hand, she'd be shocked if I wasn't showing at all. (Which I know some women don't still at 19 weeks, it's all down to individual factors). It just got me thinking about 'bump shaming'. I'm already adjusting to my changing body but I've become quite fond of my bump. There's no such thing as a 'perfect' bump, only a medical professional can say if you're big/small. It's upset me more than it should have so I'm trying to prepare myself for the 'you sure it's not twins in there?!' comments.

Glad to hear all good news from scans, I've got mine on Thursday. I was just saying to my friend who is due 3 days before me it's weird to think we're halfway but that's the last routine scan!

blueeyedviking · 19/02/2019 19:00

Thanks @capybaras - I'll check out the dreamgenii pillow Smile

Ha @stargazydrifter, I'm definitely not in politics. What I do isn't as important, I work in entertainment marketing. Was a new brand launch.

I had no idea that 20 week scan is our last one. That's made me really sad! We have got ours Friday morning... Haven't thought too much about it as been so busy, but starting to get nervous now.

I really fancy pancakes but just can't be bothered to cook... Just had a relaxing bath, find that it helps my stress levels...

Yukka · 19/02/2019 19:22

@stargazydrifter they may just see you to discuss any extra checks, even though you didn’t have tests there are things they would see in pregnancy that could be treated if spotted. Or they may reassess you risk category once they’ve got a bit more information from you.

TwinkleDay · 19/02/2019 19:35

@blueeyedviking I bath now every other day.. as opposed to pre pregnancy every Sunday night.

It helps me destress, and the water helps my face complexion lots... along with being able to clean things better that I can no longer see lol.. which is good as I have heard we are all at a high risk of piles..

I have been unable to roll over in the bath for a few weeks now.. what able you guys?

StargazyDrifter · 19/02/2019 19:39

thedust try not take any notice of those rude comments! Easier said than done, of course. It's just people saying stuff for the sake of having something to say. And ignorant stuff, at that. Things change so quickly anyway - time of day, levels of hydration and, with a photo, angles and scale play a part too. Your bump is perfect as it is. It's growing a huoooman! 😊 I say that as a very blobby looking short person, and proud of it!

blueeyedviking to be fair, a new brand is probably more use than another party! 😉 Sounds awesome! Totally with you on baths too.

Thanks Yukka I will report back!

TMI alert - does anyone else get like a buzzing feeling down below? It's a bit like sitting on a phone that's vibrating. Most bizarre. Not painful or anything, but I did spend most of yesterday wondering if they'd dig up a new tube line under our office! 🙈

RooKangaroo · 19/02/2019 19:45

I did spend most of yesterday wondering if they'd dig up a new tube line under our office! 🙈

Can't relate to that, @StargazyDrifter, but it did make me laugh 😂

Kentishgal · 19/02/2019 19:55

Aww thedust try and ignore those silly comments. I've had the twins comment numerous times in this pregnancy and my last. Including when I got undressed for a bath this evening from my husband said "jeez you like 9 months pregnant, are you sure there's just the one in there?!" 😂 I do find it funny as I know I am absolutely huge. But if it's any consolation, I was back in my size 8s within 6 weeks of having my daughter last time so it doesn't necessarily stay! Oo er stargazydrifter I cannot say I've experienced "the buzz"!

blueeyedviking · 19/02/2019 20:03

@Twinkleday I'm definitely getting addicted to them. Would love to have time to have more!

@StargazyDrifter Ha thank you! And are you doing your kegel exercises when you get that feeling? Because that happens to me Blush

@thedust try not let it get to you, but I know it's hard. My mum said to me when I was 16 weeks that surely I was further along as she wasn't that big with me... and then a few hours later a stranger asked me if I was expecting twins. And I am apparently normal for my weeks and fairly slim Confused. As you say, every bump is different. And yours is perfect as it has your little one in there.

cathyj87 · 19/02/2019 20:04

I mostly just lurk here, I find fb easier but just sharing another 20 week scan- all good with our wriggly wee DAUGHTER!

TwinkleDay · 19/02/2019 20:30

Bloody people ask me as well 'were your expecting to be this big at x amount of weeks' 'are you sure it's not twins'

For goodness sake people... some of These people are fairly large themselves and look like they have eaten a baby all year round !! Grr

StargazyDrifter · 19/02/2019 20:36

cathy congrats!!! I do remember you from the early versions of this thread.

blueeyedviking not doing kegels, just sitting! That's what so odd about "the buzz".

Maybe "the buzz" is one to take to that mysterious consultant midwife appointment on Thursday!

StargazyDrifter · 19/02/2019 20:38

Twinkle Day that's v v funny look like they have eaten a baby! 😂 I'm going to think that next time it happens to me!

Giraffe888 · 19/02/2019 20:57

I’ll join in with the comments on how big i am! I’m a size 6 and usually have a completely flat stomach so I obviously look odd with a big belly! The comments aren’t bothering me...yet!

StargazyDrifter · 19/02/2019 21:09

So I've been down a bit of a Google hole with the whole buzzing sensation thing. Lots of threads started by people describing it, but no real answers. Then I happened upon 'restless genital syndrome' but happily it's not the same as that, that one is constant arousal leading to pain (ouch!). The best explanation so far, from an Australian baby website, is:

You may begin to feel electrical buzzes down your legs and inside your vagina. This is caused by the baby hitting nerves as he settles into your pelvis.

So I'll go with that for now!

SnailorSwift · 19/02/2019 21:14

Oh god people infuriate me with the bump comments. Regardless of what size/shape you are somebody will have something to say.

For weeks in work I've been getting comments on how I've no bump, tiny etc. Then out shopping on Thursday I had a woman in a shop going on how I'd such a big bump for 20 weeks.

Convinced some people just like the sound of their own voice 😂

BeckyButterfly · 20/02/2019 01:28

@thedust the big bump comments were really getting me down last week too as people at work kept telling my how HUGE I am. They liked to tell me what size my own baby is right now as well (“it’s only the size of an apple”) and ask me why I’m so big. It’s just annoying and unnecessary! I cried to my husband about it one night because I do feel more sensitive at the minute and the tone of people’s voices was as if I was doing something on purpose for attention or something. I felt the need to keep making excuses about how I don’t have good stomach muscles and I have curvature of the spine which makes my tummy stick out more. Then, when I was feeling a bit stronger, I realised they can all F off 😃

HchyScott · 20/02/2019 06:27

So I’ve discovered if I lay flat on my back little lady goes nuts!! The cat woke me up early so she was on my chest having a fuss and baby was wiggling around in my belly. The best feeling 😊

ReginaPhalange89 · 20/02/2019 07:34

I don't get offended by the bump comments, I don't think people say it offensively? I like having a big bump ., Bigger the better for me !

If people were commenting on weight gain or saying I'd put it on all over then yeah I'd be offended but I quite like the comments about my bump! Not actually had many this time around (yet) but I did get all the "twins" comments last 2 pregnancies.
