New thread!

Sorry, don't know if someone else was planning to do this. Just noticed how close we were to being cut off on the last thread.

@HchyScott it’s awful isn’t it. I haven’t taken anything for mine yet ive just been drinking milk. (Google says to avoid milk but it seems to help me.) Had a midwife appointment today and completely forgot to mention it..typical!

BeckyButterfly · 06/03/2019 23:34

I hate heartburn! I would rather be sick! I’ve only had it a couple of times during pregnancy (touch wood)

blueeyedviking · 07/03/2019 08:43

Morning everyone.

The heartburn issues don't sound fun! I hope the gaviscon helps..

Today I've my maternity meeting with HR, need to decide on when to go off and for how long in the next 2 weeks. Shall be interesting as I'm going to see if I can work from home one day a week. The London commute in the summer is painful..

Also doing a tour of the maternity ward tonight with other parents to be. Not really sure what to expect!

Has anyone bought babymonitors yet? Any recommendations?

OneMoreWish · 07/03/2019 10:31

I had terrible heartburn last time and milk helped at first. Anyone who is at risk for gestation diabetes / has gestation diabetes be aware as they have sugar in them. Liquid gaviscon is better.

I also got prescription of doctor near end of pregnancy ( I hadn't realised you could get any) and they worked a treat- wish I had took them sooner.

I'm getting mild heartburn now which milk is helping but I would defo go doctor again if started getting bad again.

And if it helps with old midwives tales my first was born with a mop of blonde hair! X

OneMoreWish · 07/03/2019 10:31

Oops missed out rennies have sugar in them ( you can get sugar free ones but I found them harder to find)

OneMoreWish · 07/03/2019 10:33

@Trying2bemum yep I still cry at the drop of a hat -
Often I laugh why crying because it's for silly reasons but I just have to cry still - all my family are used to it as I was like this first time too x

cocodash · 07/03/2019 10:54

another really bad heartburn sufferer here

if you go to the docs you can get omparazole or ranatidine prescribed. Both perfectly fine for pregnancy and by god are they a life saver!!!

Capybaras · 07/03/2019 11:23

Has anyone got there matb1 form yet? Not due to see my midwife until I'm exactly 25 weeks, and supposed to submit form before then for work. Can't get hold of her at the moment either. Does anyone know if the GP can do it instead?

RooKangaroo · 07/03/2019 12:11

@Capybaras - I'm sure a few people have said they've phoned the midwife about it, and the midwife has done it and left at the GP or similar. Not sure if the GP can do it by themselves.

I'd suggest keep trying the midwife to get hold of someone.

I got mine on tuesday at my midwife appointment.

have filled it in and returned to work. Offical mat leave is 1st July (will finish up in June on annual leave) and not due back until after easter 2020!!!! how exciting!!!

14 more full weeks at work!!

ReginaPhalange89 · 07/03/2019 12:19

Heartburn has started over here too ! Only mild and occasional so far but it was bad last time so I expect it will be again !

Milk definitely helps, as does anything minty, gross but I've reached for the toothpaste a few times when I've run out of rennies/gaviscon! 😂 With my first baby I had one of those massive bottles of gaviscon and would just swig it out the bottle at my desk at work ! Ew.

Mat b1 form - I don't think it HAS to be in by 25 weeks does it ? I think that's the earliest you're usually given it. I think most work places are pretty easy going about it as long as they have a rough idea when you'll be finishing.

Toria73 · 07/03/2019 12:54

Belly button update - so far so good, it's still there but v shallow considering I used to have one of those really deep ones that you could use for sherbet dibdabs.
I was given my MatB1 at my 20wk twin clinic but I did have to ask for it. It was signed by a midwife even though it was the consultant who had said that she would get it for me.
Here's my big question - do I have to have a birth partner?? My mum is not an option as she has Alzheimer's, my dad offered but was greatly relieved when I said that was a definite no. I can't imagine anything worse :) If I'm having a scheduled section/induction then my sister will fly up to be with me assuming she has enough time to sort childcare; otherwise it's going to be a whenever the twins decide to come & you can't diarise that. My yoga class were appalled last night when I said I figured if that happened it would just be me.

Capybaras · 07/03/2019 14:14

Loving the belly button updates @Toria73
This is my first too so not sure about the birthing partner but there will be midwives there to support you so I can't imagine it would be a problem?

Just re-read my mat policy and it states 'notify HR of the pregnancy in writing no later than the end of the 15th week before the expected date of birth' so does that mean I have to submit before 25 weeks, or I have until 25+6 to submit? Tried the midwife again and no luck!

Onestep2 · 07/03/2019 14:23

@Capybaras - are you in civil service? that sounds very similar to put maternity guidance. and i was was told that the MatB1 form had to be with HR at least 15 weeks before due date. so before your 25 weeks otherwise your dates might not be approved in time

Capybaras · 07/03/2019 14:25

No I'm not - guess my 25 week appointment will be too late then! I'll keep trying the midwife and if not I'll call the GP surgery and see if they can do it. Still have three weeks to sort it but I don't like things like this hanging over me!

ReginaPhalange89 · 07/03/2019 16:16

@toria73 no you don't HAVE to have a birthing partner . I have a friend who had her 2nd /3rd babies alone as her OH had to look after the other kids and they've no family for hours around to help out.

If you wanted someone you could get a Doula , I don't know much about them or if you have to pay or what. But basically someone who is trained who can support you. you'd meet with them to discuss needs before the birth . I think I'd rather do it alone if my partner or mum couldn't come ! Lol

Toria73 · 07/03/2019 16:23

Thanks @Regina. Like you I think if I can’t have who I really want there, ie my sister, then I don’t really want anyone. I don’t think it’s really a spectator sport... says me who never missed an episode of One Born Every Minute & Call the Midwife before I got pregnant. Now I can’t watch SmileSmile

ReginaPhalange89 · 07/03/2019 16:54

Haha oh I still love watching One Born ! Sorry to be nosy but what about babies dad? Will he not be at the birth?

Kentishgal · 07/03/2019 17:34

Toria73 I may well be alone for my c-section too as we have nobody to look after our daughter - just depends if we can sort timings of nursery drop off / pick up (and lime you my mum has v advanced dementia - I feel for you). Just maybe have really clear birth preferences written down to cover every eventuality (even if you have a c-section (like "no running commentary, don't lower the curtain etc) as you won't have anyone to speak up for you. I've heard doulas are great though. Hope the twins are behaving and not causing too much discomfort?

Jxtina86 · 07/03/2019 17:34

I got my MatB1 from my GP yesterday - had to request it and then wait a week for them to do it. GP signed it, no need for midwife to it seemed but no idea if it varies between NHS trusts. Given the different experiences on here across a variety of issues it wouldn't surprise me!

RE birth partners - it will be DH although no idea how helpful he'll be. Whilst he's excited about it all, I don't think he truly realises what labour and birth could involve. My mum told me (in the nicest possible way) that she couldn't think of anything worse than being my birth partner, which was a relief as I didn't plan on her being there anyway!

Had my whooping cough jab yesterday and apart from it aching a bit (like the flu one did) haven't had any other side effects. Annoyingly was in my left arm (As right handed) but I usually sleep on my left. It hurt too much to lie on it last night which meant my right side of my back has killed today! Feel all out of kilter!

Kentishgal · 07/03/2019 17:43

Saw midwife yesterday for check up and she gave me my MATB1. I asked again about pelvic girdle pain as its been 10weeks or so of pain now - some days I struggle to stand and walk. I asked for a referral and she said no as she doesn't think it'll help - it's just one of those things! So I gave up and went to GP yesterday afternoon - by 10am this morning the hospital had rung with a physio appointment for Friday morning - such a difference!

Giraffe888 · 07/03/2019 18:45

@kentishgal I’m getting a lot of pain from PGP and went to physio on Monday. There’s not much they can do, showed me a few stretches and postures to help but they’re not making any difference. Just having to grin and bare it! X

wombatron · 07/03/2019 20:05

Evening all! 20 week scan today. Disastrous in some ways (lighthearted) but good in others. Baby is in there, beating and moving away. Unfortunately similar scenario to my 12 week scan where the little git wouldn't pose for its photo, it was warm and comfortable it seems and was only interested in showing its face and its back to us and looking down. So not only am I firmly team yellow still (no problem there), but I am half confirmed for the all ok. I have a rescan in 2 weeks to confirm the heart and 2 other things (the cord and something else).

So at least I get another scan and to see it! Yay!

SnailorSwift · 07/03/2019 20:12

Hi all!

Just catching up in bits and pieces. Hope everyone is well.

My Dsis and I started antenatal yoga this week - so far I had just been keeping up with my regular exercise routine (gym etc) but it was a lovely relaxing class.

Have booked a hypnobirthing class too which starts next week - can't wait!

ReginaPhalange89 · 07/03/2019 20:39

@wombatron I had similar with my scan on Tuesday! Having to go back next week to try again as he wouldn't budge despite me going for a walk, jumping up and down and drinking freezing water lol
