Clothes for both of you @Gronk27. Books/something to keep you entertained.
Depends how long you are in really!

Last time I went in Friday in labour, had DS at 00.30 then was moved down to postnatal about 11am (was very delayed as there was no space), but not discharged until Monday pm. Thankfully my room mate had got the WiFi set up on her tablet and we were streaming stuff to watch as I didn't have the brain power to read, but would have been hours of lonely boredom otherwise!

Gronk27 · 23/02/2019 17:27

@caseofellen @squirtlesmumagain think i’ll just send DH/Mum to house. I’ll overpack anyway, I don’t know any other way!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 23/02/2019 17:36

I would say, in the nicest way, don't rely too much on DH to be able to make any decisions when he first goes back.
Our experience was DH was absolutely shattered - he'd obviously been up as long as I had with the emotional roller coaster but without the hormones to help!
To be fair he probably shouldn't have done any driving but obviously had to!

Gronk27 · 23/02/2019 18:03

@squirtlesmumagain i’ll likely lay the stuff out so he can just grab and go but I hear you!

Wineandchoccy · 23/02/2019 18:11

@Gronk27 In my emergency bag I had spare pads, knickers, blanket, vests, sleepsuit, nighties.
The only thing I used was the nightie and baby blanket.

Angelmiracle · 23/02/2019 18:39

@Wineandchoccy how many sleepsuits did you go through at hospital?

HidCat · 23/02/2019 18:56

@Wineandchoccy so cute!

I can't remember what's in my bags - think a re-pack may be in order lol.

Wineandchoccy · 23/02/2019 19:24

@Angelmiracle 3 sleepsuits and 4 vests as she got poo on 1 of the vests plus on the blanket. She was born at 8.40 not dressed until lunchtime and we were discharged at 3pm the next day to give you an idea of timescales

Angelmiracle · 23/02/2019 19:55

Thank you @Wineandchoccy hoping this time will be a shorter stay. DS questioned how long I'd be gone when he seen what I'd packed Confused

I keep meaning to ask @wineandchoccy - have they checked Lois for the bright spot issue and cleared her?

Wineandchoccy · 23/02/2019 21:40

@SquirtlesMumAgain Yes they have and she is all clear so all that worry was for nothing which obviously we are over the moon about but I did not enjoy the pregnancy at all with all the worry Sad

SquirtlesMumAgain · 23/02/2019 22:11

Wonderful news. So glad she is OK!

Jenfur · 24/02/2019 08:28

@Wineandchoccy What a relief! Awful that you had such a worrying pregnancy because of it though. Did they have a reason that it happened?

Wineandchoccy · 24/02/2019 08:41

No reason at all just one of those things which can occur. The consultant said as technology has got better they pick more of these kind of soft markers up and often there is no cause and no issues at birth.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 24/02/2019 09:11

I guess I would really much rather they picked something up that could be ruled out than it was missed for 5 years or something and by that time was a bit late to do anything about the issue, for example.

Can't work out what is going on with baby at the mo. Last night she was moving but not in the same big kicks way as before and this morning is similar. She is definitely wriggling in there but less so than recently.
They were so forceful at the last growth scan about change in movements I don't know if I'm over thinking it now!

BadBadBeans · 24/02/2019 09:17

I've lost track of the thread again!

@Wineandchoccy Lois is gorgeous. I'm so glad the soft marker turned out to be nothing.

Regarding extra packed bags, I really would at least show your partner where your comfy knickers / bras / nursing gear / newborn clothes are kept just in case you have an extended stay. I was in for nearly a week with DS and it was annoying having to describe exactly whereabouts in which drawer DH needed to look to find certain garments! I have made life easier for myself this time by clearing my wardrobe of everything but maternity gear! Although hopefully we won't be in as long. And make sure they understand what a maternity pad is, and that a panty liner is NOT it!

I'm on countdown to C-section now with less than 3 weeks to go. My tummy is suddenly covered with stretchmarks radiating from my belly button! Ah well. I'm still worrying about my slightly odd nipple and am dithering about whether to go back to the doctor for a third time. I will get my genetic test results in a week and if I am positive for a BRCA fault I think I will have to ask to be referred to the breast clinic about it as otherwise I will definitely keep worrying... But then the appointment may not come until just after the baby is born! The main thing I am being reassured by is that the offending part of the nipple doesn't seem to be growing, and it's been there for 8 weeks now so I would have thought that if it were cancerous I would be seeing some more radical changes. Plus I have seen two separate GPs about it!

Wineandchoccy · 24/02/2019 09:48

@BadBadBeans agree with the showing Other halves where things are. It was so hot on the induction ward DH nipped home for a shower and I wanted a t shirt and a book bringing back with him honestly it would have been easier explaining the meaning of life than where they were in the house Grin

CaseofEllen · 24/02/2019 10:53

@SquirtlesMumAgain if you're unsure I would contact MW or triage. It's better to be safe than sorry! My movements definitely changed from being big thumps to slow rolls, have to really focus on them now but I have been up hospital 3 times in two weeks for reduced movements. Midwives always say they'd rather see you and everything is okay than see you too late! (Not that I think anything is wrong, just a good idea to reassure yourself xx).

I feel like I'm possibly overestimating DP with these comments about showing where extra clothes etc are πŸ˜‚ I think he knows all of this but maybe I will lay a few bits out in spare room so he can just grab and go if needed!!

A question about dreams.. the last 3 nights mine have all been about labour. Sometimes not very nice Sad last night I dreamt about my baby though, not just a random baby if that makes sense. What he will look like, smell like etc. Anyone else having really vivid dreams at this point? Xx

SquirtlesMumAgain · 24/02/2019 12:37

Dreams are quite common I think @caseofEllen. I had one very vivid one DS wanted to start nursing again when DD arrived! Very strange as he hasn't fed for over a year now!

Am at the hospital, trace was "Normal" but because of the risk factors waiting for a registrar to give the OK for me to go. Obviously she has woken up now and is doing proper movements - maybe she was facing my back earlier. The midwife couldn't even feel her head as it was so low!
Just heard my first Labour scream.... Eek!!!

I think with our lovely other halves it isn't their inadequacy but the fact they are thinking about so many other things and where things are (and if it is exactly what we asked for!) isn't very high on their list of worries! I know DH has said many times that in those first couple of days he was just almost in shock!

HidCat · 24/02/2019 14:36

@Wineandchoccy so glad it was nothing in the end.

@SquirtlesMumAgain mines the same, she turns around and the movements change to being hard to feel then turns back a few days later and it's like Alien with all the movements out front. I just try to take time to pay attention as much as I can. Glad you've been checked though.

Felt rough as anything with a cold this morning. DH has been fab though and let me get a nap whilst he sorted lunch and now feeling a bit more normal. Hopefully it will clear before labour kicks in!

BadBadBeans · 24/02/2019 15:03

@CaseofEllen I have been having incredibly vivid dreams - some lovely and some downright horrible! Last night I dreamed I had been accidentally feeding DS rather than the new baby (interestingly along the same lines as you @SquirtlesMumAgain). In the run up to having DS I dreamed I went to work and left him at home and only realised at the end of the work day that he would have been all alone with nobody to feed him. I'm sure it's just my brain preparing me for the fact that I am going to be responsible for looking after a helpless little being but it's a horrid thing to dream about!

Gronk27 · 24/02/2019 17:58

'And make sure they understand what a maternity pad is, and that a panty liner is NOT it!' Quote of the week.

You've made me realise I'm having not very nice dreams, I rarely remember dreams but I had particularly nasty one about my brother (who I am a bit stressed about|).

My DH wouldn't know the difference between big pants or maternity bras, etc. Which top would be a comfy one, etc! I've packed all those in a tote to go in the car as extras and some nipples pads, maternity pads, extra cotton wool, nursing PJs, leggings, spare baby clothes and nappies.

Been blitzing the bedroom today in preparation for that being where she'll spend a lot of time and sleep (hopefully haha!) DH keeps telling me not to do too much but I just want it done, so have probably pushed myself so then felt guilty and had a weep because I apologised to baby but also said I just want it clean haha! DH got me tea and toast to cheer me up. Having a rest now.

@badbadbeans what have the GPs said when you've been to see them? Would going again change anything? Put your mind at ease?

Wineandchoccy · 24/02/2019 19:37

Dd had her heel prick and 5 day check today they do it at the birthing centre and there was a lady in labour then we heard a little baby cry I wanted to join in, bloody hormones Blush

SquirtlesMumAgain · 24/02/2019 20:46

Awww better the baby crying than the labour screams! Interesting they didn't come to you @wineandchoccy

Wineandchoccy · 24/02/2019 21:11

@SquirtlesMumAgain They started doing it this way about 12 months ago they said they were having lots of repeats due to lack of hygiene in some homes Sad
