Sorry, can't think of a more exciting title!

Such a chatty bunch that we're racking up the threads now. Can anyone share the link for the Google Docs spreadsheet? The one I tried didn't work.

Thanks!

I don't have Facebook so that won't be happening. DH does but he doesn't want to put many pictures on.

RoseBud2016 · 01/02/2019 11:44

Reeny19 I don’t think it’s extreme. I know quite a few Mums who feel the same.
I do use Whatsapp to share some pics with grandparents and my best friend.
As you say, although it’s not entirely secure, it’s a lot more private than Facebook.

Yukka · 01/02/2019 11:45

@beckybutterfly love the disposable camera idea - we're much more 'physical photo' people too and have a couple of photo walls in our house. We'll have to do that.

@Reeny19 my DH is always saying what a shame it is that no-one prints photos anymore and he's right, social media takes over and everything is just expected. I've had to loose a few friends because of their total obsession with posting food photos and selfies . . . I mean bad like 'here's a picture of me, and here's one of the other side of my face, and me again, and me with a tree, and me in the car, and me eating food, and me on the train . . . .'

But then I'd go back to the 1980's any day of the week . . .forget all the tech I'm happy making rose petal perfume, mud pies, home made ice pops, long cold winters, imagining going on holiday in space in 2020 and belting Chesney Hawkes out as loud as I could. I know, I'm a nostalgic saddo :) I accept it!

BeckyButterfly · 01/02/2019 11:50

@Yukka I love physical photos, my house is covered in them!

I agree with @Reeny19 about growing up with loads of photos of yourself online. It’s bad enough when they get to an age where they post non-stop pictures of themselves (my 11 year old sister is never off Insta!) without having had their whole childhood documented on there too.

I know someone who recently had a baby and posts at least 10 photos a day! I just think it takes the surprise out of things for your family as well.

reeny19 · 01/02/2019 12:10

It’s not just taking the surprise out of it it’s also opening up a whole can of worms for the future. A friend of mine has 1000s of images and vids of her daughter online, all publicly searchable via certain hash tags. Ugly photos, cute photos, half naked photos, every doctor’s appointment....

I mean, what about other kids at school finding all that when they’re older? Massive ammo for cyber bullying there.

I think there was a case of an 18year old who sued her parents for breach of privacy for putting photos online and not removing them at her request..... good on ya girl!

Capybaras · 01/02/2019 12:12

Oh I love the disposable camera idea too - we took some to Glastonbury a few years ago and the pics were awesome! Got all the funny moments that someone would usually make you delete because they looked fat/ugly/drunk etc etc!

Yeah there's definitely far too much overshare but the odd pic I'm happy to do!

@BeckyButterfly omg do we have the same friend? She had her baby about 2 weeks ago now and genuinely posts at least a dozen pics a day. I know you're so proud of what you've created but it's overkill!

It was payday yesterday so I may have to invest in those dungarees - try them out at least. Plus with dungas you don't have the annoying jeans/tights/leggings pulling up scenario!

Capybaras · 01/02/2019 12:14

@reeny19 I'd be so worried about who else has access to those pictures if I were the parents! Like you said the poor child when they grow up will have had no privacy. It's funny seeing physical photos in an album of yourself in the bath as a child etc because you know they're only for you/family to see. But on social media where anyone can screenshot/save pictures it's got to be a worry. Never even thought of the bullying aspect!

BeckyButterfly · 01/02/2019 12:16

@Capybaras I feel the same about excessive photos of babies! The girl I know had hers at the end of December and she puts a photo on every week with one of those milestones cards to say it is a week older!!

We said the same thing about disposable cameras. There are some corkers from our wedding. They are hilarious!

Definitely go for the dungarees then let me know what they are like 😆

BeckyButterfly · 01/02/2019 12:17

This is a particular favourite from the disposable collect. Me and my best friend! 😂

reeny19 · 01/02/2019 12:26

I love the grainy look of disposables! Retro and also they don’t show up every imperfection like the high detailed digital photos of today 😆

The amount of massive spots I’ve got on my face atm is ridiculous! No selfies for me.

ReginaPhalange89 · 01/02/2019 12:49

I get not wanting your kid plastered all over social media but I personally do put photos on mine. Not loads, but I have done a pregnancy announcement and there are plenty of pics of my girls on my FB. Only people who are friends with me can see them though, I don't make mine public.

I do keep thinking to myself I'm going to have loads printed and start keeping photo albums, I've hardly any actual prints at all! Just all on my phone.

I miss the days of disposable cameras ! We used to take them out clubbing when we just turned 18 , those days were good! We'd not care what we looked like, wear the same outfits near enough every week. These days people don't seem to he able to go out without plastering themselves all over Instagram! It's all about what you're wearing and what fancy place you've gone to 🙄

ReginaPhalange89 · 01/02/2019 12:50

But yeah I do have the odd Facebook friend who has naked videos of their kids on and posts 100 times a day ... Bit much !

BeckyButterfly · 01/02/2019 13:06

Oh I put loads of photos on Facebook and Instragam normally but I am trying to cut back. I just feel like my whole life revolves around it and I don’t want that for my little one. So I have made the decision to reduce my usage of it. It’s like an addiction 😂 my best friend keeps telling me that she won’t be my friend anymore if I post loads of photos of the baby!

reeny19 · 01/02/2019 13:25

@beckybutterfly I like your friend! 😆

I also want to cut back on phone/tablet internet usage. I hate the addiction to it, keeping looking at it all the time. I wouldn’t want my child to be addicted to a device but unless me and DH cut back on our own usage we won’t have a leg to stand on - if we’re seen using it we can’t restrict screen time for the child.

So I guess I have 6 months to cut the addiction. Would be nice to switch off and disconnect tbh.

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 01/02/2019 13:34

@Jxtina86 @BeckyButterfly @Yukka @Kentishgal @Capybaras
It's really nice to hear that we are in the same situation. I thought after 12 weeks it would be less stressful but I'm still worried. Mainly focusing on countdown to the 20 week scan now.

@Jxtina86 the gas. OMG. I'm in shock at the power and volume of it BlushShock

BeckyButterfly · 01/02/2019 14:04

@ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts I feel no less stressed and worried after my scan! I went to see my consultant because I have an anxiety disorder and she asked me if the 12 week scan had made me feel better and I said yes, for a day or so!

She has booked me in for a reassurance scan next week because I think she realised I was driving myself insane! I’ll be 16 weeks then so it’ll be 4 weeks after that for my 20 week. I feel like it breaks the wait up a little. Fingers crossed all is okay!

Capybaras · 01/02/2019 14:25

@ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts I think because I heard the baby's heartbeat this week and am starting to feel movement it has lessened my anxiety a bit.

Although still worried about there being something wrong at the 20 week scan.

Don't think it helped that I watched that hospital programme on bbc last night - I'd advise not to watch if you're particularly anxious.

BeckyButterfly · 01/02/2019 14:49

Completely off topic but has anyone started thinking about plans yet? I’ve been having a look and it’s a complete minefield! They range from less than £100 to £1500 which is just crazy. I want a decent one; sturdy, safe, easy to use and fold down to go in the car but I don’t really want to pay £1000 😩

Capybaras · 01/02/2019 15:08

I got really confused then, thinking plans? What plans?!

We're going to go try some out once we've had our 20 weeks scan, but I've heard good things about the bugaboo. Want one that's good for being out and about a lot, as I want to take baby for lots of walks across different terrains! Also want one that's good quality and will hopefully last for subsequent babies if we're lucky enough to have them! It's shocking how expensive they are though in general. If we see a good quality one second hand them will be more than happy to go for it! What about you?

BirthdayKake · 01/02/2019 15:11

@Capybaras I thought the same 😂

We'll also be going after the 20 week scan, but I like what I've heard about the Oyster...

BeckyButterfly · 01/02/2019 15:32

Sorry guys, I did indeed mean prams! My phone refuses to allow me to type prams. It has changed it to plans, pranks and proms so far!
I’ve been looking at the Ickle Bubba one, the new Stomp V4 but I definitely need to go and try them out in a shop. I’m not buying yet, just wanting to get some kind of idea.

Yukka · 01/02/2019 15:36

took me a minute to understand . . .:)
we've had a look, its a minefield. I've seen some car seats now come in new born - 4yrs old so you'd only have to buy one, but then have to debate the whole travel system malarky.

Seems like we deff need the carry cot part of a pram for up to 6 months but then normal after that?

My sis has the whole lot - fixed base car seat compatible with pram base with carry cot and normal pram, cost about a £1000.

BeckyButterfly · 01/02/2019 15:39

@Yukka yeah, I’ve found a nice looking car seat which is supposed to be birth to 4 years. Then a lot of the prams I’ve looked at can be bought with car seat adapters to fit different car seats rather than buying the whole travel system. I worry about the car seats in the travel systems because I want to make sure my car seat is super safe.

SnailorSwift · 01/02/2019 16:05

@BeckyButterfly we have our pram from DS so will just use it again as it was fab! It was pricey though!
I suggest going to lots of different shops as different places will stock different brands and trying them all - best way to find out what you like/don't like and narrow down which features you don't want to compromise on!

BeckyButterfly · 01/02/2019 16:17

@SnailorSwift thank you for the advice, that is what I was thinking of doing 😊 hopefully it’ll all become clear when I actually see and feel them!
