@chocpop I had this a few weeks ago - quite a lot of wet discharge and underwear etc more wet than usual. Have no reason to think it was anything else and not having it now. It’s so hard to say though as not Yakadee response so maybe give them a call

Yakadee · 23/01/2019 16:04

It's defo worth a call just to rule it out.

I remember when I called to tell them what was going on and she made it my decision to go in or not, was so glad I did as it was!

It might just be something and nothing but at least you'll know x

Anyone else got a phobia of the dentist!
I was eating an apple and some of my tooth has chipped away!! Dentist book for when I start maternity leave but I am already dreading it

Wear a pad and then bring it in. Mine didn’t go until I was already in labour but it started as ‘wet’ and then went suddenly. Best to get checked just in case.

Mine went in a small damp patch on the sofa with dd. When I went to get something to clean it up they full on went all over the kitchen floor (at least that was wipe clean!). This was all before any kind of contractions.

This talk of waters breaking is worrying! I know shouldn’t be worried as it happens but it’s just weird and difficult to plan for! Pleased I’m finishing work this Friday as wouldn’t want waters to break in the office!! 😂

It’s only something like 10% women who have waters go before contractions / labour starts so I wouldn’t worry too much!

I blame films and TV! They aways have dramatic water-breaking scenes in public places and it's always very spectacular. My midwife said that's actually pretty rare and a lot of the time you can get to hospital and still not have your waters gone.

However, I did read once that if your waters go in certain stores, they'll send you a gift box. So I might just lurk around supermarkets...

I know it's fairly rare for waters to break first. Did anyone have their waters break first for one child but not for the next? I'm carrying around pads and knickers just in case now as I was one of the 10% last time. Just over a week left in work. Bit scary to think that I'll be 39 weeks when I finish and will have another baby soon.

@powkin regarding your cat I would wait to see what happens. I say this as my parents had a very vicious cat who would draw blood out of people who were trying to feed him. Regularly attacked my dad and was just a bit evil.......
When I was born however he would sit quietly nearby, never scratched me and apparently as a toddler I used to drape him around my neck.......
Animals also pick up on scent changes in people which we wouldn't be able to which is probably why he's behaving differently.

@Celebelly - I've heard that too! Really kind considering you've just ruined their floor lol.

Although my waters trickled and I was induced because of it, they still had to break my waters. It was SO much too. I then went for a walk around to help bring on the contractions and it went again! I was sat in the reception area of the hospital (early hours thank goodness!) and the force was so much it went up my top and soaked me! Was actually pretty funny. Had to just waddle back to the ward and asked them to send someone to clean it up - oops! X

Place marking!

Funnily enough I used Veet down there today, was quite pleased with the result seeing as I can't actually see under my belly!

I don't know whether to get a new Perfect Prep machine. I'm hoping to BF for longer this time but I will definitely be using formula at some point so want to use it. DH has replaced the filter in our old one and done a test run, cleaned the inside etc. It seems to be working fine, but I'm just a bit paranoid as it hasn't been used in well over two years (and was bought end of 2015)...

Anyone have any thoughts?

How are people with dogs planning on introducing baby?

I've got a very gentle but nutty working cocker, and she will be mega mega curious! Was planning just to go inside with baby in car seat and sit on sofa and let doggy come to us and have a sniff. She's been around babies before and is great with kids, but this will be first time there's one in our house!

If we're in for longer I'm going to send DP home with a blanket with baby's scent on it, but we won't really be able to do that if we're discharged within the six hours they aim for for a straightforward birth as we're about an hour from the hospital in the first place.

Report
twiglet · 23/01/2019 18:24

@Celebelly DH was going to get greet ours first as she can be a bit boundy at first with a blanket that smells of baby and me then I was going to come in with car seat but put on the floor so she can smell without bounding up. She knows the command gently and just give her a fuss loads of praise until she gets bored/goes elsewhere.

Report
Celebelly · 23/01/2019 18:28

Yes, ours can be a bit bouncy and will be if we've been out for a number of hours for sure as she gets so excited when we come home (even if we've just gone to take the bin out...)! Good shout to send DP in first so she can get her bounces over and done with – he's the rough and tumble guy too so she's always a bit more boisterous with him!

I'm actually looking forward to them meeting and the start of a new friendship!

@Lookingforadvice123 - we're reusing ours, my son is nearly 3. I've cleaned / sterilised it twice (Google it, there's a video) and got a new filter x

Thanks everyone for the advice! I rang the FAU and they advised I put a pad on and just kept an eye on it. So I think everything's all okay for today, anyway :)

Yakadee we've decided against it after taking it apart at the back, you know the little clear tubes? It looks like there may be mould in one, there's the tiniest little black dots. Can't be sure if it is mould but can't be sure it isn't, and we can't see how to take the pipe off to clean/check. Luckily they were £60 in Asda! Still annoying though.

Yakadee · 23/01/2019 19:46

@Lookingforadvice123 - I'd do the same if I found that though, don't blame you. Thankfully mine looks OK.

@chocpop - glad you called, always worth just double checking x

@Celebelly with our first I read up on it and it advised to put baby things like the bouncer and Moses basket or car seat in the room before baby arrives so the pet can get used to it.

Then when we came home OH let them smell a muslin we'd used and then after a while when they were calmer we put the baby in the Moses basket and let them smell.

Does anyone else have very sore nipples? Mine feel hot (both of them) and really irritated. My boobs are sore anyway but my nipples feel like they are burning!
