Lots of baby impending soon signs on this thread today! So exciting :)

Getting forever more impatient as each day passes, but only 9 days until my due date now. Today's symptoms have just been the usual that I've had the last two weeks (random period-like crampy pains, little pains at the top of my bump (both come and go and aren't that sore), sore back (but I've had that the whole pregnancy), and so on. Just patiently waiting on the real thing!

I just can't get my head around the fact that within 2 weeks or so, I'll be a first time mum. I just can't wait to meet her gets emosh

@chocpop - that's so cute! It really is amazing! My son is the best thing that's ever happened to me (until my daughter arrives next week!) - you'll love it x

Hello everyone!

I’ve been very very absent from these threads I’m afraid but just checked back in to see that the babies have started arriving already! Warmest congratulations to @welshweasel and the others on your gorgeous new bundles! Love the names you’ve all chosen too.

I’m nearly 37 weeks now with #3 (girl #2) and feeling no twinges whatsoever, nada. She’s not engaged at all either. Hope I’m not in for a very long wait still!

Does the baby being engaged mean anything? Midwife said today (36+1) that head is 2/5th engaged. I can't remember if it means anything or nothing, and google isn't helping! I know that second babies can sometimes not engage until the last minute.

I'm not desperate for the baby to come early, but any time around the due date would be great, rather than overdue!

37 weeks today and been told I have gestational diabetes, even though I had the gtt at 28weeks and results were fine! Also being monitored for High blood pressure every couple of days at the hospital as it was high at the weekend. Saw the consultant today who said they won't let me go overdue in case baby gets too big which means one way or another I'll see my little one in the next 3 weeks! All very scary and real now, still got another week of work haha

I wondered if anyone might know this one, I never thought to ask for some reason.

When I went for my pre - assessment today, the anesthetist asked to look in my mouth - does anyone know why? X

Notquiteagandt · 24/01/2019 20:00

@Yakadee loose teeth and fillings. Last op I had the pipe knocked out one of my fillings 😡 so I ashume thats why.

Report
Yakadee · 24/01/2019 20:11

@Notquiteagandt - ah OK. That makes sense. I do have two fillings (from years ago) he didn't ask me though so not sure if he'd have spotted them? Should I tell them? X

Notquiteagandt · 24/01/2019 20:45

@Yakadee I would ashume thats why he looked. As tbh I couldnt say what teeth have what on. So I think be easier for someone else to just take a quick peep. So imagine thats why he asked to look.

Otherwise its just a bit odd 😂

welshweasel · 24/01/2019 20:46

@yakadee it’s not to look at your teeth (they ask you about loose teeth, caps and crowns), it’s to assess how easy/difficult it would be to intubate you (put a breathing tube down) in the unlikely event you needed a general anaesthetic.

Thanks both. That makes sense - I hope they don't have to! X

Does anyone else find baby's movements really painful? Not all the time but sometimes it takes my breath away when he wriggles! I don't remember that with my daughter.

Mu stomach is much firmer this time so I'm assuming that's why. But sometimes it's so uncomfortable I just want to yell 'get out of me'

Report
Surprisedmom · 24/01/2019 23:31

@AvoidingMarking I definitely find it uncomfortable at times. He’s got a good kick and really digs into my ribs sometimes, but I also find the movements when he’s turning can feel like a lot of pressure and sometimes slightly nausea inducing (a bit like the feeling you get when going up in a lift).

Very annoyed that I didn’t manage to pee without waking the cat. He was being super weird and insistent so then had to switch on lights and feed him which has of course woken me up properly now (I usually pee in the almost dark with just the sky light to try and help me get back to sleep!)

All the second time mums are all awake at this time already I suppose, my job (did!) start at 9.30 so have always had a later schedule!

36 week scan is today, and having a second farewell at work with whole office, team one was last night. Going to miss everyone loads :( they got me a voucher for a massage but the card was the nicest but with all the messages. Made me very emotional! Really love those weirdos!

Report
Yakadee · 25/01/2019 06:12

@AvoidingMarking - yes! She moves a lot during the day but her most painful moves are on an evening when I'm relaxing. Feels like she's trying to bust out!! X

@powkin - yep I am 😩 - I don't get up before 6am though (unless my son is upset etc) so have had a lovely chorus of 'mummy' on and off since 5:30am! That's so sweet about your work friends. I really didn't enjoy my existing job so have to say I wasn't too bothered about leaving, I did make some lovely friends I'll miss though x

@powkin - also, hope scan goes well x

Thanks @Yakadee - I gave up after 30 mins and got up. If only the radio wasn’t brexit brexit brexit!

I have been worried about the scan, like I might have missed something and there’s something wrong, like her movements decreasing (she’s not had much of a pattern recently but is still very active), or there’s something that wouldn’t have been picked up on a scan earlier that’ll now be obvious and there’s nothing that can be done. Hopefully that last bit of anxiety can be dispelled today!

Report
Yakadee · 25/01/2019 07:41

@powkin - It's so hard not to worry, even though really you can be 99% sure everything is OK it just has a way of creeping in. I'm sure your mind will be put at ease soon! What time is your scan?

Also, Brexit - yawn! X

@Yakadee - 3pm - they are always prompt so hopefully not waiting. We are going for nice lunch with MIL before so that should distract me a bit. I haven’t been anxious until the last week or so, the closer it has gotten the more it has played on my mind. One of my closest friend’s brother just had their second child and it was born profoundly deaf, so I know there’s still things they can’t know until it’s out and so there’s not much point fretting, it’s coming out either way and we’ll deal with it.

Yakadee · 25/01/2019 07:53

@powkin - good to have something to keep you busy. I totally get where you're coming from with the worry. I suppose though, no amount of worrying will change what already is, and everything is certainly in our favour for all to be OK x

@powkin I think it's normal to be anxious. I sure am!!

Also I know you mentioned patterns.. I've never had a pattern and my midwife said as long as you still feel regular movement don't panic. Their routine changes in there like it would out here once they get bigger. Mine also changed when I finished work because I relaxed and ate and different times etc xx

Is anyone else trying for a VBAC? I was convinced I’d had a ELCS and even had one booked in for next Thurs at 39+2 but have had a complete change of heart and am now going to see what happens if things progress naturally. First baby was planned CS due to being breech so labour will be a completely new experience.

Good luck with the scan @powkin

I’m enjoying a breakfast of Roquefort and Brie on crusty bread, delicious! My toddler was awake before the baby this morning - I miss the lazy mornings you get when you have your first baby!
