Congratulations @Yakadee ! What a gorgeous baby girl. Hope you're feeling ok after the blood loss.

@detachablehoof have a read of what it says about how long you can use the bottles you bought once they're open. Your baby won't have a full bottle but there are usually time restrictions. I can't help with how many sorry as I only ff after leaving hospital but another option could be to take a big Tupperware container/foldable camping sink (we used ours loads when travelling), some of your usual bottles and Milton liquid or tablets. That way, all the hospital would need to provide would be cold water and you'd have sterilised bottles in 15 mins. Obviously that would be easier if you have some small bottles but it could work.

lanalawr · 29/01/2019 16:34

Sorry @detachablehoof that sounds really garbled when I read it back. The box your bottles are in should have advice on how long they can be stored once opened. Is there a pharmacy or supermarket in or near your hospital where your partner or a visitor could pick up more if you needed them?

powkin · 29/01/2019 16:39

@AmberRose17 I’m at Homerton but it’s definitely the same study. They were pretty reticent to pay travel expenses even though it says you can claim them in the research information - I think that’s a bit cheeky with heavily pregnant women - not everyone lives right round the corner!

I guess I have had some symptoms like oedema that certainly isn’t getting better as time goes on (probably normal) and pain in ribs (probably just babies feet). I’ve had a few occasions with slightly high BP but only earlier on when I was rushing to the appointments by power walking! (a distant memory!). That and my protein have been fine otherwise.

I think I’m the opposite in I thought the extra check ups might reassure me a bit, especially the scan and the checks after, and it looks like if you get the drug then it does do a lot of good (from earlier phases of the trial research), but I definitely agree that it’s a big ask at this point and it’s a pain - literally - for me to keep going to the hospital. I’m surprised they don’t offer to travel to the homes of women if all they are doing is BP and bloods at the first visit.

Thanks for saying about the 1 in 6 chance thing - that’s much more reassuring than ‘high risk’!

detachablehoof · 29/01/2019 17:04

@lanalawr no that all made sense :) think I will just get a bunch more of the disposable bottles to keep in the car as a backup and we can always use the milk in regular bottles once we get home! They are quite expensive but I'd rather not have to send my husband out shopping!

Surprisedmom · 29/01/2019 17:25

Congrats @Emalady and @yakadee on your little ones arriving!

AmberRose17 · 29/01/2019 17:55

@powkin that’s interesting that they’re doing the same study. And yes, if you’re a bit worried about it anyway the extra monitoring could be a good reassurance. I hear you about travel to the hospital. My quality of life has improved immeasurably since I stopped commuting!

Yes the only time my blood pressure was on the high side was when I got a call from the nursery moments before my MW appointment saying that my 3yo was having a febrile convulsion and they’d called the ambulance. Not a surprise really!

Good luck with it and I obviously hope you don’t develop PE but if you do you’re in safe hands!

emalady · 29/01/2019 20:09

@yakadee congratulations! Beautiful little girl and lovely classic name.

@maxiflump glad they are bringing your section forward, hope you feel OK until Friday.

My refux and nausea has gone completely straight away after having Maddie so there is an end in sight.

Lookingforadvice123 · 29/01/2019 20:45

Congratulations yakadee she's such a beauty!!! Hope you're all doing well.

Yakadee · 29/01/2019 21:33

Hi everyone, thanks for all the lovely messages. Emma is doing fab, seems very settled and just had a lovely big feed. Hoping we'll be home tomorrow, all checks have been good / normal but they'll just do a blood check in the morning to just double check I don't need a transfusion after the blood loss. X

hayley013 · 29/01/2019 21:48

Congratulations @Yakadee she is sooo cute!! Love her name and glad all is looking well, fingers crossed for you both getting home tomorrow xxx

twiglet · 29/01/2019 22:08

Sad my PGP pain ramped up a gear tonight in agony and only on day 2 of mat leave!

Not sure if it's because I was less active - usually I get a cup of tea/have a break from my desk every 45mins or so or if its because I'm 39 weeks.....

Even my bath isn't helping Sad

powkin · 29/01/2019 22:24

@twiglet mine too - since yesterday - and I’m not even 37 weeks yet! I find it especially hard to initiate movements. It took me about 10 minutes to get off the floor after wanting to lie on a mat with my feet raised. I will be fascinated to see if, when and how all the water dissipates. I wish they’d weigh you with the fancy scales that measures how much is water!

Love all the talk about active labour and walking around and blah blah blah, given how little I want to move now it’s hard to imagine how much worse it’ll be when actually in labour!

AliceRR · 29/01/2019 22:33

@twiglet Oh dear. I usually find mine is worse when I’ve been more active or on my feet more. It’s the worst at night when I turn over in bed. Sometimes the pain is quite intense and I wonder whether I’ll be able to walk in the morning but it’s short lived. It could just be cause your bump is getting bigger.

I’d say rest more but sounds like that might not help. Do you have an exercise ball? I haven’t used mine loads but have found it helps a bit with some aches and pains and also it’s easy to stand up from sitting on it

AvoidingMarking · 29/01/2019 22:37

Congratulations @Yakadee.

36 weeks today and I am over being pregnant. 2 more weeks of work and it can't go by quickly enough!

twiglet · 29/01/2019 23:03

@AliceRR I've not been on my ball today wonder if that's contributing. I'm struggling to get off it without DHs help if sat as I have a huge bump (tall baby) and it throws my balance off

twiglet · 30/01/2019 02:06

Well I may or may not make it into February....... Just had my "show" (every time I say that I want to do jazz hands...) and have cramps. No sign of contractions might explain my pain earlier.....

bubblybrit · 30/01/2019 04:08

Thinking about you @twiglet! Sounds promising.....hope baby is on their way for you x

twiglet · 30/01/2019 04:13

@bubblybrit thanks contractions started and then stopped again. Leaving my DH to sleep not sure if I should say to him about staying home from work..... His office is only 10 minutes walk away Confused

Yakadee · 30/01/2019 05:43

@twiglet - good luck, hope it sticks and you soon have baby,

X

hayley013 · 30/01/2019 07:34

How many weeks are you @twiglet ? Hope you managed to get some sleep x

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 30/01/2019 08:11

I’ve had literally no signs that anything is even remotely beginning to happen...

I’ve still two weeks to go till due date, but I reckon this one’s going to follow suit and be at least a week late...

twiglet · 30/01/2019 09:27

@hayley013 I'm 38+6 weeks. I managed a few hours of sleep the few contractions I had have gone. More plug went this morning.
Still got cramps but nothing further sent DH to work this morning he looked anxious but given how close his office is I didn't see much point!

bubblybrit · 30/01/2019 09:37

@twiglet. I think you did the right thing regarding DH. My DH local office is about 10-15 mins away and he will continue to work from there over the next few weeks. No way is he working at his head office as that’s about 1.5 hours away. He needs to be there today and Friday but I have no signs as yet so feeling ok about him being further away x

Notquiteagandt · 30/01/2019 10:00

Today is the day...eeeekkkk

I am rediculously excited to start things off.

Although theres thick snow here so my appointments been pushed back 2 hours whilst they clear through beds. Going to be hard to keep patient whilst waiting. Im clawing the walls already.

mummymummymummummum · 30/01/2019 10:18

@detachablehoof Another option for sterilising is microwave bags. NICU at Rosie Hospital (Addenbrookes) gave one to all pumping mums and sold us more, so I trust them! You basically pop in all your washed bottle bits along with a small amount of water. Seal the ziplock and put in the microwave. Really easy! But maybe check the post natal ward has a microwave!
