Hello everyone, I am not even going to try and remember what everyone said as my brain is too tired to try!

Hope those who have been having aches and pains are feeling a little better.

for those who had scares although I am glad to hear that they turned out to be false alarms. I had just said to DH that I haven't felt much movement today and was convinced that LO was just having a quiet day, but after reading all your posts about better be safe than sorry I am now beginning to worry a bit Hopefully this little one will start wriggling when I get up and go to bed.

lisad123 · 04/07/2007 23:14

hi polar, I find little one tends to move more when im laying flat in bed, maybe try that, or a cold drink. Im worryig today too, just feeling rough and having a few pains, but trying to stay calm as LO is moving.

Hope your ok.

I really like the look of the hug a bub slings but so £££ and not many in uk ebay.

Hugs

alicet · 05/07/2007 07:16

Polar I hope your lo started wriggling away. But if not I think its worth getting them checked over. If youre like me that will be all thats needed to wake them up! Fingers crossed for you...

TheLadyEvenstar · 05/07/2007 07:52

Lisa,
I got all these things from other peoples offers. My DP wasn't in agreeance at first but he knows me lol guess he and I lived diff lives before we met. He wants to spend out on all new and I said I don't see the point as we both know from experience how expensive things are for babies. But he kinda forgot with his eldest being 22 and youngest being 13 1/2.

Anyway after he took me to get the clothes and saw them he was happier with the idea. So now he plodding along being an obedient DP.
OOppsss spelling i think.

muppetgirl · 05/07/2007 08:29

Morning all, have just spent 10 mins wondering why my maternity cords form b/m weren't fitting properly....
...then found I had them on backwards so had to re-dress myself.

moring all!

inzi def have a try at getting the reduced price for teh carrycot,it says on the website its reduced and if your not getting it til october i dont see why they wont reduce it for you.if you ring and they say no threaten to cancel the whole order, that might work!glad to hear that im not the only one being sick, not glad that you are but you know what i mean!i was getting worried as to why its suddenly started again.havent been sick yet today, but started feeling queasy when i was brushing my teeth!!

was it lisa that said about the glucose tolerance test?im having mine on the 30th july.mine, the consultant said,is needed as my bmi was high when i first got pg,but i should think its gone down now as ive lost a stone whilst pg!but no one has mentioned it (my bmi) since my booking visit.my friedn had it done when she was expecting and she has told me its not pleasant, but to drink the glucose slowly and try not to taste it.she said if you try to drink it quick it can make you sick.she also said to take some magazines with me as your sat there for 2 hours between having blood done.im terrified of needles aswell and they always have trouble getting some,so im probably going to have an aneasthetits do mine.

cant remember who said about nuts, but i thought it was just peanuts to stay away from when pg?my mw told me once to eat brazil nuts and walnuts (think it was walnuts aswell cant remember, was years ago) as they are good for you when pg.dont know why!

who said theyve been eating dippy eggs????!!!i have been craving them but my dh point blankly refuses to let me have one!!i thought id try it when my friend was here last week and dh was away, but she grabbed the eggs off me and told me to step away from the yolks!!!im going to seriously pig out on runny eggs when lo arrives!!!

hi to everyone else, sorry i cant remember what everyones said!!!

Apricott · 05/07/2007 09:36

pmsl at back to front maternity trousers !

Polar - hope lo has given you some reassuring kicks.

Hazelnuts - yes you can eat them, and almond, pecans, cashews ... (I should know, I'm a law lecturer !). Peanuts are the only ones I've ever seen pg women warned against, and they're not even technically nuts at all.

Mumpbump · 05/07/2007 10:06

Morning all! Glad to see everyone doing well.

Muppet - the wrap around one did start to hurt by back as ds got heavier, but I found moving the material down from the small of my back so it sat over my bum instead cured it. It is just so easy to use and very snug for ds plus you can carry a child up to some stupid weight so can use it for 3-4 year olds, if you're mad enough to want to!

I'm eating nuts. There is no allergy in either dh's family nor mine and I did hear on some programme that they were now saying you should eat peanuts whilst pg to avoid allergies - don't take my word for it though as pg brain is a bit fuzzy, to say the least...

Just found out that my mobile (which I though I had mislaid at home in May) has had calls made on it in June/July so it looks like someone has appropriated it! Fortunately, the bill is only about £13, but I can't believe it! There was me thinking that I was just being absent-mindedly pg and it turns out that someone lifted it! Bit p*ssed off, as you can imagine...

Anyway, warned dh this morning that I will be entering the "third trimester" next Monday - it was a bit of a joke when I was pg with ds - and that I might therefore need more help and support as I was feeling a lot more tired this time. He said (as I joke, I think) "what's in it for me" to which my answer was "a little baby in about 3 months time!". Cheeky sod!

Pheebe · 05/07/2007 10:17

Just sat staring at my hazelnut chocolate for 10 mins and just can't bring myself to eat it. All the what ifs...

DS and I have just made jam tarts, gonna have one of those instead

I was thinking about getting one of those wraps and doing the whole constant contact thing for the first couple of weeks at least.

MrsFish · 05/07/2007 10:29

Pheebe - Go on eat it

'It is only peanuts that should be avoided by some women - other nuts, such as brazil, hazelnuts, walnuts or cashew nuts are perfectly safe'.

linky here

MrsFish · 05/07/2007 10:32

Also at the bottom it says...

If you decide to avoid peanuts while pregnant or breastfeeding, you need to avoid not only peanuts themselves (which are also sometimes called monkey nuts or groundnuts), but also products which may contain them. These include:

? peanut butter

? cereals, cakes, muesli, biscuits, some salad dressings, ice cream, and breads - always read the packaging label carefully for information on the ingredients

? dishes in restaurants - either ask if peanuts have been included or choose a simple meal which contains no 'hidden' ingredients

I didn't know that

Mumpbump · 05/07/2007 10:35

Well, I did come across an article which says that soft slings are better for "bonding". I had already been carting ds around for a good few months by then! The best thing about the wrap sling is that it was big enough for dh to wear as well without having to make lots of adjustments - and he is 5'11" and slightly rotund - so he could carry him around and give me a break. It was a life-saver in the first few weeks as ds used to cry a lot if he wasn't being carried. Just a bit of a shock coming out of a snug warm environment into the nasty cold world!!

muppetgirl · 05/07/2007 10:38

That's a good site Mrs Fish,
mmmm......jam tarts.
Must go and make choclate mousse

Have just booked my ds in for swimming lessons (well at 3 is't more fun with water ect)

seems a little pushy but he's an outdoor boy who loves physical exercise

so i'm banashing the art stuff and all the colouring in pencils to the garage as we have had more battles than fun over them. He's not arty atm and doesn't want to be!!

OP posts:
ejt1764 · 05/07/2007 10:39

If you don't want it, Pheebe, can I have it?

I am a classic 'allergic' person ... am asthmatic, have many and varied food and drug allergies, so the advice re peanuts is aimed at people like me!

But what did I crave when I was at my pukiest? Peanut butter on toast!

Do I eat it? You bet!!

While we're on the subject, my acupuncturist told me to eat cashew nuts when I was at my pukiest, to get more protein into me!

pmsl at the back to front mat. trousers!

Well, the doula is coming to see me at 12.30 - and I'm singing in a concert in Church Village this evening - I did ask the conductor if she really wanted me singing in concerts at this point - on crutches and with really crap phrasing! But, apparently, I'm quite good ( ), and she does want me there ... they'll be doing some more filming for the new sieries of Codi Canu tonight - so I'll be able to remind myself of what a heifer I looked at this point when the next series is screened in January!

Have more school work to do today - but really can't be bothered!

hmmmmm

muppetgirl · 05/07/2007 10:39

Those slings do sound good especially as I'm slightly paranoid over keeping lo warm
-hence the crotcheting blankets/hats and scarves

OP posts:
ejt1764 · 05/07/2007 10:40

mumpbump have you got a link for a wrap sling?

Mumpbump · 05/07/2007 10:57

Here is a link to website:

little possums which stock lots of wrap slings

The Kari-me website won't let me access it at the minute, but their address is:

www.kari-me.com

It is also worth having a look for second hand slings as wrap slings are simply a piece of fabric so can't really "break". New, they cost about £40...

Apricott · 05/07/2007 11:23

Going back to the nut thing for a minute - I assiduously avoided peanuts when pg with DD and she has a peanut allergy. I suppose my point being - no matter how careful we are while they're in utero we can't predict how things will turn out once they're outa there. And if we're less 'careful' than we're advised to be by busybody government departments, we shouldn't feel it's all our fault if we end up with, say, a child with allergies. Had I eaten peanuts in pg1, I'd no doubt have blamed self for her allergy, when clearly it wasn't my fault... unless it was my fault by not eating the bloody things and thereby failing to expose her early enough. Oh heck, hope you're all following this. Not sure I am. Guess I'm trying to say the science on all this is often a bit dodgy/ advice changes over time and from country to country so we should do what we think's best but not beat ourselves up about it either now or after they're born, and Pheebe, eat your chocolate !

Apricott · 05/07/2007 11:27

ooh, I was on such a rant mission I allowed a misplaced apostrophe to slip through the net [misplaced apostrophe horror emoticon]!

Apricott · 05/07/2007 11:34

Posted in haste - apostrophes all in order after all [phew] close call .

Will now stop going on about apostrophes - promise. Bet I'm not the only teaching type on here who has a thing about them though ... or is it just me?!

nellieloula · 05/07/2007 11:38

morning all - just in agreement with Apricot, I was religious about not eating any peanuts or peanut product when pregnant with DS in the hope that he would avoid becoming asthmatic like me - lo and behold, he is (quite badly) so the reality is that there is very little in our control!!

I have my glucose test next week altho it sounds ok comparatively - have to drink a bottle of lucozade when I wake up, not eat anything and go to a clinic for blood to be taken. I'm pretty sure I can go home then - that's what happened with DS. Why are others having to stay there for 2 hrs??? Worried I've got it wrong now!

still totally uninspired as to what to have for lunch and dinner - so much more bother when there 's just one of you to cook for and all my creative thinking goes into DS's food......any top tips much appreciated! What is everyone having for lunch today??

ejt1764 · 05/07/2007 11:50

apricott - I am famously anal about apostrophes!

The problem with a lot of the food advice is that it changes so often that you could spend all day just trying to work out what you are and aren't allowed to eat / drink ... my personal bugbear is the alcohol thing (and apologies for anybody who is rampantly anti-alcohol in pg) ...

My mum, and most other women of her generation were encouraged to drink a bottle of stout every day during pg to keep their iron levels up ... given that alcohol is now a complete no-no because of fetal alcohol syndrome, why are there not more sufferers of fetal alcohol syndrome in our generation?

The problem is that when anybody says "you must not do x, y, or z" to me without giving me the evidence based research to back up their claims, I get all mutinous (I'm a bit of a stroppy teenager at heart!)

Mind you, I can still count the number of glasses of wine I've had during this pg on 1 hand ...

muppetgirl · 05/07/2007 12:37

ejt totally agree re the alcohol thing. Did anyone listen to radio 4 womens' hour when they discussed the new recommendations?

They seem to lump binge drinkers in with those that have the occasional drink. We have sooooooooo much to worry about without this too. I also think it is unfair as there will those women who have had a drink -however big/small and are pregnant who will now have convinced themselves they have given their child fas.

Give me the evidence and I can make a decision but this sems to be purely women bashing '...well if they can't give up for only nine months, what does that say about them?'

Re the lunch thing I am having a cheese sandwhich and will be making pizza with ds when he gets home.

....have eaten 3 packets of chewits -strawberry- this morning.

Hi everyone, think I am prob going to leave work early today and head out to the Dr's to get LO checked. I know I am being completely paranoid but I haven't really had any movement and certainly no reassuring kicks today and I have decided I am not spending another evening and night worrying myself. Won't get posting again until late or perhaps tomorrow so don't worry if you don't hear from me.
