Hello everyone, just wanted to come in and say hello. Currently got a due date of somewhere between 19th and 21st Sept, but I have a sneaky suspicion I'll be buying birthday cards in October from now on.... we're all notoriously late in my family, even for our own births! I'm currently 28+2 and I'm having a boy.

alicet · 29/06/2007 21:10

Hello ladies!

Have been reading this off and on all day and then kept getting interrupted before I could say hello! Zero chance now of managing to remember what everyone sadi so I promise I'm not deliberately ignoring everyone!!!

Hello lisa!

Big hugs inzi - so sorry to hear about bro and sil. Thinking of them and you...

Floria - some muslin squares are pretty essential if you don't want to be covered in vomit!! Think how many you might want then double. I would also buy more sleepsuits than you think you will need as its not uncommon to need several during one day due to poo / sick etc. Also remember you are meant to wash baby clothes before they wear them so do this well in advance so you don't have to worry about it when you get home!

Can't remember who was asking about surgery and eating? Asking when someone last ate is one of the first things we ask wne planning surgery. Obviously if you were unconcious etc we would just take precautions but the risk is you vomiting and inhaling it which can be very serious. But there should be no reason why you can't eat in labour. Unless they are actually planning a section. Some places still do keep you nil by mouth but I think this is a bit outdaterd now.

Not a hope in hell of remembering anything else but big hellos to all of you!

alicet · 29/06/2007 21:13

Floria - try not to worry about your birth yet. There are always lots of horror stories but people are much more inclined to talk about / ask about those than when things all go well! Can't pretend that mine was straightforward - I ended up with an emergency section after all but despite that I found it a really fullfilling experience and was kept informed and involved all the way through. Regardless of how they get here at the end you will have a lovely little baby (fingers crossed all works for you before then) so whatever happens it will be worth it x

muppetgirl · 29/06/2007 21:16

hi alice it was me asking about the eating as i didn't eat from 6 ish thur to 5am sat morn. Was only allowed to sip water and munch on ice cubes.

Hi Inzi... gosh I do hope we're not all late, I'm dreading the whole unsuccessful sweep followed by induction. My friend was induced with her second last week and said it was soooo painful. she could just be a wimp though !

If i go over again and have to be induced again i have learned form the last time...

As soon as they put the oxytocin drip in i want the epidural put in also.....

Yes it was more painful but i'm not going to go into that again as i think the others have heard it enough

I would consider being induced agian if it was done that way...

OP posts:
muppetgirl · 29/06/2007 21:42

...once epidural in -couldn't feel a thing.
Marvelous!

OP posts:
MrsFish · 29/06/2007 21:46

I'm going for the epidural straight away too, although first time round it took 4 attempts to get it in as they can't put it in whilst you are having a contraction, and I wasn't getting much of a break in between, as soon as one died down it started building up to the next. Then once they finally got it in, it only had 20 mins to start working before I started pushing and ds was here.

OP posts:
ejt1764 · 29/06/2007 21:55

no epidural for me ... it'd be a disaster for my pelvis!

Hiya Mrs Mar!

Now off to watch the eviction show on BB ...

MrsFish · 29/06/2007 21:56

Tbh - you are in that much pain anyway you don't feel it

muppetgirl · 29/06/2007 21:57

sorry chaps.. had to do some work.. tsk! can you imagine? How rude of them to ask me to actually do something, don't they know I have to spend at least 50% of my day on mn!?

I had heard about how painful inductions are, I'm currently having breech worries (very low kicking, never felt anything above about two inches below my belly button) but would like to avoid the whole induction scenario! I too have back problems of old Inzi... knackered disc quite low down, but I've always thought an epi would help me more. I get stuck occasionally, kinda like a nerve gets trapped in all the bits of old disc floating about, and I'm literally frozen, the pain is intense and I cannot move an inch until it works its way out. It doesn't really cause any damage, it's just really painful, if it happened in labour I think I'd be in all sorts of trouble

j20baby · 29/06/2007 22:51

hi all, found ya! well i'm back from painting again, god i'm knackard, thing is, i have to wait for certain bits to be dry before i do others, so wanted to get it done before i start again tommorrow, i know i'm probably overdoing it, but i need it doing!

hi mrsmar hope you are good

just seen on the news that a fireman in our area has been rushed to hospital with suspected weil(sp) disease, and i've been at work where its been flooded, everything is wet and smelly, but if we take time off we need to put hols in, how unfair is that? they should be teams going in to clean with proper equipment on really, but everywhere is stretched at the moment, however if i get a tummy bug this weekend, as a few people that have been at the site this week have got, then i won't be going in till its sorted, its just not worth it! and it looks like bad rain this weekend, so it'll probably get flooded again.

right, getting lightheaded now, need to eat, did i mention i had a creme egg earlier? might have another one, I'm such a porker!

MrsFish · 30/06/2007 07:00
