Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Mumpbump · 04/07/2007 10:09

Blimey, FT... The only times I have ever bled during pg has been when I m/c'd so I'd be cr*pping myself as well if I saw any blood down there! Thank goodness it was only the injection site... It is amazing how much small wounds can bleed sometimes, isn't it?

FloriaTosca · 04/07/2007 10:58

Mump; its the same here..only ever bled when m/cing...I thought I was going to have a seizure!!!! And on heparin, knocking the top of an insect bite makes you look like a freddie kreuger victim! Laughable now though
Right I need a hot shower;...just got drenched through walking the dog and am chilled to the bone....cant be bothered drying him properly so I've tied him into an old towelling dressing gown and left him to drip in the utility room (rotten mum that I am)...see you all later

Apricott · 04/07/2007 11:44

OMG Floria - you poor thing! So glad it was a false alarm .

I too can be found poking my belly to try to get a kick when it's been quiet down there for too long - try not to worry, but can't help it sometimes. Talking of which ...

Mumpbump - don't worry about the brie. You'd know if you had food poisoning you really would. I've been really fancying brie all through this pregnancy, much more than usual, and have given in to cravings from time to time. I've been good about runny eggs, though. They're the one thing I'm really hankering after but avoiding 'just in case'. Roll on October and soft boiled eggs - yum!

Muppetgirl (was it you?) - am at though of all that lovely fresh food.

Good to hear from you again ejb - waves to everyone else.

I'm off to see what Pheebee has been saying ...

Pheebe · 04/07/2007 12:00

Nooo Apricott dont look ....

I'm so ashamed...

nellieloula · 04/07/2007 12:05

morning everyone - hope all is well. Floria, so glad the scare came to nothing. Makes your heart fall into your feet though doesn't it?
glad everyone else is ok. we're fine - DS has finally started sleeping through again (touch wood) which is making a big difference and my MIL has agreed to come and stay over in a couple of weeks so DH snd I can go away for a night and morning. Can't wait - prob only be a premierlodage but who cares!!
other than that , not much else. I've been getting these mad, crushing pains across my chest bones. Anyone else had this? seeing the Dr this pm to check it out. sure it's just ligaments from the ever expanding chest! and picking DS up too. shall let you know. catch up later - have a good afternoon.

Any one heard of a naturla c-section? have a look at this link

Muppet ? you sound like you have been really struggling, although admittedly better today that yesterday. Floria?s advice was fantastic. I think doing those things would really help you. But if not it may be worth a trip to your GP? I think it would be really worth you talking some of your feelings through particularly as you had PND last time. I have heard of people getting pre-natal depression too ? not saying this is you but perhaps since you have had no luck with your midwife this would be a good next step? I agree asking to see your records would be a good idea and I think the amount of stress you had last time would make life tough for anyone even without a new baby!

Mump ? sorry to hear you having a stressful time too. Certainly sounds like your Mum isn?t helping and although there may be underlying reasons does she appreciate everything else you have going on at the mo? Try not to worry about Brie ? I know lots of people who have eaten it when pregnant. The risk is really tiny.

Top tip from Apricott about the elastic band to remind you which side to feed from! I had forgotton I did this too ? babybrain certainly won?t let you remember otherwise! If you think its bad now?..

Hi theressomethingaboutmarie! Glad to see you have made it over! Hope you haven?t had any more agro from you sis / sil (sorry can?t remember!) about what you?re getting for your baby.

Buffy ? sorry to hear you and dd have not been well. Hope all better soon and great news about the house!

J20 ? hope you?re feeling better soon! Sickness and diarrhoea shouldn?t bring on early labour so try not to worry ? just make sure you drink little and often to make sure you don?t get dehydrated. LOOK AFTER YOURSELF!!!!

Ejb ? I am having a 4D scan on 1st August ? getting very excited! I had one when I was pregnant with ds1 and it was amazing ? the pics really look like him too!

Pheebe ? haven?t read that thread yet (going to after this!) but I think buying presents that expensive for teachers is absurd. Sure they do a fantastic job but I think that?s another example of mums being over competitive. I think if I was a teacher I?d be embarrassed to be given something as expensive as a spa day! Agree with ejb that this is more than I spend on my family (apart from ds who gets spoilt rotten!)

Floria ? that must have been really frightening. Really pleased it turned out to be something so simple and everything with lo is OK.

Well now I?ve caught up?. I wasn?t around last night as had a mini scare myself. Gut reaction was always that everything was fine but needed to reassure myself. Lo hadn?t moved much for 24 hours and usually he?s an acrobat. Normally at least 3 times in 24 hours he?ll go mad wriggling about (usually when I?m going to bed and at some point during the night) ? you can see my tummy jumping around and everything. Well I had none of that on Monday night or during the day on Tues. he was moving a little but not anywhere near as much as normal. I also had some pain on the top of my bump to the left. So called the maternity assessment unit and went in about 7.30. They put me on a monitor for about 40 mins and needless to say as soon as they had rigged me up he had the biggest wriggling session he has ever had just to make me look like a lier!!! The midwife we saw was lovely though and said that she would rather see someone 10 times in their pregnancy with something that turned out to be nothing than have even one person come in too late to help. They got one of the docs to see me too because of the pain and she was very reassuring apparently lo was lying all over to that side so might have been stretching my womb in a funny way ? to be honest I wasn?t so worried about the pain and if he had moved like he did on the monitor at home I?d not have bothered getting checked. Was lovely to hear his heartbeat though and great to know all is well?.

Hello to everyone else and sorry for the mammoth post!!! Off to read Pheebe?s rant now!

muppetgirl · 04/07/2007 12:40

definately not for me!!

OP posts:
alicet · 04/07/2007 12:42

nellie hope all is well - best to get checked by your doc but everything is stretching at the mo so sure it will turn out to be nothing.

muppet - have heard of natural c-section. Don't know much about it though....

alicet · 04/07/2007 12:42

why not for you?

muppetgirl · 04/07/2007 12:46

''Smith removes the blue drape between Jax's head and her belly, and the head of the bed is lifted to give Jax a clear view. Fisk cuts into the amniotic sac and a fountain of fluid rises into the air before he rummages around to locate the baby's head. In a few seconds it comes into view, covered with the milky-white vernix that has protected it in the womb. For the next few moments, the atmosphere in the theatre is electric: Jax and Teady gasp in wonder at their new son, who is now looking around, although his lower body and legs are still inside his mother's uterus.''

not for I'm afraid!

Fair enough!!!! I might be a surgeon in my day job but not sure if I would want to see my own stomach cut open! Have been thinking though if I have an elective section whether I am going to be brave and ask them to lower the screen to see ds2 be born. think it would be quite amazing.

MrsFish · 04/07/2007 12:57

Ooo I wouldn't like that one little bit [shudder]

ejt1764 · 04/07/2007 13:03

Afternoon all - a very quick post from me (as you all breathe a sigh of relief) as I'm absolutely exhausted ... going to the hospital twice in 2 days (pelvic pain class yesterday & hydro today) has completely wiped me out!

It makes me laugh because the physios are saying for me to keep off my feet and rest as much as possible - then the walk from the car park to the physio dept takes me 20 minutes!

Anyway, am going to give up and go to bed this afternoon I think ...

FT - OMG - so glad that it was nothing major - but I know I have freaked in this pg every time I've seen blood!

As for the eating thing (can't remember who was saying about food) ... I was sooooo careful when pg with ds - now, after having had the 2 mc, I've got very much to the stage of thinking that if it's going to happen, it's going to happen ... so I've been eating rare steak (as normal), dippy eggs (as normal) and parma ham (as normal) ... I've only not had brie and other such delights as I 've haven't fancied them. But my major confession on the food front is to treating myself to a Tesco sushi pack every now and again ... I am a bad mother!

Right, now off to make lunch then to bed - fancy marmite toast today!

muppetgirl · 04/07/2007 13:05

Mrs Fish/Alicet

Over on the thread discussing this they all seem to think this would be wonderful

Each to their own and all that but it's very alien....

I decided to be pro-active and take control of my birthing experience. Accepting that I had to have a caesarean this time around didn't mean that I had to leave all the decisions in the hands of the doctors. There were three things that I wanted to be part of the birth;

I wanted to be able to reach down and pull my baby out once the head and shoulders were clear
Bring the baby on to my chest
Have the baby in recovery with me

Alice; sorry you had a scare but really glad that all is ok. Typical for lo to decide to wake one you were on the monitor!but as the mw says; better 10 times for nothing that once too late!

muppet; I can understand your squeamishness ... that is why they put drapes there in the first place ...but it sounds so much calmer and more gentle than the usual emergency c...If I really need a c and if the "natural" version was offered to me, I'd take it.[smile} but here to hoping I get the short, gentle and easy water birth I have asked for!!!!

MrsFish · 04/07/2007 13:12

I know, I've just read it... can't imagine anything worse tbh

muppetgirl · 04/07/2007 13:13

'pull my baby out of me'
?!?!??!?!?!

I think each to their own. If people are up for this then good on them. In the same way that some people are comfortable with lots of medical intervention and others would shudder at the thought and prefer to give birth at home I guess its just another option. I guess its one way of making a section more appealing to people who prefer minimal intervention but have to have one for medical reasons?

muppetgirl · 04/07/2007 13:14

i meant OMG sorry

OP posts:
muppetgirl · 04/07/2007 13:15

I am very each to their own but i really can@t imagine doing this to myself....

But then I didn't want ds delivered straight onto me so I know I'm squeamish.

Off topic for a minute... if anyone is interested I have a few maternity tops for sale here

alicet · 04/07/2007 13:25

Have just read that second link muppet. Not all of it would be for me. Not sure I would like to lift him out (don't think it would add / takeaway anything to the experience). But would def like skin to skin straight away and liked some of the other ideas she had about a rug she had slept with for him to be wrapped in if they were separated.

For me last time ds was checked over briefly (he had been distressed so had no issue about this) and dh went to watch. Dh brought him over to me within a couple of minutes and I cuddled him (with a bit of help) while they stitched me up. Totally forgot about skin to skin though - in fact still had on the top things I had worn into the hospital! We all went together to recovery and were there for a few hours which was lovely.

Would like something similar next time if I have a cs although would like skin to skin and would like to have my baby immediately before cleaned and stuff unless there were pressing reasons why I shouldn't

FloriaTosca · 04/07/2007 13:34

Muppet; didnt you find Oliviers birth really moving? I've got tears in my eyes after reading that....
