Jo9977 · 04/07/2007 10:03

Hi smithfield and welcome! And welcome to anyone else who's joined since I last looked - I just can't keep up!

This scan thing is so hard!!! It's so much a personal decision and no-one can judge anyone else 'cos it's different for each one and their circumstances. We've decided to go for as little as possible because whatever, we wouldn't terminate and will just be grateful for whatever God gives us. That said, we'd love a beautiful daughter with a sunny nature, sleeping through the night from the word go, intelligent and loving with the adolescent genes removed!!! Don't think there's a scan for that!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sleeping too well either but that's more to do with having been bitten to death over the weekend in Sardinia and having no willpower to stop scratching!

Mollymops · 04/07/2007 10:27

I'm having an emotional day, grumpy and paranoid! No tears as yet, but day is still young!

bubblesbabe · 04/07/2007 10:34

I'm with you today Mollymops, have had a crap week so far and looking forward to the weekend! Still need to see Gp and haven't managed to fit it in. have 3 costumes to find for dd's school play and a very annoying friend that I need some distance from! Happy days!!!....

Lucylou21 · 04/07/2007 11:09

Thankyou for all the replies, I've been getting quite worked up about the one scan thing to poor Dh who just smiles and nods. For the best really.

samsmam - I have night sickness too, it starts around 5pm and lasts all night which is crap. Pooey nappies make me retch so Dh has the honour of sorting the nappy bucket as well as cooking the evening meal, he's a lucky man.

My cousin was only 24 when her baby was stillborn due to a heart defect related to Downs Syndrome. She turned down the amnio after they found lots of soft markers as she wanted to keep him regardless. I agree that it is completely up to the individual about tests, I asked to be told about soft markers at my 20 week scan but as my pregnancy was low risk I didn't have many other tests.

smithfield · 04/07/2007 16:38

Hey lucylou,

You can pay for private scan, they can be done privately for £95, and if you have it a bit later on you can have it 3/4d. Its called a bonding scan or something.

Let me know if you want more details.

miniandme · 04/07/2007 19:52

We hired a doppler from ebay for a month adn tonight heard the babies heart beat !!!!!
have obviously heard a heart beat before but dp struggled with the tears for sure.
We have it for a month so that will take us up to more midwife appointments when they will start checking the heart beat

smithfield · 04/07/2007 20:14

Miniandme- That sounds great! how many weeks are you? Didnt know you could hear with a doppler i early weeks?

How much was it?

I might give it a go. Is it quite easy to use?

miniandme · 04/07/2007 20:30

With postage it was just over £20 for a months hire, then you can keep it and pay per month you keep it.t was really simple to use to be honest, though i am a nurse but not a midwife, aparently they say you cna hear the heartbeat from 10 weeks ,im 9+6 so almost there, hence why we got it this week

CountTo10 · 04/07/2007 21:09

Oh minime how exciting!!! I can't wait to start the appts and hearing the heartbeat, then you really know its happening. Even though i was really excited at the weekend, I keep looking at my tummy thinking, hmmm I've just dreamt this, i'm not really pg at all!!! I need some evidence now!!!

gingermumi · 04/07/2007 21:17

Welcome smithfield - lots of older mums here - i'm 41 with 2dds already, though mine are rather bigger than yours!

Like the sound of the dopler thingy - is there a web site? Thanks

samsmam · 04/07/2007 21:22

Evening all,
Not much energy at all. LO hasn't been asleep ALL day.
Been eating really badly for last few days, my sweet tooth has overtaken and I am determind not to put on 4 stone this time- HELP!
My food today consisted of:
x2 Oatibix, semi skimmed milk and sweetner (it started well)
1 slice of toast and butter
2 x 10p freddo bar
2 crumpets with butter
Twix
1 chicken breast and a slice of toast.
1 wagon wheel
2 Glasses of semi skimmed milk
Far too much chocolate. I must stop, I must stop.

Maybe thats why I'm so tired.

I not really supposed to be here, but my sis is expecting in Feb 08. I hope she joins MN. She's due on the 28th Feb.

Hope you are all well - rather you than me - I've had my last! Keep healthy and have LOTS of sleep.

smithfield · 05/07/2007 08:20

Morning!

Hope everyone had I good nights sleep. Hope the mc not too bad today!

Jo9977 · 05/07/2007 09:21

Morning too!

Been having a 'really can't be bothered with anything week', hence I'm surfing the web at work and pretending to look busy!

Really feel for all of you with ms/as/ds/all the time s as it seems to have passed for me...although that now makes me paranoid that nothing's happening! Will I ever be happy?

The doppler thing sounds great but I can imagine my dh wanting to listen every ten minutes so don't think I'm gonna mention it!

miniandme · 05/07/2007 09:44

I got my doppler from ebay have put a link cgi.ebay.co.uk/PROFESSIONAL-FETAL-DOPPLER-1-MONTH-RENTAL-HIRE_W0QQitemZ330143753631QQihZ014QQ categoryZ87169QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem here for those of you interested.
Dp now has the heartbeat as the message ringer on his phone which should be interesting when it goes off at work

smithfield · 05/07/2007 09:53

jo9977 I absolutely relate to what your saying, think I could win the sloth award this week. I just CAN NOT be bovvered

Think sme of it for me is underlying anxiety. I sooo badly want my first scan, but MW said will prob not be til at least 12weeks, as hospital is so busy.

miniandme- Thats so cute, hubby and ring tone.sound like a v proud dad to be!
Thanks for the link- I think I might go for it, but bit too soon 4 me, might order it next week.
You might have to give me some instructions tho

Bumblesmum · 05/07/2007 10:20

Morning,
6-8 weeks pregnant, and I just want to buy, buy, buy! I cannot wait for 12 weeks to come so that I can go on a Baby stuff shopping rampage, hopefully Samsmam is gonna come with me as I have absolutely no Idea what to buy. If anyone has any tips, I would be grateful to hear them

Jo9977 · 05/07/2007 10:56

Miniandme - that is brilliant! Baby's heartbeat as the ringtone...really made me smile!!!!

smithfield - understand the anxiety too...waiting is so hard! My MW was great - she's sending me in for my '12 week' scan according to my LMP dates rather than the date the fertility clinic gave me (swines added TWO weeks on to my due date - how mean is that??? !) so that I get reassurance early. When's your scan? It's gonna be great as everyone gets their scan done...

lljkk · 05/07/2007 11:16

Bumblesmum: welcome to the thread (I think that was your first post?). Is this your first? Pregnancy is a big adventure and there can be a lot of twists and turns on the way. Without meaning to sound too pessimistic, I think you should hold off buying anything just yet, but it's okay to shop and browse like mad; cot or pushchair can be very expensive and tricky to get right for you, so worth taking time to research.

Is it so great to get an early scan? What if it's bad news? I must be the token group pessimist, I'd rather wait. I'm also convinced they'll mess up the paperwork and I won't get nuchal fold after all like I'm entitled to, because I'm near the cut-off age, you watch.

Mind you, all my pessimism hasn't stopped me from trying to choose a name, a stroller or predict the dob and birthweight.

So relieved to hear people saying you can't be "bovvered". I feel very guilty but I just can't get much done, it's dragging my heels to do anything -- both dont' have the energy nor the interest.

samsmam · 05/07/2007 11:47

Welcome Bumblesmum- about time too!

OP posts:
smithfield · 05/07/2007 11:55

Jo haven't had the letter from the hospital giving me the date yet boo

bumlesmum I agree with other poster, good to do some research, Im a maclaren pram fan myself. Also worth holding out cos I found family offered to buy a few bits and bobs, and family members loan you stuff so you can save your pennies.

Are any of you planning to find out the sex?
Im in two mind (mine an hubbies) His against, and Im for it. Isnt it easier for planning??

indignatio · 05/07/2007 11:59

Morning all - just
Welcome to the newbies
Had booking in appt yesterday. My m/w is so lovely. In view of my history she has arranged an early scan 8 + 6 for tomorrow. So I am apprehensive, nervous and excited.
I can really relate to the not being bovvered at the mo.

indignatio · 05/07/2007 12:00

not being bothered about housework etc - NOT the pregnancy

leesmum · 05/07/2007 12:33

Hi everyone, and welcome all newbies, hope you are all well and getting nice round tummies.

My sickness is wavering off now, i'm 10 weeks tomorrow(yahoo)so it does tend to slow down a bit.I can sympathise with you all because i cant be arsed to do anything, everything seems a HUGE effort, but i'm on countdown till my scan on 18th.

Smithfield, yes we are finding out purely because i can and want to. A boy would be great for DS it would be lovely for him to have a brother, but a girl would be lovely as well so i really don't mind.

Hi Bumblesmum, i would't go mad shopping yet take your time and price things up so know what you really want, you can get a bit overfaced with everything and forget what you really want. But if you're getting excited why not join boots parenting club, mums to be get loads of vouchers for FREE goodies, lots of places do it try tesco, bounty, huggies etc and see what you get.

thats enough for now more biccies and cup of tea while DS asleep!!
p.s. Dad is doing really well.

mutha2beagain · 05/07/2007 13:31

Hey ladies,

Am I bovvered rules OK! Went out for dinner with two girlfriends last night and could barely engage in conversation - just kept stuffing my face with bread and trying not to feel to sick at the sight of them eating meat.

Still things are looking up - managed 3 chocolate eclairs for brekker this morning, but only after making conversation with the toilet bowl. The mere act of getting up and out of bed set my stomach off.

Can't be arsed to do anything at work. Boss off on hols next week for 3 weeks - perfect excuse for me to just sit around doing bare minimum.

Glad to have more new people onboard - this thread is getting busy. Have another scan tomorrow morning (9 weeks). V. excited.

xx
