Congrats Mini, great news, has it sunk in yet?
Fishstar, I had a c-section for dd1 (found she was breach at 37wks) and vbac delivery for dd2. Midwives were very supportive and I had a 2 or 3 consultant appts during the pregnancy but otherwise the care wasn't different to dd1. Only things different for the actual birth were me not being sent home when I went to hospital even though I was only 2cm, and being monitored through the labour but they had the belt positioned that I could move around loads or sit on a ball or stand next to the bed. They also only started monitoring when I got to about 4cm, to give me a chance to wander around the carpark and hospital to get things going I also had a canula in my arm, just in case I needed to go to theatre.
If you can have a vbac, I would go for it, I found my recovery afterwards v good, you can drive straight away and are able to lift your other dc. I'm hoping for another natural delivery this time around as well.
I'm feeling so much better this week, almost back to normal again, just a bit tired in the afternoons. Told a friend Sat night, so she is very excited. Waiting to tell everyone else after the scan on 20/8.

leesmum · 31/07/2007 07:34

Rozzy and pobletsmum so pleased that your scans were ok.

Miniandme congratulations, you must be thrilled, did you have any idea or was it a huge surprise?

Welcome Fishstar, a few of us have children who will be 3 in oct, its an interesting age!!

We get 9 months off at work, the first 12 weeks is full pay and the rest is smp (104 pound a week or 90% or your earning whichever is lowest)i think thats right.
anyway i only do part time so i won't be losing a lot.

"Happy Birthday" to Egg xx

rozzyraspberry · 31/07/2007 08:06

Morning everyone.

Does everyone know you can actually take a full year off work although statutory maternity pay only lasts for 9 months. You also accrue holidays the whole time you're off now so that could add a couple of weeks to the end of your leave to use them up.

Unfortunately I only get the statutory minimum of 6 weeks at 90% and then 33 weeks at around £112 per week. Hoping to take as long as possible this time as this will definitely be our last!! I've finished at 36 weeks in previous 2 pregnancies but would like to continue for a week or 2 longer this time if possible.

Jo - dh and I share the childcare. Fortunately as he does shift work in the fire service he can still work full-time and I fit my 21 hours per week in around his shifts. You're saying it will half your income but take into account how much you will be saving in childcare costs - I have a friend who pays £1,200 per month for her 2 lo's nursery places. It's fantastic when the dads can spend so much time with the lo's too . Only thing to be prepared for is IME men cannot multitask - some days I come home from work and it's like a bomb has landed in our house! The boys are happy though and love their time with daddy.

Egg · 31/07/2007 08:15

Morning girlies! Am in a good mood even though I am 32 today!

Still v excited about miniandme, where is she, probably keeled over from shock...

I took a year's maternity leave with DS although never actually went back so it is 18 months since I worked now. However at the time it was 6 weeks at 90%, 20 weeks at £104 pw, but if I went back after six months or a year I would get full pay for the first six months i was off, but it would have been paid in tranches each month over A WHOLE YEAR, so they make you go back for a full year to get it... if that makes sense? I am very lucky to be able to stay at home, but to be honest i didn't earn enoughto make it worth going back. Definitely wont be going back to work for some time now as childcare for three little ones will be ridiculous.

pobletsmum · 31/07/2007 08:33

Happy Birthday Egg!

Happy Birthday Egg!!

Jo9977 · 31/07/2007 09:33

Happy birthday Egg! Believe me, you wouldn't want me singing it to you Have a wonderful day and 32? I'm !!

Welcome Fishstar!

Thanks for all the advice on childcare and sharing with DH - and the tips! I kinda know what it's like to live with a 'single task' person already...sometimes he struggles with talking and thinking at the same time!!!! I really like the idea of our child growing up with so much Dad influence and as we are so different getting the best of both worlds (hopefully not the worst!) I'm a mathematician and scientist, DH is a linguist and historian and we are both RUBBISH at the other's speciality!

miniandme · 31/07/2007 10:07

Happy birthday egg!!!
Im here havent quite keeled over yet lol
Just been trying to get my head round the practicalities of having 5 kids!!
They are non identical have their own little sacs and placentas and will be getting a 20 week detailed scan where we can find out the flavours!! There is no history of twins in eithe rof our families and there was absolutely no signs of this pg being any more than one!! Yes i was tired, yes i expanded pretty rapid but nothing more than i have in the previous 3.When the sonographer shoed us the screen yesterday i burst into tears and was laughing and crying all at the same time.
I was due my scan on 8th august but had some severe pains last week so they brought it forward, the pains incidentally were due to constipation so nothign too serious.
Was saying to dp last night that i ran the 10k race for life when i was 6 wks pg with twions lol ,knew i was pg but obviously not the twins thing. How many people can say that eh lol!!

Egg · 31/07/2007 10:26

Ah bless you mini and thanks everyone for bday wishes. Mini mine also have separate placentas which means we have less risk of things going wrong - hurrah!

I told my DH, he realised that three kids will maybe not be so hard after all! Bet your DP is over the moon considering he thought he would never have children.

Off out for the day now, can't remember if there are any scans in today but good look to anyone who does have one.

alkar · 31/07/2007 10:30

Happy birthday Egg, hope you have a lovely day x

rozzyraspberry · 31/07/2007 10:49

Happy birthday egg!

Miniandme - I'm glad you're happy about your twins! Also glad you got your scan brought forward. Are you now eligible to get your 20 week scan on NHS as you're having twins as you were going to have to pay privately before weren't you?

mutha2beagain · 31/07/2007 10:52

Happy Birthday Egg and welcome to fishstar.

Have a great day everyone - sky's looking a decent colour today here in London for a change!

ThursdayNext · 31/07/2007 11:31

Have a lovely birthday Egg. I know a mum with triplets, and she actually works 2 days a week so she doesn't go crazy. So you never know, maybe work will suddenly seem very appealing after a few months looking after 3 under 3s!
Mini, I'm feeling a bit anxious just thinking about the practicalities of 5 children, do you already have a fairly big house and car?
I have shocking constipation on my wierd morning sickness diet, I can't eat any veg or much fruit without throwing up so it's a bit tricky to do anthing about it. Pregnancy, it's such fun...
My DP can multitask, he can do a bit of housework and look after DS. We both have pretty low standards though.
Hope everyone has a nice day in the sun

gingermumi · 31/07/2007 12:11

Happy birthday egg, have a lovely day!

samsmam · 31/07/2007 12:51

Happy Birthday Egg.

Congrats miniandme. And all others that have had their scans- glad all is well.
There must be a third person expecting twins this type of news comes in three's. Watch out all those that haven't had their scans! Oh no that includes me.

Still really tired, nothing ever changes! Anxiously awaiting my scan date still.

lljkk · 31/07/2007 14:30

Happy Birthday, Egg.

Mymissus: just go to nuchal fold scan "knowing" that YOU are the special patient that they are supposed to advise and support, and in reality YOU are the boss. If you hear them being abrupt or discourteous, just respond slowly and with graciousness like you are just SO much above their station.

As a SAHM I feel a bit left out of this maternity pay discussion bit, although I have NO F*ing clue how I managed to work thru 10+ weeks of horrible MSickness in 3 previous pregnancies.

Speaking of which, a weird thing has happened I was 13 wks yesterday and I wasn't sick once; I didn't even feel the need to retch at the toilet. Still Little Moments of queasiness, still feel bad if I bend or squat down but it's like the MS is suddenly almost gone.(??????). Never happened like this before. I don't want to get spoilt and too used to it, just yet! So weird to feel almost normal(!!!!)

Still paranoid about what to try to eat, mind.

beansprout · 31/07/2007 16:08

Wow lljkk - I really hope this is the end of MS for you. You really have had the worst time of it, I don't know how you have managed. Fingers crossed.

My mum wants to come to the next scan, but we will have ds with us too. Do sonographers have a limit to the number of people they allow in the room?

rozzyraspberry · 31/07/2007 18:07

I would just phone and ask Beansprout - I expect different policies have different preferences.

The midwife we saw yesterday suggested we take dc to anomaly scan with us which I was quite surprised about.

princessllama · 31/07/2007 19:40

hello, have only posted once or twice before. feeling the need to talk to some other pg women. have my scan next week and crossing my fingers will be ok, then will start telling people and maybe then the whole thing will seem real.
am only 10 weeks pg but someone has already asked if i'm pg because of my tummy. anyone else in the same boat (with 2nd baby?).
congratulations to all of you who have had succeessful scans and to the two of you having twins. my cousin had 3 and then got pg with twins. they are a lovely lot of kids and they really look after each other.

Egg · 31/07/2007 19:42

Ah so princessllama, you can be the third on the Feb thread with twins! Hope your scan goes well next week, I think most people seem to be getting bellies now, I was in full on maternity gear today and looked about five months gone .

Slacker · 31/07/2007 20:41

Congrats on the twins Mini! What are the chances of two sets of twins on the same thread?!

lljkk - all the maternity leave talk goes over my head too, have never worked when I was pregnant! Wish DH would take some paternity leave though, I'll be lucky if he agrees to take two days off work.

whoever was asking about benefits - I think the site to check is www.entitledto.com or something similar, would be great if you could work it out so that you could share the childcare with DH.

I'm thinking now I'm in the second trimester that I might get round to contacting a midwife - have decided to try the local ones and see how they are but with the option of hiring an IM if I don't get on with the CMWs - I'm probably worrying unnecessarily about that but previous pregnancies have all involved confrontation with the hospital (Whittington, am I glad I don't live in London any more!) but hopefully they'll be a bit more relaxed down here in Somerset. I think they're based at a midwife led unit so hopefully they'll be very supportive of homebirths.

Slacker · 31/07/2007 20:42

Oh and happy birthday Egg!

leesmum · 31/07/2007 20:54

beansprout my mum came in with us at ds 20week scan, but cos it was the anomoly scan she was only able to come in for the last couple of mins..she could have stayed there all day.

mymissus · 31/07/2007 21:19

Thanks for all the advice and support..feeling better today

Happy Birthday Egg!!

Redbush · 31/07/2007 21:22

Evening ladies - belated happy birthday Egg hope you had a nice day.
Princessllama I must definitely be getting a belly (second preg too) apparently people at work have been asking my boss if I'm pregnant - thought I was doing ok at holding it in but obviously not - I'm heading for 11 weeks on Fri.
