Here you go........

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pobletsmum · 30/07/2007 13:46

Great news Rozzy! I'm gad you told your DC your news, and that DS wants to give the baby cuddles! So cute!

Egg - glad you're bearing up OK. I hope you'll have lots of help with your move. Same goes for you manamana.

miniandme - I hope you find something to help your legs.

Jo - I'm not sure when to start mat leave either. It's very tempting to not go back after Christmas (I only work term times anyway), but I know that the later I work, the longer I will get to spend with Beanie before he/she has to go to nursery. I do remember feeling as though I couldn't have worked a moment longer last time though, and I finished about 8 weeks before due date!!!!!!!

My scan went fine too. Beanie measured about the same as I had predicted, but 2 days ahead. It's nice to lose a couple of days . So... today I'm officially 11+5. I've decided to bring my FMC nuchal scan forward to this wednesday, when I'll be 12 weeks exactly, so only 2 days then I can hopefully relax for a while and tell everyone the good news.

There was one worrying thing about the scan. The sonographer identified a 2cm cyst on my ovary, on the corpus luteum. She said it might go away by itself, and it will be checked at my 20wk scan, but she couldn't tell me much more than that. Has anyone ever heard of these before? Any info gratefully received... Off to google it in the meantime.

gingermumi · 30/07/2007 14:02

pobletsmum - glad scan went ok, good luck with nuchal on wednesday - it's a big milestone and such a relief when it's been done. Don't know anything about cysts apart from they can simply burst and disappear (dd1's friend had them and that's what happened to her). With fibroid i was told baby will be fine but it will be uncomfortable for mum! Great! Perhaps it is same with the cyst? Be wary of google, i did that and found good and bad info and it's so easy to get hung up on the bad - it sounds as though sonographer didn't think there was much to be worried about if she suggested waiting until 20wk scan for a check on it - i would ask mw or gp and see what they say.

miniandme · 30/07/2007 14:47

Well just back from our scan and only just being able to breathe again after being told that we are having TWINS!!!!!!!!! This form my dp who was told he would never father a child ,we are in shock and exstatic all at the same time!!

beansprout · 30/07/2007 14:48

OMG!!! Congratulations!!!!

Egg!! Where are you?!!! Minime needs you!!!!!!

lljkk · 30/07/2007 15:01

Congrats on the double blessing Mini&me... although I still think, better you than me!!

mutha2beagain · 30/07/2007 15:04

Congrats to all who've got those reassuring thumbs up from the sonographers and double congrats to miniandme - wow, bet you weren't expecting that! Amazing.

Thanks for all the reassuring comments about belly aches and pains - good to know there's a few of us who can moan about this complaint collectively.

Pobletsmum - as gingermumi says, I don't think cysts are too much to worry about, especially what they call the haemmorhagic ones (blood/fluid filled) as they come and go and it's quite normal apparently, especially as one gets older (harumph). I've got a couple on my left ovary at the moment that are about the same size as yours and was told not to be concerned about them.

I'm also thinking about maternity leave ....definitely don't want to work beyond Christmas and if the truth be told, I'd rather not go back at all! Anyway will be telling work when I'm back from my hols in early September. It's been almost four years (on and off) since we started trying for No2 and I think I'd like to stick around at home for a while with this one.

manamana · 30/07/2007 15:29

woweee, miniandme - congratulations!!!! can't believe we have 2 set of twins on here - fantastic
On maternity leave question, I am soooooooo looking forward to maternity leave this time as last time I missed out. Left work late Friday after lots of presents and attention, stopped off at supermarket to pick up food, dh dropped me off at door and then found me perched in the carpark in tears cos hadn't been able to find trolley and couldn't walk unaided! Got home went straight to bed after tea and woke up 4am with broken waters!!!! Ds arrived at 1.30 that afternoon! He was 2 weeks and 2 days early. Not doing that again, going to stop at least 4 weeks before but yes am very tempted not to go back after xmas...

Egg · 30/07/2007 15:40

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD I AM SO EXCITED MINIANDME!

And massive congrats to pobletsmum too, who also has fabulous news.

What a lovely day. It is my bday tomorrow and I feel I have an early bday pressie by another Feb mummy having TWO BABIES. Are you still due on 2 Feb LIKE ME or have you been moved at all?

Ohhhhhhhhhh, you can join me in the joy and worry.

violeta · 30/07/2007 15:51

Wow, what a good news day!

Congrats to miniandme on the twins! And congrats also to pobletsmum and rozzyraspberry. Who's next?

Re the stomach pains: yes, I've had this too, but mainly during the night. I've also had pains round my kidneys too, but I've been led to believe that's also the same thing (hope so, also worried about infection...)

Re maternity leave - well, I'm hoping to work as long as possible but as I've never done this pregnancy thing before, I may be just a little optimistic. My mum had all of us early, and she's warning me that the same may well happen to me! (don't fancy my waters breaking on the tube!)
Incidentally, the Guardian G2 is all about maternity leave today and is really interesting reading. It compares companies in the UK, and how good their maternity provision is. It's online as well on the Guardian website.

Coming up to 11 weeks now, and the crippling nausea seems to have passed, which is great. Still got morning sickness and gigantic boobs, though!

Jo9977 · 30/07/2007 16:00

Fantastic news you three! Especially miniandme - that makes a quadruple whammy! fab, fab, fab!!!!

gingermumi · 30/07/2007 16:08

OMG Mini how fantastic! Can't beleive we have another set of twins! Nice for Egg too - i expect there are somethings that are specific to twin pregnacies that you can help each other with. Do you know whether they are identical?

On maternity leave - am thinking of starting mine at christmas too - finances are an issue though - i earn more than dh and our maternity pay is crap (i think so anyway, but perhaps i've been spoilt with dds1 and 2- i used to be a civil servant and we got 6 mnths full pay!). I get two weeks full pay, 4 weeks at 90% and then 12 weeks at half pay, then it's down to SMP. Really wanted to be off for about 6 months but it will be a stuggle to stay off until may . i need to work as long as possible so that i get the most paid time off with babe as i can. Trying not to think about is as i get upset. Dh has been looking for a better job for months but nothing as yet - he has stopped looking temporarily as he is having a hip operation next week and could be off for up to two months - obviously no point in trying to get interviews when the first thing you're going to have to say is that you're off sick! I hope he gets something soon though and then that takes the pressure off me.

gingermumi · 30/07/2007 16:10

Violeta- i would get kidney thing checked out just in case of an infection - i had a uti and apparently they can cause problems - probably nothing but i would get it checked anyway (but then i worry lots ).

violeta · 30/07/2007 16:38

Thanks gingermumi - I'm going to the doctor's next week anyway so I'll mention it then.

rozzyraspberry · 30/07/2007 16:53

Congratulations pobletsmum and miniandme - did you have an inkling there was something different miniandme that made you put your scan forward? I think I remember your original scan date was into August? You'll certainly have your hands full with 5 lo's!!

DS1 now wants to build a cot in his room for the baby to sleep in. When it cries he's going to get up and see what's wrong with it apparently. He can't think of a name at the moment which is probably a good thing as a friend of ours ds wanted to call their baby spiderboy!!!

fishstar · 30/07/2007 16:57

Hi. I am due Feb 2nd with my second child. My son is 3 in october.I had a c- section with him as he was in a breech position. Throughout this pregnancy I have to see consultants etc to monitor whether another c-section needed or natural birth ok. Anyone else in this position now or have been as I am feeling quite anxious about it? Any bits of info or views would help!THANKS!

Egg · 30/07/2007 17:30

Hi fishstar! Welcome to the Feb thread and congrats, you are due same day as me! I have not had a C-section but think some of the other ladies have. I have a friend who had one last time and is being supported by her obstetritian (sp) for a natural birth this time. Also have another friend who had c-section first, then VBAC for second.

I am worried about having to have a c-section this time as having twins and I so don't want one as can't imagine how hard it will be trying to lift my poor DS, who will only be 22 months, in and out of the bath / cot etc. Here's hoping no c-section for either of us!

beansprout · 30/07/2007 17:30

Hi fishstar! My ds will also be 3 in October. I had a c-section last time too (failure to progress) but don't think I have to see consultants this time. Just wanted to say hi and welcome to the thread!

gingermumi · 30/07/2007 17:33

Hi fishstar, congrats and welcome to feb thread

alkar · 30/07/2007 18:17

Congratulations to pobletsmum and rozzy on the scans and wow minime - twins!!!!!

CountTo10 · 30/07/2007 19:29

Congrats re all the scans- miniandme, blimey twins!!!

I'm going to be working up until xmas and that's it. Using holiday and stuff should then mean I can be off until November time so almost a year. Does everyone know that maternity pay is now 9 months and not 6 cause not a lot of people do.

fishstar · 30/07/2007 20:24

Thanks for my welcome messages! Congratulations to everyone due in Feb especially those expecting twins! Great to know we are all in the pregnany journey together!My current journey involves eating a bag of maltesers and having a cup of tea!!!{Any excuse!}

Redbush · 30/07/2007 20:38

Evening ladies - congrats to all the scans and how exciting two sets of twins in the group! Welcome to Fishstar too. I'm hoping to work up until two weeks before due date again. Managed it easily with DD1 but then it was my first and was able to make my job less physical and more desk based towards the end of the pregnancy. Mind you she arrived bang on due date and the two weeks had just flown by - didn't get any of the jobs done I'd wanted too. Not sure if I'll make it this time as expecting to be more tired because of chasing lo around. It's a money thing though - especially as now part-time can't really take much more than the 6 months off and want as much time as poss with new lo. Count down for me now 10 days to nuchal scan.

mymissus · 30/07/2007 20:42

Welcome Fishstar

So many congratulations miniandme - HOW EXCITING!!

So much news to catch up on - been away for weekend as all the lack of water etc was totally getting to me and I was at screaming point. Had a lovely time though and feel a bit more capable of dealing with it now. Hope it gets sorted soon though!!

Oh dear all this talk of maternity is scaring me to as handed in my notice just before I found out I was pg so am now temping and can't get a permanent job and enjoy maternity benefits...yikes what am I going to do?!!?!

Also went for nuchal bloods test this morning and was told due to floods they wouldn't take any but for emergency - I nearly burst into tears, so the nurse looked extremely grumpy and said she would take it. I said I was a bit needle phobic and she barked I hope you are not going to pass out on me...I was more scared of her than the needle after that...It makes me dread the nuchal scan next week - both times I have had hospital appointments they have been really abrupt and unapproachable.

Sorry for moaning everyone...just a bit blue tonight

pobletsmum · 30/07/2007 21:05

WOW miniandme! TWINS! I bet it will take a while to sink in. Huge Congratulations!

Thanks to those who have reassured me about the cyst. I will ask my GP/midwife when I see them next, or maybe at FMC on wednesday during my nuchal scan.

ThursdayNext · 30/07/2007 22:24

Congratulations mini, how very exciting
Great to hear your scans were OK, pobletsmum and rozzy and how lovely that DS1 is offering to do the nightshift for you rozzy.
Welcome to fishstar
Don't even have an appt. for my ultrasound yet, I booked in late with the midwife cos I was in hospital throwing up. Will chase it up tomorrow, don't really feel like I can plan stuff like when I'll start maternity leave until the scans done. Worked till 37weeks last time, which was fine.
manamama, that's spookily like me, I went to work on the Friday, woke up with waters breaking at 4am and had DS Sat afternoon. How wierd is that? He was 3 weeks early. I thought it was pretty good though, no time to get worried about giving birth, just got on with it!
Jo9977, me and DP share childcare and it works very well for us. We just get a bit of child tax credit as our income is quite reasonable, the inland revenue website will tell you how much you'll get here
www.taxcredits.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/Qualify/DIQHousehold.aspx
And everyone obviously gets child benefit, which is currently £18.10 per week for your first child. I'm sure there are other benefits if your income is lower.
It might be worth considering if either of you could work compressed hours eg. some 10 hour days. Remember as well your take home pay will be more than half of your current take home as you'll be taxed proportionally less. I also found our spending dropped a lot after DS was born, mostly because we don't go out anywhere near as much as we used to.
mymissus, that sounds horrible, hope the nuchal scan is more pleasant
So much news, it's hard to keep up...
