Hi to all, great news about scans. Mymissus - hope you're coping ok, sounds pretty horrendous over there. i've been keeping my eye on oxfordhsire as some of my family are in a couple villages where there has been some flooding but not in their houses yet. really scarey times. getting excited over here as we may FINALLY be moving, next Friday!!! Going to have to pay packers as we are away this weekend but I am just so relieved that it hasn't all fallen through - allthough I am touching wood as we are due to exchange tomorrow so anyhing could still happen! I've added my new local hopital in a bit to be optimistic. Off to see my midwife in a bit to ask why I haven't been booked in for a 12week scan and other questions, keeping my fingers crossed that the new dr and mw in west sussex will be better, they certainly have a better reputation that the ones in Brighton. Anyway, take care all.

Hi! I'm back and all ok!!!! Very emotional for us both - wow!! MW and sonographer really good and put our minds at rest about not being pressured to have any more scans or tests than we want. Feel so relieved and like it's starting to be real.

So...one down and two to go...

All the best for tomorrow gingermumi and soz to hear all your problems with UTI and sickness etc

Oh...and I'm 11+5 which is pretty close to what we thought! Will update stuff now.

gingermumi · 24/07/2007 14:15

Thanks Jo.

Manamana - although i live in Hampshire i have a choice of portsmouth or west sussex for antenatal care and birth. I have chosen to go to St Richards (Chichester) as it has a better reputation than portsmouth for care. Facilities are nicer and screening is better. I don't know how that compares with your existing hospital but so far I have been really pleased with mw and the few dealings i have had with antenatal unit. You never know we may be there at same time!

Slacker · 24/07/2007 18:16

Haven't posted for a couple of weeks but I've got a nuchal scan tomorrow and maybe CVS too, I haven't decided about that. Not looking forward to it at all and DH can't come along so will have to take a good book. Wish me luck...

gingermumi · 24/07/2007 18:17

Hope it goes ok slacker, we can compare notes!

manamana · 24/07/2007 19:50

good luck slacker, build-up to doing big things like that on your own is always horrible but hopefully you'll suprise yourself at how well you cope because you have to just get on with it. Will keep my fingers crossed.
Good news for you Jo, and Ginger - how exciting, we'll have to have to have some secret sign for while we're in the hospital in case we end up there at the same time - nipple tassles maybe . Actually had a better appointment with my mw here today, she is trying to get me an appt with the consultant who did my surgery so that we can discuss whether I should go straight for cs or risk my reconstructed fanjo!

lljkk · 24/07/2007 19:53

Hi Gals -
Scan today was ... fabulous! I was so delighted (and relieved). Looked totally like a real baby, even before I was told officially I realised that the nuchal fold was a "good" measurement, too.
Trisomy risk came in at 1:400, which is unbelievable to me given my age (40) and the general risk at 40 (about 1:100). We are debating whether to go for amnio or not, now. So many choices...

Crossing my fingers for everyone else with scans and tests to come.

Egg · 24/07/2007 20:07

Great news lljkk! Tis lovely hearing all this positive stuff now after a couple of weeks of bad news / sickness etc.

Manamana - LOL at reconstructed fanjo and the nipple tassles (made me smile!). Not that the fanjo in itself is a laughing matter but the way you put it!

Good luck to Ginger and Slacker for tomorrow. Slacker presume you don't have to take any DC's with you as you didn't mention it? When I had the early scan at 8 weeks I was alone but with DS and it was fine, except that he got a bit narky. Fingers crossed for you both.

Will have to come back to Chelsea & Westminster from Winchester for my scan as don't think I will get booked into new hospital in time for it. Bit of a hassle but at least I know where I am going .

rozzyraspberry · 24/07/2007 20:37

Congratulations to those of you who saw your babies today and good luck to those of you with scans tomorrow. A very busy week this week but nice to have lots of lovely news

ThursdayNext · 24/07/2007 20:55

Great to hear about your scans, Jo and lljkk.
I didn't see the documentary violetta. So what was it all about (she asks nervously)? What awful things did they say about the Whittington?
Hope you make it to Legoland, egg
Pobletsmum, you were asking about tube stations with parking I think? I meant to say have you checked out station car parks? They usually cost about £3 for the day, have a look here
www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/tubestationcarparks/default.aspx.
I'm supposed to be going to work tomorrow, have been too busy throwing up to make it in for the last couple of weeks. Really not looking forward to the tube journey.

alkar · 24/07/2007 21:40

Scan was so good today, little thing didn't stay still, just like me! Feel really relieved now and hopefully can start to relax.

Good luck tomorrow Slacker and everyone else with scans soon x

violeta · 24/07/2007 21:48

Good news, Jo and lljkk, about your scans today. You must both be really happy!

Thursdaynext: Well, I wish I hadn't seen the documentary last night actually! There's a thread on the pregnancy section about this:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=49&threadid=361030&stamp=070724145222
Basically, the gist was that the post-natal care is pretty dismal as the midwives are overworked and struggling to care for quite a few women at a time. The journalist did use the example of the Whittington, but the point was that this was possibly a national phenemenon. One good thing about the Whittington that was said actually was that the care in the labour ward couldn't be faulted, so it's not all bad news... The antenatal care is reputed to be good as well, so fingers crossed!
Hope you feel better tomorrow by the way...

ThursdayNext · 24/07/2007 22:29

Violeta, glad it was just about post-natal care, I was worried about care in the delivery suite itself, so I'm much relieved that wasn't criticised. Some people seem to think the journalist was a bit whingy, and she was complaining about having to wait for food and so on? Although everyone I know in London seems to have found the post-natal care fairly poor, in all hospitals. But in some ways, if the birth is reasonably straightforward, you don't really need much post natal care beyond the first couple of hours. Only thing I really had an issue with last time was the lack of breastfeeding support.
Phew, I won't have to invite myself to Spain with you then!

scully · 25/07/2007 03:37

Hope everyone is starting to feel a little better this week. This is the best week I've had in about 3wks, still vaguely nauseaus but not like I have been and I can eat most things again. Had my booking in appt this morning at the hospital, which went well. This will be our first Australian born baby so just getting used to the slightly different way some things are done, but was very happy to hear that although I'm in a public hospital (a lot of births here are private as they are covered by medical insurance), I will have my own room
My nuchal scan is booked for 20/8 and my 20wk scan is on 4/10.
May have to tell a few people this weekend as I have my 20yr school reunion to go to on Sat night and a few people will be very suspicious if I'm not drinking

Redbush · 25/07/2007 17:10

Afternoon ladies - just catching up with all the news - congrats to all of you who have now seen their little ones. This pregnancy doesn't feel real at all at the mo - I just feel nauseous and FAT so hoping the next two weeks go by a bit quicker. Perhaps when I see it I'll feel a bit more pregnant.
Scully - never crossed my mind that we weren't all in the UK - where abouts in Aus are you? How long have you been over there? Bet you're having better weather in the middle of your winter than we are!
Hope those of you who had scans today have got on ok - look forward to hearing about them later.

lljkk · 25/07/2007 18:13

Scully, what is having a baby like in Australia, then? Did you have the previous baby(s) in UK?

gingermumi · 26/07/2007 09:54

Manamana- love the nipple tassles idea!

Had scan last night, we were there for ages, clinic was running late and then baby was facing wrong way so was sent out to eat a biscuit and have a walk round!

Unfortunately they didn't tell us much as we're had blood test as well. They said blood results would be back today or tomorrow (so more waiting ). Sonographer was fairly non-commital but she did say baby has a nasal bone (good sign) and generally looks as it should do - rather vague but they made it clear that if you have the bloods as well they wont give you figures until all data has been put together. DH noticed that nuchal measurement was 1.5 (i guess thats mm) - does anyone know if that's good? I tried to look on the net but not sure what i'm looking for! I think risk is greater if it's over 3mm (?). I'm really hoping for a good result like lljkk's, my age risk is 1 in 75 so would like it better than that!

It was lovely to see the baby, it was very busy and looked like it was waving! They have moved date again but I can't remember what they said! I will check when they phone with results - i think it is just a big/long baby (DH 6'4'') as new date would mean i conceived before i ovulated!

It's going to be a long day, i think!

VictorVictoria · 26/07/2007 10:14

Gingermuni

I had my nuchal scan at the Fetal Medicine Cenret last week. I am 39. My nuchal translucency measurement was 1.6 which they said was very good. So 1.5 sounds even better.

My age relatd risk was 1:101 but after scan went down to 1:1979 and after the blood tests went down to 1:2007.

HTH

lljkk · 26/07/2007 10:17

1.5mm is exactly what they had for my bubba, ginger. It's a "good" nuchal fold result for a mother 40-ish. Anything below 2mm for this age bracket.

I just checked notes from my last pregnancy 4 yrs ago; DS had a nuchal fold of 2.1.

gingermumi · 26/07/2007 11:06

Thanks lljkk and VV, that helps lots. Will keep you updated- Hope they call today!

leesmum · 26/07/2007 11:37

Well done and congratulations on all ladies who have had scans over the last couple of days.

Has anyone got there's next week, let us all know.

Now that a few of us have had scans the feb thread is getting more established, it's a very exciting time for us all.

Take care everyone xx

Jo9977 · 26/07/2007 12:03

Hi everyone!

How did your scan go yesterday Slacker? Hope you got good results!

Hope you hear soon gingermumi - isn't waiting pants?

Really glad to hear about your scans ljjkk and Alkar - another triple whammy Tho with your date Egg I guess it was more a quadruple whammy between the three of you!!!!

Had a bit of a blow up yesterday...my brother died last Nov and our news was just what my mum needed to help her start to focus on the future. She hadn't told anyone but was hugging the secret to herself until our scan. So what do I do? Give my stepfather permission to tell people (we had made him promise not to say anything when we told him I was pregnant 'cos he's trigger happy on the email) and he only goes and sends a round robin email to a load of people without letting my mum know or phone them in her own time, including her best friend and brother-in-law! A few choice words were said, Mum's in bits, and I lost the plot. Sometimes people can be so insensitive!!!!!

gingermumi · 26/07/2007 12:20

Waiting is pants! I want to phone them but i know there's no point because they're so efficient, if they had anything they'd call.

Sounds like you've had a rough 24hours though I expect (typical man) your stepdad acted without thinking! Hope it quietens down for you and that your mum is ok.

pobletsmum · 26/07/2007 13:09

Oh Jo, your poor mum. Don't you just wish that you could 'rewind' these moments in life sometimes?

ginger - I hope you get your news very soon.

Great news from all of you having scans in the last few days - what wonderful news all round!

I have a dating scan on monday, then nuchal scan the following week, then I will FINALLY be able to share my news. It's getting soooo difficult to hide. This pregnancy does seem to be the world's worst kept secret though. Someone let slip at DS' nursery, and everyone at work seems to 'know' - even people I don't know have apparently been talking about it! However, nobody at nursery and only 1 person at work (other than the 3 I'd told) have asked me directly, so I haven't had to lie, I just haven't confirmed the rumours. I wouldn't mind, but I haven't told all of the family yet, so it feels as though things are being done in the wrong order. Only 2 more weeks till the secret is out...
