I can totally sympathise with the greasy hair thing,i usually have really healthy long curly hair but lately it has been so greasy yet so dry if that makes sense, all brittle and frizzy so it is being cut and straightened on monday to 1 try to help the condition of it and 2 to make me feel human again,or at least try!!

Lucylou21 · 18/07/2007 11:31

I have terrible spots at the moment, my hair is behaving itself for once though!
Glad I got things sorted out last night, the doctor asked if I'd bled during my pregnancy before telling me there was blood in my urine. He said this was quite common and should clear up in no time. I think just knowing it was getting sorted out cheered me up!
I still haven't been able to get in touch with my midwife, she left a message saying 'this is your midwife returning your call' and that was it. Not very helpful!

samsmam · 18/07/2007 12:29

I have spots as well, horrible ones! Surprised you didn't notice them the other day- bumblesmum. I think its after 12 weeks your skin starts to glow as well as your hair again??? Oh the joys!

Just taken LO to a baby gym type thing- I think I'm the tired one!

My friend just asked me if I was pregnant- I denied it but I feel bad.

OP posts:
lljkk · 18/07/2007 12:52

I wish I had spots and greasy hair -- well, I'd rather have loads of them than this awful sickness. Why does vomitting hurt so much? Tempted to read up on pro-bulimia websites about "Being sick made easy".

Last 2 days have been terrible, net calorie intake must be under 300. So I've just had a sizeable portion of something I quite like, will probably reappear but at least I enjoyed it going down.

I was going to go to an indoor playcentre or maybe the beach, but felt too embarrassed about the probability of other people noticing me being sick. DC are starting to ask "Why is mummy sick so much?", can't fob them off for much longer.

Mope, mope, mope, mope...

Bumblesmum · 18/07/2007 13:02

Oh I am so glad I am not the only only.
Samsmam - Nope I didn't notice them the other day. I thought you looked as though you were glowing.
I thought about getting my hair cut, and having my eyebrows shaped and generally going on a shopping spree. Just to try and make myself feel better.
I do feel fat and frumpy at the moment I thought about going swimming once a week, the m/w said about ante-natal on Monday nights but I feel like a fraud going to that at the moment.
I did just enjoy some toast with tomato sauce instead of butter it was lovely.

leesmum · 18/07/2007 13:09

Hi everyone,

Scan this morning was fab... everything there, i couldn't help but have a little weep especially after everything thats happened recently.

I am now 12+2 and have been given Jan 28th but considering DS was 5 weeks early i'd better be ready for Christmas!!!

Ds has already said he wants a baby sister and she will be called Makka Pakka (is that spelt right) we have told him you can't pick what you want.

Dad was discharged from hospital yesterday which is fantastic as well, i am so happy at the moment.
I am sending best wishes for all other scans on fri and so excited for you all.

i will update list later as ds has just woke up. xx

Egg · 18/07/2007 14:16

YAY fab news leesmum, on Makka Pakka AND your dad. Bet you are grinning from ear to ear today . Don't worry, I will probably be giving birth around the same time as you, but there's no way i am leaving the Feb thread...

I too have been spotty, and my normally niceish curly hair has also been brittle and frizzy (weather not helping).

Lucylou, glad you got yourself sorted, are you feeling better already? Hope so.

lljkk - can't remember but have you spoken to midwife / GP about your sickness? So few cals plus being sick must be making you feel very weak you poor love. I just ate half a (ful size) Thorntons cake .

Have copied and pasted list again, ready for updating as people have their scans etc. It is copied from 6 July, was that the last time we did one???? Hope it is not too out of date:-

Fab news on all accounts Leesmum! I'm so pleased! Just make sure you stay on Feb thread tho'!!!

Just a tiny thought...totally up to everyone...would it be good to put a bit more on the update list like last scan date, age ( optional of course!) and town...it's just I sometimes wonder if anyone's anywhere near me, and struggle remembering where people are at with scans etc. All optional of course and don't want to clog up the thread too much...

Hello all
Have been very busy throwing up so not posted for ages. Was in hospital for a week with hyperemesis, which apparently means throwing up loads and loads when you're pregnant until you're dehydrated. Had to have a drip for fluids and various drugs to try and stop me being sick. Bit better now, but still mostly resident on my sofa.
Sympathy to lljkk and anyone else being sick.

Great news with your scan of Makka Pakka and your dad Leesmum.

Wierdly, my normally quite greasy hair actually looks quite good. Pregnancy does such strange things to you.

As much as I moan I know I'm not as bad as Thursday -- I guess I'm just scared of going that way! I have never had an IV and am pretty phobic about the mere idea, I think I'd have to be unconscious before I could tolerate one, anyway.

Since my pig-out on tortillas and salsa today I've only retched once and have been nibbling chocolate all afternoon... maybe salsa is the way to go, everyday (if only it were that simple).

I'm getting scanned next week & suppose if I took turn for the worse they could hold me in hospital, but if it means an IV, I'll crawl out the doors first, I imagine.

Did you collapse or get flagged up by MW or what Thursday? If you don't mind sharing the circumstances of the decision to admit you to hospital. I don't know how DH would cope with DC without me for a week, either. Tries his best, but is a better dad in small doses.

Thursdaynext

At the mo It's a toss up between the Royal Free and Lindo Wing at St. Marys. UCH and Whittington were also suggested by GP but they are a little bit further far from where we live relative to the other two. NHS at St Marys not poss - they are oversubscribed for their immediate catchment area as it is.

Had ds at John and Lizzies and it wasn't the best experience - obs and midwives both got all my dilatation tests wrong (overestimating it wildly) and consequently ended up having 32 hour labour - 20 of which with no pain relief. Mw's a little too gung ho on the natural childbirth thing probably for a first timer like me then, then had to be restitched after botched episiotomy.

I know that If I go RF the post-natal care will not be that great but DH and I are still talking about whether it's worth spending the money on private - once I have 12 week signed off then I can start to think hard about what decision to make.

What about you?

lljkk, I think whether they recommend admission to hospital is based on how dehydrated you are, and they test your pee for ketones which indicate that your body is breaking down fat because it's gone into starvation mode
I didn't keep down any food at all for several days and not much fluid, so I went to see my lovely GP who said I should go to hospital. I was very reluctant, so she prescribed some anti-sickness tablets and said to try them but that I should really go to hospital if things didn't improve.
They didn't, so DP dragged me along to AandE the next day. I probably should have gone earlier, think I ended up staying in for a whole week because I was in such a state by the time I went in. And I couldn't look after DS anyway by that stage, DP and my mum were looking after him, so it really didn't make any difference from that point of view. Hospital was OK after trying very hard to avoid it. The IV was fine.
If you're keeping down some food and managing to drink I would have thought you will probably manage to stay out of hospital, lljkk.

mutha2be, I had DS at the Royal Free, I found the midwife and doctors very good while giving birth. Ante-natal clinic was a bit patchy, and post-natal care not great, but that seems to be the case most places. Hopefully the post natal bit (breast feeding support etc) won't matter so much 2nd time around. Going to the Whittington this time though, slightly nearer to me.

ARGH! Typed a long post and don't know where it went! To summarize..

lljkk: The real danger is dehydration and a metabolic imbalance. It's is a viscoius circle with dehydration: dehydration makes nausea worse, which makes dehydration worse... I'd go the A&E and get hydrated. Also, if you can, try and sip on regular Coca Cola and nibble on salt and vinegar crisps. No joke...you'll be getting sugar, salt, and acid (to replace what coming up) and Coca Cola has some stomach soothing properties (all told to me by a professor in medical school).

mutha2be: Are you booked in with someone at the Lindo Wing already? They book up pretty quickly.

I have a similar dilema. I went with Mr Murphy for my first pregnancy, and loved him. Trouble was that he wasn't even at my birth. In fact, I didn't even make it to St. Mary's. Cab had to swerve into the first A&E, and I had delivered the head whilst walking into the A&E , Was home in 5 hours with no tears.

This time, birth should be faster (first one was less than 1.5 hours from first twinge to placenta out). I'm not going to make it out of the house.

Also, with DS I was living in Canary Wharf, so my hospital choice was the Royal London (eek). This time, I'd be booked into the Queen Charlotte, which seems to have a good reputation, and looks more hygenic. Anyways, if it's like last time, I'll be home same day. Perhaps I should pocket the potential cost of 8000 pounds plus (Mr Murphy said he would induce me early to ensure I delivered in a hospital).

Trouble is, I have my first appointment with him on Friday. I know I should just cancel, but I'm afraid I'll change my mind and then won't be able to book with him!

Thanks for the tip about Lindo MG - I will call them in the morning.

What a dramatic birth story for your first - you see whether it's either long or short things never happen in the way one imagines they might!

If you're such an efficient deliverer, (lucky you) aren't you just a bit tempted maybe to hire an independent midwife and have baby at home or is that out of the question?

lljkk - sorry to hear you're having such a rough ride with your stomach - I've heard lemonade can have anti emitic properties - could you bear to try it or are you just at the end of your tether?

Egg · 19/07/2007 08:27

Gosh I was a bit worried about quick births as DS was four hours from first twinge, but not as dramatic as you MG! Am a bit concerned about going into labour early, and it being v quick, and DH being 90 mins plus away, etc etc...

Got midwife coming round this morning. Looking forward to it for some reason, think it will make it seem a bit more real. Last time I had the midwife appt at 6 weeks, so it seems v late this time.

Hope everyone is feeling ok today, esp those poor ladies with such bad sickness.
