@SquirtlesMumAgain I know and I am so not prepared 😬 DD is very excited though and keeps asking when is baby coming out 😁 Is your ds excited?

HidCat · 17/01/2019 21:54

@BadBadBeans bath worked a treat, calmed everything down and been chilling in the sofa watching the belly dance lol. This little lady seems to spin around completely every couple of days so I feel kicks absolutely everywhere!

Angelmiracle · 17/01/2019 22:11

@Assumeitwassomethingclever at my scans baby was breech with all kicks directly on the bladder and low pelvis.

After I fainted 2 weeks ago all kicks were at top of bump for the first and scan last week confirmed head down.

Atm baby is changing constantly getting kicks in all different places who knows what position they're in! 3 weeks for next scan.

Welcome @Xiana hope you're keeping well.

Yeah @Kelsoid it was SMEP - first go trying it and it worked! Are you having a smooth pregnancy?

@assumeitwassomethingclever I mostly feel kicks around the belly button and just to the left of my belly button there's always a hard lump that settles there in the evenings lol no idea if it's bum or head??

Gronk27 · 17/01/2019 22:44

I get low down kicks sometimes and then the majority are in the middle and started to get the waves a la alien now. That was disconcerting at first! Last two appointments midwife said her head was down but her back and bum have shifted from right to left.

HidCat · 18/01/2019 07:04

Morning ladies, I've just been looking at my notes and found a couple of scan pictures from last week - nothing exciting just abdomen and something I can identify - but there was a growth estimate on there which I got very excited by lol. She was estimated at 3lb 9oz at 30+5 which is reassuring, I know they're not necessarily accurate but it'll be interesting to see how that develops.

melissa112 · 18/01/2019 10:21

Argh. A lady in my office a few weeks down has a cold and has put some vix or olbas oil in some hot water and it really stinks. My eyes are stingy.

Any of you ladies know if it's something I should avoid? Read some old threads on some forums where it could cause contractions or problems with baby's liver (or kidney, can't remember which) but no definitive NHS type answer!

Just wondering if I should speak to my boss about working from home the rest of the day or whether I'm overreacting?

HidCat · 18/01/2019 10:26

@melissa112 I've always been told Vicks is fine and have been using it when needed throughout so don't worry. Worth mentioning if it's making your eyes sting though as that's going to be problematic in a work environment!

melissa112 · 18/01/2019 10:32

I'm not sure if it's Vicks or olbas oil and from reading I believe there may be a difference and Vicks may be ok but olbas oil not? But then there's no real research and no mention on the NHS website. I don't want to be that person who makes a fuss. It seems to be easing off a bit now so hopefully nothing to worry about. I've been doing really well with anxiety the past week but now I'm a bit concerned that it might be olbas oil..

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 18/01/2019 11:09

@melissa112 I asked my midwife regarding this at my last appointment as I had a cold. She said it's fine and that although some people don't feel comfortable putting it on their skin in case it does affect baby, there's no evidence to say it's harmful. She told me to use it if I needed to so I doubt being in the same room as someone who is using it will be a problem.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 18/01/2019 11:10

This was both Vicks and Olbas oil.

melissa112 · 18/01/2019 11:13

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever brill, Thanks very much!

Wineandchoccy · 18/01/2019 11:52

I would think it is ok @melissa112 because you can put it in a babies room if they have a cold. Sounds like they have used to much though if your eyes are stinging, can you open a window or go for a walk at lunch or tip it away and say it’s making you feel ill?

Wineandchoccy · 18/01/2019 11:55

DD woke up with a sore throat this morning so I rang nursery and kept her home of course now the calpol has kicked in she is bouncing off the walls Grin

SquirtlesMumAgain · 18/01/2019 12:23

Oh no for bouncing DD @wineandchoccy! DS has been complaining of a headache this week every time we head to nursery... He's had a bit of a tough luck, and gone anyway - I know they would phone if there was an issue!!!

He is excited and worried shout losing mummy at the same time. He had a proper melt down at nursery the other day saying that he was worried about baby coming and not having mummy any more so needed lots of cuddles.

Have just put the Tiny baby clothes into the wash. Not sure if we will need them, but going to get everything washed up now.
Getting a new bed delivered tomorrow so we can then start laying everything out ready to pack on the guest bed (once we make it.... Definitely getting ready for emergency mode kicked in now!)

Gronk27 · 18/01/2019 12:52

@melissa112 glad you’re feeling reassured but can I just say I think that’s really rude of your colleague!

Can we talk cats? Who has one (or more?) our vet was very reassuring, apparently midwives and HVs can be a bit hostile about them and my MIL and Nan have started with the old wives tales about them sleeping on babies faces and being attracted by the milk smell. Surely they just want to snuggle with a warm body, in a comfy cot, assuming that they don’t run for the hills at a noisy strange little human. My family cat always ran a mile from babies and kids. We’re just getting a cat flap put in and this weekend she’s getting shut out of our bedroom at night. We’re recreating her favourite sleeping spot in the spare room. Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts. She’s our first baby (the cat!) but absolute back up she’ll go to the in laws. That thought makes me sad though.

Wineandchoccy · 18/01/2019 13:07

We had an old cat when dd was born and he took zero interest in dd or her bed. We have a younger cat now and she has so far ignored the things we have set up for the new baby so hopefully it continues that way.
Cats don’t like tin foil so you can cover anything you set up with tin foil before the baby is here to put them off.

melissa112 · 18/01/2019 13:14

Thankfully the smell has gone now and if they do use it again I'm in a meeting from 2 onwards til home time so I'll be out of the way.

My friend has a cat and she has shown zero interest in her baby who is now 19 months. It's good that you're getting her used to the changes now. We've done the same with our DDog. She's a big German Shepherd and while I have no worries about her with the baby, there is physically no room for her in our bedroom to sleep anymore with the babys crib in and the new wardrobe we had to get to accommodate all the stuff out of the now nursery which was the box/storage room. Before Christmas we put her bed on the landing and although she was confused at first she quite happily settles there now. Has your cat shown any interest in the baby stuff so far?

SquirtlesMumAgain · 18/01/2019 13:25

Just to give you all a giggle... Had a chat with DS about why he was worried about baby coming and he just told me he wasnt worried about her being here but he was worried about her hurting me when she came out of my mouth......

Not going to correct him on that one, I'll let it pass without comment :D

Wineandchoccy · 18/01/2019 13:29

Ha ha @SquirtlesMumAgain dd asked me where the door was in my tummy so that the baby can get out Grin

Gronk27 · 18/01/2019 13:32

@squirtlesmumagain that made me chuckle, does he worry that he hurt you when he came out of your mouth?! That’s very perceptive and sweet though.

@melissa112 @wineandchoccy there’s not a lot of baby stuff out it’s all gone in the loft while we sort everything else out. Anything that is she gives it a sniff much the same she does with anything. She loves curling up on my bump and baby goes mad when she hears her purring! I was going to to put tin foil down outside the bedroom door so she doesn’t try and bash the door down to get in but great tip to put it on say the crib or a bouncer to start with. Thanks for the reassurance, like you say I think cats mostly have very little interest really. We’ve got to teach her how to use a cat flap next.

babycatcher411 · 18/01/2019 13:36

Out of your mouth, that’s definitely a new one!

Yesterday me and DS we’re talking about the cord/placenta + belly buttons. He asked what happens to the placenta after it’s cut off and I said usually the hospital get rid of them by burning them, but some people take them home to eat them. To which he looked absolutely disgusted and said why on earth would anyone want to eat something that’s come out of your bum!!

So we ended up having an amusing conversation about the differences between boys and girls.

babycatcher411 · 18/01/2019 13:38

Our cat so far has shown no interest in anything we’ve brought into the house for the baby. I’d be very surprised if she will even go near home when he’s here, she’s not the biggest fan of noisy things.
Her favourite place to sleep is on my sons pillow (he’s 11) with him, so I’m not to concerned she’ll want to sleep near/on the regularly crying baby.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 18/01/2019 14:04

His old pre-school had said that he had said babies come out of mummy's mouth but he wasn't the first child they had through that had come out with that statement.

He hasn't said anything about how he came out, bless him. Bet it will come up at some point...

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 18/01/2019 16:03

@Gronk27 I've been wondering the same thing about our cat! Everyone takes the mick out of me in regards to how much I love my cat. He sleeps on my side of the bed every night but we'll be shutting him in the kitchen in a few weeks time for the forseeable future. My mum has mentioned how they heat seek and sleep on top of babies and end up smothering them. Whether or not this is an exaggeration, I'm not sure! I am a bit worried about how he's going to be when the baby comes as he never leaves my side. He bashes open the bathroom door if I've left it unlocked and sits on the side of the bath whilst I'm in it (bit weird, I know) We did have a friends baby round a while back and he was fine- just sniffed her and then walked off so I'm hoping he'll just ignore it. He has been curled up next to my bump every night for the past couple of weeks. I'm hoping it's him being protective rather than trying to smother it before it's arrived like my mother thinks!
