Our cat hasn't been interested at all. He's quite independant anyway and likes to be outside most of the time or just sat on his own by the radiator. I can imagine hell be quite uninterested. I haven't heard much from cat owners but more horror stories from dog owners due to the excitement! My MIL has a very excitable Jack Russel and that scares me a bit!

Gronk27 · 18/01/2019 17:59

@assumeitwassomethingclever very similar to me then, she likes to come in the bathroom when i’m on the loo haha! She sleeps next to me until she discovered a little ottoman my OH got as a stool for my dressing table next to the radiator. We’re going move that into the spare room and shut our door. Like you say i’ve only known cats to avoid babies. Our vet’s wife is also a vet and works in a cat sanctuary and they have 3 and he said they ran for the hills. The HV asked them when they were getting rid of the cats!

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 18/01/2019 18:28

@Gronk27 Peoples expectations that pets should just be gotten rid of once you have a baby really annoys me! We've had people ask that as well and I just want to hurt them. πŸ˜‚

Is anyone else feeling soooooooooo uncomfortable at night? I'm 32 weeks and thinking how much worse it's going to get. Takes me forever to fall asleep or grunt/shuffle into a position where I will do so easily,

melissa112 · 19/01/2019 06:58

@ballanj absolutely with you on that one. I seem to feel ok ish at work..not sure if my mind is just too busy or the fact I'm.sat up straight. But as soon as I get home I just feel so uncomfortable. Especially in bed. I spend all night turning from one side to another and my legs are so achy. I was always a stomach sleeper so being on my side for so long feels horrible. Had a mini panic in the night as I woke up one of the many night time wees and just felt so exhausted. Then realised that this was probably how I was going to feel but worse when baby was here. Was a bit overwhelming.

Not sure how to get through another 8 weeks of all this discomfort. And heartburn has ramped up. The pharmacist said I couldn't have rennies and OH forgot to pick up more gaviscon on his way home so need to get some asap.

Oh and your point about it getting worse, that scares me too!I mentioned to someone at work about how uncomfortable I was and she just pointed out that I'm only going to get bigger and therefore it's all going to feel worse. Argh

HidCat · 19/01/2019 07:53

@ballanj I think I've managed to settle into a more comfortable sleeping position of late, got my pillows just right unless the little lady is lying awkwardly. I'm just hoping it lasts as it's only been a few nights! Chairs though - different story! Only my own office chair will do in work so I have to wheel it to meetings now and at home I build a nest on the sofa to support my back.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 19/01/2019 08:31

I keep having to prop myself up further and further... Really uncomfortable but if I don't I have the breathing fun!
I did ask the midwife about it and she just said prop yourself up more.... Nice and reassuring!

When baby arrives it is much worse, and Day 2 is by far the worst! We had basically no sleep and have heard it from a lot of people that it just hits baby really hard that they aren't in the safety of your body any more. Lots of cuddles, lots of holding close and lots of acceptance that you might have to tag team it!
Generally you get into a pattern though, and grab sleep where you can. Don't ask your brain to do too much though once baby is here - the house will clean later, just do the basics, make sure you have food in that is easy to eat with one hand.... Oh and if people offer help, take it! Do not clean before they arrive!!!

Angelmiracle · 19/01/2019 09:21

@ballanj so uncomfortable in bed with pelvic pain it clicks when I change position 😫 Like you @Melissa112 I'm a tummy sleeper and thighs are aching with side sleeping.

Whilst there is obviously lack of sleep with a newborn I was a lot more comfortable being able to sleep without the restrictions and pain!

@Melissa112 I can't believe they wouldn't give you Rennies! I took them all throughout pregnancy with DS and taking them this time too had only read they were safe in pregnancy.

Hi I'm not sure if I'm allowed to join. My official due date is 7th of April but my little lady has constantly measured ahead and I've been convinced from the start they had my due date wrong. This is baby number 5 for me so I kind of know how I feel at each stage and I'm sure this little one will arrive arrive in March.

Wineandchoccy · 19/01/2019 12:02

Welcome @Exhaustedmummy1811 more the merrier and we have a few February due dates me being one of them plus some late marchers may go overdue (sorry if you are due late March Wink)

Exhaustedmummy1811 · 19/01/2019 12:08

Thank you @wineandchoccy. The April thread went dormant and I just wanted people in a similar situation to compare aches and pains with lol how are we all feeling?

WhatALearningCurve · 19/01/2019 12:14

So I'm spending today doing an "inventory" what I've got so far and what else we need and have just realised that whilst I thought I had quite a lot of 0-3 baby grows so bought some "in case of emergency" newborn stuff the other day, what I've actually got is just a lot of newborn stuff.

Obviously this might be okay but going off family averages, I think little man is going to be 8-9lb so newborn won't last long! Need to stock up on bigger ones I think ha

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 19/01/2019 12:31

@WhatALearningCurve we did that last weekend and discovered that we have somehow ended up with 30 0-3 vests. πŸ™ˆ

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 19/01/2019 12:55

Today is the first day of our new kitchen being fitted which I've been massively excited for. Our old one was a mixture of pine cupboards with a purple gloss worktop. Pretty sure it's been there since the house was built in the 80s! It's now dawned on me that I'll be without an oven for two weeks and we'll be living off microwave meals. Not sure how I'm going to handle that with my current insatiable appetite!

WhatALearningCurve · 19/01/2019 12:59

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I mean I don't have any vests at all yet. Just sleepsuits so you're winning compared to me ha

SquirtlesMumAgain · 19/01/2019 13:07

Waiting for our new bed to arrive today then it will be mass sorting time. We havent got that many clothes for tiny baby or newborn, but we coped last time. It didn't feel like I was washing all the time!
Had a letter from my doctor asking for a retest "FB B12 + Folate"... I knew I wasn't right but no-one was listening :(

Wineandchoccy · 19/01/2019 14:17

Me and DD have sorted babies clothes into drawers this morning makes it feel like it is getting very close now

Wineandchoccy · 19/01/2019 14:19

Also just had a crunchie and baby is going mad kicking me - We are at hell otherwise known as soft play on a Saturday Grin

melissa112 · 19/01/2019 14:46

@Angelmiracle oh that's interesting about the rennies. I'll speak to my local pharmacist. I'm sure I've read somewhere they are ok and obviously are helping you. I just wouldn't mind some for my handbag as heartburn is almost constant now Confused

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever oo good luck with the new kitchen! Great excuse for a few takeaways too Wink

We did a baby clothes inventory and realised we have loads of newborn and no 0-3 months vests at all!

@Wineandchoccy mmm crunchie! OH has gone to the supermarket with instructions to bring back stuff for a clotted cream and jam scone. The Roddis clotted cream is pasteurized and I'm so excited. Hope you're surviving the soft play!

I have a few sleeping related questions if any of you ladies can help..

What is everyone using when baby is first born for covers/blankets? We have a sleeping bag but it's not suitable under 8.5lbs I think. Is anyone using a Grosnug? Or just blankets?

We have the big cot, Snuzpod, Moses basket for downstairs and pram carrycot to get sheets for. Well we have sheets for all, but should I be getting a waterproof mattress protector for all of them(mainly thinking about the pram and whether we should get one)? And will a waterproof mattress protector make the mattress not breathable? I'm going to buy one from the Snuzpod website for the bedside crib but does anyone have recommendations for the others? Should they all be waterproof?

Final question (sorry Blush) we've set the cot up and the Snuzpod as they did have a slightly chemically/new smell at first. Well the cot did and we wanted to air them out. The smells have gone now. Should I be putting sheets on the mattresses now before baby is here to protect from dust/dog hair etc?

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 19/01/2019 15:52

@melissa112 Oooh I could murder for a good cream scone!! Enjoy!
In regards to setting up cot etc with sheets to protect from dust/ dog hair, I was wondering the same thing. I hadn't even thought of waterproof sheets for carry cot so now wondering the same thing as well 😊

babycatcher411 · 19/01/2019 17:12

We’ve bought a waterproof cover for both e bedside crib and the carrycot. Mothercare do one that’s like a jersey material and is breathable, instead of the PVC ones.
Regarding covering them, we’re just using a blanket till he fits in his sleeping bag, and then will just see what we get on with.

Angelmiracle · 19/01/2019 17:24

You're more than welcome to join @Exhaustedmummy1811 there's plenty of chat here! Im due 29th so could be an April baby as @Wineandchoccy suggests Grin My sis goes back to Australia on 4th April and will be thoroughly annoyed if baby hasn't made an appearance before then 🀣

Angelmiracle · 19/01/2019 17:33

@melissa112 I got away with no waterproof sheet in DS crib and carrycot and only bought one for cotbed. I just tightly tucked in a small flat sheet horizintally across where DS head was (on top of the fitted sheet) so if any possetting etc I just replaced this.

A jersey waterproof protector @babycatcher411 recommends sounds like a good option!

I have a grosnug this time it looks good rather than trying to faff with swaddling but baby might not like it so a blanket would do.

Angelmiracle · 19/01/2019 17:38

@melissa112 and meant to add - we're planning on getting snuzpod next weekend and will probably leave sheets off until 3 weeks or so before EDD!

Wineandchoccy · 19/01/2019 17:53

@melissa112 I used a waterproof protector for the cot but just put a Muslin under the sheet of the pram mattress as it was an odd shape to fit anything.

We used cellular blankets until dd fit gro bags.
