@babycatcher411 thanks again for the advice. Must admit I am envious of all these lie-flats! But as you say @AngelMiracle it's getting the base and the pram to go with... Pricey when you've already got things that are adequate! To be fair, most of our journeys will be v short anyway, and as I'll be C-section I won't be driving anywhere for 6 weeks so I anticipate spending an awful lot of time at home. But our trip home from hospital will be about 45 minutes - 1 hour. So that will be interesting! I've got a friend who lives midway so maybe we will try and make a stop off there!

I'm actually thinking I might see about getting transferred to the local birth centre for a couple of days once the big hospital says it's OK. I was in for nearly a week with DS (complications for both of us - physical for him and mental/emotional for me!!!) and I did find having the support from midwives extremely reassuring. This time around, I don't like the idea of staying at the big hospital as it will be so far away from my son. But our local birth centre has posters up everywhere saying that you can go to stay there after the birth for support if you want to. I guess I'll see how I feel once I'm at that point!

@SquirtlesMumAgain I sat in the back on the way home too - I second asking your DH to drive v carefully to avoid bumps! Actually I think I sat in the back with DS for all of our journeys until I was able to drive myself again.

I'm 31 weeks now. I've decided to pack my hospital bag after next weekend - I need the bag for then as I'm going on a last-hurrah girlie trip with some university friends! I've just ordered a load of Kit & Kin nappies in Size 1 to try out for the first two or three weeks. We did use Naty for a while with DS, but Kit & Kin are marginally cheaper so I'm going to give them a whirl first.

Anyone have any recommendations of places to buy good quality muslins for not toooo much money? Anyone noticed any good sales on? I have relegated most of the ones we had for DS to to the cleaning cupboard. They were white, but are now grey! A lot of them also shrank badly either in the wash or the tumble dryer, and ended up quite small and rough.

We got the joie I level lie flat. This also lies flat in the car (which only the kiddy does otherwise as far as I can see). It's big as a lie flat and we had to make sure that it fit and that Dh or I could still sit in the passenger seat. We plan to have one of us sit in the back anyway if we are going longer distances.
The joie one comes with an I size base and was Β£200 in mamas and papas and mothercare. It also fits on loads of prams as it has the same connectors as maxi Cosi.
Lady in mamas and papas said that even with lie flat no longer then 20-30 mins for first 8 weeks (unless preemie and then add more time/ discuss with manufacturer etc).

cardboard33 · 17/01/2019 13:29

@badbadbeans we've got all of our muslin cloths in boots. Their half price deals meant it was Β£5 for 6 which seems to be the going rate, from my research, although have no idea about the quality. Aldi and oddly JL also were a similar price per cloth. Tesco was more expensive.

Has anyone else watched that Spencer & Vogue have a baby programme on C4? We are totally not Made in Chelsea/reality TV people at all but thought we'd give it a go. It's quite funny light hearted viewing. They go to Anita's House for a v high end JL Nursery appointment to buy all of the stuff they need for the baby and it reckons it's 3 days before the due date. There's no way you'd leave it that late to buy anything at all!!

BadBadBeans · 17/01/2019 14:00

@cardboard33 I ended up buying some from JoJo. They were a bit pricier than I would have liked (Β£9 for 6 and Β£12 for 6) but the ones I had last time were just so horrible that I thought it was worth it... Plus I just got paid slightly more for a freelance job than I was expecting! I will have a look at Boots to top up, thank you. No, I've not seen that programme - does sound rather unbelievable!!

I've spent ages today trying to find my Moses basket mattress protector from last time. Cannot find it anywhere, and as I'm actually reasonably organised with baby stuff I am stumped. I'm so annoyed! It's the one thing from DS's basket that I would happily reuse, as I could have washed it!

Kelsoid · 17/01/2019 14:55

Hey everyone! Little late to the party but can I join here?

Original due date was 04/04 but got moved to 31/03 after 12 week scan! Didn't even think to join a new ante-natal group πŸ™ˆ

Looks like I've got a lot of catching up to do!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 17/01/2019 15:06

Welcome Kelsoid.

I got muslins from Amazon last time and they are still going strong. They did shrink a bit but not too badly, so we fine for leaks and spills.
Have some luxury Aden and Anais ones I treated myself to last time that are still almost as good as new - amusingly in our survival kit my SIL bought us some for baby and picked exactly the same design I got for DS! Great minds and DS is pleased he can keep his too !

babycatcher411 · 17/01/2019 16:05

Caught on with a good deal today in mothercare. Went in to try the car seat out in my other half’s car before we ordered it, but was going to order from MC online as you can get 4% cash back (and no where else was offering any sort of discount). Mum had noticed online that they had 15% off car seats, but when we checked, it was actually only on select seats, and the CloudZ wasn’t one of them. She asked the assistant anyway about a discount and the assistant said it was on all the car seats, proceeded to pull it up to show us on her iPad, only it wasn’t on the CloudZ as we expected, but she said she could put it through with the discount anyway!

babycatcher411 · 17/01/2019 16:06

We never used muslin last time, but everyone seems to rave about them, I’ve bought a pack (Boots half price sale), but what do you actually tend to use them for?

Gronk27 · 17/01/2019 16:14

Lidl was mostly maternity bits rather than new baby things. Got some leggings and couple of tops that would be handy for nursing.

Also got a text from the Government to say they will make a decision about my MA in 6 weeks! SE ladies don’t delay!!

Off to pregnancy yoga tonight, first session.

Gronk27 · 17/01/2019 16:14

Oh and some nursing bras!

Angelmiracle · 17/01/2019 16:32

@Kelsoid welcome!! I remember you from TTC boards! Im due 29th πŸ˜€

SquirtlesMumAgain · 17/01/2019 17:47

@Gronk27 same here with the text saying 6 weeks, so guess that's standard.
Don't be surprised if the nursing bras don't fit at first - your size is likely to change massively in the initial period.

Muslins we used for everything from milk leaks and spills to wiping noses! They are super useful if breastfeeding

Wineandchoccy · 17/01/2019 18:13

DD was a sicky baby so muslins we’re mostly used for catching vomit 🀒
TK maxx always have nice muslins in.

Kelsoid · 17/01/2019 18:26

@Angelmiracle I thought I recognised your name! Was it SMEP or one of the other TTC boards? Either way...hello! Lovely to see a familiar face Smile

Xiana · 17/01/2019 18:30

Hi all!

I have just joined the group,
Great to read so many woman in similar circumstances!

I am due on the 09/03/2019 and she will be our first one!

I live in Wimbledon, London.

Gronk27 · 17/01/2019 18:42

@squirtlesmumagain why they can’t tell you that in advance I don’t know! And cheers, I’m mainly excited about them because they’re black. All my other maternity bras are pink or grey or coral :/

Wineandchoccy · 17/01/2019 18:48

@Kelsoid @Xiana welcome to the group πŸ˜ƒ

I am so ready for my bed tonight, zzzzzzzzzz

HidCat · 17/01/2019 18:56

@Kelsoid and @Xiana congratulations and welcome!

Been in so much discomfort again this afternoon, had a few strong Braxton Hicks and thought I might have to go to the hospital but now they've eased and baby is moving around like a gymnast! Definitely in need of a soak in the bath lol

fanks · 17/01/2019 19:46

We had the stokke lie flat car seat for previous baby and it was ok, took up a lot of room!
Looked at the cybex but it didn't lay flat in car, you have to be careful πŸ™„

BadBadBeans · 17/01/2019 19:55

Welcome @Kelsoid and @Xiana!

I used muslins for catching vomit when winding baby, for stuffing down my bra when feeding (my milk supply was crazy to begin with and I would leak gallons through a brand new breast pad on one side while feeding from the other), for wiping vomit off the sofa... I went through three a day at least I think!

@Gronk27 I hit a problem with my form today as I did supply teaching in my test period. It doesn't count as agency work as I wasn't with an agency - I was a local teacher on the county council payroll - but it wasn't continuous employment so I can't give a start and end date. I ended up having to ring HMRC who said to just put a start date and then explain the situation at the end of the form. She did say it wouldn't matter as I qualify based on my self-employment, but I don't want to give them any reason to delay paying me!

@HidCat get in that bath!!!

Wineandchoccy · 17/01/2019 20:06

The Lidl maternity tops are great they have nursing access so I will probably save them for breastfeeding as they don’t have a lot of room for bump but they don’t look like maternity wear. For Β£5 they do the job.
Small sizing though so go a size bigger than you need.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 17/01/2019 20:53

May I ask where everyone is currently feeling kicks?
I only ever really feel like in the centre between my belly button and pubic bone and also towards my tail bone. I rarely get kicks/punches above the belly button. I was just wondering if this is a symptom of the baby being breech. (Midwife said it was at the last appointment but was hoping it'd move by the next time I see her)

Wineandchoccy · 17/01/2019 21:02

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I am nearly 35 weeks and only just started feeling them above my belly button. At 32 weeks baby was transverse so kicks were low down, baby had moved at my midwife appointment this week

Gronk27 · 17/01/2019 21:07

@badbadbeans all these hoops! Hope it doesn’t delay anything for you.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 17/01/2019 21:34

@assumeitwassomethingclever baby is currently head down (or rather was at the last 3 checks) and I mainly get really low down thuds (think punching gorilla!) but the occasionally more up top and big wave movements, but they are much much rarer.

Can't believe you're almost 35 weeks @wineandchoccy. Doesn't feel that long ago we were waiting for our first two to arrive!
