@exhaustedmummy1811 sending you lots of positive thoughts and hope you get some really good time with your kids this weekend. So sorry you are dealing with this.

@squirtlesmumagain what are you hoping to get? Let us know what you manage to pick up! How did you find out about the market? I’m in london and haven’t heard anyone talking about second hand sales.

@assumeitwassomethingclever goodness I’ve just read what happened to you - some people are completely beyond the pale. Really hoping it gets sorted soon before baby arrives.

I’m 33+3 and have definitely entered the grumpy and uncomfortable stage. I’m also finding DH very annoying- can anyone relate? He keeps saying I should ask if I need help, but it annoys me that he isn’t proactive about doing stuff i’d normally do. We have a cleaner/shop online and batch cook so day to day there’s not much to do but I can’t do much easily and am aware I want the flat to be ready for the baby. Maybe I need to calm down. Last night his ski jacket was in the washing machine so I reminded him to take it out before he went to bed, only to get up this morning to find he took the jacket out but left the rest of the load of washing in the machine! We’re going to have words I think...

SquirtlesMumAgain · 09/02/2019 10:37

They definitely don't understand how difficult it is to do things later on @Nightmanagerfan! My brain works fine but my body doesn't!

Manged to get a Wallaby 2 helicopter from Fireman Sam for DS that he keeps asking for, for Β£1 and a moses basket so we can have one upstairs and one downstairs for Β£5. There were loads of clothes and baby toys - definitely handy for first timers who have nothing. Annoyingly I wanted a maternity dress I could feed in for post birth that I could pack now, but they didn't have much at all in that area which was annoying. Going to have to look elsewhere.

The NCT sales we had in Surrey were good (and much better organised as it was by item rather than tables) but it was worth a trip. Definitely worth a look what is around as obviously things get used for such a short time you can find things that are pretty much new

cardboard33 · 09/02/2019 11:27

@squirtlesmumagain I feel your pain!! The first one we went to was way more organised than the second one in terms of queue etc. The second one we had to queue for 30 mins just to get in (this was having arrived before the start) as there are so many people. I really like them though and have got some really good stuff, mostly new or barely used.

@nightmanagerfan I'm in London too and there's def loads around. there's probs about 5 or 6 locations within easy travel of me. Just go on the website or Facebook page and they've got a calendar of dates/locations. Big places like Wimbledon seem to have one a month and then others it's once a term. You can download 241 vouchers too, although it's only Β£2 each.

We've found a mix of people there. Some people clearly want to make their money back so sell for more charity shop/supermarket prices (eg Β£1 per baby grow) whereas others are clearly just there to get rid and are selling them at 9 for Β£1 (for example) so it pays to wander around a bit initially just to see what the going rate is. I got my TENS machine (unused) for Β£3 and it's sold for Β£50 new.

melissa112 · 09/02/2019 11:34

Yesterday was my last day in work and the last day I have to take DDog back and forward to be looked after during the day while I'm at work. Took her to the vets this morning to get a repeat prescription and all her flea/worm tablet so she shouldn't need to go back in the car unless in an emergency.

So as she's a big long haired German shepherd the back of my car , despite having a protector over, has dog hair everywhere and muddy footprints on the seat. My question is whether it is ok to have the car shampood? I'm not sure where I read it but thought I couldn't use oven cleaner and or carpet cleaner but I do want the car clean before baby comes.

Also, TMI sorry but is anyone having increased discharge? I thought I'd leaked a little earlier but nope!

Nightmanagerfan · 09/02/2019 12:36

@cardboard33 thanks for the tip - just checked and there’s one coming up near me but a week before my due date so will probably have everything by then!

@melissa112 no idea Re car shampoo but I would think it’s ok if you’re not the one applying it?

And yes to way more discharge. V unpleasant

CaseofEllen · 09/02/2019 13:13

@melissa112 I've used carpet cleaner and oven cleaner since I've been pregnant Hmm I haven't heard that you can't have car shampooed but if you're worried maybe take it in on a day where you don't need to use it for 1/2 days afterwards to be sure?

And yes to extra discharge lately! (34+2 here)

I'm after some advice if anyone has any? For the last week or so I've not felt right. Crampy, exhausted and a bit of a funny tummy.. came down with a little cold a couple of days ago and put it down to that. Saw the midwife Thursday (34 weeks exactly) and she said I was nearly 3/5ths engaged which was quite early for first pregnancy but wasn't worried. Since then I've been having a lot of cramps (although no pattern), sore back, funny tummy and feeling nauseous. Yesterday I could hardly walk because I felt so much pressure in my vagina and bum (sorry tmi!). DP thinks I should ring hospital but I'm saying this is all normal stuff at this stage?

Hope everyone is feeling okay! Especially those who are having monitoring and hospital visits. It can be so worrying, sending positive thoughts Thanks xx

SquirtlesMumAgain · 09/02/2019 13:22

Sounds normal @caseofEllen but I'm not an expert. I get lots of pressure and tightness which I'm pretty sure are braxton hicks (I didn't get any last time). When it's labour you know, I promise!

I'm pretty sure I was similarly engaged at 34 ish weeks last time - it was the last midwife appointment that I got as I was supposed to see her again 2 days after DS arrived for my 38 week appointment. It was about 4 years ago so exact amount engaged I can't be sure but I am pretty certain it was more than half!
I'm 34+3 so basically at the same point as you - seeing the midwife on Tuesday to see what is going on, but she did say 2nd babies can bobble about right until the end rather than engaging and staying there. I definitely feel points where she is really low in my pelvis but then next day she'll be wiggling up high again... Eugh!

I noticed my bump significantly drop the night before I gave birth - something to keep an eye out for first timers.

Wineandchoccy · 09/02/2019 13:35

@CaseofEllen it does sound normal at least I hope it is as that’s how I have been feeling Confused

I’m 37 + 6 today and Braxton Hicks have ramped up we are taking dd to soft play so she can run round like a loony and I can sit and do nothing for an hour. 1 more week to work I can’t wait to finish now.

melissa112 · 09/02/2019 13:56

@CaseofEllen first time mum so not sure what is normal or not but I did read something similar on another thread and the person got reassured it was normal.

Are Braxton hicks painful? I had a really bad cramp yesterday that lasted about 90 seconds but was around the middle of my belly. It was really painful though and I read that BH weren't meant to be painful?

I think I'll get the car cleaned after next weekend then as I don't think I'll be in it much after that until I go into labour.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 09/02/2019 14:02

Not painful compared to labour, but I would definitely say generally painful but not so bad as to take a painkiller.

CaseofEllen · 09/02/2019 14:19

@SquirtlesMumAgain @Wineandchoccy @melissa112 thanks for the reassurance! Glad I'm not the only one although not so glad you are all experiencing pain/discomfort too οΏΌ I want baby to stay put for a few more weeks but equally very, very over being pregnant now!

@melissa112 I've had some painful BHs too, I also read they shouldn't be but midwife said sometimes they can be. Especially towards the end πŸ€”

When I see the threads for babies due August/September time I always feel so relieved that I'm near the end of pregnancy and not just beginning πŸ˜‚ xx

Wineandchoccy · 09/02/2019 15:34

@melissa112 they are uncomfortable but definitely not as painful as the real thing πŸ˜©πŸ™ˆ

melissa112 · 09/02/2019 16:21

Oh no!I thought it was pretty painful and had convinced myself it was the beginning haha. Wonder how I'll cope with the real thing πŸ™ˆ

Wineandchoccy · 09/02/2019 16:45

@melissa112 Drugs lots of them Grin

melissa112 · 09/02/2019 17:18

@Wineandchoccy 🀣🀣

Ive just gone back to find the hospital bag lists that some of you posted and have made mine too. I'm struggling with nursing bras and when i need them? Are they something just used for one baby is here? So far my normal bras have fit ok and I'm usually an E or F cup. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to get them from? Online or go in and get measured? And how many to get? Are they the crop top type or the type where you pull down one side? Sorry for all the questions, I'm useless!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 09/02/2019 17:35

Measure yourself on the Boob or Bust calculator (www.booborbust.com) then buy something stretchy. Ideally measure around 36 weeks but any time around now is fine (I moved into the Royce Blossom at about 33 weeks)

melissa112 · 09/02/2019 19:05

Thanks @SquirtlesMumAgain I'll do that. X

Gronk27 · 09/02/2019 19:39

Well, I made it to London and back without going into labour! I have to say although I enjoyed it and we left plenty of time to get everywhere and factored in naps, I am knackered! All the walking and steps and having a small case just made me so achey and hot and swollen! Didn't get offered a seat on the tube the only time there wasn't one available, thankfully we only had two stops (otherwise I would have asked). As we were getting off a woman offered it to her friend because 'I'm wearing trainers'. I commented to my Mum as we got off 'I'm wearing a baby'.

HidCat · 09/02/2019 20:01

Another one here for increased discharge and painful Braxton Hicks. My poor colleague popped into my office just as one caught me off guard and I genuinely flinched and yelped - she thought I was in labour! Never seen her look so scared lol.

@melissa112 I've already got some nursing bras and I'm wearing them as they're comfy lol. But also still wearing normal ones.

@Gronk27 I wish I could've seen her face!

melissa112 · 09/02/2019 21:16

@Gronk27 glad you've had a nice time in London! I'm well impressed with all the walking, I struggle to walk to the bathroom 🀣 glad it was uneventful labour wise!

@HidCat think I'll treat myself to some comfy nursing bras then! I'm only 35+2 but had no big boob growth so hoping if I measure now then they'll be ok!

Gronk27 · 09/02/2019 21:33

@hidcat I look so pregnant now as well. I think she was either totally oblivious or very good at pretending to be.

@melissa112 thank you, it was tough at times especially when baby was hanging around bladder/cervix. Just had horrendous cramp in my calf so think my body is telling me to rest now!

Currently feverishly googling breastfeeding friendly dresses for weddings! We have three this year. I don't even know if I'll be able to yet. I have quite the selection of nursing bras, my Lidl ones are a bit big so hoping they'll be perfect for hospital and just after.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 09/02/2019 22:15

Have a look at the Can I Breastfeed In It? Group on Facebook for dress ideas @Gronk27
Closet London often have some good options and have a bf friendly filter (I presume they still do)

Angelmiracle · 09/02/2019 23:03

@Gronk27 we accepted an invitation to a wedding in March I'll be 38 weeks. Its all very close to home and my entire immediate family are all going. I couldn't bring myself to decline!! I said yes we could go provided baby doesn't make an early appearance. I'm already regretting accepting it!! But still have 5 weeks to pull out I suppose.

OP posts:
Wineandchoccy · 10/02/2019 06:57

@Gronk27 I had a normal dress adapted for dd’s christening. I got a dressmaker to put invisible zips in the seams you couldn’t see them at all. So might be worth looking into if you can’t get anything that is nursing specific.

Gronk27 · 10/02/2019 09:52

@wineandchoccy not sure I'll be able to fit in any of my outfits! But always an option further down the line. After not 'shopping' (except maternity obviously) for 9 months I think I fancy something new! But like you say choice is limited.

@angelmiracle Our first wedding is on the 5th May you might remember we didn't know whether to accept or decline but the couple have said they don't mind us deciding at the last minute which is kind of them. I can see why you'd be a bit on the fence at 38 but you can only see how you feel can't you assuming baby hasn't made an appearance or in the process of doing so!

@squirtlesmumagain I've joined the group but find it's lots of people asking for suggestions which is hard to trawl through but seen they do listings so going to have a browse. Not heard of Closet London thanks!
