@Gronk27 is this your first? Yesterday my midwife told me that only 2% of first time babies are born before their due date. It has made me massively relax as I kept worrying about going into labour and refused to make any plans this month!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 07/02/2019 10:52

I'm not sure your midwife is right there @PartridgeJoan - of those I know (Inc the 50 odd women in the mumsnet group last time) it's probably closer to 30-40% are before their due date (with probably 2% before 36 weeks)
Do you think she meant the latter, that it was such a small number before the term period?

PartridgeJoan · 07/02/2019 11:00

@SquirtlesMumAgain hmm I did think it was small! She definitely said pre-40 weeks. I wonder where that info came from... will check!

PartridgeJoan · 07/02/2019 11:02

Sorry just to clarify she said 2% for first timers - not sure if that makes a difference!

I have clung onto that stat as we're moving house at 38 weeks but maybe I should consider the possibility that baby will arrive early!

Hermagsjesty · 07/02/2019 11:06

Both my two arrived at 39wks - saw the midwife yesterday and she reckons it could be the same again this time as I’m 36+5 now and he’s 4/5 engaged. Hoping she’s right& he’s not late as I’m not sure I can stand a whole other month of waddling around with his head in my pelvis!!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 07/02/2019 11:12

It was a similar balance in our mumsnet group last time between 1st timers and others so mostly first timers and a good chunk were pre-40 weeks. Outside of that everyone was a first timer and it was an equal split really between bang on due date, early and late.

Our NCT course leader last time said the last baby due was never the last baby and made a similar suggestion that it was a fair spread of when they arrived.

They do rather put in an appearance when they want to, so definitely be prepped and know where your hospital bag is when moving!!! They don't wait for you to be conveniently ready from my experience either... DS couldn't even wait 2 days for me to get through my birthday!!!

Wineandchoccy · 07/02/2019 11:50

I was in the same group as @SquirtlesMumAgain and agree a lot were pre 40 weeks me included. I was convinced I would be late last time but dd had other ideas and my waters went at just over 39 weeks.

I am so tired today got my penultimate meeting that requires travelling to though so mat leave is in sight

babycatcher411 · 07/02/2019 12:27

The 2% I think she is referring to is baby’s that come on their due date.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 07/02/2019 12:46

That would make sense @babycatcher411.

Hope the meeting goes OK @wineandchoccy. Must be exciting for the end to be in sight!

Gronk27 · 07/02/2019 12:47

I know it’s not that likely. I guess I just want a back up plan in my head! I’m packing very light as I will have to wheel my case around so not inclined to take anything other than my notes. Hospitals must have emergency spares?! And my Mum can always go and buy some stuff if absolutely necessary. Unless there’s anything absolutely top of the list?!

The stats seem to keep changing with everyone I speak to. I was told most first babies are on average 5 days β€˜late’ but of course most of us could go into labour anytime really.

CaseofEllen · 07/02/2019 13:28

The only stat I've heard is that 5% of babies arrive on due date πŸ€” it's all so confusing as so many people say different things! This is my first so have no previous experience to go on but had my 34 week midwife appointment this morning and baby is 2/5ths engaged and growing big on the scans so she thinks they may think about inducing at 38 weeks..

CaseofEllen · 07/02/2019 13:30

@Gronk27 they must have provisions for stuff like this! Plus you'll be in London so there will definitely be somewhere open at all hours if your mum had to get you anything. Good idea to travel light

BadBadBeans · 07/02/2019 14:34

I'm really sorry for all of those having stresses and worries at the moment. @WhatALearningCurve, @ExhaustedMummy1811, @SquirtlesMumAgain and anyone else I've missed - I hope you're being well looked-after.

@Gronk27 I'm sure another hospital would take you. Imagine if you were working up to, say, 38 weeks and had a meeting scheduled in a different city at 37 weeks and went into labour. It must happen to some people! Take your notes, and your mum can go and get anything you need.

I've set up the Moses basket today on its stand, with a little fabric bird a friend sewed for me tied to the handle - it looks flipping adorable. Also washed the pram that I picked up secondhand yesterday. The last bits that I've ordered for my hospital bag have arrived in the post, so now all I have to do is to decant toiletries into travel bottles, and I'm done. This is significantly more prepared than I was for DS!

Was it @ballanj who was enjoying ironing muslins? I don't really iron as a rule (weddings, job interviews and sewing projects only!) but I have ironed all the muslins after reading that, and golly gosh they feel so soft and lovely! I've also treated myself to two ironed nightshirts for hospital. That's my ironing quota filled for the year Grin

The little baby doll has turned up for DS as well. I hope he likes it!

Gronk27 · 07/02/2019 14:42

@caseofellen @badbadbeans thanks for the reassurance. I know it’s logical but just getting my head around it! Notes are packed.

babycatcher411 · 07/02/2019 14:46

@Gronk27 they will have enough for you to make do, emergencies happen. You may just end up having to make do in a sexy NHS gown, some beaut dispossible knickers and a baby dressing in the most hideous insert dreadful colour knitted outfit that was in the just-in-case box they put donations in πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‰

Only consideration I would say, is in the unlikely event baby makes an appearance, how would you get them home? I.e car seat?

ballanj · 07/02/2019 15:04

Have been catching up on everyone's posts, hope everyone is feeling okay generally. I had an episode yesterday where I felt a bit uncertain about Hulk's movements appearing less frequent from the Tuesday night through to Wednesday late morning. So called maternity triage at 12:30 yesterday and they saw me at 2:30pm and all is well. I think I was being a bit over cautious and typically felt movement as soon as I started to make my way home. But I'm glad I went for my own peace of mind. Had a good sob when I came out the hospital! He's making up for it today and moving lots.

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I've definitely had some kicks/movements that feel like they're aimed towards my bum. He is definitely head down and this was confirmed again yesterday so maybe he is head butting.

Also, I only realised yesterday that whilst I have a growth chart in my notes, the midwife at the hospital spotted that nothing has been plotted on it ever since I've been getting measured! I've been measured every week and told all normal so hadn't really given it much thought. The midwife at the hospital did plot my growth on there from being measured and all in range still. @babycatcher411 Is it quite common if measurements are in range for midwives to not necessarily chart or log them?

ballanj · 07/02/2019 15:07

@BadBadBeans I'm not sure I'm the one who loves ironing muslins but can say I've ironed some myself! My sister told me 'you won't do that for long after he arrives' 🀣

BadBadBeans · 07/02/2019 15:20

@ballanj Oh dear, I'm terrible at remembering who's said what! And the thread moves so fast these days that it's hard to skim back and find who it was! Ha yep though, I did think to myself, 'This is the only time these muslins are going to get ironed.' I'm glad your movements were all okay in the end - I rushed in for DS with reduced movements and I remember vividly how panicked I felt.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 07/02/2019 15:28

I'm not sure if anyone remembers but just after new year I was involved in a car crash with a sorn car coming into my lane and ramming me off a roundabout. Since then he's been texting me a few times a week but I think his insurers must have now said he's going to lose the case. He's been calling me about 10 times a day. Started off from his number and has now moved onto a blocked caller ID claiming to be someone from the insurers asking me to confirm liability. I've had 9 missed calls from him already today. My insurers have told me to block his number or ignore his calls but I'm concerned he's going to turn up at the house as we had to swap addresses at the roadside. I know this isn't baby related at all but just wondering if anyone had experienced anything similar or had any advice? I don't like to admit it but I'm a bit intimidated.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 07/02/2019 15:33

I think the thing with reduced movements is it is so vague and naturally we worry about these tiny humans we are growing!
It isn't that the advice is bad, just too general I guess but they can't pin it down any more as by doing that is the chance they miss the baby that needs checking.

We all know they have busy days and periods but it is just how quiet they are "allowed" to be on those less busy days I find a constant concern!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 07/02/2019 15:35

@assumeitwassomethingclever sorry cross posted with you. Did the Insurance company give you any more advice? That sounds like harassment to me! Only good thing to take is it sounds like you are going to win the case and surely he is giving more evidence to the fact he was at fault if he can't let it drop!

Angelmiracle · 07/02/2019 15:54

@Badbadbeans @ballanj I believe @PassTheAfterEights started the ironing muslins trend Wink Don't even tempt me I have mine just washed and tumble dried mine this week.

@ballanj glad you got seen and all is well with baby.

Seen consultant today- she said if they become quiet from the usual phone right away even if it's every day.

Growth scan today went great estimated to be 4lb11oz at 32+6 And still on 50th percentile! I keep waiting on the growth spurt to happen but DS was well above 50th at this stage.

Still haven't had my birth choices appointment through so they are following that up for me.

babycatcher411 · 07/02/2019 16:01

@ballanj to me that seems strange, because how does the next person know whether it plots in line/above/below what it did before, even if it’s within the β€˜correct’ centiles. IUGWIM.

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever if you’re concerned, I’d probably ring 101 for advice, at least then they can log it and have a record should it become an issue

SharonO225 · 07/02/2019 16:20

@babycatcher411 can u advise? I have a small patch about the size of a 20p on the left side of my bump. It's raised with little bumps and itches like crazy Confused. conveniently I have been at hosp apps with midwives the past 2 days in a row and it didn't itch during the apps so it slipped my mind to ask them then, but last night and today it's as bad as ever again. Have had it around a week now. Dosnt seem to be getting bigger and I haven't changed creams or washing powders etc. Just wondering if it's anything to be concerned about or simply an irritant lol

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 07/02/2019 16:24

@SquirtlesMumAgain They just said to block the number and they'll speak to his insurers and tell them to tell him to stop contacting me. I hope you're right about him showing the insurers what he's really like!

@babycatcher411 thank you. I think that'll have to be my next port of call x
