So glad it's not just me that's had the debilitating FANNNYYYY DAGGERRRRSSSSSS moments πŸ˜‚

OH literally was killing himself laughing yesterday when I got half way through loading the washing machine and had to "give myself a minute"

His latest 'playful trick' is to kick my ball when I'm sat on it... he's discovered that it gives me fanny daggers again! πŸ™ˆ

Miami81 · 04/02/2019 10:53

@melissa112 I'm afraid that I don't have anything helpful to say about ddog and potential cat do. Your OH sounds like he has a plan and will sort it out once he is home. I really think the risk is minimal from the way you have described.
I am glad you were seen. Reduced movements are a concern any time literally until baby is born. They are the only tangible thing that give indications that baby is well, which is why so much focus is on movements.
Just to reiterate for anyone else; changes in babies pattern/ movements (whether reduced or very much increased) are a concern and should be checked. Poking baby and getting a movement in response doesn't count. Hiccups don't count. Baby does not move less in the days leading up to birth, babies do not run out of room, the actual movements will change (more of a rolling motion etc) but the amount of activity should not change.
Tommy's the baby charity and kicks count both have really good guides about movements.
I know that the movement thing is very difficult to quantify, but basically if you don't feel right then it is best to get checked. As @babycatcher411 says they will always prefer to be reassuring an anxious mom that everything is ok, rather then the horrible reality of the alternative.

Miami81 · 04/02/2019 10:55

Also FANNY DAGGERS I think my baby is footling breech at the moment and all she does all day long is kick my cervix. It is so sore it's unbelievable.

HidCat · 04/02/2019 11:48

@TheWanderlust next time he tries that punch him in the nuts! If he complains just say "you hit my balls, I'll hit yours".

@melissa112 if your husband is doing it you'll be fine so long as he washes his hands thoroughly. I've had to pick up neighbours cat poo using gloves and a plastic bag for protection with no issues so try not to panic.

@Miami81 ouch - hope LO turns soon. I think mine has moved down as lots more discomfort in the pelvis today - period type pains and back ache.

Gronk27 · 04/02/2019 11:49

@melissa112 all I can say is we have a cat DH scoops the poop everyday and there must be traces in the house. The advice is never to remove pets all together (although apparently there are some overzealous HVs!) but to avoid direct contact-although obviously you don’t touch it even if you are scooping! And to have good hand hygiene. Our vet was very reassuring. I think the risk is very, very small to start with. I hope you manage to stay calm and remember you don’t know if there is cat pooh, if your dog will bring it in and if that is the case you will very likely be aware (stinky!) and can avoid it and keep clean. Hope that helps.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 04/02/2019 11:53

Welcome @CaseofEllen I started off feeling like that and couldn't get comfy. Now I have the flu. I woke up this morning literally in a puddle of sweat and thought "omg, have my waters gone?!" πŸ˜‚ I hope for you though it's not going to come out into anything. I'm feeling reasonably prepared for the birth, it's just coming home with an actual baby I'm starting to worry about. The majority of me cannot wait though!

WhatALearningCurve · 04/02/2019 12:10

I've decided the biggest sign that I'm nearing the end is that when I going through my check list of what I need - the things getting short listed are getting less "cutesy" and more essential and in bulk ha

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 04/02/2019 13:55

How's everyone doing on the stretch mark front?
I've just noticed that I've got 4 quite big blueish purple ones under my belly button. I know they're inevitable but I was hoping I'd not get any!

babycatcher411 · 04/02/2019 14:38

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I got that fat (as well as pregnant) first time round I’ve still got plenty of room to fit into yet. I got a tonne of stretch marks last time though.

Is anyone doing antenatal hand expression? I started today, as I’m now 36+1 and have to say, quite impressed with how much I’ve expressed off on the first go!

ballanj · 04/02/2019 14:48

@Gronk27 with you on a due date window so to speak. I was talking to a colleague and a woman from another department who's rather eccentric and pretty much just says things without thinking asked me when I was due last week and when I replied with a specific date, she looked at my bump and went 'oh, quite a way to go then' she may as well have said 'you look f**ing massive surely it can't be that long' I said to her 'just what a heavily pregnant woman needs to hear!' So now I'm just saying 'not long to go'. Some people should come with instruction manuals around pregnant women!!

ballanj · 04/02/2019 14:52

@melissa112 I'm glad you went and got seen for your movement concerns. You really must just do what feels right for you and it doesn't matter if all is well and you go in and out a zillion times for reassurance, it's worth it. I've had my little one have quiet days but I always tell myself the moment that I'M not happy or comfortable I will get myself over to the hospital to get checked out. Everyone is different. And don't worry about work, it's really the least important thing for us all to be thinking about at this stage. Obviously I know there's a fair few self employed people on here so everyone's circumstances are different, but I'm sure we all agree that healthy and happy babies are what matters after this long journey we've all been on!

Gronk27 · 04/02/2019 15:04

@assumeitwassomethingclever I’ve been pretty lucky so far but started to notice some slight red marks now. I used to be bigger so hoping I’ve got a bit of stretch. I am prone to stretch marks though, I got them with puberty and weight gain.

@ballanj people are just so charming. Well a β€˜full term’ baby is 37-42 weeks, everyone carries differently and babies move around so stick that in your pipe. As I said before I can’t go to a check out without a full blown bump confersation. People say how long left but I just reply with how far along I am.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 04/02/2019 16:26

@Gronk27 fingers crossed yours stay at bay! Mine literally seem to have appeared overnight.
I just started packing my hospital bag but had to stop as I started crying that my nipple shields won't stay on. What's wrong with me!?!!
(I know nipple shields aren't recommended but I got the medela ones for Β£3 from my local kiddicare so thought why not! I'm also not packing them in my hospital bag just came across them and thought I'd see what they were like... wish I hadn't!)

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 04/02/2019 16:31

To clarify... I don't mean what's wrong with me that the shields won't stay on but for crying about it πŸ˜‚

Gronk27 · 04/02/2019 16:57

@assumeitwassomethingclever bless you, I’ve been crying off and on for about two weeks about the most random crap.

Hermagsjesty · 04/02/2019 17:07

@assumeitwassomethingclever I’m crying over stupid things all the time now too!! I knocked over a cup of tea the other day and was literally sobbing about it and my 7yo just said very quietly to DH β€œI think Mummy’s ready for the baby to come out now, isn’t she?!” YES, I AM!! Smile

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 04/02/2019 17:17

@Hermagsjesty hahaha! That's brilliant. Bless their little heart!

melissa112 · 04/02/2019 18:06

Thanks all. Looked out of the window earlier and saw the cat doing it's business in next doors garden so convinced it might be doing it in mine when I'm at work. Once the dog is back on Friday I'm hoping her scent will put it off. We've had her at my mum's as I've been in the hospital so much I didn't want her to be on her own and she goes there during the day when I'm at work anyway as there's always one of my 5 brothers around due to.work shifts, college etc

I'm glad I went in with the movements. I couldn't forgive myself if I didn't and this was the one time he wasn't ok. One midwife seemed a little bit curt and said they'd have to start the whole monitoring process again now I'd come in two days after my scan but I'd much rather that than the alternative!

With regards to stretch marks. Mine just seemed to appear one day. I remember asking my partner if I had any and he said no. A few days later I looked in the mirror and saw quite a few under my belly button. My friend said when she was pregnant she used bio oil every day and cocoa butter every evening and on the day before she gave birth she woke up and had loads! I haven't been putting anything on my belly and now just thinking ah well.

I've also been crying over nothing too. Not anxiety related, just hormones. All of a sudden I'll feel really emotional and want to cry but can't even tell myself what I'm crying about as I just don't know. Sometimes I cry because I'm overwhelmed and can't wait to meet little one, other times he'll kick me and I'll cry because I've convinced myself in that one moment that I'm not ready for all this mentally or physically.

Really really need to get sorted on the hospital bag. Two ladies in the triage last night were moved onto delivery and given steroids. One was definitely in labour and the other they thought might also come early. They were both 33 weeks. Made me a bit nervous as I'm 35 weeks on Thursday.

Does anyone know how likely baby is to come before due date? Is it true that your first is more likely to be late?

ballanj · 04/02/2019 18:17

@Hermagsjesty oh I can just picture that, bless you!

ballanj · 04/02/2019 18:24

@melissa112 I'm 35 weeks on Thursday too. And feeling just in a bad mood today. Went and got my shitty nightwear from primark and underwear so big it could easily cover London, at lunchtime today. Then had a heated discussion with the other half over what still needs doing in the house and was trying to tell him that I just want the baby to have a nursery so that I can finally put his things away properly instead of everything just piled up in heaps in various rooms. Not helped by being told things might not be done in time. Just felt like he doesn't get that this is just adding to my feelings of not having control over much these days, be it my emotions, my body or when this baby decides to arrive.

Just having a bit of shit Monday to be fair! Sorry for the swearing :-/ Some days I've just had enough of nodding and smiling and today is one of them!

Gronk27 · 04/02/2019 18:27

@melissa112 statistically most first are late of course there’s always a chance. I’ve been told 37-42 weeks is the period. I plan to be totally ready at 36 weeks-after my midwife appointment. I’m 35 weeks on Wed and heading to London for two nights so if it happens, it happens!!

Gronk27 · 04/02/2019 18:47

@ballanj sorry must have cross posted. I hear you! Our house is still chaos, DH seems oblivious to all his clutter and also keeps saying well we don’t need it straight away. I had to point out that even if we don’t have to have a cot in the nursery yet we do need somewhere to store her clothes, nappies, etc, etc. That’s going to be difficult with his desk and boxes of crap in the way. I’m all for getting the important stuff done first but how long will it drag on once we have a tiny human here. Also, don’t think they understand the frustration of looking at all this stuff that needs doing but not being able to do it ourselves!

And don’t get me started on the is everything ready? Have you done the nursery? Packed your bag? texts. Literally nothing is ready, thanks for checking in.

melissa112 · 04/02/2019 18:56

Did you go up a few sizes on the underwear? Everyone says big knickers but not sure if that's big as in full on massive knickers, or bigger size than what you are? Same with nightie? No idea what size I am currently.

Oh I hear you about not having everything in.the house sorted! I noticed we have a bit of black mould on the wall behind the toilet seat. I can't stand mould and no idea how I've not seen it. Even though baby won't be in there I really want it sorted before I'll feel happy that we are 'ready' for him should he come. This is a job that the other half promised before Christmas, then just after, then before the end of Jan. Now he's promised Thursday... there's also other bits around the house that I just can't do. I have a mini list of all the little.jobs I can do myself once I'm off after this week but can't start any until he does his bits. @ballanj that's exactly how I feel, like I have no control over it. Really frustrating!

Wineandchoccy · 04/02/2019 19:32

@melissa112 my waters went at 39 + 2 last time and dd arrived at 39 + 4 was so not expecting to be early I will probably be 2 weeks late this time.

I’m normally a size 12 so have bought size 14-16 knickers.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 04/02/2019 19:57

DS arrived at 38 weeks plus half an hour (1st baby) naturally going into labour.
@wineandchoccy and my last birth group had a good mix of late and early, and a few bang on time. No major noticeable pattern though I don't think.

Nighties I bought my same size ish and knickers a size up generally, although I did get one pack where I read the US sizing by accident whilst chasing DS around the shop and so 2 sizes bigger and they are epic!!! Absolutely massive and give it a few weeks PP and they will fall down but right now it is just massive comfort!
