@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I was hoping to avoid them but I've got a few now - I didn't have them with DS so I find them quite fascinating.

@Hermagsjesty your LO is brilliant!

@melissa112 I think it's close to 50/50 on whether they're early or late. I remember feeling deceived by everyone insisting baby would be late and at least 8hrs in labour and then having him a day early with a short labour! The only statistic I can find is that around 80% arrive between weeks 37 and 42.

@ballanj no need to apologise - I think we can all relate!

melissa112 · 04/02/2019 21:20

@Wineandchoccy ok thanks I'm also a size 12 so will get 14-16 too. I somehow keep telling myself that there's only 5 and a half weeks left, forgetting that I most likely will go over!

BadBadBeans · 04/02/2019 21:32

Had my 34 week appointment today and my bump is now measuring on the 95th percentile on my customised growth chart. ARGH! DS was 8lbs 12oz when he was born at a day shy of 42 weeks - if this one continued along this line then it would be nearly 10lbs at 42 weeks! And I am really quite a small build. The midwife said it was a bloody good job I am having a planned C-section! I think I can probably pack the tiny baby clothes RIGHT at the bottom of the hospital bag, as I don't think I'm going to be needing them!

@melissa112 I went up one size on underwear and will do the same with a nightie for hospital.

@ballanj I can empathise with feeling frustrated about the house. I want to sort things out and I just can't until DH gets the things that I can't do, done! I am also conscious that the longer it takes, the bigger and more tired I'm getting, and the harder it's going to be for me to be able to do anything. I accidentally fell asleep at 8pm last night and slept for nearly 11 hours! ELEVEN HOURS! How am I supposed to get anything done when I am sleeping like a toddler?!?!?!

ballanj · 04/02/2019 22:11

@Gronk27 @melissa112 @BadBadBeans amen ladies knowing I'm not alone. I came home tonight and stomped upstairs and tried on my shitty nightie and massive knickers and the other half came up and gave me a hug. He has redeemed himself by saying I still appear 'narrow' despite the massive bump. I think deep down he does realise, think he's afraid of the hormones. To be fair they take me by surprise!

Agreed to order our wardrobe doors tomorrow and I'm picking out our bedroom furniture. Told him we'll be waiting a year if I leave that to him. I just want to feel like I'm doing something I guess, because my size is restricting a lot of what I can do physically.

I'm aiming to have my hospital bag packed by this weekend. At least it's only my stuff left to go in now.

ballanj · 04/02/2019 22:14

@Gronk27 I know what you mean about people asking about having things ready. When I have to say no it makes me feel I appear really disorganised when I am the most organised person I know! I think my work friends know not to ask now save me groaning and grumbling at them πŸ˜‚

ballanj · 04/02/2019 22:15

Oh and finally picked up some Anusol. Please let it work quickly! That's my last whinge for the day I promise!

ballanj · 04/02/2019 22:17

@melissa112 on underwear I normally wear size 10 but I've sized up to a 14 to make sure nice and comfy. On nightwear, I've gone up to a 12/14. That's based on baggy nightdress. I'd say go up to sizes from your norm to be on the safe side.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 05/02/2019 09:40

I'm starting to think I've overestimated my big knicker size... I'm a size 12 usually but I've bought size 18 pants. πŸ˜‚ my thinking was I don't want anything tight around my scar if I do have to have a c section.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 05/02/2019 09:41

Also got a size 20-22 nightie... πŸ˜‚

Gronk27 · 05/02/2019 10:01

My MIL ordered me a 20-22 robe (normally a 12) she said it would wrap round us both and it does actually fit quite well at the moment. I wasn’t thrilled at the the time though haha!

CaseofEllen · 05/02/2019 10:06

Morning everyone! I am so frustrated today, I've had period pains for 4/5 days now and frequent Braxton Hicks, today is the first day that I feel so ready to have this baby that I could just cry and cry. Totally relate to everyone talking about crying for silly reasons πŸ˜‚

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I have also sized up a lot on the knickers and nightie front! Was a size 16 before pregnancy and gone for a size 20 knickers and 20-22 nightie. I figure comfort is key!

SharonO225 · 05/02/2019 10:41

Just on the underwear subject ladies.. comfort is definitely key. But will my 3 previous pregnancy's Iv fitted into my regular size knickers immediately after birth (all be it the full size kidney warmer types Wink) I did pack the next size up for comfort but found that they went very loose with the maternity pads on (saggy bottom) which allowed the pad to slip and leak. I didn't have a section so didn't need to worry about anything rubbing on a wound but I did feel so much more comfortable and leak free with my normal size underwear (full briefs) as they held pads in place perfect. It might be worth packing a few of your regular size to take with you too just incase xx

SharonO225 · 05/02/2019 10:42

**with my previous ...not will Confused

Wineandchoccy · 05/02/2019 11:18

Just had my midwife appointment I’m 37 + 2 and baby is 2/5 engaged it’s getting a bit real now Grin

Hermagsjesty · 05/02/2019 11:28

Oh wow, @wineandchoccy that’s so exciting!! I’ve got the midwife tomorrow (36+4). He was head down but back to back last time she saw me so I’m hoping he’s wriggled into a better position now!

Wineandchoccy · 05/02/2019 11:30

@Hermagsjesty get on all fours scrubbing floors Grin my kitchen floor has never been as clean!
Good luck hope he has shifted into position

babycatcher411 · 05/02/2019 12:01

Has anyone bought/hired a TEN/ms machine? If so, which did you go for and why?

PassTheAfterEights · 05/02/2019 12:18

Hi all πŸ‘‹ long stretch of radio silence from me, sorry not to have been keeping up but lovely to have a check in on recent updates and really glad everyone seems to be doing well in general. Can't believe how close some of you are getting, suddenly feeling very excited for everyone x

32+5 and after a pretty kind six months have found the last few weeks a bit more challenging, emotions go quickly from under control to raging and back again, not helped by a generally poor night's sleep most nights 😬 Relieved to read others are struggling with the waterworks too!! Lost some or all of mucous plug a couple of weeks ago, made for a tense few days but all seems fine!

Seeing MW later today then prenatal pilates, then back to ironing muslins so so satisfying Are most people on mat leave now? How are you filling your days? Still have a chest of drawers to sand and paint and our third generation cot to put back together once the metal comes back from the rechromers - feeling excited to get the nursery together.

Harley8888 · 05/02/2019 13:48

Is everyone just taking nighties only to the hospital? I'm really not a nighty person at all and prefer to wear pyjamas sets with trousers. Can I not just get some loose fitting pj sets that are button down tops?
I just want to be comfortable after the birth and don't want to feel weird wearing something I never usually wear...

SquirtlesMumAgain · 05/02/2019 13:53

The nightie is for giving birth in, not really for after (although I have no pjs that fit at the moment). Last time I wore pjs at night and leggings and dressez/jeans and tops during the day.

Depending on your labour will depend on how you feel about what you wear from why I gather. Mine was long (ish) with lots of checking so nightie and knickers (until an appropriate point) was the most comfortable and convenient.
If you're in and out with a quick delivery then stripping down may work just as well, but I would have frozen with that option!

BadBadBeans · 05/02/2019 14:06

I bumped into a local mum yesterday who has a week-old baby. She encouraged me to have a cuddle with her babe so that DS could see me holding a little one - bless her. DS was quite taken with him - he gave him a very gentle stroke on the arm, and then suddenly bent forward and kissed him on the head! (The mum, thankfully, didn't mind!) It reminded me of the suggestion to get a baby doll for him, so I have just ordered one of these: www.babipur.co.uk/natural-wooden-toys/dolls-waldorf-dolls-prams-accessories/bonikka-blue-baby-doll.html I really really don't like plastic toys, otherwise I would have got him a more realistic-looking one, but this one looks pretty cute I think, AND it's fair trade, AND I like the idea of being able to chuck it in the wash.

@Harley8888 I prefer jammies too. The reason I'm taking nighties to hospital is because it is SO BLOODY HOT on the post-natal wards. I've bought a couple of thin button-down nightshirts for cheap from Tesco's so that I don't need to worry about them getting stained. Not normally one for fast fashion, but there's a time and a place for good quality nightshirts and post-birth is DEFINITELY not it!

I'm dreaming vividly every single night about hospital / baby now...

BadBadBeans · 05/02/2019 14:08

Oh, I also spent a small fortune in The Works today stocking up on 'busy box' things for DS. I got ordinary sticker books, colouring books, magic painting books (thanks @Wineandchoccy - think it was you who suggested those?) and a huge reusable sticker scene book. And I did a maternity pads / cotton wool / breast pads / nappy cream shop and I am now off to pack my hospital bag! YES!

Angelmiracle · 05/02/2019 14:18

I phoned fetal assessment this afternoon. I am just now happy with how quiet baby has been since last night when they usually kick off for a few hours. And today hasn't been much different.

Very active yesterday quiet last night, woke with DH alarm as normal but the movements were nowhere near as strong as normal. And since being at work the odd nudge light kick but not the karate kick octopus limbs I'm used to feeling.

Their advice was to go home drink a large glass of cold water and lie on my left 2 hours and see if I can count ten movements Hmm If its less than that they'd have to see me.

I'm home now because the Health Visitor arranged a home visit today. She should be here soon. So I can't even get lying down yet. I'd rather have been to fetal assessment and get home on time for DS from the childminder. The stress!!

@Angelmiracle that’s the advice we used to give, but I’m talking 3+ years ago, now we dont want people to wait. I assumed this was the advice everywhere.
If you’re worried, personally I’d ring back soon as you’re done with the health visitor and tell them you’ve done what’s advised, and still go in to be seen.

Miami81 · 05/02/2019 16:05

@Angelmiracle that's certainly not the guidance I've been given either. Agree with @babycatcher411 re phoning back in.
Good luck with health visitor.
