My baby suddenly went mad at about 32 weeks and has settled into a bit more of a routine now. Although I’ve started getting full on alien type rippling movements now. If you’re worried always best to check with the midwife?

SquirtlesMumAgain · 22/01/2019 18:23

It's all a balance @cardboard33 - they have days where they are much more active and go mad at this point, but there is an element of too much movement can be a sign of distress.
Like everything - If you are worried then give your maternity ward a call, they will have questions to ask to guide whether it is worth checking.

Marmite2018 · 22/01/2019 20:33

Hope you're all doing okay! I've not posted in a while but have been lurking!

Was wondering if anyone else was suffering from itchy skin? Although I don't have a rash, I've got the itchiest arms and legs! I've just showered and scrubbed but now I'm stinging! Oops! Will give the midwife a ring in the morning as I'm sure it's nothing and comes and goes but I've had it all day today and it's making me miserable!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 22/01/2019 20:45

I sometimes itch in the evenings @Marmite2018 but definitely worth getting check as obstetric cholestasis can present without a rash I think.
I know there was at least one mum in my last mumsnet group who ended up being induced because of the itching

BadBadBeans · 22/01/2019 20:52

@SquirtlesMumAgain Yep he's being v cute about the baby at the moment but I am prepared for it all to change... I'm so glad your consultant was helpful!

@Happyfeet131989 welcome!

@Wineandchoccy oh God, tell me about it. I'm normally okay but today, every time I've got up from sitting down for more than five minutes, I've been limping in pain! I went for a swim this afternoon in the hopes that it would help stretch things out a bit. I'm not sure it has, but it was lovely to take the weight off the bump for half an hour in the water!

I was just lazily browsing threads on Mumsnet and have discovered that my car seat is past its expiration date! We got it from our neighbours (who I totally trust) for DS - it had gone through their kids but had never been in an accident and looked in decent condition. However I have - thanks to the wisdom of MN - learned that a) a car seat is usually only okay for 6 years, and b) you can check the manufacture date on a label on the underside of the car seat. Ours was manufactured 11 years ago! WHOOPS! So now I have to buy a new car seat that will fit in both my little Fiesta and my husband's truck. Car seat purchasing is one of my least favourite activities ever. Still, at least I realised now and not at the last minute, eh?!

wordsmithereens · 22/01/2019 21:31

@Marmite2018 I've just been to see the GP cause my bump is itching like mad. Midwife sent me for bloods on Saturday to rule out cholestasis, hospital told me if I hadn't heard by Monday it meant everything was fine, but apparently bloods not back yet according to GP. She's not worried cause I don't have it on hands and feet, but definitely see about having it checked out just in case. Oatmeal soaks seem to be helping and I've just been prescribed steroid cream, so there are options out there if it starts getting unpleasant!

Wineandchoccy · 22/01/2019 21:33

Talking of car seats our company have a safety policy where if you have a car seat we have to stick a label on it with child’s details, next of kin, emergency contact details etc in the event of an accident

Wineandchoccy · 22/01/2019 21:36

@BadBadBeans how annoying but like you say best to find out now then nearer your due date. I have just had a bath to ease my aches and pains god it’s so not elegant getting in or out of a bath at 8 months pregnant Grin

@Marmite2018 definitely worth getting checked out, hope you are ok.

HidCat · 22/01/2019 21:42

@Happyfeet131989 congratulations and welcome! Hope things are going well for you!

@BadBadBeans how frustrating about the car seat. I thought ours would have expired too but I checked a while back and we were lucky to be within its safe use period.

Got my first consultant appointment since the admission tomorrow. Figured I'd take an overnight bag in, just in case lol.

Angelmiracle · 22/01/2019 22:04

Oh good luck @HidCat hope she's happy to stay in another few weeks for you!

Argh...rushes off to check car seat expiry date!! I thought what I'd read was just on American car seats due to extreme temperatures with weather comprising the seat.

We had snow today I was so relieved to get home from work earlier my pelvis was so sore. I then got stuck enroute and phoned dad to rescue me luckily after 20 mins I somehow got the wheels to get moving again and got home. Glad to be off tomorrow 😴

@toastfiend just so you know at my growth scan yesterday estimated baby weight at 32+4 was 5.5lbs. Mainly based on her huge head!!! She's still resolutely sideways at the moment, maybe the gravity of her noggin will get her head down at some stage.
So you aren't alone. I seem to be brewing a whopper!!

Jenfur · 23/01/2019 07:23

Hi all, been lurking trying to catch up but haven't posted in ages. Currently 31+5 here and counting down the weeks!! Still getting upper backpack every night but have got so used to it, it doesn't bother me so much now. Started to get groin and inner thigh pain as well which midwife said is mild SPD. Had my group physio session which was, as predicted, quite useless, although the physio was lovely. We just watched a PowerPoint about some exercises that you can do and were recommended to use a gym ball instead of sitting on a sofa etc. I haven't bothered to book a 1-1 session, I just feel like by the time it comes around, it won't really help me and baby will practically be here.

Starting to really struggle with walking DS to nursery for 20 mins 3 times a week and especially when he's being uncooperative, which thankfully isn't too often. I finally managed to find a place you could feel the baby kicking from the outside for long enough to put his hand there for a feel yesterday. He just looked at me and, when I asked if he felt his baby brother, he said "I'm finished." When he was being silly the other week and I was just getting to the end of my tether, he turned to me and said "I'm going to give my baby brother lots of kisses and cuddles when he cries". I think he knows how to wind me around his little finger.

Jenfur · 23/01/2019 07:26

Obviously I have upper back PAIN not backpack. New phone has an autocorrect that I haven't got used to 🀦

SquirtlesMumAgain · 23/01/2019 07:54

I thought it was 10 years for most car seats here, but always worth checking. Ours is less than 4 years old so OK either way, but definitely worth knowing.

DS thankfully had been in an alternative seat RF for sometime and baby's seat has been in the spare bedroom so not affected by the weather too much.

cardboard33 · 23/01/2019 08:13

@gronk27 & @squirtlesmumagain thanks. I just called the day assessment unit as had another painful night of no sleep due to how active it is and was essentially told it's nothing to worry about and to call them if it stops moving after this increase in movements. The call took 1 minute. I said I've also been feeling pains/issues I haven't felt before now and she said that's normal... So now I feel like an idiot for calling as she was so dismissive and I don't want to be the type of person who calls about anything, so it was actually a massive deal for me to call and part of the reason I couldn't sleep was because I'd decided I'd never forgive myself if something was wrong (even though I knew it wasn't likely) and I didn't call because I was told stubborn.

Harley8888 · 23/01/2019 08:27

@cardboard33 you shouldn't feel bad for calling. They are there for a reason and you can call as many times as you want. If you still feel something is not right you can say that you would like to go in to be checked regardless. I went in around 20 weeks after a call where they said things were 'normal' I demanded to be checked because I knew what I was feeling was definitely not right! I ended up being admitted for 2 nights on IV and blood thinners!
It's best to follow your gut and never feel bad about seeking advice. Remember its your body, your care and your baby Smile

SquirtlesMumAgain · 23/01/2019 09:59

Sadly I have found some of the calls to be very dismissive - don't ever feel bad for calling @cardboard33

Hermagsjesty · 23/01/2019 10:52

We’re doing car seat shopping tomorrow too - think we’re going to need 3 new ones otherwise they won’t all fit across the backseat. Annoying but I’m trying to console myself that at least it’s cheaper than buying a new car!!

Just back from 34wk appointment with midwife all fine but baby is head down and back to back so need to do some crawling around on all four to try and shift him!! If anyone’s got any other positioning recommendions I’d be grateful! I have a few friend who had back to back labours and I really don’t fancy it!!

wordsmithereens · 23/01/2019 11:39

@Jenfur That is the sweetest! So adorable. I'm sorry the physio session wasn't overly useful, hope you manage to tough it out for the remaining weeks.

@cardboard33 Please try not to feel bad for calling. It's so easy to do, but I honestly think it's just professionals seeing stuff day in and day out, so it becomes old hat to them and they forget to put themselves in your shoes as the person who's going through it for the first time. (And also how much it means to you personally!) Plus, as Harley says, they do get it wrong sometimes, so it's good to trust your instinct.

Wineandchoccy · 23/01/2019 13:22

@Hermagsjesty Dd was back to back I ended up with a forceps delivery but she was my 1st so possibly would have been ok if she wasn’t. Yes it was painful but I have nothing to compare it to.
Have you looked at spinning babies website for advice?

Gronk27 · 23/01/2019 13:34

@Cardboard33 in some were way hopefully them being dismissive is because it’s nothing worry about although not very reassuring. Well done for calling.

@badbadbeans i’m losing confidence in our second hand car seats more and more now and I think I’m going to chat to OH about it.
