@angelmiracle I hope she makes her appearance on time then! My girls born at 42 weeks and 40+6 lazy little monkeys. This one is another girl but I didn't get my scan till past 16 weeks and I think they got the date wrong so I'm trying to keep telling myself she is due 7th of April and hoping for an early appearance haha

babycatcher411 · 19/01/2019 18:12

From a safe-sleep/SIDS perspective, we recommend waterproof protectors because it’s protects the overall condition and longevity of the mattress.

HidCat · 19/01/2019 18:39

@Exhaustedmummy1811 congratulations and welcome to the group! I don't doubt a few babies will overhang either end of March lol.

@SquirtlesMumAgain at least you're getting some testing done and hopefully they'll get to the bottom of whatever's messing you up.

We'll be using blankets for baby at first, DS was one for flailing his arms around and waking himself up so we had to swaddle him, will see how this one goes lol. I have waterproof fitter sheets for the cot but just the normal protector for the carrycot and I'm trying to keep everything covered before baby arrives to protect from dust.

melissa112 · 19/01/2019 19:18

Thanks all for the help with the mattress sheets/protectors. The dog never goes in the babys room and we've left the Snuzpod in there too so hoping if we just put a sheet on each for now that we can change them again before he comes and they'll be dust free.. will definitely get waterproof for cot and crib and see how we go with the carrycot. I'm getting slightly overwhelmed with how much there is to think about!

Exhaustedmummy1811 · 19/01/2019 20:36

Thank you @hidcat. How are you finding your pregnancy? I'm a little fed up now haha but I have spent today nesting and I finally bought my moses basket and most of her clothes. I just need bottles, changing bag, wipes and a changing mat now I think. I think I can start to relax that we will be ready in time

WhatALearningCurve · 19/01/2019 21:48

How are peoples belly buttons doing?

I have a "slight" irrational fear of mine becoming an outie so been praying and hoping it remains an innie ha. I know it's not a definite that it will pop, but it's more likely to pop than not pop.

I'm 32+4 so fully aware anything could happy in the next 6-8 weeks ha

HidCat · 19/01/2019 22:02

@Exhaustedmummy1811 it's been mostly ok thus far but really felt it the last 2 weeks. I get strong Braxton Hicks which warranted a 3 day stint in hospital for monitoring and have been getting a lot of hip pain in work. Apart from that though I'm ok lol. Mostly organised thanks to having 90% of what we need from our first child too which helps.

@WhatALearningCurve Mine didn't pop last time but I think I'm bigger so I'll be interested to see if it does!

I've downloaded the kicks count app after a few people mentioned it on here and it's surprising how many movements you rack up even when you think they're being quiet. It's definitely helped my sanity!

Exhaustedmummy1811 · 19/01/2019 22:21

Im on baby 5 and mine has never popped lol I got rid of everything as I was adament my last baby was my last ever lol so I've had to start again but think I'm nearly there now. I've been getting braxton hicks but nothing like yours, hope your feeling better now and resting up. I've had a lot of pain in my pelvis but my midwife said to expect that as I've had so many, I just try and relax when they are all at school and nursery. At least I've had no leg cramps or heartburn yet which are usually pretty bad for me in the third trimester

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 20/01/2019 08:27

I've had quite bad hips over the past week. I'm putting it down the the car crash having knocked my already looser pelvis about a bit. I got a phone call from the insurers saying that the car that hit me was sorn off the road. As it wasn't legal for him to be driving, they're going to push for his side to pay 100% of the claim. Apparently though because it happened on a round about, it defaults as a 50/50 fault and claim. I'm fuming as he said not to get my hopes up as things like this rarely make any difference to the claim. How can someone drive a car illegally, smash into a tax/mot/insurance paying innocent motorist and get away with it?! I'm just trying to count my lucky stars as it could have been a lot worse!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 20/01/2019 09:26

That's shocking @assumeitwassomethingclever. Don't suppose there was any handy cctv around to support your side?

My belly button didn't pop last time and can't see it doing so this time either.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 20/01/2019 10:10

@SquirtlesMumAgain unfortunately only council ones which are on the traffic lights but they "don't routinely release cctv footage". οΏΌ Trying not to get too worked up but the system always seems to favour to ones in the wrong!

On the belly button front, I agree with you @WhatALearningCurve. Outies kind of freak me out. Mines been teetering on the edge of popping for the last couple of weeks. I must have put on a bit of weight this week though as it seems to have recovered itself. πŸ˜‚

toastfiend · 20/01/2019 10:42

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever my belly button has gone from being a very deep innie to a 'much closer to the surface' innie! I'm 34 weeks now. When I moisturise or apply any kind of pressure around my belly button it kind of pops out, much to my horrified fascination. It's still an innie for now, though, hoping it stays that way but beginning to have my doubts!

I have to go for a scan tomorrow. Growth etc. is all fine but have had a few instances of reduced movements so they want to make sure everything is OK. I'm glad they're looking into it but feel a bit irrationally nervous. Baby is moving but definitely quieter than before, although has all come back fine when I've been on the monitor, and I lost some of my mucus plug Friday/Saturday, although the midwives weren't concerned when I phoned to ask. This pregnancy thing is so stressful. I thought I'd be able to relax once I got this far along, but actually I just have new and more intense worries.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 20/01/2019 11:25

It's a stressful roller-coaster for all pregnancy and the first year at least in my experience @toastfiend!!!

Hopefully the scan can check all is OK - at least they are checking. You don't see a lot at this point, it is funny though feeling them react to the scanner moving around.
We are back for our second growth scan on Wednesday so will be interesting to see where madam is on her chart.

Miami81 · 20/01/2019 12:39

@toastfiend glad they are scanning to check baby.
Movements are so difficult to judge sometimes. It's really really hard. And the weight of responsibility can be overwhelming.
Good luck on Wednesday @SquirtlesMumAgain.
Our next growth scan is Tuesday. Have ctg starting before that.
My bellybutton is still an innie. I carry a bit of extra weight so seems unlikely that mine will pop. Which is good as I do find them a bit freaky!!!

HidCat · 20/01/2019 13:32

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever that's so frustrating, I'd be surprised if their insurance would pay out at all, surely it would be invalidated if only insured as SORN. We had a hit and run when our car was parked and it was a write off so we had a full fault claim simply because there was no-one to claim against. Luckily the insurance didn't go up as we had a protected no claims.

@toastfiend hope the scan is ok for you, they usually are so try not to worry. Movements are a bit weird towards the end, we're supposed to still feel them but they might be more sweeping than kicking.

Hermagsjesty · 20/01/2019 17:01

@hidcat I had to go in for monitoring with really strong Braxton Hicks yesterday too!! Bit of a pain. Was reassuring to hear his little heart though. And she’s assured me he won’t come in the 48hours!! Really hoping he hands on until 38wks (am 34wks now) as I don’t feel at all sorted yet. Midwife seemed to think the Braxton Hicks are especially strong because it’s DC3.

HidCat · 20/01/2019 17:37

@Hermagsjesty it's so disconcerting isn't it! I didn't even know that strong BH were a potential problem. I've been a bit paranoid ever since but as long as the little lady is moving around and I'm not having them too often I'm trying not to worry.

Gronk27 · 20/01/2019 18:34

@whatalearningcurve my belly button is definitely shallower! More of the inside is on the outside! I don't want it to pop, it will freak me out lol!

I have weird pains in my right ribs at the moment. Not sure if I've done too much or baby's up there or it's a result of yoga from Thu.

toastfiend · 20/01/2019 18:36

I don't know if anyone else has found this, but my bump seems to have grown enormously over the past couple of weeks and people really stare at it! I commented on this to DH this morning when we were in town after yet another person had walked towards and past me, all the while staring at my stomach. It got to the point where I was looking down to make sure I didn't have any unfortunate holes anywhere in my clothes or anything, but no, decently covered in very ordinary clothing! DH thought I was being daft but once I'd commented on it said he started becoming more aware of it too and had also noticed it. It's just bizarre, wonder what the fascination is? Is it the same impulse that makes strangers touch your stomach? Maybe they're just appalled by the waddle I currently have masquerading as a walk?! πŸ˜‚

toastfiend · 20/01/2019 18:37

And thanks all for the reassurance re: the scan. I'm sure it will be fine, bump seems to be moving lots this evening, just finding it all a bit of a worry sometimes and very conscious that I'm having a lot of time off work with all kinds of appointments.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 20/01/2019 20:19

Work can always wait @toastfiend! You and baby are much more important. Ultimately if you don't look after yourself then you may not be able to go back at all (not trying to be morbid!)

I have been really lucky they have decided my due date is a Wednesday as it is a DS nursery day, so I haven't had to sort out extra childcare for him for all the scans, and the consultant & midwife clinics seem to be on a Tuesday which is his other full day. Fallen incredibly luckily on both counts.

I am starting to get everything ready for when madam puts in her arrival and have spent the day cooking for the freezer. One meal of chilli, 2 of cottage pie, 1 of butternut squash soup all done. Got stuff to make a stew which will either double as tomorrow's tea or be 2 portions... Got to make it as easy as possible for post baby one handed eating! (and not too drippy food either!)

Has anyone else done any freezer filling yet?

Gronk27 · 20/01/2019 20:36

@toastfiend yes! The staring is really weird.

@squietlesmumagain not yet but I plan to fill the freezer with chilli and all sorts ready!!

babycatcher411 · 20/01/2019 21:17

We were at Center Parcs last week and I definitely felt eyes burning into me everywhere.
I think many people are just secretly fascinated by pregnant bodies, but they don’t realise how them staring can make you feel.

ballanj · 20/01/2019 21:52

@melissa112 glad I'm not the only one thinking 'oh God'. But equally not wishing discomfort on anyone! As for the Gaviscon, I had a telephone consultation with my GP and basically said could they prescribe me some as it's costing me a small fortune. They happily obliged! So that's worth a shot too. Keep it on my bedside table to swig before bed. Then have to keep myself propped up in bed for a good 30 minutes to let it get to work.

MistakenHoliday · 21/01/2019 06:37

@ballanj I don't know if it's any help but I've had horrific heartburn and am now on omeprazole for it - completely taken it away! The doctor started me on ranitidine which was ok at first, combined with gaviscon and I switched over about a month ago. Total game changer - not a sniff of heartburn since. It might be worth seeing if the doctor can step it up a bit for you!
