@AliceRR I have pack tena knickers 2 pks of disposible knickers and 2 pks pads. Just for the hospital. I think you may need more than 1 pack. Boots did have a 3 for 2 on pads etc dont know if still on.

I got some nighties with poppered bib down front from ebay. And some cheap button down ones saw in a bf group from primark to labour in (...then bin no doubt)

But I wouldnt worry too much before 24hr supermarkets and amazon prime. Anything you forget can be got easy enough im sure.

hayley013 · 21/01/2019 11:20

I've got mattress protectors, so they're waterproof on the back and nice and soft on the other side, then I'll put a fitted sheet on too. Same for pram x

AliceRR · 21/01/2019 11:26

Thanks mummy Yes I imagine they clean more than a single wipe would do. I bought a set of Terry ones for bottom and then a set of the coloured microfibre ones for hands and face to try

Friend has now mentioned there are safety concerns re waterproof sheets or were when her children were young (youngest is under 2 though!) Maybe an excuse to just not buy them 😂 I am a worrier as you have probably gathered

Notquiteagandt · 21/01/2019 11:44

@AliceRR it is only the plastic backed ones due to temperture regulation issues with baby. Just gwt cotton ones?

AliceRR · 21/01/2019 11:50

@Notquiteagandt Makes sense! I also was told it was to do with sick pooling on the mattress and baby can drown! Cotton should be fine Thanks

Notquiteagandt · 21/01/2019 12:01

Look at the lullaby trusts stance on them. Maybe help you deside what to do 😊

www.lullabytrust.org.uk/safer-sleep-advice/mattresses-and-bedding/

I would be more worried about mattress getting damp etc and mould spores forming inside. So thats why I have gone for them.

But as with anything we all have our own views. Just use your own instinct dont you. Pros and cons for everything.

I have just learned to shut out most of the "well meaning but not neccessary" advise from family friends to complete strangers 😂

mummymummymummummum · 21/01/2019 12:13

@AliceRR That's exactly the combination I have Smile

I have Little Green Sheep mattress protectors. Pricey, but not at all plasticy. I'm using a spare one on my bed at the moment (in case of waters breaking!) and honestly am not noticing the difference to normal. No temperature change, no rustling.

Maternity pad-wise, I'm using cloth. I've got Mini-Viva pads (she's on FB). So much more comfortable than thick plastic disposable ones! I use the same pads for periods, so not a huge outlay for only a few weeks.

Celebelly · 21/01/2019 12:24

We have Little Green Sheep protectors too. A little pricier but really nice quality. They also have some really cute sleepsuits!

I've got my appointment at a private breast clinic tonight to look at my lump. I decided to go privately in the end because at 37 weeks pg I don't really have the luxury of time, and I can't imagine trying to schedule several hours or a day at the hospital with a newborn baby in the picture. So fingers crossed it's nothing sinister and nothing that will affect breastfeeding.

I've been expressing some colostrum and lumpy boob tends to need a bit more coaxing, but might just be a coincidence! Getting enough to capture in syringes now so going to try get a little frozen supply going just in case.

Celebelly · 21/01/2019 12:26

Oh maternity pads wise, I got some disposable ones with an organic cotton cover. They're really soft and not plasticky. They're made by Natracare. I have two packs but can easily get more thanks to Amazon Prime! Suspect we will be using our Prime sub a lot in those early days!

lanalawr · 21/01/2019 12:27

@AliceRR I'm only packing one pack of maternity pads and no paper pants. I've bought a cheap pack of black primark pants instead (that was more than enough for me last time as I was only in for 22 hours). If I need more then dh can either go home or to the Boots in the hospital to get more pads. I was also given one last time by the hospital (only one straight after the birth though).

Those who are expressing colostrum - where did you get the syringes from and how many syringes are you going to build up?

Celebelly · 21/01/2019 12:31

I just got a bunch of 5ml ones from Amazon. Going to try express a bit a day. We are getting a new much bigger freezer on Fri (not because of colostrum 😂) so will be able to store properly without cramming!

Since2016 · 21/01/2019 12:50

I got long button down nighties from primark - easily work with leggings if required. I’ve struggled to find anything long enough - I’m tall - but that also needed front buttoning. I’d also recommend a v light dressing gown for the ward - shuffling around in your nighty on an open ward is not the one.

Yakadee · 21/01/2019 14:08

I can finally say I get to meet baby next week! Woop!

I actually got some nighties at mothercare in the sale, 2 for £10! X

Since2016 · 21/01/2019 14:47

@welshweasel hope you’re still ok and feeling ok about tomorrow? I think I’ve got that right? Hope so!

welshweasel · 21/01/2019 14:51

Yes tomorrow is d day! Parents just arrived to help with DS, I’m getting constant Braxton Hicks so just hoping nothing kicks off early! Have to be at the hospital at 7.30am tomorrow, hopefully won’t have to wait all day to go down.

Yakadee · 21/01/2019 14:54

@welshweasel - glad to hear you're getting sorted. 🤞 good luck xx

Since2016 · 21/01/2019 15:01

Good luck!!! Hope all goes well and you’re on the morning list! Looking forward to hearing news of another baby x

babyp160 · 21/01/2019 15:19

@AliceRR I got this one as I have a snuz but as you can see from the picture it does just go on top of the mattress if you were worried it's specifies that it's 100% cotton as absorbs liquid so it doesn't pool. Will probably fit other Moses etc. Then again I haven't shopped around to see if others state this too.

bubblybrit · 21/01/2019 17:02

Thank you @Thesnobbymiddleclassone. I’ve not seen these before!

AliceRR · 21/01/2019 17:30

Thanks for the recommendations ladies

I have booked tomorrow off work (finish on Friday anyway!) so might do some Internet / real life shopping!

hayley013 · 21/01/2019 17:37

@welshweasel good luck for tomorrow, will look forward to hearing all went well and I hope you're up first xx

twiglet · 21/01/2019 17:43

@Eyedontknow thanks today was tough I think I got to sleep around 3am alarm went off at 6.30 Sad

I finish on Friday bit worried as I'm a self confessed workaholic but 2 hours a day commuting & 8 hr day at 37/38 weeks takes a lot out of me. Just hoping I don't go into labour before I finish don't think I will have the energy for it! Confused

Notquiteagandt · 21/01/2019 18:04

A little boy ran upto me in the shop today going mummy mummy mummy look that lady has a big big baby in her tummy 😂😂😂

Got a few last minute pieces. So feel 100% ready for baby now.

Mums who are having or have had csections previously. What are you wearing post surgery?

I just suddenly had a thought that as I am being induced theres a high chance I will need a section.

But hadnt really given a thought to clothes and underwear afterwards that wouldnt rub on my scar. Any tips? I have just been and bought some high waisted leggings and soft hareem type trousers with a thick waist band in a couple sizes up.

Since2016 · 21/01/2019 18:40

Tbf I know loads of people who were induced and didn’t need a c section! But good to be prepared!

Personally I just had leggings - soft and high waisted. But low cut pants. I couldn’t abide anything touching it at first. Same this time. Big pants. Peppermint tea.

Since2016 · 21/01/2019 18:41

Immediately after I have button down nighties and leggings.
